A short guide to Liverpool

Most people probably associate Liverpool the most with the 1960s pop group “The Beatles.” While the city's airport is indeed named after the late band member John Lennon, there is also more to this eastern English city. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004, Liverpool is known for its variety of architectural styles and for its system of locks and canals.

My partner and I had a great short break in Liverpool and stayed at the Dolby Hotel. The room was fine- clean and had T.V., coffee making facilities and a good view of the Albert Docks. The bathroom was a large cubicle but was adequate and clean. The breakfasts (not included in our stay) were very nice and the dining area was on the waterfront side of the hotel. The Dolby Hotel was sited near to a casino but we had no extra noise from this and it was only a 5 or 10 minute walk to the Docks, cinema and new shopping area. Saturday night was quite noisy due to the hen night and wedding season, but the rest of the time we were there it was quiet.

Multitasking staff were friendly and helpful. I would recomend this hotel with no hesitation.

Very much a budget hotel but in a convenient location for Albert Dock area of Liverpool. Welcome and service by the very young staff was a tad surly. Room was clean but basic. En-suite was very small with a shower of the kind where you're fighting the shower curtain as it clings to you! It was very noisy throughout the night with constant comings and goings. Even had a knock on my door at 4am by a youth that had gone to wrong room number. There was a security chain however so felt I could open door as I was a lone female. A friend of mine was staying in the Premier Inn which for the little bit extra cost was far superior. Wish I'd done the same!

Upon walking into the Dolby Hotel I was "greeted" by a surly redheaded girl who wanted no part of helping to check me into the hotel despite the fact she was sitting behind the check-in desk. Rooms were tiny, not the cleanest, and beds were unbelievably uncomfortable. The redhead continued her wonderful service by just shrugging her shoulders when asked how to get to the Liverpool Airport and was one of the rudest people I have ever met. Not a good person to have working at a hospitality oriented facility. Two thumbs way down. Avoid the Dolby Hotel at all costs - plenty of other options in Liverpool. Don't waste your time or your money.

The hotel could be described as cheap and cheerful. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, the rooms were very basic but clean and the bathroom/shower was all contained in what could be described as a capsule in the corner of the room. Smallest shower I have ever been in with the curtain too eager to embrace you when you turn on the shower. It was value for money and okay as a stop off point on the way through to another destination, however I wouldn't consider staying there for any length of time as it wouldn't be comfortable enough.

We got up and went to the Travelodge down the road which was only 13 pounds more expensive. This hotel would be good for people drinking and hitting the town in Liverpool. Hotel isn't as far from the city centre as expected, less than a 10 min walk from the main bus station. However, that's pretty much the only thing going for the hotel! we were three girls staying together and it was fairly impossible to move within the room. Then the bathroom door was opened.... it looks as though it was added on as an afterthought rather than being an integral part of the room!! The shower was awful, felt like someone had just cut a hole in the roof and then was slowly trickling water through it! To have a shower also meant to flood the entire plastic bathroom, hot water tap didn't work and to turn the cold one meant the entire tap moved. I know it's a budget hotel but there are standards. However, all staff were lovely and friendly so can't fault that!

This isnt the ritz but if you looking for something close to town, clean, quiet, good views of mersey (from back rooms) excellent staff and very reasonable price, this is a great find. The beds are pretty basic (fine for couple of nights) but tv, size of room and bathroom are all good. Just watch, no lifts and a 3rd bunk bed for triple rooms, not really suitable for large adult or any kind of mobility problem.

The staff in the hotel were very friendly. We went to the hotel in the morning and they looked after our bags in a secure location until we went back later. This meant that we didnt have to carry bags around all day. They also gave us the room key then so that we didnt have to check in later in the day. The room and en suite was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The view from the room overlooked the Queens Docks and looked beautiful both at in the day and at night. The room was basic but suited us as we were only using it to sleep in because we were out all day. The bathroom was very small but it had a toilet, sink and shower so it wasnt a problem at all. The bathroom wouldnt really suit somebody with a kid but it was was fine for us. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk away from the City Centre but it is a nice walk past the Albert Dock or through the newly built Liverpool One. All in all it was a nice stay and I would definitely stay here again. The price was excellent for the standard of the hotel and we were expecting alot less than we actually got.

As this is so close to the centre it is very noisy from 1am to around 5am with those returning from the clubs etc. Beware of the showers they are very small, with a plastic curtain, and it will flood the rest of the room, we had to ask for extra towels just to dry it out!! When told about this the reply was "that all the rooms are the same"!!!! We will not be staying here again.

really small room and bathroom, it looked like a boat cabin. though the worst was that one day we didn't have hot water (during freezing january) so overall, I won't come back. however, I have to say that this was the only hotel with decent prices....it's just that for the price we paid I still would have liked more of a hotel room and not a hostel. oh, and no breakfast included!!

The rooms were very small and the shower room cramped - it was impossible to shower without getting water all over the floor! However, it was very clean, warm and had a supply of tea, coffee etc so for the price, free parking and location it was excellent value. For one or two nights only I'd happily stay there again. We didn't use our car all weekend but walked into the town centre and to Albert Dock, all very close at hand.
