This is a pretty Inn in this area, just few minutes walk from the rail station, very easy to go to everywhere in the city. There are not much public facilities in this inn, however the room is big and very comfortable with all necessaries. The breakfast is simple but enough if you don't ask much. Besides, the staff there are also very friendly and enthusiastic have made us very impressive. Averagely, this is a nice place to have a stay.

The price was right. One of the lowest mid-level hotels near downtown. 5 minutes from heart of downtown and Lloyd Center. But bed was uncomfortable, the breakfast is a joke, and their 4PM check in policy is unreasonable.

I only stayed one night after doing the Seattle to Portland bicycle ride (200+ miles in one day), and since all other hotels were booked in the area, my only real complaint is that the room was tiny; and that the bathroom door opened into the bathroom, which leaves no room as the bathroom is epically tiny as well.

It was not fancy, but it was not terrible either. Good place to stay for a night, sleep and shower. Biggest complaint was that the kitchen was not allowed to have any dairy products. No butter, no cream cheese, no milk. When asked, the person at the front desk stated that this was because of a city ordnance. So we had to go across the street, to the Crown Plaza for breakfast. Other than that... we are not displeased.

Guests from Arizona flew in to visit several of our business sites in the Portland area. We booked the Shilo Inn online and assumed because of the name (and high price) that it would be excellent. When we met our guests at the motel, we were shocked at the appearance of the facility, the shady demeanor of the other guests and the frazzled reception desk attendant. We often book sight unseen, but this experience really caught us off-balance.

I booked the Shilo Inn in Portland because of the closeness of the CHER concert on the 30th of June. The room had everything we needed, a small refrigerator, a microwave, a comfy bed, enough pillows, and TV with lots of channels. And a great staff. I was able to walk from the Motel to the Moda 6 minutes and following the concert many more people were headed my way back to the Inn. Yes, I recommend the Shilo Inn. Nice place. Great price! But book in advance of your concert at the Rose Garden!!

We attended a conference at Oregon Conference Center. Shilo was within easy walking distance so we saved on parking at OCC and got some fresh air too. For breakfast variety we just walked across the street to another hotel. For dinner we walked a couple of blocks to Chipotle. Fedex was also within walking distance (just in case). We found all these places driving the first day but walked after that.

We arrived at 1pm (check in is at 4pm) and were allowed to park our vehicles in the lot while we went downtown on Max. When we arrived back at the hotel at 3pm none of the 3 rooms we had booked were clean yet. There was nowhere for us to wait so the 6 adults and a 3 year old were left to stand in the parking lot until one of the rooms was ready at 4pm. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired - butter or cream cheese for the bagels? For being a Shilo Inn we all felt this property was sub-standard. Guests need to know to book a ground floor unit if needed since there are only stairs to the 2nd floor.

The room was nice with updated furnishings, however, IMO was small to be classified as a suite. It was in the outskirts of downtown & required a car .Not much to eat nearby except fast food. Was quite and got a good nights sleep. Not enough (4) pillows for a king bed, old style small tube TV. Breakfast room closes at 9:00 AM so if you sleep in your out of luck? No coffee in lobby. Only hot food was toast, waffles or instant oatmeal. Not a great value for hundred thirty-fivea night IMO. Most likely will look for a better location closer to the downtown.

The good: mostly friendly staff and our room was kept very clean throughout our stay. There was on-site free parking, which was very nice. The not-so-good: this was an older hotel that had a musty smell as another reviewer also mentioned. When we arrived in Portland, there was a e-coli scare with the water and no one said a thing about that to us. We had learned about it from a friend also going to Portland and went back to ask about it; then we got the information. We had also booked a crib several weeks before and the person who checked us in seemed to be unaware of that and thus we got no crib. (They were able to find us one later -- when we asked about it again). If I was on a tight budget, I would stay here again, otherwise, I'd find somewhere else.

Had the strangest experience (in my limited experience) with the staff here. Very informal. One of the desk staff did not have shoes on 50% of the time, couldn't log into the computer system while I was checking in, and was using her personal cell phone. She was new, but it was still a bit bizarre. The other odd thing was that just about every time I left and came back, my key card did not work. Even once after the desk staff re-magnetized it, it did not work on my door. Just made me feel like I was going crazy.

