"No fridge, even when requested ahead"
Very serviceable motel, clean and neat, ok restaurant. Right next to a freeway, but inside rooms are quiet. Large facility. If you need a fridge you must be persistent. I asked for a fridge, in person, at the front desk, to an experienced employee, 2 days before our second rez. He keyed something into the system and gave me a lot of assurances and an […] "upgraded room". When we arrived, no fridge. A different desk employee gave me 15 min of excuses, that I was suppose to call the morning, AND again in the afternoon of the day of arrival. Would NOT accept that I had requested the fridge in person and was confirmed. He told me to use ice. Fine. Did they bother to provide the fridge on our following days?? NO. Not the worst inconvenience, but certainly not customer service, either. Just FYI Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is from the fifties but very well kept with beautiful landscaping around the pool area. Staff very helpfull and the room was clean. Traffic from the road but it did not keep us up and we had a room close to the road. Would come back. Nice little restaurant on premises.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean But Dated"
The grounds of the property are beautiful; the on-property restaurant was very convenient; the staff was very friendly. The room we were given didn't look anything like the one shown on the website. It was a little on the dark side (poor lighting, except when we turned the track lights on and then it was too bright), very"retro-60's"! TV was an older […] CRT model (no flat screen); bathroom had poorly operating sliding window and no vent-fan; the tile floor (near the clothes bar - no closet) had a noticeable slope to it. "Nice garden, good resturant."
It was very good, but it is too far to walk to downtown Visalia where the action and convention center are located. You'll need a car, but parking downtown is mostly free and easy to find. Takes 7-8 minutes to get there. Good price for a very pleasant place. Place is old but well kept and has all the features minus the fluff of a large hotel. Free internet […] is a plus for sure. All in all, I'd go back for another visit to Visalia or the Sequoia Big Trees. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overall dissapointing for the cost"
The room got freezing in the middle of the night and there was not heater to turn on (or I could not find it). There was no hot water in the morning when I wanted to take a shower. There was a big gap at the bottom of the door that connected to the adjacent room and I could hear everything that was going on in the other room. The hotel advertised a […] restaurant and bar, but I only saw a diner that looked out of date. My room was also advertised as having a garden view, but it actually had a parking lot view. Still the staff was friendly and professional and the hotel was clean. I would probably not stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great little place. Really nice for very reasonabl"
The place is right off the highway, but you don't know it while on property. Grounds are immaculate. Everything is pristine and clean, even though it's an older "motel" style property, it is as nice as could be. Beautiful landscaping, and the restaurant was great for breakfast ( we didn't try lunch or dinner) I'd stay there again for sure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The updated rooms are great. The front desk, as always, is most accommodating. Love the grounds. Fantastic breakfast within the compound. Wish the beds were a little more comfortable. Overall a great place to stay and will again and again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"An Excellent Place for a Visit"
About every three or four months, I make my trip from Pollock Pines to Visalia to visit my deceased wife's grave. My stay at the Lamp Liter Inn is a special part of my trip. They always give me a non-smoking room even without my having to ask for it. The staff is courteous and helpful. I am content to use their coffee shop, because the food is excellent, […] especially their shrimp fajitas, which comes sizzling on an iron skillet. I will continue to use the Lamp Liter Inn for my future visits. Also, the room price is very affordable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Came for one night stay. The grounds are beautiful, lots of grass and plants and places to walk around. BUT the rooms are older and the beds sag. The staff was friendly. I rated this low because there was a wedding onsite and people coming and going all night long. The 2nd floor shook like an earthquake any time someone walked by. The mirror in the […] room actually vibrated! Then the maids started rolling their carts and talking and laughing out loud at 7am on SUNDAY! All I got from staff when I complained was "I heard it was noisy last night" and that was it! I WON'T RETURN. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Overpriced and not great"
I book a room for my parents for one night. We checked them in checked out the room. We were curious what the rooms were like. We live not too far and notice the grounds are very nice. So we figured the rooms must be decent. Long story short, they were very outdated and poorly furnished. They need a decor upgrade badly! They also need to invest in much […] better quality beds and mattresses. The room seemed clean but very underwhelming for the $90/night. Overall we would not recommend staying here. Walking into the room was like walking into an 80's motel literally. The only nice feature was the bathroom area that seemed somewhat decent. The shower was a little small but functional. For the price, it would better paying an extra $10-$20 and stay at a much newer and updated place. Honestly I can't imagine Lamp Liter Inn being in business much longer if they don't upgrade the room decor and invest in quality furniture. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Desaster of a stay"
