"Fix the AC"
Hotel entrance and lobby was very nice.. personal very courteous. Room was clean. The AC was extremely noisy. Waking my wife and I multiple times per night. Bed was a bit soft.. requires more pillows for that size bed. Overall it was a pleasant experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"An Incredibly Lovely Stay"
Just stayed for the weekend for our tenth anniversary - it was truly a lovely experience. The staff is so attentive, and the little touches made it truly extraordinary. From cookies at our bedside each night, the hot water bottle in our bed, the luxurious robes, the water bottles in the car when we picked it up - everything just told us we were well […] taken care of. The staff is so attentive, we were treated as if we were staying with friends. The hotel is clean, right in the middle of town, gorgeous views - I would definitely stay here again. Loved everything! This is my favorite hotel in Newport. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. They seem to recreate the feel of mansions in the gilded age which Newport is known for. Great dining at the hotel but also easy walks to restaurants all around town. Not my first stay and won't be my last...Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Best of the Best!"
We have been celebrating Thanksgiving at various locations with our two daughters since they were 4 and 6. We are still following this tradition some 40 years later except they now have families and we have continued this tradition. Of all the locations that we have stayed at over the years, the Vanderbilt Grace was the best of the best. We look forward […] to returning to this hotel not just for Thanksgiving but for our vacation during the summer. It is GREAT! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice getaway"
Wife and I went here for a night to escape our 5 year old and celebrate our 10th anniversary. Hotel was very nice and is very short walking distance to shops and waterfront. Staff was super accommodating! Only gripe was our room was too warm for us and we couldn't get the thermostat to work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My wife and I spent two nights here on our honeymoon - a truly romantic and special experience! The staff was so kind and thoughtful - even putting water bottles in the cup holders of our car when we picked it up from the valet! We also recommend the massages offered at the spa!Genuine Expedia guest review
Amazing Hotel, Awesome Staff!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
High end European hotels, particularly those in Greece, pride themselves on their high quality customer service. This small hotel chain (Grace), with 2 hotels in Greece, clearly prides themselves on following the principle that the customer comes first. It has been rare to experience this type of service in the US. From a pre-visit call asking about […] dinner reservations, to champagne as we checked in, to a wonderful European-style breakfast in the morning, and to the staff who were willing to help at any turn, I strongly recommend this hotel for any sort of retreat from the real world into the "graceful" relaxation provided by a stay here. "This place is the bomb!"
May be my favorite place to stay ever. They heard me say it was husband's birthday and sent up a bottle of wine to our room. The rooms are fab - clean, serene, comfortable, nice amenities included - the little things, like fresh apples, bottled water, glass of champagne on arrival and at breakfast - all complimentary. The roof deck has a beautiful view […] of the shops and restaurants of Newport and the water and bridge. We didn't spend much time there this time (since it was November), but this would be a huge plus in the warmer months. There is a bar up there and adirondack chairs facing 180 degrees. We are hoping to make bi-annual trips to the Vanderbilt Grace. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel, but leaves much to be desired"
Vanderbilt Grace is an architecturally lovely hotel in a perfect location. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Comfortable bed and amenities such as a pillow menu and aromatherapy make for a feeling of luxury. However, there were several disappointments. The rug in our room was stained, and the extra blanket was pilled and contained many long […] hairs from prior guests. Our junior suite was rated for 3 guests, however, this required use of the single most uncomfortable pullout I've ever tried. I would not have minded so much had there not been a significant upcharge for a 3rd guest in the room. Television in the bedroom was unwatchable due to horrible reception. Room service was prompt, but the heavily salted food was left mostly untouched by our family of three. I expected much more from a hotel charging these rates. Four stars based upon the hotel alone; 3 stars when one factors in the rates. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Overall service was strong. The rest of the hotel didn't deserve such high points specially relative to price. Pool was hardly a pool and the gym was so-so. Room didn't have separate beds and dormers were inconveniently low.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely but too small of a room for luxury hotel"
we had a great time and would go back but next time will tell them we want a bigger room-at first it was ok but then we kept running into each other and it became frustrating and too late to bother asking for a different roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I have been to Newport every summer and decided to try a new hotel." Good choice" The feel of the hotel was welcoming and comfortable. Staff was friendly and accomadating. The room was beautiful, and clean. Breakfast was wonderful in the courtyard, with fresh fruit, great coffee and pastries. The Garden that surrounded the "breakfast […] area" provided a relaxing setting. The rooftop deck , gorgeous!!! A MUST SEE. I stayed for two nights. I came in exhausted and left refreshed. The staff went above and beyond to make the stay enoyable. The level of detail was unparalleled. I didn't know what to expect of the Vanderbilt Grace, but I was overly impressed with the entire hotel. I must admit that I tried to stay at a different hotel, which had no vacancy and took a chance considering the reviews. The hotel was a perfect compliment to my Newport trip. It was a smaller boutique hotel, small enough that you felt individual attention, […] yet large enough that you had your own personal space and comfort. I loved the staff who always were accommodating, had great recommendations, and the manager who personally introduced herself upon our arrival (nice touch). I will return to this hotel any and every time I am in Newport! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

