"Not a Resort"
While Koyao does have some charm and ambience and the staff was friendly it's not a resort. It's a small, nice, open air room hotel with no air conditioning. Although it's on a beach, it's a tiny beach not much for laying out and there is one smallish pool. The spa treatment I had was well done but the facility itself was outdated and there was no hot water so after my body scrub I had to shower in cold water. For what you pay in high season, it's not worth it in my opinion. In low season perhaps a better value but falls short on luxury.

"Wake up in paradise"
Very relaxing, quiet, very nice, romantic room. A refreshing morning shower in the garden with the early sun shining on your face. Splendid sunrise above the rocky ilses and a gorgeous full moon rising up in the evening at the same spot. Very quiet and spaceous place at the beach; good food and many possiblities to do things outside the hotel.

"Worth every penny"
Koyao Island Resort is the most relaxing place we have ever stayed. The photos online don't really do the place justice - I was nervous beforehand about whether it would be worth the money when there are alternatives on the island. Let me reassure you - it is. You wouldn't believe that a resort with no air conditioning, no walls, no locks on the doors would be comfortable; but the climate is such that the sea breeze really does cool you down at night. The restaurant was good although we thought drinks were a bit expensive. There is a little shop down the road where you can get drinks and snacks.

"Rip Off...

Fantastisk hotel, levede op til forventningerne. Afslapning for alle pengene. Lidt dyrt, da der ingen konkurrence er i området. "Ruhig, hochwertig, Traumkulisse"

Danke Koh Yao Noi!

"A perfect piece of Paradise "
08/03/15 Flashpacking2011 Sydney, Australia
This is our 5th visit it South Thailand where we search for peace, tranquility, a bit of luxury and something unique. We found it here! Perfect for us. We don't like the luxury big resorts nor the high end villas , we can stay at home for that. We want authentic Thai experiences, with very little Western influence but we do like luxury. KIR is perfect for this. The villas are very up market traditional bungalows, ours has A/C , but we didn't need it. Extremely comfortable!! They are very private. We loved the out door showers...the Mosquitos are not a problem...if you don't like them then don't come to Thailand...we barely noticed them. The grounds of KIR are excellent and lots of space for privacy...the pool is nice, the beach is average...we have seen better on Koh Samui and Ko Phangan , but the view across the Adaman sea is spectacular. We went on on complementary long tail boat tour of the local islands...amazing...our guide Pock was just brilliant.. The food at KIR was the best on the Island...we loved all the Thai dishes...why have Western food when Thai is so much better and healthier for you...the service was excellent...we did eat at other places as we prefer to eat at more local places than the restaurants that serve Western food..try, Kaya, Garden Cafe ( Tiki the owner cooks the best Phad Thai I have ever eaten and is most helpful re local knowledge...she has some great tours at great prices), the Pier Restaurant at Tha Khoa pier ( it's not on TA...but should be...great local food at very very cheap prices..the lady who runs it is very cheeky and welcoming and a great cook) ...also ate at Je T'aime as the TA reviews raved about it..the food at KIR was the best on the island in our view. We rented a scooter from KIR 3 times and explored the island..we practiced yoga on the beach a number of times and I rode around the island a few times on a mountain bike ( for exercise and to explore) ...a few challenging hills but nothing to hard if you are fit..if you are not fit then you can still ride the bicycle just don't go up the hills!!! It takes about 20 to 30 mins to casually ride into the main village...when you get their reward yourself with a visit to the 7/11!!! We visited JJ Spa about 1.5 kilometres ( next to Villaguma Villas) from KIR for our daily massages...we can highly recommend them... Finally a special than you to all the staff at KIR...service was excellent

"Total paradise, even in rainy season!"

My husband surprised me for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been a better choice. Service was top - informative, attentive, kind. Villas were beautiful and always thoroughly cleaned. We loved villa 2 and it's definitely worth the extra for more space and free daily massages which were excellent! There's lots to do around or you can just relax as the resort has everything. Food was delicious. Thoroughly recommend.

Koyao Island Resort had great villas with an amazing view of the Bay! The concierge at the hotel was great and helped us book many different boat trips as well as rented us mopeds at a great price! The Resort is at a great central location and the whole island is a short moped ride away! It was a great home base for us to explore Koh Yao Noi and the surrounding areas! We loved staying at Koyao Island Resort and we will definitely be back!

