"Go in with realistic expectations"
With this hotel you get what you pay for. If you go in with that expectation you will have a good time. The rooms were nothing special, but you don't go to a place like this to sit in your room. The food was decent and the drinks were great. We snorkeled off the resort beach and saw a number of cool critters; including: an eagle ray, spotted eel, flounder, […] barracuda, spiny lobsters, and sting rays. The locals selling conch shells and marijuana on the beach below the high tide mark were a little annoying, but were usually turned around by a polite "no thank you". We walked along the beach every day. It was quite beautiful and at low tide you could walk to the east and see some cool tidal pools. If you get a chance, a trip to Lucayan national park beach and paradise cove (for snorkeling) will not disappoint. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Loud party hotel"
It's a nice place to go, pay one price and not worry about anything else. I do think its more suited for people who like the night life and partying. They blast loud music until 2 am every night. Alcohol is free flowing so add that to the loud music and party atmosphere, it was pretty out of control. The hotel staff is up pretty early shouting into […] a microphone for upcoming events. Very irritating when the loud party music had you up. During the day it's pretty relaxing and you can find a quiet spot. But it depends on what vacation means to you. They require reservations for two of their restaurants and everyday they were booked? So make the restaurants bigger it extend their hours. The beach is super close and really nice. "Laid back but definitely pampering"
We've done the all-inclusive in Jamaica, Dominican Repulblic, Costa Rica and of course here at Viva Fortuna but it had been years ago. We were concerned with several recent negative reviews and we were traveling with our elderly parents (who didn't want to go far thus made the Bahamas a natural choice). Boy, were we surprised! Not only was the food […] hearty, wholesome and plentiful but a variety that made each and every night something to look forward to. The bartenders without having to tip acted a if they were being rewarded with each and every well made drink. Truly the staff made our visit a very relaxing and rewarding vacation. Couple that with maid service that kept our rooms standing tall with no need to remind about anything and you have a perfect trip. The airlines have a lot to learn from Viva Fortuna. Thanks for a fabulous time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel for families and scuba diving"
All over a nice hotel. The cleaning of the room good be improved. What they are offered in The All Inclusive program was very good, local alcoholic drinks, snacks for kids, sport equipment, and...Scuba diving center located at the hotel ground, perfect for diving. The hotel beach is clean and beautiful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"You get what you are paying for !"
The Hotel offers exactly what you are paying. The rooms are poor and old. Even the nicer Ocean View Rooms. In fact i booked this but got a garden view first. This is much older. After long discussions they changed it. The toilet didnt worked on 3 of 7 days. The firealarm goes on one day. Shampoo you get 2 of 7 days. Towels ? Depends on the willing of […] the room mades. When you are lucky, you get 1 bottle water for 3 in the room at the first day. The stuff in the restaurants is unfriendly, but this seems to be standard in this area. The meals are average, but enought to stay well. The activity program of the Hotel is very great and offers a lot to do, especialy for kids. We had no problems to find a place at the beach (7 people). Thats great too. The location, the beach and the water are nice. In total, as i said, it is what you are paying ! "Great bang for the buck!!!"
Overall I was extremely pleased with the whole experience at Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach. It's not Beaches or Sandals, but for the price it's an excellent alternative for budget wary travellers looking to get away without breaking the bank, yet have the luxury of an all inclusive. Granted the alcohol is far from top shelf, yet like anything else you […] drink enough of it and you'll have a good time. The food in the restaurants that require reservations was actually very good, but book early and often. The food at the buffet was also good, and of course you can always fall back to the hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza for those not so discerning eaters. Otherwise, the staff are friendly, personable, helpful and willing to make your stay enjoyable. There are activities throughout the day and evenings to encourage guest participation, and the staff are good at encouraging guests to do so, yet they're not invasive in how they do it. The really nice thing about this resort, you feel like it's your own private resort, probably 1.5 miles east and west of the property are no other resorts, and the layout allows you as much privacy or solitude as you want. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and have plans to return within the next six months. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not worth the price tag!! 2-3pt scoring out of 5!"
