"The Best of the Best!"
We have been celebrating Thanksgiving at various locations with our two daughters since they were 4 and 6. We are still following this tradition some 40 years later except they now have families and we have continued this tradition. Of all the locations that we have stayed at over the years, the Vanderbilt Grace was the best of the best. We look forward […] to returning to this hotel not just for Thanksgiving but for our vacation during the summer. It is GREAT! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice getaway"
Wife and I went here for a night to escape our 5 year old and celebrate our 10th anniversary. Hotel was very nice and is very short walking distance to shops and waterfront. Staff was super accommodating! Only gripe was our room was too warm for us and we couldn't get the thermostat to work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Amazing Hotel, Awesome Staff!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
High end European hotels, particularly those in Greece, pride themselves on their high quality customer service. This small hotel chain (Grace), with 2 hotels in Greece, clearly prides themselves on following the principle that the customer comes first. It has been rare to experience this type of service in the US. From a pre-visit call asking about […] dinner reservations, to champagne as we checked in, to a wonderful European-style breakfast in the morning, and to the staff who were willing to help at any turn, I strongly recommend this hotel for any sort of retreat from the real world into the "graceful" relaxation provided by a stay here. "Beautiful hotel in the center of town….."
Gorgeous historical hotel on a lovely street in the center of Newport. and very sweet, helpful and knowledgable young staff. Loved the incredible home-made chocolates and peanut brittle they brought to your room for 'turn-down'.Genuine Expedia guest review
"This place is the bomb!"
May be my favorite place to stay ever. They heard me say it was husband's birthday and sent up a bottle of wine to our room. The rooms are fab - clean, serene, comfortable, nice amenities included - the little things, like fresh apples, bottled water, glass of champagne on arrival and at breakfast - all complimentary. The roof deck has a beautiful view […] of the shops and restaurants of Newport and the water and bridge. We didn't spend much time there this time (since it was November), but this would be a huge plus in the warmer months. There is a bar up there and adirondack chairs facing 180 degrees. We are hoping to make bi-annual trips to the Vanderbilt Grace. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel, but leaves much to be desired"
Vanderbilt Grace is an architecturally lovely hotel in a perfect location. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Comfortable bed and amenities such as a pillow menu and aromatherapy make for a feeling of luxury. However, there were several disappointments. The rug in our room was stained, and the extra blanket was pilled and contained many long […] hairs from prior guests. Our junior suite was rated for 3 guests, however, this required use of the single most uncomfortable pullout I've ever tried. I would not have minded so much had there not been a significant upcharge for a 3rd guest in the room. Television in the bedroom was unwatchable due to horrible reception. Room service was prompt, but the heavily salted food was left mostly untouched by our family of three. I expected much more from a hotel charging these rates. Four stars based upon the hotel alone; 3 stars when one factors in the rates. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Overall service was strong. The rest of the hotel didn't deserve such high points specially relative to price. Pool was hardly a pool and the gym was so-so. Room didn't have separate beds and dormers were inconveniently low.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely but too small of a room for luxury hotel"
we had a great time and would go back but next time will tell them we want a bigger room-at first it was ok but then we kept running into each other and it became frustrating and too late to bother asking for a different roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I have been to Newport every summer and decided to try a new hotel." Good choice" The feel of the hotel was welcoming and comfortable. Staff was friendly and accomadating. The room was beautiful, and clean. Breakfast was wonderful in the courtyard, with fresh fruit, great coffee and pastries. The Garden that surrounded the "breakfast […] area" provided a relaxing setting. The rooftop deck , gorgeous!!! A MUST SEE. "nice hotel with a personal touch"
I stayed for two nights. I came in exhausted and left refreshed. The staff went above and beyond to make the stay enoyable. The level of detail was unparalleled. The staff was informative and courteous. It was a very busy holiday weekend yet the hotel did not feel overcrowded or busy. The room was lovely. I highly recommend this hotel and will consider […] another grace property for future travels. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I didn't know what to expect of the Vanderbilt Grace, but I was overly impressed with the entire hotel. I must admit that I tried to stay at a different hotel, which had no vacancy and took a chance considering the reviews. The hotel was a perfect compliment to my Newport trip. It was a smaller boutique hotel, small enough that you felt individual attention, […] yet large enough that you had your own personal space and comfort. I loved the staff who always were accommodating, had great recommendations, and the manager who personally introduced herself upon our arrival (nice touch). I will return to this hotel any and every time I am in Newport! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Luxury for today with a respect for yesterday"
It exceeded our expectations; while not an ocean view locale, this hotel is so fine in terms of beauty and service, we were thrilled! A bonus is being able to walk all around town right out of the front entry. The comfort, cleanliness and quality of everything is first rate. The food... divine!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"loft suite not so sweet"
We were disappointed in the loft suite we had. There was not much that was sweet about it. The space was put together from a smallish hotel room added to attic space (the loft). The bedroom itself has no windows, only skylight. There is no closet, not even a chair. The downstairs bathroom is a small half bath. I felt that we had paid a lot for a not […] very pleasant space. Had I known what the space is like, I would never have booked it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Felt right at home at the Vanderbilt Grace."
This hotel has a superb in town location. The rooftop lounge area has a spectacular view at sunset. Enjoyed our breakfasts in the open courtyard as well as after dinner drinks in the main floor bar area. The landscaping and the main floor of the hotel are very attractive. We particularly appreciated the care taken by the front desk and concierge staff. […] Both Joseph and Rachel made our stay wonderful by situating us in our rooms, securing dinner reservations and directing us around town. Would definitely return to the Vanderbilt Grace. "Ein schönhes Hotel im Seglerparadies Newport"
Das Hotel hat uns gut gefallen (vor allem die Lage und das Frühstück auf der Terrasse), allerdings war der Service manchmal schon arg holperig. Er fiel gegenüber anderen Hotels in dieser Preisklasse stark ab. Das Bad unserer Junior-Suite war ziemlich klein und schlicht.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Tres bel hotel."
Tres bel hotel, confortable, convial. Deco style anglais. Parking payant. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"One of the most enjoyable hotel stays I have ever experienced!"

