Mt. Washington Valley Inn - North Conway

We used our stay as a relay point to another event about 20 minutes north in Fryeburg, Maine. The hotel is dated with narrow hallways and doors, the floors creek and even uneven in places. The hotel was very clean, the people I assume we're the owners were a very nice couple who made every effort to make our stay perfect. We were given a room the a/c […] wasn't working in and after the man checked, it was a plug issue they gave us another room. Our room was clean and comfortable with all the things a name brand hotel offers like bed, chairs, tv, desk, closet, towels, bath soap, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, coffee maker, ice bucket and better than the others with a fridge in every room, big fridge, not just a small cube! etc. we found a great price online with hotels.com and were only using the hotel for a place to sleep. We filled our coolers with ice from the ice machine, never made time to swim in the indoor pool and had plans for breakfast elsewhere so never used their free breakfast which offered bagels, cereal, juice, coffee, pastry, waffles...etc. we were able to walk or drive to local eateries and grocery stores that were close by! If you can get past the dated decor and age of the building you will have a great stay in a service friendly staffed hotel. Read more

The room was a decent size and had the usual amenities like tv, a/c, phone, etc. The hotel itself is in a good location for nearby shopping, restaurants, and activities. However the bed sheets were clearly not cleaned from the previous customer(s), which was disgusting. Also there was no hot water; not even luke warm, so we couldn't shower. The 'continental […] breakfast' consists of a 2 hr period where you can get toast and coffee. And you can't check out until after 9am. Its unfortunate that they do not provide better service. This hotel was horrible. The only heat in the entire hotel was in our actual room. It was warmer outside (approx 40 degrees) then it was in the hallways, the front desk area, or the contential breakfast area. It was so cold in the lobby that the front desk clerk was wearing a winter coat!!! The contential breakfast for normal as far as what was offered, […] however, when I put the milk in my coffee it curtiled so I threw it out. Again, because it was so cold the butter was frozen and we couldn't get it to melt on the toast and there was no microwave to melt it. Will never stay here again. Read more

Looks like they stopped performing maintenance at the hotel maybe 30 years ago? We got there and found that the pool and hot tub were closed for "renovations" (which we did eventually find on the hotels.com website) but it was obviously just closed. Hotel was in a great location close to shopping and Resturants.. Room was nice a little outdated though. The hotel itself was freezing inside and took awhile for the heat to make the room warm. We had gone to dinner and gotten back around 1030 11 to find that the hotel sign in the parking lot was shut off, the front desk was shut down and locked and […] nobody was around. The back door to let us in wasn't locked or a keyed entry just turned the handle and the door opened. Did not like the feeling of nobody else being there in the building besides us. When I first went into our room, it didn't smell very good. The ice machine was broken, the roof over the inside pool had many leaks in it. It wasn't as nice as it was depicted online. The location was the best part about it.

Overall it was good. The ice machine/area was being renovated or replaced so we had to go to the office to get ice which was pretty inconvenient since we had to wait while they checked people in. I read all of the reviews on here and thought what did i get myself into but figured it was too late i booked it through expedia and they were the only hotel with openings( now i know why) it was outdated which wasnt the problem i wasnt expecting 5 star i was staying one night but we had 3 kids with us and 2 adults..I called for more towels they brought […] me 4 plus the two in the room ( i had 5 people in my room to shower and enjoy the pool and i had 6 towels to work with..i asked for towels for the pool they gave me 2 more! Would not stay here again. Room was so old and outdated I did not feel comfortable. King bed sagged in the middle, pillows were very thin, curtains were falling apart. TV was all snow, We went out at night until 10:00 p.m. because I didn't want to spend time in the room. Checked out at 8:30. Breakfast and the area was OK.

We are not hard to please people. I don't need to stay at the newest, most modern place. I will say that I was not satisfied with the condition of the hotel or the smell in the room. The pool smelled funny and looked like it needed to be balanced, the ice machine was broken and you needed to go to the front desk for ice. The arcade was 2 games located […] in the laundry room. Being that one of us used to live in the Valley, this place has improved. There is still room for improvement. I questioned how clean our room was exactly. There were items left on the night stands and used soap in the bathroom, this makes me questions how clean the room was.

Can't ask for a better location for the price. Continental breakfast was adequate with Dunkin Donuts less than five minutes away. Indoor pool wasn't heated and hot tub was more like a "luke warm" tub. They claim to have a game room... it's scary, stay far away. Central A/C was really controlled by the hotel, not the guests. It was obvious they did "rolling […] balckouts" of the A/C. The romm was so stuffy that I woke up unable to sleep one night. Here's a hint to management... leave the A/C on or don't advertise you have it at all. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay for a night or two... maybe give it a shot any time other then summer. The location is great, but that's really the only redeemable quality of this place. If you can afford it, spend an extra $50 and stay somewhere else. Read more

Our stay was very nice. It is an older hotel with lots of charm and antiques. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Our room was a non smoking room but it smelled like smoke. Pool water was freezing. All in all we had a nice time. Internet was very slow and patchy. Great staff though.

Advertised as having pool:it was out of order, hot water took forever to come to room and 3" of standing water in tub(waiting for it to run hot) and doubt of hot water made us not take showers, room needs updating, painting and cleaning woodwork, but the sheets were clean! Advertised as having "only 3 rooms left" and we were 1 of only 2 rooms rented […] that night. No desk clerk:we were informed to call and were given directions to our room(what if I didn't have a cell phone?!)In am The clerk was pleasant and apologized and the lobby was icy cold with a less than memorable continental breakfast and stay experience. Won't go back there. Disappointing to register on-line and think the stay would be enjoyable and it definitely was not. With many other hotels/motels also empty and with special room rates we'll shop around better next time. Not worth what we paid and didn't have time to look around for another room~~ Read more
