"Awesome location, Very tiny room"
Location was awesome, it's right across from broadway. However, there was extra fee required for wi-fi, and the room was very tiny... almost as big as your bathroom size.. You barely fit a TV and a bed there. Bathroom was like.. "wow, you can fit everything in this little space!" Since it's an old building, you can not expect it to be very modern and […] very clean. but overall, it wasn't that bad. It's worth staying one night, especially when you are traveling only few days in the town. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Obviously minimum wage is paid to staff here. Staff is lucky to be employed as they could never find a job in any other hospitality related field. Incredibly lazy and rude. Not one smile or thank you or welcome.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel is really bad, next time i will sleep on the street. The bed, you can feel the springs, there was not toilet paper in the bathroom. The paint looks old, the TV was way on the left hand side of the bed(not centered).Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Location is everything!"
We were looking for a place near Times Square for a 3 day getaway. Prices in that area are quite high, particularly if all you plan to do is sleep at the place you are staying. The Hotel Carter met our needs for a reasonable price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Don't expect too much from the hotel....it's veeeery old....But The location definately pay it!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location and bare-bones"
The positives: Perfect location at Times Square, very courteous staff and concierge. Everything else: it is a run, run-down hotel. Paint coming off the walls, almost feeling like a hostel. Our room was very spacious but completely bare-bones; no iron (need to ask at front desk for one), no coffee machine, only shampoo and bar soap in bathroom, and room […] service is every OTHER day, so heads up. Also TV is on-the-air channels only. That said, you cannot beat the location and proximity to everything in New York/New Jersey given how close you are to the Port Authority and that's why we went here this time. Next time I visit NYC though, I'll be saving for a more accommodating hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A MINIMAL HOTEL--NEITHER BAD NOR GRAND"
THE CARTER IS A MINIMAL HOTEL. THE GUESTS ARE NICE, HOWEVER. AND IT IS NOT EXPENSIVE BY NY STANDARDS. DO NOT EXPECT FRESH TOWELS!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

A very good and convenient hotel. enjoyed my stay in the hotel. It is very close to Time square. ThanksGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to where we wanted to be"
Great stay not long enough. Great location if you want to be right in the middle of all the action. Room OK. If they renovated they could up their prices. OK for what we paid could have been a little cheaper as the rooms are not very large but good enough to sleep and change clothes. I would stay there again as it is close to everything.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Half-way decent hotel in a GREAT location"
Hotel was nice enough as we were only there for 1 night before leaving on a cruise the next day. Every staff member encountered were very friendly & helpful. Rooms are pretty basic. Small window unit air conditioner. Pillows could definitely use a major upgrade. Only 2 on each full size bed & each of them weren't much thicker than a piece of paper.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location thats all"
Location was great, can not say anything else good about the hotel, got off a cruise ship around 9am and got to hotel around 10:30am, yes I knew check end was 2ish, but just wanted to leave bags so I could look around and not have my bags, Hotel changed $20.00 to leave bags in holding area, to me that should be a given to your guess, rooms was old, […] stinky bath room falling apart, lobby is old with dirty couches. "Worst hotel ever…"
This is by far the absolutely Worst hotel I have stayed in ALL my life. I beg the reader to stay away from it or run, run to another place. Hotel Carter is a dated, smelly rundown. It is a shame to the tourist industry that this joint gets away with such blatant violations just because is walking distance to Times square.. The room smelled moldy, unclean. The […] bathroom cabinet looks as if it was taken from a condemned abandoned house. The soap holder is falling apart. When I reported that the phone was not working, the front desk attendant asked: “Do you want it fixed”?. You can see the threads alongside the edges of the carpets and it is stained faded and dated. It looked so disgusting that I did not dare to walk barefoot on it. No Maid service. I had to come down to the front desk just to get another clean towel after a long day. ""Hotel It Is What It Is""
Check-in staff gave us a room that wasn't cleaned - big negative first impression; however the Building Engineer (nice guy) helped resolve that issue. The room had a hole in the wall that looked like someone's head was pushed into it. The bathroom had broken tile, and mildew in the shower. The place was built many years ago, and our room hadn't been […] remodeled since.Close to Times Square, so, it was the location that made the stay worthwhile. Very nice housekeeping staff - BTW, housekeeping is every other day. Bring your own towels and TP. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not worth it"
I wish I could give it ZERO stars. First we arrived at 1230 and check in is at 3. They wouldn't let us check in a minute earlier so when we asked for luggage holding they said sure! For $5 PER BAG. We give them the bags and the money for them to take our bags to the corner of the lobby and drop it on a pile of other bags and walk away....no one assigned […] to watch it. Then we get to our room and one of the beds is broken and sunken in the middle, the sheets are ridiculously thin and don't cover the entire mattress, and the towels don't even cover my upper half. I call at 10pm for a hair dryer that's not supplied and they say the house personnel have left so to call at 8am- which I do and of course he's not in again so in order to get a hair dryer I have to go down 19 floors with wet hair out of the shower to the lobby in order to get it myself. Not to mention the internet service cost money per day if u need internet. They have poor quality service and rooms AND they charge for anything and everything! It wouldn't be as terrible if I already didn't pay $219 a night. Only upside is it's close to Times Square. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Horribly overpriced for a godawful hotel roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
