"Affordable Quickie in NY"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.

Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.
"Nice hotel in the theatre district"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012

comfy bed, nice bathroom, great staff at front desk, wireless access easy, computer in Lobby new and rapid. Parking garage reasonable rate. Great spot nearby:EatIly--check it out for restaurants and goodies to bring home. Only improvement that could be made is quality of towels.

Let the West Coast have Hollywood; Broadway’s lights are just as bright, and many screen actors come to the Great White Way to gain acting credibility. Area attractions include Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Resplendent St. Patrick’s Cathedral takes up a block at Fifth and 50th. Once seedy, Times Square now hosts ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.

"Time Square Hotel"
If you are just looking for a place to sleep in the Times Square arewa and not too picky about the accomodations Hotel Caqrter is the answer. The hotel is old and lacks the decor and style of more modern hotels. Our room was an adequate size for three adults. The room was neat and clean on arrival. The two small isues that arose during our 4 night stay […] were addressed and satisfactorily resolved by the hotel staff. The hotel is about 100 yds from Times Square so the location is excellent. If you are looking for a room to hang out in or for a romantic weekend this probably isn't the place but if you plan on being out on the town the majority of the time this is your place. The value for the price can't be beat. Read more
"Filty accomodations"
My wife would have left me if I booked this on a trip with her. Stained sheets, stained comforter, disgusting. Hotels.com should not be allowing rooms from this hotel to be booked through their site. Disappointing

"close to where we planned to be"
It was ok for one night....
Great if you want to be in Times Sq but very little amenites. Remote was missing-was told that many get walked away.
"Close to everything but room in repair"
The chair had a hole in it & was covered with pillow cases. The hall was under repair & our closet still had sheet rock fragments (I think that is what it was). It was clean but the bedspread had seen far better days--even had a small stain. However, it was right at Times Square. Very convenient.
"No frills hotel with the "Best Location in Town"!"
Bedroom was clean, quiet and comfortable. Older building so nothing fancy, but when you look out your window>>TaDa!>>>There's Times Square! Best Location ever! The money I saved by choosing Hotel Carter, we used on Broadway musicals, dinner and tours. I'll choose them again in a New York Minute!
"Very good hotel for the price"
I would stay here again very good hotel the only that I saw was wrong with the hotel was the tv only had like 7or 8 different channels very good location

"Great Location"
The hotel is in a great location. People must remember this is an older hotel, but our room was clean and the shower was good. Yes the room is small but bed was comfortable. I wish they had made our bed and provided fresh towels but we made do. The front desk was friendly and helpful.. I have stayed in much worse hotels in A.C. overall I give them a […] C+ Read more
"Hotel Carter"
Our stay at the Hotel Carter was very good. The hotel is quite old and looks it. Our room was clean and adequate. The maid made up our room every other day during our stay. The location is unbeatable (about 200 yds from Times Square). The cost was also very reasonable. Other hotels in this area are two to three times the cost. So if you are looking […] for a cheap place to stay in Times Square and don't need to be pampered this place is worth a shot. As for amenities, there are not many. There is a 24 hour deli on site. "It's great!"
Not sure why people complain about the place. Look, it's not the Ritz. To me, the most important things are, private rooms, a comfy bed, and warm water. At the price and location, I'll be back, for sure!
the location was excellent, the price allowed us to stay at Times Square. So you get what you pay for. We just used it to sleep so it suited our purposes.
"Really close to TIMES SQUARE"
It is ok, if u want to stay 1 day, I stayed 2 and I regret it, Don have high expectations, it it a cheap Hotel, but there r others close to the same price and much better, I dont reccomend it at all, NO BUENO
"Better Than Ever"
I have stayed at this hotel even when the rooms were shabby and service erratic because the price and location could not be beat. This time when I checked in, I was giving a renovated room just open for 2 weeks. WOW!! New paint, rug, mattresses, TV, comforter and curtains. The interior design was not perfectly matched but everything was quite nice. […] This is still an old hotel with dated bathrooms. But who cares when you are a block from Times Square? Check-in people have always been nice to me. Will definitely stay again. Read more
"You get what you pay for"
Traveled alone this time and had low or no expectations about this hotel. It was the cheapest I could find in NY. My room 425 was chemically free of comfort. It had no nightstand. The chest drawer was impossible to use as the handles were missing. No reading light. TV was inoperable, poss. due to absence of remote control unit. No power outlet in the […] bathroom. A single energy efficient lightbulb stuck right into the wall. I can go on and on.The noise level was high with horns honking non stop. Back-up alert from delivery trucks and refuse trucks all night long. Even with windows shut , the noise level was unacceptable high. I have reduced hearing ( acc. to my kids ). I knew it was going to be bad , but it was worse than the worst motel I have stayed in during a visit in remote Alaska off the road system. So , I got what I paid for Read more
"Couldnt ask for a better location but..."
Location was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I was there to see the sights and have easy access to transportation for business and I had exactly that! If you are picky about how big and fancy your hotel is, I do not recommend staying here. But for me, it was perfect.