It exceeded our expectations; while not an ocean view locale, this hotel is so fine in terms of beauty and service, we were thrilled! "loft suite not so sweet"
We were disappointed in the loft suite we had. There was not much that was sweet about it. The space was put together from a smallish hotel room added to attic space (the loft). The bedroom itself has no windows, only skylight. There is no closet, not even a chair. The downstairs bathroom is a small half bath. I felt that we had paid a lot for a not […] very pleasant space. This hotel has a superb in town location. The rooftop lounge area has a spectacular view at sunset. Enjoyed our breakfasts in the open courtyard as well as after dinner drinks in the main floor bar area. The landscaping and the main floor of the hotel are very attractive. We particularly appreciated the care taken by the front desk and concierge staff. Tres bel hotel, confortable, convial. Deco style anglais. "The Vanderbilt Grace was TOP-NOTCH, with excellent staff, and a great location!"
05/05/15 Mark-IN-AVL-NC Asheville, North Carolina
We loved our stay at the Vanderbilt Grace. It's a fantastic location. You can walk to everything but also easy in and out access if you'd like to drive somewhere. It's tucked in enough to seclude you from the hustle and bustle of the wharf restaurants and shops but close enough to walk there in 2-3 minutes. The warm, helpful, and professional staff pointed us towards several raw bars with some true local feel and put us on to some phenomenal happy hour specials as well. An elegant place with a nice touch of local history within its walls. We'll have to return for the rooftop bar and the outdoor pool! Both looked to be amazing on their own right... The rooftop bar should afford a perfect "eagle's eye" view of the area.
"Dinner and visit"

Popped in to The Vanderbilt Grace for dinner and to enjoy the warm welcoming atmosphere. My wife, son and I had dinner at The Conservatory. We have stayed at the hotel before and enjoyed dinner there last year. The menu was a bit different this year and the food was even better. The Vanderbilt Grace is such a welcoming high end established nestled within the historic section of town.

Just returned from a wonderful experience in Newport, it was a reunion with my daughters and long time friend. We stayed at the Vanderbilt Grace for only one night but in that 24 hours we were treated like royalty. I loved researching the history is this grand old mansion, the home is lovely with several contemporary artists works on display. Located in the heart of downtown Newport you can leave your car and walk everywhere. Parking is a nightmare in Newport so this is a true asset. We took advantage of the "spa" and both had a massage. Located in the lower level of the property where the inside pool is, the area was clean and adequate. Several Maxfield Parrish were on display as well...love his work! They have about 4 single rooms and one double with a fireplace warming the room, very nice touch! The atrium where breakfast and lunch are served is very quaint. The grounds, although not in bloom yet, I'm sure in a month or so will be quite lovely. Just outside the atrium is a small outside pool and sitting area...have to come back and visit again in the summer. Suite 415 is just beautiful! Great views of the harbor, large enough for 4 only disadvantage if you have your children is that they have to walk through the master bedroom for the lav. But very comfortable with beautiful furnishings.

