"Fun & Tacky Awesomeness"
Loved it! Just such a unique experience. Have an open mind and you'll love it. If you have no sense of humor or fun, don't go.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was great!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My experience was nice, however when I was told I got Whats Left I was taken aback, my first thought was not very welcoming. Perhaps if the room was called A Little of Everything my first impression would have been a lot more positive.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was a positive experiance. Will be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"This place is hit or miss"
This place is hit or miss. The theme of my room was "old western town", and my wife and kid were not happy about it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Way too pricey for what you get.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Unique place to stay"
One of a kind hotel. A bit pricey, but I'd rather pay for the unique experience than for an overpriced chain hotel. Very fun atmosphere, terrific setting. We stayed in an economy room with a horse theme. Wallpaper, shower tiles, hanging from the ceiling, paintings, etc. Heated toilet seat and built in bidet was fun. The woman in the gift shop told us […] that about 25% of the rooms have specialties related to construction of rock. The "Caveman" room is the most popular but is booked a year in advance. Every room is decorated in kitsch style, but very interesting. Parking was problem.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Historic hotel with great rooms."
Great atmosphere. Fun area. In the middle of the happiest city in America. Only gripe was the cost of the room and the price of everything there. Definitely a pricey adventure, but a great one...Genuine Expedia guest review

I wish I was able to stay there longer. It's a very relaxing and wonderful. The staff was great and very helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Outdated and overpriced"
We thought that the hotel had old rugs, couches and bedspreads. Everything smelled old and dusty in the room and also in the restaurant. They need to replace anything made of cloth. We used no resort facilities because we were there for a college visit- then they charged us $15 per head "resort fee" even though we did not use the pool, hot tub or gym. […] They should just wrap that in to the price and report the price completely. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Didn't Live Up To Its Repuation At All!"
Having lived in San Luis Obispo for 3 years, I am very familiar with the Madonna Inn and was very excited to stay there, knowing it's reputation for mixing a high-class experience with quirky charm. The experience ended up being underwhelming, to say the least. We stayed in the Fabulous Fifties room. The carpet was DISGUSTING. It was supposed to be […] a dark pink, but it was so black (especially near the door) that I was afraid to take my shoes off, and it made me question what else in the room hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Even worse, that morning we were woken up at 7 a.m. by a sharp pounding/knocking sound on the roof of our room that shook our ceiling. This proceeded to repeat every 10 to 15 minutes for two hours. Also, another word of warning (something I heard another guest complaining about at the front desk at the exact same time as me): the walls are so thin that you can hear your neighbors talking even in a normal voice. This I'm willing to give them a pass on because it is a historical old building. But the rest of it was simply inexcusable. The front desk was very courteous when I voiced my complaints, and waived my resort fee of $15. They couldn't refund my whole stay because it was booked through Hotels.com. I am still awaiting a call from the manager just so I can tell him about the issues. I would not stay here again, especially for the price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I stayed here when we were on the road and passing through. Super over priced for an uncomfortable room. We did not find it to be as much fun as some of the reviews I read before we booked. The room was musty and the furniture was old and beat up, uncomfortable. We did not have a moment of quiet, as our room was under the common area. […] Super super loud. We could also hear everything happening outside of our room. Very disappointed. I booked this thinking it would be a fun experience and I only felt we overpaid. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a great stay - it was on our bucket list and glad we had the opportunity. It should be more clear which rooms are in which category. It is awesome there are so many unique rooms, but ours was blah. I would have paid more for something more unique, but I could not tell from the reservation process.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Called 2 days ahead & explained I was going to be in area early and asked for an early check in. She offered to check me in at 12pm. At 1:45 the desk agent bluntly tells me that my room won't be ready until 3pm I told her that I called and was told I could check in early. Then this woman rudely announces to the entire lobby "You booked through Expedia, […] so who knows what they told you, there's no way we would have ever told you that." I explained that I was positive that I was speaking with the hotel directly and didn't understand why where I booked from made a difference. I tried to leave my cell phone number incase the room was ready earlier. She refused to take it saying there was no way it would be ready earlier. While giving me directions to the pool I asked a question, & she snapped at me" that was what I was trying to explain but obviously you're not getting it." I spoke to manager, Emily, who offered to have the room cleaned & would call me when it was ready. She also sent up a bottle of Champagne to the room for the inconvenience. When I got into my room the guy hands me a WARM bottle of Champagne not sure about you but I don't remember the last time I drank hot Champagne I asked where the nearest ice machine was, he said he didn't know. I asked if there was anyone else out in the hallway he could ask, he just said there was nobody and left! It's a good thing that this place has its kitsch to rely on to keep people coming here or they would be out of business for sure Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Birthday for my daughter turning 50"
Room prices too high. That's the only negative. Food great, both quality and quantity. Evening meal had orchestra and dancing which was a delight, and sadly missing in so many restaurants in later years. One sink drain stop didn't work and had to leave a note. Service people did excellent job, and made you feel welcome.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great V-day destination!"