Pool/Beach was the nicest part of this place besides the temp was in 60-70's windy. walking along the beach during the most sunny part of the day were the best. Food Buffet is your best bet with different verities. their Asian's style food scored a 2 from 1-5. (5being best) their Italian style scored a 3.5 their buffet score a 4 cause it has the most […] verity and the goods and bad are pool together. WIFI- SLOW/BAD - always kick you offline. Gaming options/area - a good options but the area of gaming is old which needs major updates. etc pool table/pingpong tables/moldy basketball count . worse part of gaming area are they ALL have time slots!! as if they don't have enough staff operating them so they cut everything down to opening 1.5-2.5 hr at a time. always a long line waiting... Condition and upkeep of the hotel- public area was clean and updated decently. dining area is decent Hotel Rooms (C units) OLD/Dated but clean. same goes for bathroom/shower was lack of water pressure & didn't have hot water for the first (2) days. got it fix right away. going to jamaica was cheaper and hotel is way better upkeep then this Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"relaxing winter getaway"
The hotel was clean, the staff was extremely helpful and so friendly! I splurged for a deep tissue massage & the masseuse put me to sleep! The food in the main dining room was fine- i think breakfast was the best meal of the day. Oh on Christmas eve they had quite a nice spread and they did a wonderful job decorating for the holidays with the lights, […] candles & other festive decorations. The fitness center is rather small and a bit dated- I went running on the beach each morning so that really was a non-issue. The sunrise was breathtaking if you are lucky enough to get an oceanview room! :) Must do- Lucaya National Park- caves, and hiking trails and the beautiful beach. Port Lucaya for shopping and bargaining with the locals for trinket/souvenir stuff- also alot of different ethnic restaurants: Zorbas for Greek food is a winner. Hotel offers a variety of activites for families and kids. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would go back again Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"fun for the entire family"
The staff are all very friendly. The kids had a great time and there was plenty for them to do. The buildings themselves were a little rundown, but we hardly noticed and enjoyed the stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice layout of property, but hotel not very well maintained. Staff nice and helpful enough. Food passable and ample...some good dishes but most so-so. Alcoholic beverages cheapest money can buy. $27 cab ride to casino at Lucaya---each way. $40 to and from airport. do not be late getting to airport for return flight as airline desk absolutely closes […] 1 hour before flight time---no exceptions---and you will have to wait for the next plane. At hotel, wi-fi only in lobby and rec center---and it was slow. No swim-up bar at pool. Some rooms have mini fridges and some don't. Ditto hair dryers. No treadmill in gym. "first trip with girlfriend"
this was the first international trip I had with my girlfriend. At first we were wrongfully assigned a double bed room but after a few hours the staff was able to accomodate us in a king size bed room. There are many activities occuring at the hotel and practically you do not need to leave the premises to have something to do. Take advantange of the […] snorkeling, kayaking, dancing, games and beach walking. If you are brave enough you may try the trapeeze. When you check in make reservations for dinner, the restaurant setting and food is superior to the dinner buffet. The staff is very friendly and they would surely do their best to accomodate your needs. Overall it was a great experience Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"You get what you pay for."
This hotel has it's perks but also things it can work on. Bottom line this is a no frills resort(meaning you get what you pay for. this is no holiday inn on the beach). i love that it's secluded and a lot of the staff is very nice. and they have a great beach. i also love that it's open and airy. The not so perks are that the cleaning cannot be up to […] par. You truly reap the results of an open and airy resort. bugs everywhere. Even on the buffet style food so you have to be careful there. "Good bang for the buck"
After reading reviews online we set our expectations accordingly, considering the cost of the stay. This helped keep things in perspective. Crowds were minimal during our October stay. The weather was nearly perfect and the water temps terrific. We lucked out and enjoyed a rain free week. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, but it was not without a few snags. […] Our first room had a few maintenance issues that came to a head our first evening. On request we were moved the following day and the second room was much better. This location was chosen by our daughter as a beach destination wedding, and this worked out very well. The only notable frustration with the wedding package was not being able to get details about the included photography, and finding out the limitations and costs after the fact. The hotel also caters to cruise excursions, which can cause a large influx of people coming in for day use of the facilities. I expected it to be worse from online reports. Going off season we did not have a problem finding a chair or shade on the beach or poolside. The food was average, but the selection was decent. The buffet dining is enclosed, but open air and sometimes did get warm. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great honeymoon spot!"
My husband and I went here for our honeymoon. We had a great time! The servers were friendly and fast! The hotel is about 15 minutes away from downtown which was great for being away from all of the people but close enough to go do other things! The beach was beautiful!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel for the Family."
