"Lack of Customer Service"
We ended up not staying at the hotel, but cancelling the reservation after showing up at the hotel. The front desk personnel told me that although I had booked a non-smoking room, one was not available. They do not guarantee room assignments on same day reservations. When I told them I was allergic to cigarette smoke over an extended period of time, […] I was told, "Well, this is a casino." I stated that the hotel itself was not a casino. I was told if I went by the casino, smoke was everywhere. I told them we were not going to the casino but to see a musical group that was playing there. Due to the fact that we allow smoking on the casino floor and in select rooms, containing and eliminating the smoke smell is something we are working hard to improve upon.
Harrahs is a pretty good hotel. Nice location in relation to the downtown area...easy to cab it if you need to. If you want to shop in the Plaza or outlet mall, you have a to drive (maybe 20-25 minutes). The only odd thing about the location is that it sits off of the highway a bit. I attempted to check in at 1:00pm and was informed at the counter that if I wanted to check in before 4:00 there would be a $15.00 charge. Didn't have the room we asked for, so we ended up with a single smoking room for three people. Desk person said there was no fold-out couch; there was, but no sheets or blankets. Housekeeping staff was great and made up the couch when we asked. This is primarily a casino, and the hotel seemed an afterthought. "Didn't like it at all!"
The carpet in the room was very dirty. I dared not walk around bare-footed. You can hear toilets being flushed in other rooms. The entire hotel smelled really funny. "Harrahs hotel in Kansas City was a terrible place."
The hotel room was dirty we called down to the desk 5 times and was transferred to the valet. They said the would clean our room we left for 5 hours came back was still dirty. FIRST, We requested a king non-smoking and when we got there they only had 2 queen in non-smoking. so we took it. the thing was the beds were full size (or the smallest queensi ever saw). We went to a Royals game and ended up getting to Kansas City earlier than expected. The hotel was fantastic because they let us check in early since they had rooms available. "2 major complaints"
My complaints with this hotel are 1: they don't guarantee room type. For example, you may book a king bed NON smoking room but receive a 2 queen SMOKING room, they only guarantee A room. This is like ordering a pizza with pepperoni no sausage & receiving a cheese only pizza, false & neglengent advertising. Complaint number 2: No complimentary wifi internet […] access. They charge $10.95 (probably before taxes are added), for 24 hours of wifi access. As much as the rooms cost, on top of the fact you may receive the opposite room you booked as mentioned earlier & as much money as they make in their casino you'd think they'd extend the common courtesy to provide complimentary wifi but they don't. I only stay here because the NON smoking rooms are nice & it's close to where I work that day of the week (business travel). A good hotel but those 2 areas need to be fixed! We had a 20yr old room on the 2nd floor, that needs to be updated. You could hear every toilet above your room start flushing @ 6:00 in the morning. You get nothing free, not even a bottle of water. The room was awful. When we went into the room, it was gross. We were reluctant to take our shoes off because the carpet was so gross. We could not set on the bed that only had a sheet and a pad of some sort (like a moving pad in a moving truck) wrapped in another sheet with no comforter or any type of blanket. The chairs in the room had stains all […] over them with stuff that looked like it would get on our clothes. The bathroom was not clean and there was hair everywhere. My husband called the front desk, after being on hold for approx. 20 minutes, the clerk said to come down to the front desk. Since the room was in my name, I went down and when approaching the counter and saying that my husband had just called and they said to come down. The desk clerk asked what the problem is and I told her that the room was unacceptable and that it is gross. She said "what do you want us to do about it?" Seriously, unprofessional. I asked for a different room and she gave us one but she was extremely rude about it. After us moving our stuff to another room on another floor the rude people did not even apologize. that room was slightly cleaner but not much. There was cigarette smoke blowing in thru our vent the entire time. After paying over $400.00 to stay there for two nights, we find this to be ridiculous and would NEVER stay at Harrah's Casino Kansas City again and advise others not to. "not as flashy when inside"
We were just passing through and had a dog with us, so we had to get a pet friendly room which apparently is the same as a smoking room because it smelt like an ash tray. The room appeared to be cleaned but then I found a used soap bar in the bathroom and knew it was at most wiped down really fast. Location was great and the hotel was neat. I was not happy when I got to the hotel and found out that the King room I reserved was not available. The lady rudely told me that they do not guarantee what you book online, that they were full and pretty much that it was nothing she could do about it because it was sold out.
