"Just ok place."
The stay was ok. The beds were horrible!!!! The mattress was about the cheapest thing I've ever seen or slept on. The towels and washcloths were also very bad. Very old and were torn and frayed and very thin. For the price we paid it wasn't worth it. They need to replace all the mattresses and linen. Other than that it wouldn't be too bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fabulous Place to stay"
Outstanding, everything you could want plus ten times more. 3 pools, hot tub, sandy beach, boardwalk type dock/marina w/ gazebos, lawn swings, shuffleboard, horse shoes, tennis courts, BBQ grills, camp fire pit. The kids ages 6 & 8 didn't want to leave! Definately worth every pennyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Rooms were outdated and a little small for the price. Breakfast was also not up to par for price, just cereal and hard muffins.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not Happy with the room."
The room had a very bad odor in it. Had to leave the window open the entire time we were there. Staff not very friendly. I would not call this a resort at all!!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Too bad the pool wasn't ready for use - it was 85 degrees last weekend! Breakfast should be described as continental as it was minimal - cereal, juice and small rollsGenuine Expedia guest review
"Sittin' on the dock of the bay"
Hotel was clean and well maintained. The location is serene and the grounds are very well kept. The continental breakfast is an added touch. I would stay again, no doubt.Genuine Expedia guest review
"South Beach Resort in Marblehead OHIO"
Great location, beach access, boat docking, clean rooms-grounds and pool. Little pricey but location makes it worth it. Was a little disappointed that they did not tell us we would be charged pere night for cot in room up front.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"very dissappointed for price vs amennities"
I should have trusted my instincts when I read other reviews. We can stay a entire week at the ocean in 2 bdrm condo for what we paid here for 2 nites! Then when checking out (checking out not checking in!) We were told that our initial charge was only for 2 people and we had to pay $$ more money per person per nite plus fees and taxes. Supposedly this […] is in contract which I have not located. The Jaccuzzi tub had black mold in it. The mattresses were very uncomfortable and comforter was dirty. The bathroom smelled of mildew. Our "courtyard View" was an alley and the building in front ( with a closed down Restaurant). We were not impressed, This is definetly not a "Resort". Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"WAY WAY Overpriced"
We were attracted to this Hotel because of the pools and the beach on the lake. Just because the word "Resort" is attached to the name doesn't mean you should pay more. The beds were not comfortable and had cheap fitted sheets. The lake wasn't swimworthy but the pools were nice. For the price I would expect much more than the complementary breakfast […] that was provided. The staff was helpful and friendly. Overall we were not at all satisfied with our experience mainly because of the high price for what we got. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"South Beach Resort - relaxing and good home base"
We were on a girls' getaway and enjoyed the lack of hustle and bustle and the upgrade to a room with a view of the bay and a balcony. The staff was nice and helpful. The resort's website needs updating badly. We would have been very disappointed if we were going to enjoy the "private beach" which was 50ft long by 10ft deep at a 45 degree angle and the […] water had plenty of string algae. There was no restaurant or bar, those seemed to have been closed for some time. That was fine, we enjoyed trying out a variety of eateries. Overall, we had a great time but update the website so others won't be disappointed! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Too Far Out"
Not a good place for drive through couple. It might be better for a family who wanted to stay a few days. Everything was clean but needed updating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I was sold on staying by the water and seeing the lake every morning when I woke up. This was truly great, I loved the view. When it comes to cleanliness and upkeep to the place it was not to my standards. The bed had small blood stains on it. The floor had dead rose petals in the corner. Where the coffee cups set I found two dead bugs. The shower curtian had dirt or sand on it. The walls are super thin. The ceiling was painted in patches about in five different places. Bug smears were on the walls and ceilings. I paid 249.00 a night for a king suite with the jaz. tub. I just expected more. If no view I would have moved after the first night. We also did not stay in our room much as we were more for the sight seeing. Which marblehead has beautiful sights not sure were to stay that would be better but beware. If the view is worth it like it was for me it is a truly great view. Just make sure you be prepared for not the

A big resort smashed on a tiny piece of property. We didn't stay in the cabins only the hotel portion. The rooms were average hotel type rooms, we were on the ground floor had a back porch with chairs the room was comparable to holiday Inn or something like that. The room was not stellar or super clean, dusty windows , debri on the air unit, base boards were dusty, & mattresses although comfy were stained and worn out. The main lobby, halls, game room, & bathrooms were stuffy and hot! The breakfast needs some umph... and turn on the AC. You can't enjoy your morning fresh roasted coffee if you are... roasting yourself! The pools were nice but small & all over crowded with drunk people. We probably would never stay again for the $250 price per night. Maybe $100 per night hotel... they are on the water but it's not even close to the hotel.
"Great Relaxing Family Vacation"

My family and I had a great time at South Beach. We came up to Marblehead for the weekend and we were trilled we stayed at South Beach. The resort had a marina for our boat. We were able to take the boat and tube in the bay right behind the resort. The property itself is gorgeous. The resort has two pool areas. One down by the water for the wife and I and a great large family pool for the kids. The hotel rooms were great. My wife and I had a king bed with down bedding and a great water view with a balcony and the kids were right across the hall in a standard room that was quite roomy. The front desk staff was very accommodating. They always had suggestions on what to do and where to go. They had great insider information. I would recommend this hotel to all my family and friends
"charge card before stay"

be careful. they charged my card when I made my reservation at $290.00 I called back and asked why they do that and they said they inform everyone at time of reservation of this policy. No...they did not. I have not stayed their yet, but after reading the reviews I am already unhappy I didnt read them before making the reservation.
"Great location, family atmosphere"

My family and I stayed for a long weekend in June and the resort was all we could ask for. We took the Kelly's Island Ferry which was located near the resort for a quick trip to Kelly's island one day and made the short drive to Cedar Point the next. The view and amenities are everything you can ask for on Lake Erie.