"Wonderful romantic unpretentious beach retreat"
07/21/15 Txomas Giessen, Germany
Koyao Island Resort is the perfect retreat for a couple to from stressful city life. Bungalows facing the ocean are well thought through and one always has the sensation of being outside in nature while enjoying a very comfortable stay. Especially romantic when it was pouring outside and we felt like we were alone in the hotel. The beach upfront and the infinity pool that connects to it are great to swim and start off the day. The food at the restaurant is amazing, I recommend the masaman curry. Staff was extremely friendly and respectful. Downsides: spa was not appealing with cheaper and better options on other spots of the island. Dinner was a little bit pretentious with small luxurious food portions. You can also get better and cheaper in other restaurants in the island. The shower was a bit unsteady.

"Stunning Resort in the Most Beautiful location...."
07/16/15 TLPJP Melbourne, Australia
This beautiful resort is absolutely stunning. We are travelling on our honeymoon and were delighted when we arrived and they had upgraded us to a Beachfront Room. It is beautiful. The scenery, our gorgeous open air room, fabulous decor and all the ammenities that you could possibly need. The staff are very friendly and happy to provide any service to you with a smile. The prices are reasonable for a luxury resort. We hired a motorbike at the resort and went around the island. One of the most pristine and beautiful places we have seen in the 4 weeks of travelling Thailand. Would definately recommend to those seeking a quality and outstandingly unique experience.

"Perfect beach front getaway"
07/14/15 Andrew W Geneva, Switzerland
My wife and I stayed here for a week in March on our honeymoon. We arrived both a bit stressed from work and desperately in need of some rest. It took us a couple days to slow down to the pace of this place, but once we did, we never wanted to leave. This is a rustic, but super comfortable resort on a relatively undeveloped island. The bungalows are wide open with spectacular views of the sea and the islands towards Krabi. Ceiling fans and the breezes from the water keep you cool at night (although we were there before the really hot season). The bugs weren't too bad, but you do need to sleep under the mosquito net. Each bungalow has lots of wood and warm lighting, and a comfortable seating area. We loved the brick walled outdoor shower surrounded by tropical plants. The restaurant serves good, fresh food, though we preferred dinner over lunch, and the Thai dishes over western. The young European chef did a great job in the evening - we especially enjoyed the barbecue night. The placement of the bar was a bit odd, with the view partially blocked by the spa. The spa itself, next to a teeming fish pond, was simple, but comfortable. They have a good selection of treatments and massages, all well executed. Staff were all super friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There is a nice pool, but the sea is where you'll want to swim. It's a natural beach, so there are some rocks, which are visible at low tide. Lie on the beach or on wooden lounge chairs just above it - the perfect place to read, sip a cold beer and forget everything else. There's a little village worth visiting that's not too far up the road. We took bikes from the hotel fleet and rode around to the other side of the island - no real beaches, but mangroves, rice paddies and water buffalo - and back in an afternoon. We went on a couple of private boat excursions, one towards Chicken Island (crystal clear, blue-green waters) and a small island with a lagoon to the North. The latter was absolute paradise - nobody but us on a narrow little beach surrounded by jungle and cool waters. The hotel made all the arrangements, including a simple packed lunch of fried rice and fresh fruit. The highlight of our trip was the candlelight dinner for two, of grilled lobster and fish, on a deserted island in front of the setting sun. The only negative was the construction at the adjacent resort. If you are in any of the bungalows to the right (facing the sea) of the restaurant, you'll hear it. We were initially put in a bungalow three units away from the barrier between the two resorts and found the noise - saws, drills, construction equipment - to be unbearable. It started before 8 am and at least once went as late as 10 pm. We fled our bungalow during most of the day. At our request, the management moved us after two days (to a bungalow left of the restaurant) and suddenly we were in heaven. Do check if the construction is still ongoing and if so, be specific about your room request. In sum, this is a great place to just chill and recharge. We would go back in a heartbeat. It's pretty easy to get to from Phuket (the hotel arranged a taxi and then a private longtail strait to the beach) and a good place to start an exploration of the Andaman coast. Also a great place for families.

