"The Best of the Best!"
We have been celebrating Thanksgiving at various locations with our two daughters since they were 4 and 6. We are still following this tradition some 40 years later except they now have families and we have continued this tradition. Of all the locations that we have stayed at over the years, the Vanderbilt Grace was the best of the best. We look forward […] to returning to this hotel not just for Thanksgiving but for our vacation during the summer. It is GREAT! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice getaway"
Wife and I went here for a night to escape our 5 year old and celebrate our 10th anniversary. Hotel was very nice and is very short walking distance to shops and waterfront. Staff was super accommodating! Only gripe was our room was too warm for us and we couldn't get the thermostat to work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My wife and I spent two nights here on our honeymoon - a truly romantic and special experience! The staff was so kind and thoughtful - even putting water bottles in the cup holders of our car when we picked it up from the valet! We also recommend the massages offered at the spa!Genuine Expedia guest review
Amazing Hotel, Awesome Staff!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
High end European hotels, particularly those in Greece, pride themselves on their high quality customer service. This small hotel chain (Grace), with 2 hotels in Greece, clearly prides themselves on following the principle that the customer comes first. It has been rare to experience this type of service in the US. From a pre-visit call asking about […] dinner reservations, to champagne as we checked in, to a wonderful European-style breakfast in the morning, and to the staff who were willing to help at any turn, I strongly recommend this hotel for any sort of retreat from the real world into the "graceful" relaxation provided by a stay here. Gorgeous historical hotel on a lovely street in the center of Newport. and very sweet, helpful and knowledgable young staff. Loved the incredible home-made chocolates and peanut brittle they brought to your room for 'turn-down'.Genuine Expedia guest review
"This place is the bomb!"
May be my favorite place to stay ever. They heard me say it was husband's birthday and sent up a bottle of wine to our room. The rooms are fab - clean, serene, comfortable, nice amenities included - the little things, like fresh apples, bottled water, glass of champagne on arrival and at breakfast - all complimentary. The roof deck has a beautiful view […] of the shops and restaurants of Newport and the water and bridge. We didn't spend much time there this time (since it was November), but this would be a huge plus in the warmer months. There is a bar up there and adirondack chairs facing 180 degrees. We are hoping to make bi-annual trips to the Vanderbilt Grace. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel, but leaves much to be desired"
Vanderbilt Grace is an architecturally lovely hotel in a perfect location. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Comfortable bed and amenities such as a pillow menu and aromatherapy make for a feeling of luxury. However, there were several disappointments. The rug in our room was stained, and the extra blanket was pilled and contained many long […] hairs from prior guests. Our junior suite was rated for 3 guests, however, this required use of the single most uncomfortable pullout I've ever tried. I would not have minded so much had there not been a significant upcharge for a 3rd guest in the room. Television in the bedroom was unwatchable due to horrible reception. Room service was prompt, but the heavily salted food was left mostly untouched by our family of three. I expected much more from a hotel charging these rates. Four stars based upon the hotel alone; 3 stars when one factors in the rates. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Overall service was strong. The rest of the hotel didn't deserve such high points specially relative to price. Pool was hardly a pool and the gym was so-so. Room didn't have separate beds and dormers were inconveniently low.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely but too small of a room for luxury hotel"
we had a great time and would go back but next time will tell them we want a bigger room-at first it was ok but then we kept running into each other and it became frustrating and too late to bother asking for a different roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I have been to Newport every summer and decided to try a new hotel." Good choice" The feel of the hotel was welcoming and comfortable. Staff was friendly and accomadating. The room was beautiful, and clean. Breakfast was wonderful in the courtyard, with fresh fruit, great coffee and pastries. The Garden that surrounded the "breakfast […] area" provided a relaxing setting. The rooftop deck , gorgeous!!! A MUST SEE. "nice hotel with a personal touch"
I stayed for two nights. I came in exhausted and left refreshed. The staff went above and beyond to make the stay enoyable. The level of detail was unparalleled. The staff was informative and courteous. It was a very busy holiday weekend yet the hotel did not feel overcrowded or busy. The room was lovely. I highly recommend this hotel and will consider […] another grace property for future travels. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I didn't know what to expect of the Vanderbilt Grace, but I was overly impressed with the entire hotel. I must admit that I tried to stay at a different hotel, which had no vacancy and took a chance considering the reviews. The hotel was a perfect compliment to my Newport trip. It was a smaller boutique hotel, small enough that you felt individual attention, […] yet large enough that you had your own personal space and comfort. I loved the staff who always were accommodating, had great recommendations, and the manager who personally introduced herself upon our arrival (nice touch). I will return to this hotel any and every time I am in Newport! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Luxury for today with a respect for yesterday"
It exceeded our expectations; while not an ocean view locale, this hotel is so fine in terms of beauty and service, we were thrilled! A bonus is being able to walk all around town right out of the front entry. The comfort, cleanliness and quality of everything is first rate. The food... divine!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"loft suite not so sweet"
We were disappointed in the loft suite we had. There was not much that was sweet about it. The space was put together from a smallish hotel room added to attic space (the loft). The bedroom itself has no windows, only skylight. There is no closet, not even a chair. The downstairs bathroom is a small half bath. I felt that we had paid a lot for a not […] very pleasant space. Had I known what the space is like, I would never have booked it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Felt right at home at the Vanderbilt Grace."
This hotel has a superb in town location. The rooftop lounge area has a spectacular view at sunset. Enjoyed our breakfasts in the open courtyard as well as after dinner drinks in the main floor bar area. The landscaping and the main floor of the hotel are very attractive. We particularly appreciated the care taken by the front desk and concierge staff. […] Both Joseph and Rachel made our stay wonderful by situating us in our rooms, securing dinner reservations and directing us around town. Would definitely return to the Vanderbilt Grace. "Ein schönhes Hotel im Seglerparadies Newport"
Das Hotel hat uns gut gefallen (vor allem die Lage und das Frühstück auf der Terrasse), allerdings war der Service manchmal schon arg holperig. Er fiel gegenüber anderen Hotels in dieser Preisklasse stark ab. Das Bad unserer Junior-Suite war ziemlich klein und schlicht.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Tres bel hotel."
Tres bel hotel, confortable, convial. Deco style anglais. I recently stayed at the Vanderbilt Grace, with My Best Friend and her 5 children. It was a weekend to celebrate my Birthday. We had a great experience, I worked with Danielle Theresa to book my rooms, the whole entire staff was great and very accommodating. When I arrived to the Hotel I was greeted by a gentlemen I believe his name was John and Heather. They offered me a sparkling water, I thought that was a NICE little touch! Heather was great she served me the water and she was just FABULOUS throughout the whole night! As I arrived to the suites, they were absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I loved the rooms they were clean, and spacious I wanted to move in and never leave. My Friend and her children were all excited and loved their room as well. There was a not from Danielle Theresa welcoming me to their hotel with a bottle of wine for my birthday, I would like to thank Danielle, Heather, and the wonderful staff for a GREAT 29th BIRTHDAY, I can't wait for my next stay