On our last night in nyc we needed to book a hotel since our reservations at our previous hotel (doubletree Times Square) was only set till the day before due to overbooking. We found the Carter one of the best deals in the area. We were traveling as 4 adults and needed a place for one night. The hotel is charming, very 1920s feel. The rooms were slightly […] cramped and left no room for our luggage, but for one day, there was at lest hot water and a soft bed. I had read previous reviews about bed bugs, but none were in sight. The room had a strange smell but the ac unit kept it at bay. Great place if there are 2 people in the room, not ment for 4 adults. Location is on point and so close to everything in Times Square. I would probably book this place again if I needed a cheap place on the fly! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Can't beat the location"
There was mildew in the shower, the room was really tiny, and there wasn't even a bar of soap in the bathroom. All that being said, I would stay there again in a nanosecond. The sheets were clean, there was an A/C unit, and it was the absolute perfect location. A block from a subway stop, close to all the shows, and several good restaurants near by. "Times Square Convenience!"
The room was exactly what I expected for the price and location. No extras at all, but a place to lay your head and wash up in. No towels or blankets on the beds, partial roll of toilet paper for a three night stay - NO MAID SERVICE! Definitely not home but for what we paid being as close to everything in Manhattan - truly can't complain.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I couldn't think of a worse hotel right in times square!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very dirty room, dark room, without sunlight. We couldn't open windows. Shower was in catasthropic condition. We saw strange hairs and nails on the carpet (wasn't vacuume). Without fresh air. Never ever.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Awesome location, not so good hotel."
If you want one of the best locations to stay in NY then this is the hotel. Don't expect anything from the hotel as it's an old place like most of the hotels at prime locations in NY. With Times Sqr, Rock towers, Empire State, restaurants and subway stations at walking distance it's one of the best places in NY.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Horrible, horrible customer service, carpet was disgusting, stayed for 3 days towels were never changed, needing an iron and I had to picked it up at the front desk. The Only good thing about the Hotel was the location, it was close to everything. You get what you pay for.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location! Room 1720 was okay"
Heard the 4th floor was totally renovated. Our room 1720 was okay. Not fancy at all but was clean and okay for a couple of nights. If you're worried about bedbugs you can use a spray. Dirtiest hotel. My husband was even disgusted with how filthy everything was. The toilet, windows, carpet & bedding clearly had dust & dirt & hair all over. Nothing in this place had been cleaned in months. Do not stay here!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, clean and cofortable beds"
The hotel isn't updated, but, it is clean. They need new showers as there is some rust. However, the beds are comfortable. The walls must be pretty solid as you did not hear people from other rooms. Meanwhile, I left my laptop in my room along with a $1500.00 watch. When I called, 5 hours later, they had my stuff secure and ready for me to pick up. […] That means a lot that the staff is friendly and honest. It is what it is, a hotel in a great location for the budget minded. Don't go if you want a lavish stay. Only go if you plan on seeing NYC and need a place to crash before the next adventure. Either way, I am now a fan of this place and would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Why would anyone stay here"
I don't know why someone would stay here? I understand that many of US can't afford to spend $500 a night, there are several hotels at a lower price point that are much nicer and in an equally good location. The whole hotel was dark, from the lobby, to the elevators, to the room. The room is so small I couldn't open the front door all the way. I also […] couldn't even open the door to the closet half way. I had to stuff toilet paper around the air conditioner to keep it from rattling around in the window. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the carpet was peeling up off the ground all around the room! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Obviously being so close to Times Square and so (relatively) cheap I was not expecting much. The bed was delightfully huge and the room was clean if a bit shabby but my oh my the service was poor. When I went to leave my luggage with the concierge before I checked in he was very disinterested, did not listen when I said I was checking in not out and […] charged me $5/bag to leave it there. Sure, not a big sum but surely my $160 for the night should have covered such a service. Then when I finally did check in the woman who served me was clipped and, while serving me, continued her conversation with her colleague. Pretty much everyone I dealt with there were disinterested and did not know how to actually work in customer service. Overall an okay stay but really it's just a place to leave your bags and sleep. "worked for us"
Since I pay for the entire bill $100/night matters to me which I suppose might be the difference in price of the next potentially better hotel in that area. First of all, the location is great for the price. The hotel is literally one minutes walk from times square.