The Staff was really freindly and courteous. There were plenty of amenities and functions to participate in. The Beach was really well kept. We will definetly return and inform our freinds and relatives.Genuine Expedia guest review
Lots of details are unimpressive. The food is good enough; the drinks are good enough; the hot tub is good enough (but with cracking paint). I did not go in thinking that this was the Atlantis, and it was fine. I can see how people with high standards would be disappointed. Nonetheless, I wouldn't object if my friends wanted to stay there.Genuine Expedia guest review
overall it was pretty good. I think the screens in the Junkaroo resturant need to be closed, there were flies getting into the food.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful wedding and Honey Moon."
We decided to stay at the Fortuna because we wanted to get married on the beach. They did a great job with everything from the Minister, pictures and flowers. It was a great time and the staff were happy to have us there. The food was plentiful and tasteful with a different varity to choose from daily. "Free Cockroaches Included in the price!"
I made the mistake of booking a resort with Hotels.com. Upon arriving, I waited for 10 minutes to check-in since the only check-in agent was chatting with another employee. I was given a key to a room located about a 5 minute walk. I got lost a few times since the directions where as clear as mud. Keep left and you will see it, even if the room numbers […] weren’t displayed. I got to my room and my key didn’t work, I returned to the check-in desk. Another 5 min walk and similar wait. The receptionist didn’t apologize, just gave me a new key. I returned to “my room” and what do I find? Someone else’s luggage, shoes and personal items! They basically just gave me a key to some random room! At this point in time, I’m furious and I return to the front desk. I ask the receptionist for a manager, and my request was rejected saying that the manager would return later. At this point, another guest informed me, that while I had a bad time. He found blood residue on the bed in this room!!. I got a new key to a new room, even farther away… I get to my room and what do I find… A lovely roach on the floor (see attached picture with the resort logo)… Bathroom was full of mini-bugs… What a lovely place! Oh… the food could be described as low quality cafeteria food, lots of bugs/flies flying over the food (yes, I know we are in the Caribbean, but still!) A great place to send your enemies, actually… I wouldn’t wish such a hellish place to the worst of my enemies! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We paid extra for ocean view and we did not get it when we arrived at the facility. Since the first day we reported that our shower was broken and nobody ever came to repair it. The only aspect that saved our week vacation in this hotel was the animation staff.Genuine Expedia guest review

Stayed here in the past, actually up to one year ago and this year there has been some upgrades to the property. The beach is clean, there weren't as many birds as last year. The buffet dining needs to somewhat improve, but overall for the price […] of the package, it is expected. I enjoyed my quick weekend away. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Ok resort, Bad staff, and Annoying peddlers!"
Front desk staff had no idea my friend and I were arriving, therefore didn't have our room that I pd. for available. We were placed in a down-graded room for the night and had to then wait for the people in our room to check-out! Once we got the superior oceanfront room, we were pleased. The staff has no clue what each other staff member is doing, nor […] do they treat guests in a pleasing way. When something goes wrong, they definitely take their time in fixing it, often times laughing, joking around, and having a great time with other staff - while you wait ! Housekeeping ladies are the most friendly, as well as the entertainment staff! ***BEWARE of the off-site peddlers who walk the beach EVERYDAY, ALL DAY bugging you and trying to sell various items and hair-braiding. They will ask you 50x's a day, mainly grunting or saying "hey!" really loud to get your attention...JUST IGNORE THEM! Once we got things settled and got into the swing of things, we had a good time. "It depends on your stqandards........"
