The hotel is about 10 mins walk from Tram station which is very convenient for public transport to and from city center. The room is furnished with kitchen and there is a supper market nearby that we can buy foods and cook for ourselves. The room is clean, quiet and comfortable.

The City Residence was a mid-grade hotel. It was a fair cost for what was offered. It is very close to the city center, and maybe 5 minutes from the city tram. Therefore, I found this a good stay if you are sight-seeing Bordeaux on a budget. The surrounding neighborhood looks a little sketchy, but I had no problems. The hotel states it has air-conditioning.. but they should clarify that as air-conditon that doesn't work... right there with the claim that they have parking for your car.. but you can't use it. (The gate to the lot apparently doesn't work). If your looking for cheap and being in Bordeaux... look harder. I heard there were better places to stay. I […] complained about the air conditioning and kept getting promises it would be taken care of, but it never came to pass. They couldn't move us to a different room. We checked out two days earlier. I got a ton of bug bites. The air never worked, which meant an open window with no screens. I had well over 20 bites on just one arm. The desk is only staffed during certain limited hours. If you need something beyond those hours.,.. to bad. They charge you if you call them after hours and it is not an emergency. NO PARKING - I would not stay here again. I recommend that if you keep looking. It was clean. You have to clean up after yourself or they charge you 70 Euros at departure. They do not provide soap to clean up with or even garbage bags. We had to purchase those at the store. They only give you one towel a week per person. You have to wash it if you want clean towels after a few days. They charge 7.50 Euros to wash a load (over $10 US dollars). It was cheap and clean... but the lackof service and the airconditioning/bugs made it not worth it. Read more

We made a reservation for one night as a break on the trip from Spain to Paris. Our expectations were not high, but even then we were disappointed. Pros: the bad sheets and towels were clean. Cons: * This is a smelly, dirty place. It is not maintained and it is possible that some time ago it was a decent hotel. * The smell in the room is a strange […] mix of mold and body fluids. It seems that they had a lot of issues with water leaks as it is visible even on the outside of the building. * The room was on the third floor and the terrace had 5cm (2 inches) of water - the breeding ground for mosquitoes. Our kids had more than 20 bites each in the morning. * The neighborhood is not the nicest. We had to find a place to park of our own as the hotel parking is locked and empty. Apparently, the gate locks are broken and the parking is not functional anymore. * The beds are not comfortable, some kind of plastic covered mattresses... As a final insult, this place is awarded 3-star rating from the French department of tourism. It is possible that it was like that some time ago, but now it looks like a place that should be closed. Large rooms, non touristy area of town. More like a dorm room with beds that are fold out sofa's (in other words, for me: not confortable at all). Price was great! room and building were clean. just no character at all and terrible beds.

It is unaceptable that hotel reception closes at 8 pm and the after hours service is not able to give you a solution. Moreover, I don´t understand why hotels.com could not contact the hotel´s manager to sort out this problem. Definitely, it seems to me that customer is not important both for the hotel and for hotels.com.

We stayed for 5 nights and felt as though the room was not adequately set up for self catering. There were no dishcloths etc for cleaning dishes and so it was hard to use the facilities to cook for ourselves. Also, the pillows were pathetically thin and the bed was extremely uncomfortable.

Very convenient hotel located in the centre of Bordeaux. Rooms are small apartments, ideal for families like us with two children. Kitchen and fridge also very handy, we arrived late and the automated system for access was perfect but I missed instructions to use the car park. The hotel is very shabby. When I arrived the lights weren't working on the 3rd floor. The room itself needs to be renovated... a lot of chips and dents on the walls. Tub caulking was gross. This residence is similar to a students hall of residence - basic but functional. The studios are smallish but well equiped. The studio could have been maintained better, for example, there was a light fitting missing and rust in the bathroom. However, given its location - near the centre of Bordeaux - overall it was a good ratio price/quality.

From the picture there was a bed and a sofa, and the ad said 'additional amenities' include a sofa bed... but there was only a sofa bed. The dishes included were not even close to being clean. The fridge didn't work so they moved us to another room […] which also had dirty dishes put away in the cabinet, but was lacking a bottle opener and a frying pan. The sofa bed was so bad I didn't get much sleep and my girlfriend slept on the floor. After the first night in this place I had itchy rashes all over my legs and arms. Other than having fairly restrictive reception hours this is a great hotel. The rooms are nice and spacious and the location is near the river. The price on hotel rooms is very reasonable and there's a good sized public parking space in front of the hotel.

This hotel looked okey from the outside. It is a 20 min walking distance to the city centre but if the weather is nice you can walk along the river towards the centre. Our main complaint about this place was that there was no bed in the room only a sofabed made for two with a thin mattress. Very, very basic make sure you read the smallprint carefully. Room is only cleaned once a week. Air conditioner was broken before our arrival, staff couldn't care less about fixing it. Wouldn't even give us a fan instead. Moving to another room was also impossible. Sofa bed only in room. As other reviews have suggested, City Residence is a bit difficult to find. Here are some directions: From the airport, get on either the Jet'Bus service (€7) or the number 1 bus (€1.40) and get off at either Gambetta or Quinconces where it is possible to get on the tram (Line 2-Red) heading towards Claveau. Get off the tram at Cours de Medoc and walk […] back in the direction you have come from, over the Cours de Medoc road and on your right, after around 200 yards, you will find a road called Rue de Poyenne, go down this road for another couple of hundred yards and then take a left (it will be the first available left turn) walk straight on and you will come into a square, look directly to your left and you should see the hotel. As for the hotel itself, for what I payed, I was very happy. I have stayed in better hotels but I have had to pay substantially more money for the privelage. This hotel is excellent value for money and the basics are good, ie. clean bedroom, clean bathroom, which I find important. It can get noisy if you get a room on the second floor, as my friend did, as there are some double doors half way down the corridor which bang closed quite loudly. All rooms are fully air conditioned (no extra cost) and have a kitchenette complete with fridge, stove, sink and utensils. It is possible to get into the city quickly by simply walking back to the tram stop at Cours de Medoc and getting on the tram heading towards Pessac. All in all, although this hotel is a bit out of the way it really is a good bargain. I would recommend you give it a look, Read more

the stove was dirty and didn't work, the receptionist had difficulty smiling, the hotel was difficult to find - even locals weren't sure where it was!! it was disconcerting to have to close thick curtains on a sunny day because the balcony of the next door neighbour was only a few feet away!!
