We stayed in madonna inn when we drove from LA to SF. The location is great- right in the middle between the two cities. We don't really know what the area has to offer since we didn't leave the hotel. The pool is nice and the view is relaxing and great. The rooms are amazing- so pretty and sooooo tacky (which I love).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's a little tired"
Heard so much about this Inn but it was a little disappointing. This establishment needs a little updating. There was nothing special about the room except that it was all pink.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"such a unique and fun experience"
We had a great time at the pool and the food at the restaurant was great. Even bought a cake the next morning to take to friends :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Last minute decision that we didn't regret. Enjoyed the pool with the waterfall and the patio bar. Went for a walk then enjoyed lunch. Every room is unique with lots of details. Great privacy; we never heard anything from any of the other rooms, which were occupied. We appreciated the attention to detail and the quality of the little things like the […] lotion and body wash. The staff was friendly and attentive in the restaurant and onsite shops. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Las Vegas version of a Motel 6"
It's a truly unique hotel and I love all the different rooms. It was a little disappointing not to be able to pick the room that I wanted, especially when I was willing to pay more money! The cafe was delicious and the pool/hot tub was extremely relaxing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My friend and I were just passing through on a road trip and decided to stay at the Madonna Inn. Since we booked through Hotels.com we couldnt select the room we wanted. We stayed in the Rose Room which was cool (also handicap accessible), but not as funky as I was hoping for. The room was clean and the bed was comfy so I would definitely stay there […] again and check out another room. Short drive to the downtown area. Stayed on a Thursday night when they have their farmers market and a ton of yummy street food. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"For Something truly Unique"
Rooms are so unique and fun. Pool was warm. Main restaurant was great. Food excellent, live band with dancing, truly a fabulous stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
Room was very PINK. We expected that though since this hotel is famous for having weirdly decorated rooms. Room was clean, toilet was self-warming and shower was nice. Pool was amazing--warm and large!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Unique And Not To Be Missed"
The Madonna Inn is one of a kind and should be experienced at least once (I've stayed at the hotel twice and have eaten here many times over the years). My only complaint is that I did not find the mattress that comfortable, otherwise, everything was great because it is all so unique. I love the kitsch of it all. The staff is beyond nice, the food is […] good, the desserts are a cut above. I personally recommend the toffee cake, but they are all good. This is a great place to take children because of the decor. Do not miss the men's bathroom - just make sure it is empty before you go in. A big recommend from me, most especially if you have kids. Also, the area is filled with things to do. We went to Hearst's Castle (approximately an hour away) and Cambria, which is a charming town (approximately 1/2 hour away) and Morro Rock. Pismo Beach is also nearby. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fun idea, Tired Rooms"
Wouldn't stay there again as the rooms felt old and tired...the idea of the hotel is great though and the pool is BEAUTIFUL and warm. Overpriced for a novelty hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a great time. This is a wonderful hotel with a great staff and so many nuances for every type of traveler. Delicious food, tasty cocktails. You do have to bring some dollars, but it's worth every penny. Pool was awesome. Everyone should stay here at least once in their lifetime.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel with Character"
Overall I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Hotel has a lot of "character". Nice pool area, and I enjoyed my dinner at the bar/restaurant. I had issues with wifi in multiple areas of the property for ipad/iphone which I reported twice with no resolution. They did credit my resort fee since that was all they could do with a 3rd party booking. I would stay […] here again if I was in the area or passing through. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"fun place to stay in beautiful san luis obispo"
The Madonna Inn is a really fun hotel that is clean, with great service, and has great amenities. We didn't spend too much time at the hotel, but we had the Fabulous 50s room which was really fun, and we made use of the pool which was great! It's heated and open late until 11:00. Definitely would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The facility and the rooms are unique and wondeful-- all rooms are "thematic" and ours had great detail and furnishings that reflected Native American Culture. At check-in, however, it was clear we were not in the "same class" as guests who registered directly with the hotel or in more expensive rooms. The check-in personnel made me feel like it was […] a bother to register me, but other guests got smiles and polite small talk. Although check-out was at noon, our room was not ready until almost 4 and people who arrived after us in adjacent rooms were helped first and were placed in their rooms before us. To the credit of the late shift, they were apolgetic and polite. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good Stop From LA to SF"
Very fun hotel. Great food!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The perfect example of overstated 50's era "elegance." The room was clean, the pool was amazing, and the staff were great. Our kids enjoyed the hotel and were sorry to leave. Although I initially had my doubts about staying in such an obvious touristy place, I would happily go there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great pool & spa! Interesting rooms. Comfy beds. Small TVsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"So much fun!"