We always drive by and say we need to stay here, and now we have. Valentine's Day is the perfect time to stay at a place that is pink everywhere and it was fun. Rooms are old and obviously kitschy and that is part of the appeal. The heated outdoor pool was the best part according to our four year old and they do offer drink service at the pool. Wish […] they had extra towels more readily available though. Seems to be a popular place for blue-hairs and the Rockabilly crowd. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very quiet and private. No refrigerator in room. Small water leak in bathroom on floor, next to exterior wall, under window, on right side of toilet. The restaurant was very good and service people very friendly. Will stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Romantic hotel close to Hwy 101"
Had the fan on and heater, after we turned it off, the noise from traffic on Hwy 101 was loud and annoying. Perhaps it was the direction of the wind, because the receptionist said normally you cannot hear the traffic from building one where we stayed.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great place close to SLO and Beach!"
We loved it, every minute of it and every bit of it. The Madonna Inn is a must do! Put it on your bucket list. It's something you'll never forget. Rooms are so cool.Genuine Expedia guest review
I loved it! The room was nice and the Pool area was beautiful and HEATED!! Only thing not happy with was the Resort Fee. Never had paid one in the past and now its something new.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was ok. Nothing fancy for the money we paid to stay. No wifi in the room, continental breakfast is an additional $10 per person, they put a hold on my card for $245 on top of the money I paid for the room. It was ok but I won't stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Only if you must have kitch"
The property is easily reached and reception is pleasant. Rooms have individual themes. Our room (antique cars) was large. well appointed and had an excellent bathroom - however, there is so little lighting that you cannot read a book in bed or see well except in the day with the very public window open. A call to the management asking for a reading […] lamp was responded to with a commitment to look into it. There was never any action. The pool area is lovely and the fitness center has a few good quality machines but is hardly impressive. The dining areas are noisy, crowded and more ugly than kitchy. Fortunately, there are good places to eat in town Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It's good. Restaurants are gorgeous. Especially, men's bathroom is amazing! But, expensive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Original, but disappointing"
While a number of the specially decorated rooms get most of the attention on their website, the "regular" rooms feel like motel rooms with a few unique decorations thrown in. The bathroom had a faint whiff of urine, and there aren't a lot of outlets to recharge your phone or laptop. Be forewarned that a resort fee will be tacked on, regardless of what […] time you check in or whether you use the pool, parking or internet service in the public areas. Call the restaurant ahead to get on the list for breakfast, the wait was over 30 minutes for walk-ins. High end in-room coffee packs and the food at the restaurant were notably good. "Fun, unique hotel experience"
This was the second time my wife and I have stayed at the Madonna Inn, and we absolutely love it. I assume that some rooms are better (i.e., more fun) than others so my advice is to splurge a little and pick out a good room. Sure, it's a bit pricier than your average stay, but your room will be one-of-a-kind.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was wonderful, service was great, we really enjoyed ourselves. Just wish we could have stayed longer.Genuine Expedia guest review
"I have been wanting to stay here since I was a kid"
Loved our room, and the quirky decor of the hotel. Every staff member we encountered was incredibly sweet and attentive. The spa facility was amazing. We did have an issue with overly drunk, loud people right outside our room at 2am, but that isn't the hotels fault. It's just inconsiderate, rude patrons. All in all, it was a fabulous hotel, and I'd […] stay here again in a heartbeat. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Wonderful place in every way !!!"
Utterly charming - great room and great restaurant - overall a super place to stay !Genuine Expedia guest review
Very disappointed. Over rated. Beds not comfortable, hotel is old. While it is themed, feels old. Given price we paid, expected outstanding hotel. Very disappointed. Mark this one, One and Done, Scenery is beautiful however outside on the grounds.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Considering the history of this hotel and their claimed interest in family tradition, it was a real disappointment. The front desk staff could have been played by robots; the room was very ordinary; the only redeeming experience was the wait staff in the restaurant. Next time I will stay somewhere else and visit the restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outdated and overpriced"
Don't spend the money to stay in a 'suite'. We were put in one that looked like a regular room (in fact, some of the regular rooms looked nicer!) The front desk would not do anything for us. This hotel badly needs a remodel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We loved the unique experience . We stayed in the "elegance" room ,and loved the size of the place and also the elegant tackiness .Fun Fun Fun!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quirky but luxurious"
The Madonna lives up to all the other reviews I'd read on other travel sites. The rooms are truly unique. Perhaps a bit much for someone who just wants a good night sleep. Bright pink carpet etc. however, the grounds are gorgeous and the pool was fabulous. Great location close to everything in the central coast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You gotta stay here at least once...."
This is my second stay at the Madonna inn. I live the rooms. The beds are comfy and the rooms are clean. If you truly understand what the Madonna inn is about you'll love it. If you ultra modern rooms...this is not the place for you.Genuine Expedia guest review

Great experience with the one exception - our room was right above the laundry, which is very noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"tired and out of date"
this was probably a really cute motel in the 70's. it is in dire need of a refurbishment. the carpet is soiled and dingy. the bedding is worn and the furniture badly scratched and stained. if it had cost $80 a night it wouldn't be so bad but at $250 it is unacceptable. i would not recommend this motel nor would i stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very cool, unique & fun hotel but room was lacking"
The Madonna Inn is iconic in San Luis Obispo and the hotel is fun with unique rooms, an amazing restaurant (the cake... there are no words, so good!), and the location & views are worth the extra money. I was disappointed though with our room not being cleaned properly and smelling like vomit. I pointed it out to the staff, they "oxidized" while we […] were out but that did not fix the problem. No follow up from the staff to see if we were happy and upon check out when it was brough up again, they did not seem to care. Disappointing service from an otherwise amazing place.
