Try to avoid rooms on the 4th floor, the head room is so restricted from the slanted roof it was not possible to stand up in most of the room. While the attic feel is quaint in some ways, the wind and rain slapped down and whistled across the sky-facing window making if very difficult to sleep in bad weather. Concierge was moderately helpful but suggested the hotel for breakfast and coffee two separate times before suggesting nearby places. Location is awesome. Street parking around hotel was very available on weekdays and don't have to pay until 10AM, which was nice. Read more

Centrally located and within walking distance to everything. Everything was perfect except the only problem I had with the room was that it was an "inside" room with a steep angled ceiling with only window to the room. If I wasn't careful I could hit my head on ceiling quite easily. It was almost like staying in an attic.

My wife and I recently stayed at the 1919 for 4 nights. It was our first trip "alone" without our two kids and we had a great experience. In advance, I contacted the hotel to order some flowers, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. They were extremely responsive and helpful, and when we walked in, the room was coverd with rose petals and roses, […] with our champagne and strawberries delivered just after we arrived! It was perfrect and made my wife start to cry (good tears). We had slight miscommunication about the price, but the hotel immediately took care of the situation and was greatly appreciated. Excellent, central location a few blocks from the harbor - easy to walk to most places. Quiet location, especially when windows were closed. Room darkening shades help block the light nights of summer, but they didn't fully darken the room for sleeping. Floors are hardwood, but weren't cleaned/vacuumed during our stay. Kwaku and Pablo were great---courteous, gracious and helpful at the front desk. All needs met, bbokings for activities taken care of, weather reports given upon request. Pablo in particular gave me invaluable information on the use of a camera I had recently purchased for the northern lights activity I was signed up for.....I had not had time to read […] the manual so was unfamiliar with proper setup for low light photography, and because of his background and experience with cameras was able to teach me things I never would have been able to understand otherwise...we even took some experimental setting shots in an empty conference room with low light ambience to simulate what I would encounter outside at night! The best thing was its location. The hotel was close to all the restaurants and main city attractions. They could have done a better job at cleaning the sidewalks by the hotel since it was fully covered by snow and ice. Overall, it was good!

We stayed on Friday and Saturday night, and Saturday was Cultural Night. Lots of properties have a problem with noise on Friday and Saturday nights, but our room faced an interior courtyard and was very quiet. The location is excellent, very convenient.

Went to Iceland 18-24 Sept to see the Northern Lights, geyers, water falls, tectonic plates. Saw the geyers, hot springs, huge falls, and tectonic plates. But, we did not see the Northern Lights and that was the main reason we traveled. Booked three separate excursions on different nights to see the Lights. Two of the trips were cancelled due to "poor […] weather conditions". Not sure if I believed this since we talked with another traveler who had gone with Reykjavik Excursions and seen the lights the night before. We had a rental car and were pleasantly surprised to find a public parking lot right across the street from the hotel. Many other hotels in central Reykjavik had little or no parking near them. Hotel located in an ideal spot for Reykjavik centre and very close to the coast line and the Opera House. Overall the hotel was very pleasing and the staff were very pleasant and willing to help. Room was not the largest of rooms but was always cleaned on time and towels always replaced and were large enough to actually dry oneself and not the smaller […] ones some hotels use. It is well located near the harbour and for all the main shopping streets and other attractions such as the art gallery and viking experience.We did not use the restaurant as we like to get out to the excellent restaurants nearby.The only draw back is that on weekends the area becomes […] very noisy with traffic and revellers from about midnight to approx 4am or even later. It seems all Reykjavik is out partying and it all seems very good natured, no fighting. Two options: ear plugs or get out and party yourself! Hotel is central - all restaurants and shops less than 5 minutes walk away. Hotel is modern, well equipped and efficient. Outside noise from revellers at a weekend is extreme so recommend taking ear plugs but this is only on Fridays & Saturdays until 6.00am! Breakfast is quite expensive, we ordered poached eggs which was hilarious as the waiter didn't […] know what they were and had to get the chef to speak to us, they were delicious! Receptionists were helpful, calling to check our Northern Lights tour was going ahead and booking us on the bus back to the airport. Overall a pleasant stay in a 4* hotel in a good location. The hotel was great and central, the staff were pleasant and helpful. If you want good rest and quiet nights this is not the place to stay. Unfortunately the hotel is in the most noisy part of the city. The noise starts after midnight and ends when you get up in the morning, both on Friday and Saturday nights. People walking down the street drunk shouting […] at each other. Closing the windows doesn't help at all to seal the noise off. Unfortunate as the hotel would be great and recommended if something was done to seal the windows and allowed guests to sleep. Potential customers should be warned, unless you go to party. Read more

My first time in Reykjavik, turned out I chose the perfect hotel. Right in the small city centre and very good quality of the stay. Nice staff, personal service at the breakfast and good quality rooms. Will surely be the place I stay when visiting Iceland in the future.
