This hotel is great for couples and families. We stayed there for 6 days with another couple and we enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is very well kept and nice. The one benefit of all of the restaurants were that you didn't have to make a reservation, but there was a long line to get a table. Our experience overall was very good. The food was excellent in all of the restaurants and the room was very clean. All of the staff was friendly but some seemed to enjoy interfacing with the guests more than others. Juan, at the Sports Bar was great! My boyfriend and I, along with two other couples, just returned from the Ocean Blue in early January. We were there for 5 nights, and wished it could of been more! I'm not one to write reviews but decided to because before we left I was a bit nervous about the quality of this resort based on some of the reviews. The overall appearance of the resort is very well kept and maintained. When we first got in our room, our first impression was how big and spacious they were. We did however have problems with our safe. But one phone call and a few minutes later it was up and running just fine with no further problems. The food was above average for a large all inclusive resort. We only ate at the buffet once for dinner, but found for breakfast and lunch you could definitely find something to eat at one of the many buffet tables. The ala carte restaurants were our favorite for evening dinning. The steakhouse and the Mexican restaurants were among our favorites! The pool is very large and offers a perfect mix of relaxation and entertainment. We never had problems finding a space to lounge. The ocean front area is also nice and offers plenty of lounge chairs. We loved going for early morning walks on the beach, which was also good for swimming. Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort to a friend and would also love to stay there again. My husband and I had reserved a king nonsmoking junior sweet for our honeymoon. Unfortunately the room we got had 2 double beds and was a smoking room. There was no coffee maker and the safe, telephone and alarm clock was broken. This was our second visit to Punta Cana at the Ocean Blue. We loved the hotel and the kindness attention from the personnel. At the Tortuga / Carey Buffet the food was good and the variety of dishes was excellent. We enjoyed the afternoon coffee at Mike' shope. The waitresses were always ready to accommodate our group of 10. The activities were awesome! […] We loved just watching the little guy dancing with big ladies, that was funny. The only constructive critic: International phone calls. There is no way to make a telephone call unless you purchase a card at the gift shop, then pay a fee to the hotel. Well, I've never complained about a travel experience before, but I have to speak up. We booked a King bed, and were greeted with 2 full beds. We had to go back to the front desk (about a 5 minute walk each time) over two days only to be told "too bad," so my girlfriend and I slept on two separate beds pushed together, to which we were told, "but nobody […] ever complains about the two beds together." Strike One. Strike Two: The resort allows peddlers onto the property to harass guests, all in addition to the ever-present timeshare salesmen. Tip: You MUST be downright hostile to said peddlers in order to be left alone. Don't even LOOK in their direction, or they will follow you. It's quite convenient the resort allowed them to set up next to the pool, and in front of the dining areas. Also, a piece of advice: The Cigar Shop ON PROPERTY is full of counterfeit and overpriced cigars. They will also give your room # to salesmen. Strike Three: Being turned away from the mostly empty restaurant by the beach, which does NOT require reservations, because we had no reservation. They were required for that night only. No compromise allowed. This is a nice property, beautiful pool and beach, strong drinks, non-pushy and entertaining staff and bartenders...but really? The food is mostly edible (we do have higher standards than most), but (and I HATE to say this), you're probably better off looking to spend your vacation money elsewhere. Very nice place to stay, needs a little upkeep. Grounds were beautiful, staff very pleasent, always saying "Hola". Could use some new mattresses in the rooms, but whenever you called the front desk for anything they were very nice and accomodating. Enjoyed the themed buffet nights. Lots of different foods to try, and if you didn't like the buffet there […] is Route 66, Margarita (Mexican) a Dominican Restaurant, Coffee house. There is also a steak restaurant (requires reservations) prepare to get up and have your name in by 7 am, they then give you a slip with a number, if you number gets pulled (lottery system) you can have dinner there. But they don't tell you this. Also before you get your room you want to try to get into Villa 3, 4, or 5. Closer to pools, nicer and try and get a room with a balcony facing pool, not the back (not a pretty site). Was there with a large group, had ALOT of fun, loved the swim up bar. My daughter really enjoyed the disco at night. I was a little nervous to let her run around since she's only 15, but it seemed pretty safe. The hotel kept its standard - well maintained, clean, a good variety of foods, entertainment, etc. However, it seemed as if the staff/service was lacking this time around. You have to get around by cab they are pricey anywhere from ten to twenty dollars US a ride, you can talk them down too. We had the best time at Ocean Blue & Sand. We spent a little extra for the Privilege package and it was worth it. Also know tipping goes a long way. The room had roaches so I changed to another room and it also had roaches. The Orkin man (roach spray man) was spotted spraying the premises often. The restaurants cannot accomodate all guests so you either wait an hour for dinner or hit the buffet every night. The staff have no hospitality skills and do not respond well to requests. This review is strictly base on the fact that we paid for privilege upgrade and felt there was nothing privileged about it. I would recommend this hotel as a regular guest. With that said, don't waste your money on a privilege upgrade. You will get the same treatment no matter what. The only thing privilege provides is the opportunity to secure a cabana […] on the beach and there are only so many cabana's for the privilege guests. You also get a "butler" that you will probably never see after your arrival. You can drink top shelf liquor when ordering but if you are a non-privilege guest you can get that anyway by tipping the bartender. As a privilege guest you get a voucher to eat at the restaurant by the sea, El Bucareno. Had lobster and steak. Pretty good. Food: The steak house El Bodegon. Horrible. The tomato soup is straight up tomato paste with water. I verified this with the waiter. The sirloin had to be cut with a hacksaw. Maybe I should have ordered the fillet. Italian was alright. The main buffet is good. Plenty of choices and a different theme every night. It is true that if you do not speak English some workers will ignore you. I speak Spanish so I did not have this problem but did notice it with my wife as she is a non-Spanish speaker. The beach is beautiful. No complaints there. Fine white sand and clear water. Just having the access to the private section of the beach with the cabanas would have made the upgrade worth it alone. The food at he steak house and seafood restaurant, (seafood included in the upgrade) was out of this world. You need to have the filet at the steak house, one of the best steaks you will eat. We did eat at the Dominican food was also very good and at the Mexican, which was so so. One night we tried the buffet and we were very impressed with the quality of the food at a buffet. The entire staff at Oceans Blue and Sand were very friendly and made our 25 wedding anniversary celebration a wonderful experience. All of the bartenders at the lobby bar were great. However there were a few staff members that did go above and beyond any expectations I could have had.