Stayed here for 2 nights in early April. Cove suite was perfect - large, well appointed, comfortable and spotless. The building itself is fascinating, although common areas felt slightly tired. Staff generally helpful but at times the place felt oddly over-staffed. Very good hotel otherwise
"Helpful staff. Not crazy about the location."
04/12/15 kittrider Kennebunkport, Maine
My first experience with The Vanderbilt Grace's helpful staff came when a certain online map/directions site that shall remain nameless gave me crappy directions and I ended up hopelessly lost. Heather & Kevin stayed on the phone with me and expertly guided me through the labyrinth of narrow alleys Newport calls one-way streets. Kevin greeted me at the gate, graciously carrying my 200 pound suitcase while reassuring me that no, I'm not a moron who can't follow basic directions - lots of people get confused and have trouble locating the property. I don't know if that's true, but who cares?! I'll take it. I was assigned room #208, on the hotel's second floor next to the elevator. The room was clean and decently appointed, but quite small. It wasn't a problem since I was flying solo this trip, but if I had hubs with me we'd be crashing into each other at every turn. The room is roughly shaped like a bowling pin: at the top of the pin is the bathroom (a very nice bathroom, I might add), then a narrow walkway bordered on one side by the heat/ac unit and on the other by a sink & fridge, widening to accommodate a small writing desk with chair and a queen size bed with nightstand. A small closet is located at the back of the room. A small bunch of green grapes & two mini bottles of water were on the table at my arrival, and two small pieces of cheesecake & two more bottles of water were left on the table after turndown service paid a visit. The bed was quite comfortable and the pillows were soft and fluffy, but I got NO sleep. The nearby church bells bonged every hour on the hour, manna from heaven for a light sleeper. (Keep in mind that there is one bong for every hour, so at midnight you'll get twelve peals...) Harmonizing with this heavenly symphony was the heating unit. Other reviewers have commented on its noisiness, and I agree. I located the thermostat on the wall and turned the heat down, which kept it from kicking on quite as often. That seemed to help. The seagulls are also on hand to serenade you. In the title of this review I say I wasn't crazy about the location. For my purposes, the location was anything but ideal and I guess that's my fault for not being more diligent about researching Newport geography (and I admit to being swayed by the #1 TA ranking). Vanderbilt heir + summer cottage + Newport = ocean front property, right?? No. This hotel is located on a cramped, nondescript side street (alley?) with no real views to speak of. If you're coming to Newport to walk the shops and restaurants, then this is the place for you as downtown is just steps away. If your intent is to park yourself on the balcony with a book and a lap blanket and while away the day admiring the open ocean (as mine was), this isn't the place for you. My room looked out on the patio and the parking lot. My $300 per night room did not include breakfast. This unfortunate omission meant that I was forced to seek sustenance elsewhere. I ended up at Ma's Donuts, so it wasn't a total loss. Other reviewers have complained that the service is not the spit-and-polish, white-glove level you'd expect to see at a luxury hotel, that the staff are nothing more than a bunch of bored college kids collecting a paycheck. I couldn't disagree more. The staff were the best part of my stay, and I'll take friendly and personable over snooty and pretentious any day - I don't care how much I'm paying for the privilege of their hospitality. Kevin and Heather were my main contacts while I was there, but other staffers were just as nice and helpful. I probably won't stay here again, but I'm not sorry I spent the money. It was definitely an experience!

What a wonderful experience. We stayed in the only suite on the first floor, room 103. The staff is super nice and Helpful. The suite was great, very unique and charming. "Elegant Boutique Hotel"

Nestled in Newport, RI is an elegant, charming boutique hotel known as a The Vanderbilt Grace. The rooms are not hotel clones. We stayed in a unique room with an upstairs bedroom that was over-looking the living area. The service and restaurant were great. The staff was helpful, cheery, and those from faraway lands shared how much fun it is to be working in America. It made the world feel smaller and we feel good.

I recently stayed at the Vanderbilt Grace, with My Best Friend and her 5 children. It was a weekend to celebrate my Birthday. We had a great experience, I worked with Danielle Theresa to book my rooms, the whole entire staff was great and very accommodating. When I arrived to the Hotel I was greeted by a gentlemen I believe his name was John and Heather. They offered me a sparkling water, I thought that was a NICE little touch! Heather was great she served me the water and she was just FABULOUS throughout the whole night! As I arrived to the suites, they were absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I loved the rooms they were clean, and spacious I wanted to move in and never leave. My Friend and her children were all excited and loved their room as well. There was a not from Danielle Theresa welcoming me to their hotel with a bottle of wine for my birthday, I would like to thank Danielle, Heather, and the wonderful staff for a GREAT 29th BIRTHDAY, I can't wait for my next stay

We stayed at The Vanderbilt Grace over President's Day Weekend based on TripAdvisor ratings and weren't disappointed. The service was amazing and the number of people working there seemed endless. We're a family of 4 and stayed in Suite 103. The amount of space was great with 2 big bedrooms (each had it's own closet, bathroom and TV) and a large living room/kitchen area. The location is ideal with Thames and all of its shops and restaurants a block away. Although the hotel was full for the long weekend, the valet cleared snow off our car and brought it around every time with only a couple of minutes notice and Jocelyn and Heather at the front desk always greeted us by name. A great hotel in a great town...

We decided to beat the NYC madness for one night and took off for Newport. We came across Vanderbilt Grace after a little research. We pulled up and were immediately greeted by a very nice bellman and front desk agent that treated us to glasses of champagne. As soon as we walked in, we new we were in a magical setting. A well lit patio fit for dining and relaxing. A large fireplace equipped with games for wintry nights, and a beautifully decorated room with a pool table. It was just what we had hoped for! We were escorted to our room and the bellman was very knowledgeable about the restaurants, shops, etc. As soon as we walked into our room we were very pleased to say the least. The bedding was amazing, wonderful amenities provided, and beautiful skylights over our bed which opened so we were able to enjoy the bells from the Cathedral in the morning. Everyone was so helpful from making our dinner reservation to greeting us at every opportunity. It was so warm and friendly. We cannot wait to return!