Overall it was a pleasant experience. For being in central location in Portland it was priced nicely. There was a big game going on at the center but our room was pretty quiet, which was not the xpcase when we stayed at the "Inn at the Convention Center". The biggest issue I had was the size of the bathroom. If you are a larger person, it could be an issue. The space between door and toilet is ridiculously small. You almost have to stand next to the toilet just to shut the door. Not a huge issue but could make someone's life miserable if they are big. Also, the shower was very poor in water pressure. As for location, it's great. Easy walk to public main line going into Pearl and other districts as well as easy drive if you want to take your car. The hotel staff was very nice, the room was clean, the bed comfortable. I would stay again, if needed.

I've now stayed here 3 times. The first was wonderful, great night sleep and plenty of items in the hospitality room for breakfast. The 2nd stay was comparable but the breakfast was slightly disappointing. This last stay however was not as nice. Our neighbors were LOUD slamming doors, knocking on doors etc until 4am. Went to the hospitality room for breakfast and there was almost nothing there.

We were visiting Portland for a few nights and wanted a place to stay that was close enough to downtown to be convenient but without the price tag of actually being downtown. Some of the upholstery in our room seemed a bit old (there were some tears in the desk chair and some worn spots on our comforter), but overall the room still felt clean, safe, and quiet at about half the price of the other hotels in the area. The bed was a bit on the harder side and what you'd expect at this price point - no fluffy mattress pillowtop or fancy pillows, but comfortable enough to sleep well. There's not much to do in the neighborhood itself (unless you're looking to go to a Blazer's game, it's mostly hotels and the convention center) but it never took us more than 10 minutes to drive to wherever we were going downtown. Aaaand, parking is so cheap in Portland that it wasn't too much of a burden to have our car with us. If you can afford it, stay downtown and walk everywhere. But, if you're visiting Portland on a budget, this is an affordable no-frills, but quiet, safe, and convenient location to rest your head.

Noisy noisy noisy. Each time another room unit door closes, the building shakes. Shower handle was falling off, couldn't get it to go past lukewarm. Bed was jiggly as all heck. Due to paper thin walls, could hear all sorts of banging and knocking while trying to sleep.. That was at 12am. Every time a max transit would go by, felt like an earthquake. That said, the staff were simply lovely and fantastic!

This hotel served it's purpose, really just needed a place for one night for an event the next day. It was clean and for being an older hotel some things were nicely new, or newer, nice shower curtains, products were organic, blow dryer seemed new. But it's still an older hotel, had a smell when we got to the room, we sort of got used to it, and the bed was not the most comfortable, not as firm as most hotels.Breakfast was meak, no protein, not even yogurt but there was oatmeal and pretty good coffee, small room to eat but it was not busy. Room was small, heater was sort of loud. Our window looked at the road, but parking was free.Close to the even we were going to . This was just not the hotels we have had recently, so I think it's just a matter of location for the price, if you are needed to be downtown it will be expensive and I wanted something under $100. So you get what you pay for I guess in the area. Not grossed out but not quite satisfied.Would probably slurg next time and look at pictures more closely too, for type of bedspread, amount of pillows etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here at the Shilo Inn! Bed was very comfortable, room was spacious and clean, awesome to have a fridge and microwave! It is within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and only a 5 minute walk to the MAX line so perfect location. The shower was very hot, however the water pressure kind of stunk and you had to shimmy around the toilet (and I'm a petite person) to close the door because the bathroom is so small. It didn't really bother me though. Breakfast was OK, I appreciate that they offered something to guests, however they really need to make some improvements. Orange juice, applejuice, nutrigrain bars, oatmeal, muffins, and bagels were offered each day (no biggie...) BUT they didn't offer cream cheese or even milk. So everyone drinking coffee kept looking for milk and everyone eating a bagel all asked "where's the cream cheese?". They did offer small creamers for the coffee and peanut butter or blackberry jam for the bagels, but it would have been nice to have milk and cream cheese. Overall I was very happy with my stay and I'll definately stay here again!

The main asset is its location 5-10 minutes walk from the Convention Center, Rose Garden, OMSI, and the MAX light rail system to all other Portland destinations. The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was a joke: no milk, yogurt, cream cheese or any dairy. Coffee, OJ, bagels, & power-bars and that was it, not even dry cereals. I had to go to 7-11 across the street for yogurt & milk, and to Subway a couple blocks away for an egg-bacon sandwich. The staff was very nice and accommodating.

