There are only two things I can find any fault with at the Montvale. I stayed on a weeknight, and was on the back, or South side of the hotel, on the 3rd floor. The train tracks, 1/2 block away are the same height as the hotel windows and trains run all night. Also, trash P/U was in the early hours and breaking glass was constant for about 10 minutes, very early. It was noisy! The ceilings are high, probably 12'. The shower head is mounted about 9'. I felt like I was standing in a drizzle. I like some water pressure from the shower. Outstanding boutique hotel. Great restaurant in the basement, good cont. breakfast on 2nd floor.

The hotel offers a nice atmosphere and very comfortable bed. The downsides are paying for valet parking and the noise level--mostly from the street. I easily heard people outside and lots of traffic noise. I also easily heard people in the rooms next to mine. So, the sound proofing isn't great.

This is the second time we have stayed here. We have really enjoyed it both times. Our only complaint, which wouldn't keep us from staying there again, is that the breakfast is pretty lame. However, there are several great places within walking or very short driving distance that have a great breakfast, so there you go.

The hotel was beautiful and has been restored to very nice standards. The road noise that some complained about in other reviews was not a problem. The room was clean and good sized. Amenities were nice and the restaurant in the basement was great as well. The hotel is close to everything downtown for shopping, eating, and drinking. There is valet parking available for the hotel because parking is a problem otherwise, but all of our needs were downtown so there was no need for our car until we left.

The Montvale is a nice old boutique hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. Our room faced the street, so it was pretty loud during the night. There are plenty of places to eat and drink right near the hotel. The Catacombs Pub, located on the bottom level of this hotel has wonderful food! Bring your appetite because the fare is very heavy - two adults could easily split an entree. Go for the Apex Chard - it is very nice, if you enjoy wine. They also have Guinness, which is always a plus. The shopping mall is also within walking distance. Desk service and valet parking are great! Very nice people!!

Opt for the valet parking. Catacombs, the restaurant in the basement, has great ambiance and the caesar salad and pizza I had there were both wonderful. I do not know where to start. When we pulled up to the Hotel, there was a sign that said Valet parking bu noone there to park your car. We travled 4 hours after work to get there and the service to check in was awful noone greeted us, treated us like we did not belong there. We were told to park half a block away and pay $15.00 to park there and if we wanted to leave for dinner or any other leisure we would have to pay another $15.00. Also the parking was in a very scary location. The Front Desk was very unhelpful and rude. Our room was okay but the bathroom was dirty, the sheets had stains. Also I thought we were in Las Vegas due the flashing lights from a sign across the street. In the morning there was no hot water to take a shower! The street noise and the flasing lights all night we barely got any sleep. I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone, I still have not recieved a call back from a manager so that shows the lack in customer service from the top down!

In general, this is a good hotel in a good location; it's a beautiful old building. The only disappointment is that they don't have a computer terminal for guest use, and I specifically picked that hotel because I understood the description to say that they did. (Apparently there is a hookup available in your own room if you bring your own laptop, but no freestanding terminal for those of us who travel without.) These days, access to a computer terminal is a basic service and I was surprised and disappointed an otherwise fine hotel doesn't offer it. But for that, I'd give it a good review.

I always use these reviews to help me with my hotel stays so I thought I would do one. This hotel was wonderful. The room was beautiful and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. I was amazed at how beautifully it has all been restored. The Catacombs restaurant, in the basement, was really cool to check out. We didn't eat there, just went down for some drinks. Waitress was very friendly and efficient. Many people started coming in about 11pm ish, I think a show had just got out nearby and they started cooking up woodfire pizzas for people, they looked and smelled wonderful. They also have this very cool smores dessert where you get your own little fire at your table to roast marshmellows. I would definitely stay here again. The only draw back I have is the parking situation. Because it is in downtown Spokane, you have to use their valet service. There is a parking lot next to and behind the hotel, but it's a pay lot and for not much more you can do their valet service. It's kind of what you expect though if you are going to stay in a "downtown" area anywhere though. You can park in the street, but it's metered. We lucked out because we got there Sat. night and after a certain time you don't have to pay for the meter and they are also free on Sunday. So it just depends on when you are there. The hotel was very quiet I think they were pretty fully booked I heard. The room was a little warm for us at night and we like it pretty cold for sleeping so we cracked a window, it didn't have a screen on it kind of weird and yes because of being downtown we did hear some people talking, but it wasn't bad. The train does run along the back side of the hotel, but I slept through it all it didn't bother me. The staff, experience and how adoreable it all is would make me want to stay again. Especially if you have things going on downtown and want to be close, this place is perfect and charming. I would recommend this hotel especially for the experience and history of the place,

This hotel is right on a very busy street and you can here every car and person outside. And they did not have dvd players in the rooms and no pay per view show. But that really did not matter because the tv was so small you counld not see it any way. I doped my money on the floor and when I looked under the bed there was trash from guest before me. The tub was backed up so it was like showering in a pond.

This hotel was so pretty on the inside. Decorated in 20's era, it had plenty of character and was so much bigger once you got inside. Our room was the perfect size and very clean. The continental breaksfast was really good. We also liked the fact that we didn't have to check out until 12:00. The only thing we can really complain about is the lack of parking and I'm pretty sure most hotels in the area are the same. We had the choice of expensive valet parking, street parking (max is 4 hours) or pre-paid parking lots, which most you negotiate for the price. Overall, we loved this hotel and would highly recommend to anyone else. We will definitely return.

The hotel is modest in front, but when you go upstairs to the "other lobby" it is beautiful! The rooms are lovely, but a little dark...we were thrilled with our experience until we went to bed. You can hear everything, and I mean EVERYTHING that goes on in the adjacent rooms, downstairs in the restaurant & on the street. There was some sort of party going on at the adjacent restaurant (not the Catacombs) until the wee hours of the morning - loud music (I mean really loud) people yelling and laughing and so on.... After the party ended we could hear people's conversations (clearly) from the street, and all that was taking place in the adjacent rooms. It was a nightmare, except we couldn't sleep. We were in room 202 at the front of the hotel.

I've stayed here several times and been satisfied each time. The service was good - I like the convenience of being downtown and not having to trouble with parking. Also, the desk clerks and valets are pretty good about remembering names and what you like. The rooms are always spotless and so comfortable - I do think the windows could be insulated - outdoor noises can get loud. Of the two restaurants connected with the hotel - Catacombs is wonderful and part of the reason why I stay here.

If you are used to downtown street noise it should be no problem. I would suggest bringing ear plugs. It is a fun hotel and I would recommed it to please. They should know about the noise though.

Wow-I spend alot of time in hotels and this is one of the best! Very comfortable, tastefully decorated with alot of attention paid to detail. When I arrived in Spokane it was raining, foggy and cold. When I opened the door to my room, it was warm and lit-very welcoming. Their 2nd floor lobby is awesome- firplaces (gas), candles (fake), soft music. The only suggestion I have is that they provide some pillows which are not too overstuffed. The ones they have on the bed are great for reading and watching t.v., but not for sleeping. Also, take earplugs, it is located downtown and early morning traffic is inevitable. Highly recommend this place and will stay there again. P.S. the restaurnat next door is excellent.

Only had a couple problems. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get the food I ordered from room service. They didn't enter the order the first time and then had to call me back again to let me know that they were out of what I ordered. Food was good once it came and they did try to compensate by giving a free desert. Only other problem was that the tv remote had issues. Some buttons didn't work correctly. Other than that I think it's a very cute hotel and would stay there again.