We stayed at The Vanderbilt Grace over President's Day Weekend based on TripAdvisor ratings and weren't disappointed. The service was amazing and the number of people working there seemed endless. We're a family of 4 and stayed in Suite 103. The amount of space was great with 2 big bedrooms (each had it's own closet, bathroom and TV) and a large living room/kitchen area. The location is ideal with Thames and all of its shops and restaurants a block away. Although the hotel was full for the long weekend, the valet cleared snow off our car and brought it around every time with only a couple of minutes notice and Jocelyn and Heather at the front desk always greeted us by name. A great hotel in a great town...

We decided to beat the NYC madness for one night and took off for Newport. We came across Vanderbilt Grace after a little research. We pulled up and were immediately greeted by a very nice bellman and front desk agent that treated us to glasses of champagne. As soon as we walked in, we new we were in a magical setting. A well lit patio fit for dining and relaxing. A large fireplace equipped with games for wintry nights, and a beautifully decorated room with a pool table. It was just what we had hoped for! We were escorted to our room and the bellman was very knowledgeable about the restaurants, shops, etc. As soon as we walked into our room we were very pleased to say the least. The bedding was amazing, wonderful amenities provided, and beautiful skylights over our bed which opened so we were able to enjoy the bells from the Cathedral in the morning. Everyone was so helpful from making our dinner reservation to greeting us at every opportunity. It was so warm and friendly. We cannot wait to return!
"Wonderful January Trip"
01/25/15 PatrickCT C Wallingford, Connecticut
My fiancee and I stayed at the Vanderbilt Grace during our visit to Newport in the beginning of January. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted with excellent customer service by Konstantinos. Before we sat down to check in, another employee took our bags to our room, and we were each offered a glass of champagne. Konstantinos answered all of our questions and recommended a few places to visit, which was extremely helpful considering how quiet the town is during the winter months. After checking in, we were walked to our room by the same employee who took our bags. To our surprise, we were graciously upgraded to a master suite on the second floor! Although any room in the Vanderbilt Grace is probably beautiful, the rooms on the second floor that are part of the original mansion are stunning. The ceilings are very high, the bed was extremely comfortable, there are two bathrooms, and the general living space is very well decorated and furnished. Most importantly, everything was spotlessly clean and the amenities were well chosen and comforting. Also, the location of the hotel is perfect. While it is not on Thames Street, it is right off of it and is in a quiet area. Thus, you get the best of both worlds, being close enough to where everything is, but far enough to feel secluded from the busyness of the day. Breakfast is offered in The Conservatory for a fee, but we did not eat there. Instead, we walked to Starbucks each morning, which, when leaving from the back of the hotel, is no more than one minute away. A plethora of lunch and dinner places on Thames and Broadway are also within walking distance. Because of its reviews, we also made sure to make reservations at MUSE by Jonathan Cartwright. Emulating the customer service that we received during check in on the first day, Alex, the head waiter, greeted us by first name from the moment that we arrived to the moment that we left. First, when we arrived, we were given the choice of where we would like to sit. Once seated, we were offered the dinner menu as well as the wine list. Alex was very knowledgeable about each plate and wine that we asked about. From the gin poached shrimp to the stuffed french toast souffle, everything was delicious. When we returned each evening, we were welcomed by a turn downed room and a note from staff that describes the weather for the next day and a list of events happening in town. The Vanderbilt Grace is a wonderful establishment that played a large role in making our stay in Newport relaxing, fun, and comfortable. Though it looks a bit pricey during the peak season, it is well worth it. We look forward to staying at other Grace hotels and hope to return to the Vanderbilt sometime in the future.