The rooms are amazing, the beds SO SO comfortable, we stayed in the studio room above the bar which was a little noisy but we loved it anyway! The staff were great and very attentive and the wedding was just beautiful! What a place to get married! Food was very good, especially the reception dinner! "Very peaceful and relaxing resort."
07/02/15 Jandin152 Stockport, United Kingdom
We travelled from aonang in a limousine to tha lane pier where we used the interesting public ferry and then we're collected by tuk tuk. We had torrential rain when arrived but the welcome drink was nice. We stayed in a beach villa, now with an enclosed bedroom with air-conditioning. You still feel you are outside but are kept cool at night. We had villa no. 1 right at the end of the resort and we felt like it was private and quiet. There are sun loungers outside the villa looking out at the sea and Islands. Some building work was happening near by but it didn't affect us really until the last night, where there was some loud angle grinding, my husband went round and motioned them to stop once 10 pm arrived as I think they would have carried on! This is not an issue with the hotel, but perhaps the rules of the island. They care for you and place plenty of anti mosquito repellents in the room and you sleep under a net. The breakfast is really good with lots of choice. The evening meals at the restaurant were also excellent. They recommend 2-3 dishes each but 1-2 is fine. We used the bikes to explore the island, it's small and under developed which is perfect although I think they are trying to develop it further so will not be the same in a few years. For information alcohol is not available widely outside the resorts and restaurants, I heard of one place in the town but as this is a predominantly Muslim island appropriate dress is required and no drinking alcohol out and about, very different from aonang etc. We had a boat trip to Hong island and other islands for swimming that was really good . And the guide with us was very knowledgeable. We had a complimentary massage in the spa which was nice. Very nice place would highly recommend it for a relaxing holiday.

"Disappointing"

From the moment of our arrival most of your staff were lovely - thank you. After 12 weeks of working 7 days a week, this was our break for 4 days before returning to our business. I was disappointed in view of the research I had done on the resort to be in Villa 14, and indeed our booking stated that we were to be in Villa 1, which was under renovation during our stay. (we were not notified of this) There was no mention in any emails, that half of your Villas and the restaurant would be out of action due to maintenance, and that we had been relocated to another Villa. Indeed when the restaurant finally reopened on our final night there were still tables set in the bar area as there was a private party booked in the main restaurant. We chose to walk up to Six Senses for our meals on our final day. Villa 14 (a deluxe beach villa) has the living area that opens onto the villa in fronts brick wall about 1.5m away. Add to that the toilet was leaking from the actual bowl so a paddle in urine was unavoidable. We spent our first night there and then asked to be moved. Initially we were told that it was not possible, however we were later moved to the villa in front of ours (Villa 15) which was lovely. We were relocated again on our last night back to Villa 14 unfortunately! The toilet was still not repaired and after a couple of attempts to "fix" the problem, a run of silicone was found which solved the issue until the next tenant! But surely we could have been found another Villa for our final night? The roof also obviously leaks after heavy rain as the cupboard and floor were full of water when we moved back to the Villa (mopped up but still....) Villa 14 should be removed from the Beach Villa Suite category as its' location is not good. The units further back on the grass have much a much better view than this one. Maintenance in Villa 14 was poor with the aforementioned leaking toilet that we reported on the morning after our first stay, and frankly dirty bathroom areas! We have done a lot of travel, and felt that overall our experience at (what could be fantastic) resort to be disappointing to say the least. We are also not "5 star" travellers, indeed we seek the simpler accommodation and travel experience, but there are basic standards of hygiene, comfort and service that need to be met, and finally running a bit of silicone around an obviously faulty toilet does not meet these standards. Our feeling was that the large incoming birthday party group had preference over anyone else who had booked at the resort and that to address our concerns would be far too difficult! I realise that this is off season, but maybe closing the resort altogether would be an option to arrange maintenance. To further add to my issues, I sent an email to the resort upon our return expressing everything that I have said in this review.........twice........ and no one bothered to respond. Obviously we didn't matter, which simply reflects how we felt when we were there!

This place is great! I loved so much about it. Everything was easy, beautiful, relaxing! The experience exceeded my expectations of tranquil beach vacation. Everyone of the staff was so kind, warm and friendly. The massages were a couple of the best we've had in SE Asia and we get a lot of massages! The bungalows are wonderful, open and breezy, beautifully appointed in a comfortable way, with the beach just a few steps away across a green lawn. Great swimming in both the ocean and pool. For activities, the free boat tour was great. We stopped to swim several times and Pong was a fun and informative guide. The ocean and islands are exquisite. We took the free bikes out several times to ride around the island. The bikes aren't perfect but adequate for island riding. I really loved the short mangrove walk next to the resort. There are free kayaks to borrow too. A word of caution, they can be unwieldy and dangerous to get out through the surf if there are waves. Best to wait for a calm day or exercise extreme caution when getting in. The food in the restaurant is good too. The place and the peiple made it very easy to just stay here and want for nothing.
