We had 2 rooms for 2 nights, I had requested bottom floor or near elevator for in laws. The Inn not only granted our request they put us right across the hall from each other. We had to call due to being very late, spoke with Cedrick he not only left us directions on which building to go to with maps he left his cell # in case we needed anything at […] midnight - wow I was impressed, room was so large and comfy great linens breakfast was wonderful. The waitress knew my husband did not eat eggs and she went out of her way to see that he had a full hot breakfast. We would absolutely stay there again. The woman at the check-in desk heard my husband say I might not be too happy with the restaurant because there were no vegetarian dishes. The stay was nice. It was expensive, but we went there for our anniversary.The shower was unreliable. I told the desk, and they will repair it. Also, it is near the traffic, as are many places to stay, so it was noisy. But the staff was very courteous anfd friendly, and the breakfast was delightful.A nice luxury-type place.

Had a great time. Knowledgeable staff and great restaurant. Huge wine selection! Make time to see the Lady Bird Johnson Grove in the Redwood National Forest and Fern Canyon as well. Easy day trip from Eureka.

Very comfortable inn - off the beaten track. Friendly staff, cozy bar and convenient, classy restaurant. Nice breakfast in the morning. Only slight negative - you may not be staying in the pictured inn, but the larger, somewhat less attractive structure accross the street. Also, no elevator.

This was a beautiful B+B, we enjoyed taking a walk to a local pub, then along the waterfront during the evening, then had an excellent breakfast. We had a comfortable, but small room, but there was outside noise, as we were on the first floor with our window facing the alley.

I had higher expectations for this hotel after reading all of the reviews for it. We stayed here for two nights while visiting a number of parks in the area to see the redwood trees. Maybe there are better rooms in the hotel, but ours deserved barely a 3 out of 5 ranking. Many of the area rugs in the hotel were threadbare (at some point, shabby chic […] just becomes shabby) and the carpets could have used a good vacuuming. The bed and pillows were just average (but the towels were nice). There actually seemed to be mold growing along the grout line in the tub and the whole thing needed to be regrouted. Noise was an issue -- you could hear everything through the walls and ceiling and from the hallway outside our room. Given the hotel's location on a side street, there was surprisingly quite a bit of traffic noise, too. The staff was friendly and helpful in making recommendations for dining and sightseeing. We took notice of the other hotels in Eureka and decided that this was still probably the nicest hotel in town, but it really was a bit disappointing. Read more

Very beautiful and comfortable beds. The price for the food in the restaurant is somewhat over-rated but it is convenienent. We were on our honeymoon. Our room was upgraded as we were graciously appreciative. If you like a B&B..........highly recommed it.

Carter House Inn is the nicest place I have ever stayed in Eureka. Comfortable clean rooms. It is a little noisy - you can hear people in the parking lot, the hall, and the footsteps of those on the floor above. The quilts hanging over the bed gave my husband claustrophobia. The Inn is very easy to access from the 101 and is in a great neighborhood […] close to a park. Breakfast wasn't the usual extravagant breakfast you get at a B&B. Our stay was wonderful. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was spectacular and the breakfast was marvelous. It was truly evident that everyone was committed to the Carter House and it showed throughout the building and service. If you are in Eureka this is a must stay.

To be honest, this place turned me off 'quaint country inns' and B&B's for life. I'll never take the chance again. People pay outrageous amounts unless they book through a service like this, and if you do that, expect a less-than-preferable room. Forgive me for this incredibly scathing review, but there is not exaggeration involved- only profound disappointment. […] I'm not sure how many (if any) of the rooms are actually ok, but the ones I saw appeared the same as mine- laughable. First, it's not clean at all. Dust on all the lamps, fixtures, even the alarm clock- MOLD on the window frames. The floors were hardly (if at all) vacuumed, and the decor pillows had obviously used cases. Coffee and god knows what else splattered on the walls and baseboards. The bathrooms are beyond cramped. Dated doesn't begin to describe the place, and updated should never come into the conversation. Good luck finding outlets if you have more than one device. At least they provide a dirty un-surge protected multiport... You can also hear every single sound within the hotel and outside. It's really terrible, as is the low-hanging 'tapestry' above the beds. Atrocious, really. I absolutely could not wait to get back to the little unit at Bayfront One, which is probably the only place in the entire town I'd recommend- especially if you have allergies. And even then, I'd only suggest their one-bedroom unit because of noise. As for Carter House, skip the inn part completely, unless you really want to pay through the nose for entirely undue pretentiousness. I didn't even bother with the restaurant, even though the main parts of the hotel are actually quite nice n comparison to the rooms. I understand they have an ' on-site organic garden', but nothing growing around there could be particularly healthy with the traffic, runoff, old sewage pipes, etc, under the ground. At the end of the day, the hotel is just a old house remodeled to be a hotel. The hotel is too expensive compared to the others in the areas. I felt I got short changed.

This beautifully appointed small hotel is on the edge of the historic "Old Town" area of Eureka. We had a beautiful two room suite with a jacuzzi and a very comfortable bed. The hotel is quiet, and the restaurant is superb. The wine list could be the most extensive I have ever seen.

The bed was a stone, and as for at the coast, it was so hot in the room we could not sleep. The breakfast was no more than a continental breakfast served at every motel in the nation. There was no air movement in the room. Overall it was one of the most unsatisfying stays my wife and I have ever had.

We stayed in this lovely B & B type hotel only one night and wish it had been more. The staff is helpful and accomodating in every way. If we need a place in Eureka again, this would certainly be our first choice. The included breakfast was excellent and served in a tasteful dining room. Parking is on the street.

We booked our hotel room about a week before our stay, and we chose it because it got such high reviews. They were not wrong! When we arrived, they had upgraded us to a suite at no extra charge because of overbooking, and walked us up to our room to show us around. Then we had a free tasting of their Carter wines, and enjoyed happy hour at their bar […] (which the bartender extended a few extra minutes since we showed up five minutes late), and he even took us all on a "field trip" to see their wine cellars. We missed the tea time with cookies because we were out exploring but it was nice to know that option was there. Breakfast the next morning was above and beyond free breakfast that we've had anywhere else. Scrambled eggs with a basil puree, diced fire roasted peppers and bacon. Plus fresh pastries, fruit, coffee, tea, yogurt, etc. All free. The room was clean, and cozy and had a great view of the harbor. The staff was excellent! Highly recommend. Read more

We stayed at the Carter House Inns for two nights while visiting the Redwood National Forest. It was about an hour drive to the park, but there really wasn't anywhere else to stay besides Eureka except for camp sites. The hotel was very nice and clean. Our room was in the old Victorian mansion across the street. It was cozy and fun to hang out in the […] common area with a fireplace and comfortable couches. The only thing I didn't like was that the room was a bit cold, but there was a space heater and they turned up the heat in the house for us. The restaurant 301 in the hotel was fabulous. Some of the best food I've ever eaten. The breakfasts were delicious, almost gourmet, and it was included in the room. We ate dinner there the last night of our stay, and I'd have to say it was some of the best food I've ever eaten. It was pricey, but delicious. They decorate everything with flowers and not only did it taste amazing, it looked amazing. The hotel staff was pretty friendly and helped us find places to hike and see the Redwoods, as well as find places to eat around the hotel. One woman even went on a hunt for ice (double bagged) to put with our lunch to keep it cold. She went above and beyond to help me out, and I really appreciate that kind of service. In general, the hotel was nice, clean, and friendly, the food was amazing, and it was in a good location close to historic Eureka with lots of shops and places to eat, and close enough (about an hour) to the state and national Redwood parks.