Spent a wonderful weekend celebrating our anniversary. The room, staff and ambiance were excellent! The hotel is located right in the middle of town which allowed us the flexibility to walk to most spots. We did use our car to visit some of the mansions but feel that if we were here in warmer months, we could have easily walked to most. Looking forward to returning to this lovely town again and spending another visit at The Vanderbilt Grace!!
"Great Long Weekend Stay"

My wife and I stayed in October while it was still fairly warm out, and we couldn't have had a better time. The hotel is in walking distance of most of the great restaurants and mansions in Newport. The staff was extremely accommodating, and the hotel itself is very peaceful. The spa was top notch, and the restaurant in the hotel was fantastic. Can't wait to go back!
"Great stay! TA reviewers pulled through once again!"

My wife and I stayed here for a few nights between Christmas and New Years. I booked this hotel after researching hotels in the area on TA. Where to start? Check in was a breeze, hotel staff was absolutely great. They upgraded us to the captains loft suite, it was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The location was incredible. A very short walk to Thames street and you're in the heart of it all. We look forward to our next visit hopefully in the near future. Special thanks to some standout staff members: Heather, Joe and Pete always helpful and smiling. I def recommend this hotel when staying in Newport.
"Really superb hotel"
01/11/15 Mike594 New York City, New York
It's not often that you walk into your hotel room and are surprised at how lovely it is. The suites at the Vanderbilt Grace certainly do that. We had a ton of space and great facilities, from the Kuerig coffee maker to the comfy bed (shame that there was no bath - surprising for a room of that size). You can wander round at your leisure and even have a game of pool. It must be great in the summer with the outside swimming pool. All in all, a great place to relax and enjoy the sights of Newport. PS And when the valet brought the car round for us to leave, we found two small bottles of water - lovely touch that says a lot about their attention to service and quality.

Amazing hotel in beautiful Newport Rhode Island. Gorgeous rooms. Amazing service. Right in the middle of Newport. Many original features in the hotel from the Vanderbilt days. Got upgraded to junior suite. Big rooms. Very comfortable. Wonderful weekend. Would most definitely come back.
"Perfect stay over winter!"
01/02/15 felipe a New York City, New York
Stayed for one night only and it felt like a real vacation. Hotel is both classic and modern - this was a Vanderbilt house and different from the other historical hotels in the city, rooms have been updated to feel more current. Rooms are very big and comfortable with high ceilings - go for the junior suite (we stayed in room 205 which I highly recommend). Staff is friendly/professional and made us feel very welcome - service is a focus for this team. If you have one day only to spend in Newport: Start out walking around ocean avenue and cliff walk; then check in to the hotel; relax in the indoor heated pool and the dry sauna in the afternoon. Have dinner at the hotel's restaurant; go to bed early and don't forget to try the in room aromatherapy - helps you have a perfect night of sleep; end your stay with breakfast in the greenhouse-like Conservatory restaurant under the sun. Newport is worth visiting even in the winter and you don't have to deal with all the tourists that the city gets in the summer. The Vanderbilt Grace is the perfect home base while in Newport - can't wait to be back and stay longer next time!