One of the finest hotels in which I have stayed. We had a beautiful suite which was impeccably serviced by our wonderful housekeeper. Turndown service included amazing brownie cookies! The staff was unfailingly kind and attentive, providing us every possible service. My daughter and I were spoiled rotten! I highly recommend the Vanderbilt Grace and cannot wait to return. Thank you all for a fabulous mother-daughter weekend!!

We visited Newport to see the mansions decorated for the holidays and enjoy some fresh seafood. Our stay at the Vanderbilt Grace added to our memorable trip. From arrival to departure we enjoyed the warmth of a gracious and professional staff. We look forward to visiting again in the summer.
"Wonderful boutique hotel"

My wife and I stayed at the Vanderbilt at the end of October. On arriving at the hotel the creating was very professional, but friendly. We were offered a drink and a very informative introduction to Newport. We were in what I believe is one of their state rooms. The room was very clean and in excellent decorative order. The ensuite bathroom ditto. The bed was extremely comfortable. My only minor comment on the room was that there was to a great deal of drawer space. We ate in the hotel one night, and enjoyed it. As it was the end of October the hotel was quiet, as was Newport. However, as the weather was warm and sunny, for that time of year, we felt that we had the best of both worlds, no crowds and a very pleasant few days in a very pleasant town.
"Beauty and grace among the rich and famous"
11/26/14 circe64 Boston, Massachusetts
As soon as you enter this magnificent hotel you know you are in for a treat. The staircase is gorgeous, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the amenities are plentiful. The building itself has been renovated, but many of the original features have been preserved. We opted for a large Junior suite. This was a corner room with soaring ceilings, separate sitting area, refrigerator, microwave, Keurig, huge windows, and a king bed. The bath had double sinks, and a fabulous rain shower. Homemade cookies are delivered to the room with nightly turn down service. The common areas are spacious. Drinks can be delivered just about anywhere in the hotel. There is a rooftop deck which was still open in November, indoor and outdoor pool, conservatory for breakfast and lunch, and a lovely garden area. All of this is very conveniently situated just a few blocks from the mansions on Bellevue Avenue, and the restaurants on Thames Street. Do not miss the opportunity to dine at Muse while staying at Vanderbilt Grace. It is a wonderful experience.
"Everything and More!"

