"Topless table dancing."
This hotel is a regrettable dump. There is a room off the lobby for topless table dancing. Paint was peeling in places. No chair in the room. The lobby was dirty.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Worst hotel I have ever been. You should read this"
There is no comforter in room. I asked for it and got some dirty blanket finally. The room was dirty and service was bad. One most ridicules things is that they clean rooms every other day. Never recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Florida meets Times Square"
Right next to Times Square! Doorman there all hours of the day. Lucky Star Cafe had excellent hot food. The Choclate chip cookies were always gone they were so good. We met people from all around the world come to visit NYC. The shuttles to JFK and LGA were convent, inexpensive and on time. The Gentlemans Club was not an issue at all. There was a minimum […] of three staff in the lobby at all times. Room 1701 was small. The two full beds left no other space. The mattresses were new and comfortable. No ice microwave or fridge if that is an issue for you. It was 24f and blowing outside and we were warm and Cody inside. The towels were clean but not huge fluffly you buy at home. We always had enough supplies for the four of us. L'Open and Gray line tours two blocks from hotel I am definitely going back and having my connectcut friends meet me there Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was small, carpet was bad, windows were dirty and half broke. Air conditioner was terribly dusty, bathroom had no electrical outlet. Asked for extra pillows took 5 calls before they finally came a half hour later. Cable to the tv was repaired by electrical tape. It was like staying in the hotel that Tom Hanks stayed was in for the movie "Big". […] Also attached to a gentleman's club, which is great for a single man but not a family...Location was fantastic. "Worst stay ever Book here!"
Worst hotel stay I have had in my life! Early December New York City 28 degrees outside, NO HEAT in my room!Tryed to call the front desk, phone did not work!Went to the front with a complaint, front desk said they would send a maintenance personnel up to my room.No offer to switch my room. Maintenance shows up 45 minutes later pulls out a wrench adjust […] some valves and says he'll be back in 15 minutes ... never came back. Saying the tempurature in my room was as cold as it was outside may be an exageration since it was 28 degrees outside and the bottle of water I had in the room didn't freeze but to say it was probably 42 degrees in my room is not a stretch. I went back to the front desk there were at least 15 people in line with apparently the same issue. At that point I decided to drop my key at the front desk at wait the 6 hours in a warm train station from my departure. The worst! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"If you ONLY care about price and location, go for"
Indifferent and unfriendly staff. The hotel is in serious disrepair with dirty carpet and dirty tiles. No fitted sheets on the beds, only ill fitting flat sheets. Small, thin, worn out towels and wash cloths that are only replaced every other day, unless you can convince the housekeeper to give you more. Location and affordability are the only attributes […] this hotel has going for it. There is small 24 hour restaurant beside the lobby that has an excellent and inexpensive breakfast, however, beware that they'll over charge for a bottled drink every time (nearly $4)! "Fun times in NY"
The location of the hotel is awesome! It's walking distance to Times square, Fashion District, Broadway Shows, RadioCity & Rockefeller center. Its also very conveniently located to the subway- which connects to all trains.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location but barely passable in the cleanliness and amenities department. Shower was cold, had to fix the light so I didn't electrocute myself, somewhat shoddy rug & bedspread. But hey --- you want Times Square / theater district at $200/night? This could be it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great location -filty and horrible hotel"
it was horrible and filtyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We had plenty of hot water, the 3 elevators worked all 7 days we were there, the sheets on the king size bed were clean, and the large flat screen TV. The location of the hotel could not have been better. The concierge desk was most helpful. negatives: Don't look under the bed! Hasn't been vacuumed in years! The pedestal sink was not connected to the […] wall. The ample white towels and wash clothes were good for exfoliating! The hairdryer made a grinding sound, smoked, then gave up, though the Front desk provided a new one right out of the box. Housekeeping only services the rooms every other day, but the front desk provides clean towels upon request. There is a phone in the room but I'm not really sure why. No room service. The hotel Wi-Fi was available in our room, but apparently not all rooms have signal. We didn't use it as it was $10/day and we had our smart phones. The only temperature control in the room was raising the window the maximum 2 inches. I suppose we could have used the window AC, but that seemed a waste of energy as it was freezing outside. (Bring a Phillips screwdriver with you so you can remove the block on the window allowing you to open it as much as you want). There was no refrigerator, microwave, or coffee pot. It would have been nice as we always had leftovers from the restaurants we frequented. We saved about $2500 staying at the Carter. Will we stay there again? Probably. "not a bad place to stay for the price"