rooms & comomon areas outdated, cleanliness, touch & go. Food not so good, as week went on it was better, not sure if it was because we were hungry, our standards dropped or if it actually got better. The main cafeteria needed better ventilation, more ceiling fans, it was enclosed & very hot( no ac), You may think, it was the islands in July, of course […] it was hot, however, it was crazy sweat dripping hot) Drinks left something to be desired. the frozen drinks came from a machine that was often broken or couldnt keep up with demand. I ate off of silverwear/napkin that I didnt realize were pre-used until after I used them ( gag). With that all said, once we accepted the conditions we still had a good time. "good value for the price"
beach and the ocean were beautiful. lots of loose coral in the water so you need to watch where you step. had a few cuts and scrapes on my feet from the coral. lots of lounge chairs and shade along the beach. the Italian restaurant was superb. however the buffet was not inspiring. lots of heavy foods. it all seemed to be fried or carbs. they did have […] a small salad bar but they didn't,t always put out salad dressing. the restaurant is screened in and I didn't notice the flies that other reviews have mentioned. however eating heavy food in a non-airconditioned area is nothing I would recommend. the restaurant is mainly just pumping out quantity rather than quality. the room was nice by Bahamas standards. I,ve paid more to stay at worse places in the bahamas (Xanadu). this resort is a great value for the price but if you,re picky or a gourmet you,ll want to look elsewhere. Very nice all-inclusive. The only air-conditioning in the resort is in your room and the reservation required restaurants. . So most of your meals and indoor activities are in the heat of the day. The food is good, the resort staff is very good. You need to get used to the laid-back Caribbean style. Some things are a little disorganized. "Wyndham Fortuna not a Fortune"
As standard hotel policy check-in is at 3pm. We arrived at about 11:30am, while waiting for our room, the accommodations were sub par; the alcohol choices were extremely limited, they served house wines, and no name vodka, there was no scotch, When we finally go to our room, the towels had holes, the bedding was old and frayed. The main dining room […] is filled with frayed and stained napkins. We chose the Caribbean, specifically to experience the "taste" and feel of the Caribbean, however, this resort does not offer any traditional or authentic foods of the Bahamas. The music, the activities, are catered for European tourists; the music streaming through the resort fell within the techno genre. In the evenings, the DJ played the same songs over and over (not once did he play any reggae or calypso). They offered shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the show on Friday was advertised (in the brochure )as Moulin Rouge what we got was a sing-along to Madonna by staff members whose artistic abilities did not meet the standard of HS performers. The cuisine is not up to par for an establishment carrying the Wyndham name; while it is nice to have a variety of culinary choices, I did not go to the Bahamas to eat Chinese food or Italian food. I enjoyed the time I spent with my husband, but we left the resort to truly enjoy our mini-vacation. The location of the resort is great, and has the potential to be a wonderful experience, but there is a lot of work to be done. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
we were apprehensive after reading the other reviews, but this place was exactly what we were looking for on our honeymoon! we knew the food wouldnt be 5 star going into it, but to be able to eat whatever, whenever we wanted made up for it. the drinks weren't strong, as others have said, but we didnt want them to be. we were there to relax- not party […] spring break style. So the weak drinks werent a big deal to us (for those of you who want strong drinks- you can always order a double!). we really enjoyed having everything we needed on the resort grounds, and we only left one time to visit port lucaya. for that, we borrowed bikes from the hotel, and it was a quick 20 min ride into town. "Group Vacation at Viva Wyndham (Oceanview Room)"
About 25 of us went to the Bahamas for a destination wedding and stayed at the Viva Wyndham. We all had a blast. The staff was awesome. Reggie, Keur and Veeto were cool bartenders. They were friendly and made any drink we requested. I'd suggest throwing them a $5 or $10 every now and then. They'll take care of you. As far as the hotel, I think you […] get what you paid for. The room service was awesome. They cleaned the room; however, the floors weren't fully cleaned. My girlfriend complained about sand still being on the floor. I didn't mind because we were rarely in the room. One day, my girl forgot to close the safe in the room all the way and the room service let us know that it was open and reminded us to make sure it says "Closed" before leaving the room. I thought that was very considerate of them. Anyways, the all-inclusive food basically consisted of Burgers, Fries, Chicken Nuggets, Sandwiches, Italian Food (reservations only), Chinese food (reservations only) and some pizza. They also had a Trapeze that was free. This dude names Pudge runs it. He was awesome. The Jet-skis were $70 for a half hour but if you talk to this guy named Chris (who usually wears a St. Louis Cardinals hat by the Lifeguard), he'll give you a whopping $5 off. Also, the pairasailing was $70 a person. My girl never did it so she did it there. She said it was cool but she wouldn't do it again. They charged me $5 to sit on the boat and watch her. Overall, this is a place to be with fam and friend Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was just ok although we had to walk quit a distance, even in the rain. The staff was not to friendly and seemed annoyed most of the time. The room was not cleaned properly , and I can say this because this is what I do for a living, hotel housekeeping. I felt astho I needed to clean it myself. We booked and payed for a kingsize bed delux room […] and got a queen bed that came out of the wall when we asked about a upgrade they kept telling us to check the next morning but noyhing was ever available.