"Dissapointment"
We stayed here only to sleep basically as we had a very busy schedule. There where numerous things wrong with the room. The sink and toilet leaked water. There wasn't much space in the room as the bed took up almost the entire room. The dresser drawer had missing knobs. Some of the electrical outlets did not work. The tv had about 4 channels with no […] remote control. Additionally no one ever serviced our room in the three days we where there. Overall it was the worst serviced hotel I've ever stayed at. "OMG"
Room very small, trash on floor under furniture, carpet under bed in need of repair and vacuming. Bathroom, basic low toilet, loose sink, leaky facet, walls in need of wipe. Trash in closet. Bed comfortable enough thankfully was tiered enough to sleep. Great location.

"Great bed on Times Square"
You cannot get a more affordable location in NYC. In the heart of the theater district .... it was great. Granted its just a bed. You dont get the bells and whistles at the Hilton ... but great place just to cash for a few hours and hit the town again. The staff was very nice. Our TV didnt work, and the tub backed up once ... but they fixed the tube […] fast and who comes to NYC to watch TV? Read more
"Close and convenient"
Checked-in and room was upgraded to a suite. Friendly staff. Efficient service. Suite was ok. Not good if you want to stay in the room. Best use is for sleeping after a long day/night of exploring NYC. Affordable rates and great location.
"Hotel Carter"
The hotel is in a convenient location. It is an older hotel but comfortable. The lobby and hallways are not very clean. The room it self is clean. The price is great for the location. It is not a hotel for children.
Can't beat the location! Steps from Times Square and the Theatre district. Hotel is undergoing a much needed renovation, but that is reflected in the lower price.
Basic pay for what u get in expensive NYC. Lots of high school groups and foreigners who are trying to save $$$$$$$$
"Good Location but Hotel could've been better"
The hotel was in very poor condition. I would not recommend staying there.

"Old and dirty hotel in excellent location"
If you are looking for the hotel in middle of time square. This is perfect. The room was supper small and dirty. The carpet was dirty. An AC was covered with dust. They provided nothing, no soap, shampoo.

"Very clean property"
Excellent location for theater district, cheap price, extremely clean room and BAthroom, beds were comfortable but everything was falling apart or broken, no knobs on AC, it did work but not adjustable, first room we had it didn't, work at all. All the drawers were loose or broken and bathroom door would not close fight
"close too must-see sights but hotel ??"
Although the quality of the hotel was very questionable it was really close to where we wanted to be.
"Don't invite the Queen...."
Great location and pricw, old hotel. Hot water only luke warm. Pick up extra towels at desk. If you want to sleep in Times Square, yes. Entertain the Queen, no.
"Location is the best asset"
Rooms were smaller than what we had booked. Since all rooms are small, it did make a difference. Renovation (April 2012 stay) consisted of adding a layer of fresh new paint - nothing more. Very limited amenities, heating ducts and pipes were extremely noisy, beds clean but not comfortable. Staff was however courteous and the location is as central as […] it gets, which makes up for the negatives, especially at the rates offered, in the very heart of Manhattan... Would be sub-standard for US guests but would still recommend to European tourists on a budget or... adventurous... Read more
"Old hotel clean and close to Times Square."
This is a great hotel for the value definetly for Adults only I would not recommend bringing children. Older hotel not very modern hallways could be a little cleaner. The beds were comfortable and spacious. Don't plan on watching television they only have 4 stations it is direct TV.

"worst hotel in the best location"
Hands down crappiest hotel ive ever stayed at. Extremely outdated, needs major renovations. the room wasnt completely filthy, but its hard to tell because of how old it is. absolutely no amenities here, no hand soap, no shampoo, no iron or hair dryer. tiny tv with no remote and 3 fuzzy channels to choose from. i did read the reviews before booking so […] i should have known what to expect. i thought the price was great for being so close to time square..... do yourself a favor and spend a little extra for something even a little better. "Hotel Carter in NYC-amazing location"
Stayed here one night and was very pleased. For the location of the hotel and the size of the room, I thought this was a great deal. Definitely not fancy, but the room was clean and quiet. Check in isn't until 3, but they let me get my room at 12:30 and would have even let me get in earlier if there had been availability. I would stay here again and […] recommend it to others. "Will stay here again"
We were pleased with the location and room. Our only complaints are that the room was very chilly; the window air conditioners were in, but the windows weren't sealed and it was cold at night and there weren't any outlets beside the bed to plug in chargers for the phone and iPod. For some reason there were no wash clothes or hand towels, but for the […] convenience of this location, we didn't care. We will definitely book here again. Read more
"Hotel Carter, NYC - you get what you pay for"
Very convenient midtown location. Reception area is very busy. Room is severely plain, but it was clean and the bathroom worked fine. This is a relatively affordable place to sleep for 1 or 2 nights in NYC--nothing more. It is not a place to relax or spend down-time in the room--you just sleep there.
"Bed Bugs"
The staff was nice but the bed bugs that I got at this hotel did not make it worth the