Each room has a name (and its own postcard!) and a theme. The room was very spacious, had a modern bathroom with a soaking tub and a beautiful view out the door. The beds were comfortable. The pool is spectacular and overlooks San Luis Obispo. It is heated to 85 degrees. We will definitely be staying here again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a pleasure for all my family! The room was clean, the restorant was amazing! We will be back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dated, But Truly Unique Hotel"
I knew about the Madonna Inn for decades, and even passed it several times on my way up to northern CA, but I never had stayed there until this past week. For those unfamiliar, this is a "themed" hotel. Each room is decorated (over the top, by the way) with a different theme. You can pick your own theme via the website. Our room was pleaasant enough, […] but it had a major problem: it was on the third floor AND there are no elevators at the Madonna Inn. For the young this is probably not a concern, but for the elderly and those with even a minor mobility handicap it could be a major problem. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great overnight stay"
Love hotel but you can't have anyone come hang out with you at the pool if they are not guests. This is problematic since we usually are here to visit friends in the area and our kids want to swim, but management asks our friends to leave if they come to pool with us. Rooms are big with fun decorations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We only stayed one night, but we enjoyed it. I would describe the hotel as gauditastic. The decor is all over the top ornate, which is completely the point and part of the fun. The beds were okay, not uncomfortable, but not the kind you sink in to either. It was really clean, the bathroom in our room was updated and the food at the restaurant was f […] antastic. Too much money (even with the discounted rate for booking in advance) for something that is not all that. The receptionist at my arrival was very nice but the one at check out was just not worth talking to, like she didn't care about customer satisfaction, not even a smile.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Had A Blast"
I was on a Road Trip from San Jose to LA with my friends and we LOVED it here. It's kitschy, but that's what we were looking for. We also had dinner in the restaurant and it was just a fun experience overall. The staff at both the hotel and restaurant were extremely friendly. I highly recommend for a fun night out!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great get away weekend"
After three nights at the Madonna Inn we couldn't remember the name of the other place we had first tried to book. A real highlight was nightly dancing, and let's be real: few if any places have made this kind of dedication to fun and great food that don't have a bunch of dull-eyed gamblers in your way. Traveling there and back on the train made it […] a car free fun filled five days - I'd recommend it to any one who really knows what life is about. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This place is hit or miss. The theme of my room was "old western town", and my wife and kid were not happy about it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Unique place to stay"
One of a kind hotel. A bit pricey, but I'd rather pay for the unique experience than for an overpriced chain hotel. Very fun atmosphere, terrific setting. We stayed in an economy room with a horse theme. Wallpaper, shower tiles, hanging from the ceiling, paintings, etc. Heated toilet seat and built in bidet was fun. The woman in the gift shop told us […] that about 25% of the rooms have specialties related to construction of rock. The "Caveman" room is the most popular but is booked a year in advance. "Outdated and overpriced"
We thought that the hotel had old rugs, couches and bedspreads. Everything smelled old and dusty in the room and also in the restaurant. They need to replace anything made of cloth. We used no resort facilities because we were there for a college visit- then they charged us $15 per head "resort fee" even though we did not use the pool, hot tub or gym. […] They should just wrap that in to the price and report the price completely. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Didn't Live Up To Its Repuation At All!"
Having lived in San Luis Obispo for 3 years, I am very familiar with the Madonna Inn and was very excited to stay there, knowing it's reputation for mixing a high-class experience with quirky charm. The experience ended up being underwhelming, to say the least. We stayed in the Fabulous Fifties room. The carpet was DISGUSTING. It was supposed to be […] a dark pink, but it was so black (especially near the door) that I was afraid to take my shoes off, and it made me question what else in the room hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Even worse, that morning we were woken up at 7 a.m. by a sharp pounding/knocking sound on the roof of our room that shook our ceiling. This proceeded to repeat every 10 to 15 minutes for two hours. Also, another word of warning (something I heard another guest complaining about at the front desk at the exact same time as me): the walls are so thin that you can hear your neighbors talking even in a normal voice. This I'm willing to give them a pass on because it is a historical old building. But the rest of it was simply inexcusable. The front desk was very courteous when I voiced my complaints, and waived my resort fee of $15. They couldn't refund my whole stay because it was booked through Hotels.com. I am still awaiting a call from the manager just so I can tell him about the issues. I would not stay here again, especially for the price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I stayed here when we were on the road and passing through. Super over priced for an uncomfortable room. We did not find it to be as much fun as some of the reviews I read before we booked. The room was musty and the furniture was old and beat up, uncomfortable. We did not have a moment of quiet, as our room was under the common area. […] Super super loud. We could also hear everything happening outside of our room. Very disappointed. I booked this thinking it would be a fun experience and I only felt we overpaid. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a great stay - it was on our bucket list and glad we had the opportunity. It should be more clear which rooms are in which category. It is awesome there are so many unique rooms, but ours was blah. I would have paid more for something more unique, but I could not tell from the reservation process.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Called 2 days ahead & explained I was going to be in area early and asked for an early check in. She offered to check me in at 12pm. At 1:45 the desk agent bluntly tells me that my room won't be ready until 3pm I told her that I called and was told I could check in early. Then this woman rudely announces to the entire lobby "You booked through Expedia, […] so who knows what they told you, there's no way we would have ever told you that." I explained that I was positive that I was speaking with the hotel directly and didn't understand why where I booked from made a difference. I tried to leave my cell phone number incase the room was ready earlier. She refused to take it saying there was no way it would be ready earlier. While giving me directions to the pool I asked a question, & she snapped at me" that was what I was trying to explain but obviously you're not getting it." I spoke to manager, Emily, who offered to have the room cleaned & would call me when it was ready. She also sent up a bottle of Champagne to the room for the inconvenience. When I got into my room the guy hands me a WARM bottle of Champagne not sure about you but I don't remember the last time I drank hot Champagne I asked where the nearest ice machine was, he said he didn't know. I asked if there was anyone else out in the hallway he could ask, he just said there was nobody and left! It's a good thing that this place has its kitsch to rely on to keep people coming here or they would be out of business for sure Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