bed was comfortable. Rug needs to be replaced. And a couple of decorations to make it more homely lookingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The good: the location was perfect! Right in times square! The prices was "ok" especially for the area...and no bed bugs! The bad:Room was not very clean. They were outdated-which was ok, but the carpets were pretty dirty, there was a clothing sticker on the wall (which by the way was also noted in someone else's review so I am assuming it was the same […] room) luckily I brought a can of lysol and sprayed everything. The staff was not very timely when it came to getting extra towels and a hair drier. The REALLY BAD:for whatever reason the saftey latch on the inside of our room door was removed and a simple chain lock was in its place .And there is a topless club attached to the hotel..which we weren't expecting (just a warning for people traveling with children) other than the hotel being REALLY run down..it was ok for the one night we stayed..but I would not retureturn for longer. "it's just a place to sleep"
Pleasantly surprised to have a king size bed when expected a double. Old radiator heat which was unbearably hot. Had to sleep with Windows open in December. Rooms have not been updated with peeling paint and ragged carpet and the TV did not work. Let's face it, it is only a place to sleep. We spent most of our time enjoying the city and shows. "Basic Hotel close to Times Square"
If you want a cheap, basic room close to Times Square & theaters this no frills hotel will work. Room was clean but dated as was the whole building. Curtains did not shut all the way and drain in bathroom sink was very slow. Told management but it was never corrected. They changed the curtains but the result was the same. This place is OK for a good […] night's sleep. No free internet, no complimentary coffee, etc. They did provide shampoo & soap. Room service is every 2 days. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Its better than sleeping on the floor."
Well the only thing it really has going for it is location. The rooms are pretty depressing. There was only one overhead light...not even a night stand light. We had to keep either the television on or the bathroom light on all night so that we could see if we had to go to the bathroom. The carpet was dirty. There was mold on the bathroom ceiling. The […] bed was ok...pillows were too thin. We stayed on the 14th floor, which apparently was the floor where they put all of the French tourists. Needless to say, our bedtime and theirs were very different. Every night I could hear them talking in the hallways at 3:30-4:30 in the morning, we were even welcomed home to a full hour of singing in rooms down the hall. We are as easy to please as they come, but for $200 a night, I would expect a little more for our $$$$. Yes it was Thanksgiving, so we expected the rates to be a little high, but I would have rather spent a little more or stayed a little further away to get more bang for our bucks. We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Carter. Had a blast. If you are looking to be pampered...look elsewhere. If you are looking for warm, safe place to sleep with little to nor frills then this is your place. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Dirty and dingy hotel"
Reserved two nights. Got out after the first night. The room was small, dingy, dirty, with worn out linens in which you wouldn't want yourself in. Check in area is dingy. Never use the restroom in the check in area--men's room has no locks and definitely dirty and suffocating. Front desk is impossible to deal with, including its manager.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not professional !"
I had a long flight arrived at hotel cater to a dirty room, that someone had just checked out of. Dirty towels in floor, bed not made, dirty diapers in bathroom. Second room key didn't work at all, and mind you the staff person asked me to go and check if the room was clean, but key didn't work. Third room clean and key worked. The location was great as right in the mix of things. Great restaurants & Broadway within walking distance. "Not worth the savings."
The hotel was pretty run down. Our first room had no working lights and we had to ask to be moved. "Awful experience in NY"
This hotel needs to be renovated and fumigated. The halls are narrow, the rooms are tiny and everything is outdated. There were stains on the sheets and the mirror was hanging on a wooden block. I went for a quick overnight getaway with a few girlfriends. The price of this hotel is great for the location but don't expect much for your money.