South Beach was such a great place to go with friends. The facilities are beautiful and the employees are welcoming. Enjoyed every second of our stay!! Cannot wait to go back for another stay at the lovely South Beach Resort.
"Not the greatest..."

South Beach Resort was OK for what we needed. We were just looking for a place to stay after going to Kelleys Island for the day. My wife accepted the "Romance Package" which was to include a gift card at Mon Ami, rose petals and champagne. Of course, there was no record of that when we checked in but the price of the room was still the same as if we had received the romance package. After some negotiation, we would receive the Mon Ami gift card the first night we were there and the additional items the second night. Mon Ami was excellent and will get a separate review. We never did receive the rose petals and champagne and were reluctantly given an $11 rebate when we checked out. Everyone is spot on when they say that everything can be heard. We stayed at the end of the hall on the fourth floor so luckily we had minimal noise. There was a creaky spot in the floor so I am sure the people below us got to listen to us walking around. As mentioned in other reviews, the balcony is extremely small. There is a coffee maker in the room but no microwave or fridge. The resort IS on the water but the property is long and narrow so you do have to walk the length of the property to get to the beach. However, the property is clean and well maintained. The kiddie pool and pirate play ship are a tip off that this is not an exclusive couples-only resort. I'm sure it would be fine for extended families who want to gather everybody in one spot but I think a romantic weekend getaway might be elusive. There are rules EVERYWHERE - be quiet, don't run, only walk out this door but only walk in that door, wear your wristband everywhere you go but don't lose it or we will charge you $10, etc. Jeffery Gitomer would go ballistic with this resort! Overall, it was a fair property but not exceptional. It is my opinion that this resort is overpriced for what it offers.

Wonderful resort. Very helpful front desk. Came here with my two sisters and our spouses. The water views are awesome. We even played some shuffleboard. Loved the fire pit circle. Wish we could have stayed longer.
"Was not told the truth!!!"
06/21/14 Cara C Hubbard, Ohio
I had been looking for a place for a long weekend stay. After calling several places, I called here and they told me this place sat "right on the beach" and we would have a Lake front view. Well that was the farthest thing from the truth. When we arrived, the place looked nice. After checking in and getting our room, we opened the patio door and was I soooo upset. We DID NOT have a lake view but a view of the cottage that was beside us, so my view was the side of a building.. I told my husband, we are not going to stay here, for what I paid, and what I was told, this is terrible. He went down the the front desk and told the girl working there about the situation. She said that she could move us 2 doors down and we would have a "better view". We got the keys to the new room, well.. not much better.. the only view we had was of a pool and a ship in the play area, and a volley ball court. The "beach" was quite a distance away and you had to walk a cement path to get down to it. So them telling you this sits "right on the beach" is a total lie. When my husband went down to the desk again, to see what could be done, while he was standing there, another girl was on the phone telling yet another caller, that they sat right on the beach and would have full lake view.. my husband looked at the other female at the desk and said " did you hear what she just said to the person on the phone, she is telling them the same thing we were told", she looked at my husband with a shocked face and raised her eyebrows and put her head down. So they were busted!!!! When told that we wanted to leave, we were told that there were no refunds. Really? I never got an email, which they told me I would get, or they never gave us a paper that said anything about not being able to have a refund. I feel totally deceived. I also wanted to make mention that while my son was sitting in the Jacuzzi tub in the room, it started to smell like something was burning so I made him get out and turn it off. Also all the tiles around the top of the Jacuzzi are coming off and were just laying there, and the noise in the middle of the night was TERRIBLE!!!!! I don't know what they were doing above us, but I thought they were coming thru the floor. Just beware when you book here, I learned a very expensive lesson. I have tried to email the company and surprise no response, I am not shocked.. horrible experience!!!!!!!!
"Enjoyed our stay!"

We stayed at South Beach Resort in June 2014 and would definitely return. The resort is one of the few places to stay that is on the lake. It's not a luxury resort with the finest of everything, but it is clean and well maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The outside of the property is great looking and offers two pool areas ( 3 pools and a jacuzzi), sand volleyball, great kids play areas, shuffle board, a fire ring that is lit at night and a marina. There are gazebos on the pier to provide excellent places to view the lake. We stayed in the hotel and our room faced the lake. We enjoyed time on our balcony. Our room had a jacuzzi but we did not use it. We also had a full bathroom and a 2nd separate sink area, which is very handy. The resort offers cabins and villas for larger groups. The only drawback I saw, and I did not find it all that annoying, was there is no restaurant on site. There are 2 pizza places that deliver to the resort, but we chose to go out instead. It take 5 - 10 minutes to get to several restaurants. No shortage of choices. The resort did serve a continental breakfast of pastries, cereals, breads, bagels and juices. If you want to relax and enjoy the lake give South Beach Resort a try.