My wife and I have stayed at the Lamp Liter Inn over the past 3 years and have seen a slow decline in the overall quality of this facility. Upon arrival we overheard a conversation with another guest that the heater cannot be turned on until the outside temp reaches 57deg. Due to this fact, our room 200 was VERY cold! Even with my sweatshirt still on, […] we were very cold. The room plugs were so worn out they wouldn't keep our charger plugged in. The Wi-fi didn't work! Upon complaint we were finally moved to a cottage #286. The fireplace screen was in with hot water heater Room. There was no fireplace key, and no way to light the fire even if we were able to turn on the gas. The front desk agent said he could not speak good English and was new to this job. To leave an employee alone, in the afternoon/evening shift and is new and unfamiliar with the language is not a way to run a hospitality business. We will find another place to stay when we return to Visalia. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean but Old"
Have stayed here a few times. First the good points: Although the building is somewhat old, the room was clean, the staff very friendly. Now the bad point: there were alot of College kids staying, or were around, at the Inn that weekend, so it was EXTREMELY loud and noisy duer to room parties, throughout the night. We complained to the front desk staff […] a few times about the partying and noise going on after 11pm, but all the staff did was appoligize and nothing more. As far as we could tell, nothing was ever said to anyone about possibly keeping it down. I felt this was bad for customer service and to the other patrons at the Inn. The next day we heard alot of complaints from other patrons of the Inn, about the noise and that even though they informed the front desk, their complaints were ignored and nothing was done. My company does alot of business down here and, due to these problems, I seriously doubt that I will be recommending the Lamp Lighter Inn, nor be coming back to stay here and just choose another Hotel. "Not worth it"
I stayed here on a cold December night. The ancient climate control in the rooms has no thermostat. The powerful heater is either on (baking) or off (freezing). The front desk recommended leaving the heater on and cracking a door to compensate (yeah, right.) Lamest climate control I have experienced in many years. The bathroom had a full-sized space […] for a bathtub, about 3 by 6 feet, but it was just one giant tiled shower stall. I was ready for a hot bath but couldn't have one. That's lame. The free wi-fi was down more than it was up,. All this at a price that was lower than other nearby nice hotels, but higher than other cheap hotels that probably had bathtubs and working wi-fi and climate control. The building materials and equipment are old and shabby and it's clear the owners haven't invested in any significant upgrades. Ironically, the staff is very nice and the grounds are maintained very well. It's like putting a dress on a pig, though. This place is unacceptable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

For the money this is a great place. The garden was wonderful and we would go back. This is not a 5 star hotel so if you are looking for cheap but want a wine experience this is not for you. "Great place to stay"
I stayed at Lamp Liter Inn for one night. I had an interview the next morning in the city and this inn was a great place to stay. Check in was very easy, the staff was very nice and helpful, parking was good, and it was a quiet place to get a good nights sleep. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. My room had two doors which was nice because […] we could bring our luggage in through the back door, which was closer to the parking lot, and at the same time we had a front door facing the pool and garden area. I did not get a chance to try the food and the nearby Grill because I did not have time to but I was given information about it just in case I may want to go (which was helpful). 45 minutes from visitor center of Sequoia National Park. Right next to highway 198. This motel was in little city of Visalia. Price was right and seemed like it would be less rustic than lodges closer to the Park (my destination). That said, floors (especially carpet) were not very clean. Staff not very friendly. And most importantly, air conditioning […] was not working. It was a warm couple of days in October, so it got stuffy in there, especially after a day of hiking. Hot air was coming out even though I had it set on 'cool'. The staff person I asked about this upon my departure said it was not really an individually-controlled system, though it could be turned on and off in the rooms. In other words, when the hotel decides its cool enough outside, your only choice is heat. Difficult to sleep. Too noisy from the highway for opening windows. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Back to the Past"
This property is positively charming. The Lamp Lighter was obviously the jewel of the 1960's. The garden rooms must be experienced to fully appreciate. I loved this place. Rooms are CLEAN and have been updated with tile, carpet, furnishings and paint. My shower head was the best! Like standing under a waterfall. Room service was prompt with a menu for […] all tastes. Sitting on the bench outside my room with the gardens spread out before me was heaven. A total flash back to a slower period of life without giving up any of 2013's gadgets. Safe and secure and VERY private, QUIET. I will admit the beds could use upgrading. I plan on staying four time a year when I visit Visalia. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I conduct fieldwork in Sequoia National Forest, and every time I've come down during field season I have stayed at the Lamp Liter Inn. I have stayed at the Lamplighter many times, some for extended days. The Lamplighter is still a great value, convenient and well maintained even with its age. We enjoyed the grounds very much, lovely setting. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, we wished they had real heaters though. Hotel is on a chiller system, meaning you turn on the fan, and the air, whether cold or warm (cold in our case) filters through the whole wing of building. To warm room up, you turn the fan off and wait for […] the coolness to fad away. Bring an extra blanket and you'll be fine though. :-) We would stay here again, if we are over that way.
