This was definitely the high point of our trip: a charming room right above the Patzcuaro square. Attentive innkeepers, lovely patio with complimentary... evening cocktail where one meets other guests, library, interesting breakfast, delicious dinner, impeccable honesty (we managed to leave our passports and cash in the in-room safe -contents of which were carefully preserved by the manager). The hotel was great; the room was on the square and partying went on all night so we couldn't sleep. Heard from cab driver that this is an every week-end occurence. When you book, ask for a room off the square.

We stayed at this hotel during Xmas holidays. It is very well located, you can walk to all the main plazas in Patzcuaro, it has a very nice view of the downtown plaza. Service is very good as well, all the staff is very friendly and willing to help. An absolutely charming, historic hotel on the most beautiful square in the town. The hotel provides lots of little extras: a fridge for guests to use, lots of bottled water, tea and coffee in the evening. We had a very relaxed time in Petzcuaro thanks to the location of Hotel Iturbe which is located right on the main town square. The various art and craft stores are all within two blocks of the hotel including the cathedral and central market. . The price of our room which included breakfast was very reasonable. It sits facing the middle of one of the most beautiful squares we have encountered in Mexico. The staff are wonderfully helpful and accomidating, and altho they speak very little English (we regrettably speak even less Spanish) we managed to arrange bus and taxis, find lost objects, and generally get along very well. Our room (#8) had a small private […] deck overlooking the small courtyard. Most of the others had small balconeys and either side or front views of the square but would be somewhat noisey. There is a seculed smallish courtyard, a second floor sundeck/patio area, and a good sized reading room off the sundeck. The street level bar, cafe and restraunt are pleasant and good quality/value. It has an authentic, lovely, graceful, quintessentially Mexican feel aboutg it, because it IS all of those things. The art and the artifacts scattered about make it look/feel like a small private gallery. Read more