We booked this hotel because it was close to downtown Portland and we could get a studio suite type room, which would give us more space. We booked a room that was supposed to have a King bed with a separate seating area with a couch. What we got was a King bed with about 3 feet clearance on either side of the bed, and not much more at the foot. No couch, no separate seating area. The front desk guy was exceedingly pleasant, but essentially said the online reservation people (hotels.com) showed the wrong picture & it's their fault. They had no more of that type room available, and we ended up booking a second room. We did get a very reduced rate for the second room, but for what we ended up paying for both rooms, we should have gone elsewhere & booked a 1 room suite. I book a lot of rooms on hotels.com & haven't had this problem before, so I tend to think the problem is on the hotel's end. Rooms were clean, very small, and dated. Bathroom is so small you have to sit on the toilet to close or open the door. Pretty good continental breakfast. If you want to save money staying downtown & it's just one person, go for it. You'll get what you pay for. If there's more than one of you, the room is basically a bed.

Overall, it is a good hotel. The staff was very kind, and the location is convenient enough because there is a station close by. We decided to stay there because it was cheaper than other hotels. Maybe that's why some of those who stayed there were not nice. People in next room came back to the room very late; they shut the door very loudly and they started talking on the phone in the hallway, which we clearly could hear after midnight. Maybe the wall of the hotel was very thin or it's just people who afford cheaper hotels...anyway, it may not be the hotel's fault but we think we should choose a bit nicer hotel next time.

Hotel room pics were exactly like as expected on the website. A little bit of mold around the bath tub, but I know that is a tough battle. The hotel staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Parking was free compared to all surrounding hotels! It was a great convenience to make a short walk to the Rose Quarter MAX station to ride downtown, hit the food carts, and enjoy Powell's and a nice day out in the sunshine. Overall, we had a great experience!!!!!

The room was much nicer than I expected for the price. You could tell it had been recently updated. Very satisfied with room and the front desk staff. One and only thing I would have liked is to have the free breakfast go later, especially on a Sunday. It was over at 9am. Having it available until 10am would have been nice. Great place to stay, close walking to everything and short cab ride to downtown. I would definitely stay there again.

Shilo Inn was fine and the bed and room were good, however I was a little surprised when the management told me they did not provide milk for breakfast. I would think if they offer oatmeal, they would provide milk.

My son and I stayed here for one night and we had double beds. He woke up the next morning with bed bug bites all over his body. The toilet leaked pretty bad from the bottom. This hotel is a 5 minute walk from the convention center and pretty close to eating facilities. The decor inside is very old fashioned and needs an update. The price is not worth the stay. They do offer bagels, juice and coffee for their continental breakfast but everything in this hotel seemed so gloomy. I wouldn't choose to stay here again.

I was very surprised with the shilo inn. It was immaculately clean. Their service was prompt and professional. The location to the moda center was prime. The mini suite was more than i expected. It had a king size (very comfortable) bed with a microwave and fridge. I oved how check out was at noon so i didnt feel rushed. The only thing i would recommend is that breakfast last till 10 rather than 9. For 70 bucks, i got everything i needed and was very happy.

This was a great hotel for the price. Location was perfect for the convention center. Starbucks across the street and a few restaurants nearby. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Also very quiet. We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is located very close to the Rose Quarter/Moda Center which was why we booked it. The hotel had very outdated rooms, smelled like 40 years of cigarette smoke, and the wi-fi did not work at all. Do yourself a favor and shell out the extra money for the Crowne Plaza across the street.

Lots of help from staff to find Arena and restaurants. The weekend we stayed happened to be the snowstorm. Very accommodating personnel. Easy access to mass transit.

This hotel is close to my work so when "Snowmaggedeon" started on February 6th, 2014, I made the decision to stay overnight in town and not chance driving home. My daily commute is 1.5 hours a day EACH direction and the roads were already 100% gridlocked. My room was very classy and the bed was comfortable. Great experience over all and I will definitely stay again.

My stay at The Shilo was extremely enjoyable. The service staff should be awarded for best customer service in Oregon because they were seriously the most friendly and helpful people I had dealt with my entire trip. Hotel had everything you needed and was nice clean. If I could make one change it would be to upgrade the television or possibly swap out swinging door for sliding door to bathroom in room. Was a tight squeeze.