I took advantage of Newport Restaurant Week to enjoy a wonderful lunch at The Vanderbilt Grace and was literally overwhelmed by the phenomenal service I received! WOW! is an understatement! As a current resident of Newport, I've been "under"whelmed by the lack of customer service and attention to detail in most topnotch establishments in this wonderful city. This was definitely NOT the case at The Vanderbilt Grace! Our server, Ariel was simply THE BEST! From making direct eye contact with us EVERY time she came to the table, to going out of her way to serve us hot tea at the fireplace, she was ON TOP OF IT and I just couldn't ask for more! Thank you for a most memorable experience! I will definitely be back!

Just returned from a weekend getaway at the Vanderbilt Grace and cannot wait to go back. It was our first trip to Newport and we found it to be such a quaint city with much to do and delicious food. The Vanderbilt Grace was a highlight. It is centrally located and a few steps into town. The service was impeccable, from the porters, to the concierge, and wait staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, and we were always greeted with a smile. We had 2 spa treatments which were wonderful. We ate a delicious breakfast in the conservatory and ordered late night snacks from room service. I can only imagine the food at Muse to be impeccable. The attention to details was very appreciated, from the cookies on our nightstand at turn down service, to the bottles of water left in our car for the trip home. Can't wait to try more Grace Hotels!
"Perfect Newport Weekend getaway!"

Our stay at the Vanderbilt Grace was magical and exceeded our expectations. The staff was amazing and the customer service and comfort was over the top. Our 2 children ages 8 & 10 were equally as thrilled and treated as young gentlemen by the exceptional staff. Our 2 story room was comfortable and quite contemporary for this older yet renovated building. The hotel has a roof top bar and the view is stunning-especially on a clear night! It is located within walking distance to town and great restaurants, and the concierge will happily make excellent recommendations or reservations for you. The staff is always available to cater to your every need and each one had their own particular charming personality and an uncanny ability to make things extra special on every level. We enjoyed a lovely tea service on the day we were leaving and the valet stocked our car with bottles water in every cup holder for our journey home......we'll be back!!
"Beautiful Hotel - restful stay..."

My sister and law and I stayed here for the Newport Marathon in October. This hotel was in a great location. We received champagne upon arrival and the staff was so eager to help with anything. They were very excited to help us with any questions or help with directions, excited to hear how the race went. Genuine - eager to please staff, beautiful, historic building.
"Everything to be very good, but just not quite there"
11/04/14 fearanti Boston, Massachusetts
Newport is a wonderful seaside town in Rhode Island and it's just 90 mins from Boston so we went there for a weekend away from the kids. The hotel property is a lovely old mansion (or at least looks like one) in the center of Newport. The room was pretty expensive (> $600) so our expectations were high. We booked through Expedia and we were shown to a room on the 3rd floor, room 305. It's a relatively small duplex, so wasn't sure we did so well. When we arrived the air con was on so it wasn't possible to hear ambient sounds, like the humming from some plant on the roof that we could hear when we turned a/c off and went to bed. I went down at 4am-ish and found the reception desk unattended, with no obvious way to summon help. I eventually used the reception desk phone to call reception which diverted to someone. The feedback I got was "never heard such a complaint before" so he came up and wanted to hear the noise for himself. I am really not sure why he thought I would come down at 4am if there wasn't a noise and also as there was an alternative room available I am not sure why he didn't simply offer to switch us. So he came up and stood beside the bed (my wife was still in it!), insisted he couldnt hear what we could hear but then he moved us to a room on the 2nd floor where there was no such noise. We didn't mention it further, but I was surprised that none of the hotel staff mentioned it either. So on check-out I mentioned that I thought it should at least have been acknowledged. After that I got a call from the manager offering us free things, which we didn't actually want or accept. Our only expectation was that when someone books an expensive room and when you offer your property as luxury then you should deliver on it. That aside we had a couple of lovely breakfasts on the terrace (service was a little rough there, not in terms of politeness but in terms of disorganisation). Anyhow, I would stay again but not in the rooms on the third floor and I would wait 'til there's a deal of some kind to bring the price into line with the general product proposition of the hotel.
"The Amazing Vanderbilt Grace Hotel"

Our only regret about staying at this hotel was that we could only stay one night as it is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. The rooms are amazing, the restaurant was fabulous, and the location is perfect but the best thing about the hotel is the wonderful staff. They did everything possible to make us comfortable, including on insisting on getting us coffee to go on the morning we left.
