Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Consigliato. Ci tornerei.Genuine Expedia guest review
Room itself a little bit shabby and oldish, especially bathroom. Bed duvet dirty :-( with open sheets...not so convenient. Never though had a hotel with so functional housekeeping service. The outside of the hotel looked really nice and also the lobby, but the room was very old and worned, the spa and pool at the hotel was closed for maintenance and the room had no heating function as it was very cold in the room I had to ask for a electrical heater... only one electrical outlet in the room so when connecting the heater I had to disconnect […] the minibar... Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Genuine Expedia guest review
Genuine Expedia guest review

"Low quality hotel in a convenient location"
09/18/14 Gmjj345 San Francisco, California
Stayed at the Empire hotel recently to attend an event, was not expecting much due to the mixed reviews. Unfortunately, the negative reviews were almost right on the money. However, there were some positive aspects also. So I am summarizing the pros and cons as follows: Pros: 1. Convenient location: walking distance to the convention center and MTR stations 2. Free newspaper 3. Walking distance to a lot of neighborhood shopping, including Welcome and Watson's, Cosmos bookstore 4. Free shuttle to MTR airport station right outside the hotel. Cons: 1. Housekeeping: Dirty floors, furniture and bathroom, mildew, poor air quality overall, towels were very thin. We generally wipe down the furniture, bathroom etc with disinfectant wipes every time we check into a hotel and the wipes came out dark gray - enough said. 2. Food: Breakfast was included in our rate - but the hotel deserved the award for the most unimaginative menu ever. We had the same items in the breakfast buffet every single day for 5 days, reminiscent of ground hog day! 3. Unreliable concierge: who did not seem to know how to help us with transportation. Could not think outside the box. Case in point, suggesting that we hail a passenger van to attend a dressy event instead of paying extra to the taxi or limo driver. 4. Small rooms: Could not even turn around in the bathroom. Will not recommend the hotel for families, or people with allergies.
"Average hotel in a quite convenient area"

Stayed at The Empire Hotel Wan Chai during the HKTDC Food Expo in HK. During check in, the receptionist ask us to wait for 15 mins for our room to be ready. After waiting for 30mins, she still has not revert back on the room. So I had to ask another receptionist then was given the room. Was given a room in the 15th floor. The room and bathroom was acceptable (reasonably clean) but the corridor stinks. I didn't quite like the duvet for the bed. It was uncomfortable. In a city that never sleeps, noise (pub music) can still be heard from my floor at 1am. About 10 mins walk from the Convention Centre and less than 5 mins walk from Wan Chai MTR station. The hotel location is pretty convenient. Breakfast buffet was ok also. Not a wide spread of choices but it has the basics of a good breakfast. Always go for their congee with the salted vege. Overall, average hotel.
"Dirty, smelly, noisy, mildew, ... just gross!"
09/02/14 the_flying_sheep Hong Kong, China
At first sight the hotel looked great (grand lobby). But when I entered my room I was immediately overwhelmed by the smell of mildew. The room was overall dirty: dust everywhere, the curtains had not been washed in ages, fungus everywhere in the bathroom, weird drain with running water next to the toilet, etc. To top it all of: I had booked a room with a “view on the city”, the hotel’s USP. I had a view on a brick wall. Some view… When I went to check what had gone wrong at the reception, they claimed I had one of the nicer rooms. When I turned around they started laughing behind my back… The next day I tried again at the reception. I got a new room at the 15th floor. Granted, the view was better. But the smell! Oh that smell!! There was a very pungent smell. The room REEKED of mildew. It was just horrendous. And this bathroom was worse than the first one; smellier and more fungus! Didn't think that was possible... Other features: bad breakfast (rock-hard croissants), really friendly neighbors (it’s located in the red-light district), … One advise: do not book this hotel! It’s long past its prime. They’ve tried to camouflage it by having a grand lobby, but when you go up a couple of levels it is just a sad, rundown, smelly building.

The hotel is perfectly located in Wan Chai area, very close to the Convention centre, local market, shopping street and MRT. My room was small but it was large enough for me. If you are in town for business and looking for a place on Wan Chai. I recommend this hotel.
"Tired, overpriced hotel"
08/10/14 PerthGail Perth, Australia
I stayed here for 7 nights in July while attending a conference at the HKCC after booking online and paying in full before I arrived. Check-in was fine and I was shown to a 'Club Room' on the 18th or 19th floor. The room was small and air-con virtually non-existent in 33 degree heat and 90% humidity. While there had been some sort of refurbishment it was still very shabby and the gap between bathroom vanity and wall was about 1cm which had been filled with grout. I stayed one night and complained to the duty manager in the morning asking the price of a room upgrade. The duty manager was very personable but explained that this was the best room!! I insisted that I'm sure they could do better, that my air-conditioning didn't work and that it would be hard to work for the week in HK with no sleep. He promised that he would find me a better room with working air-con when I returned that afternoon. True to his word I was relocated to a higher floor (20 I think) and the room was definitely a little larger and bathroom finished to a much higher standard however air-con still barely worked even though temp set to minimum and fan speed highest setting. I slept with ear plugs every night. View into the sides of other buildings but I wasn't expecting harbour views. The Club facilities are a bit of a joke but at least the air-con did work and there is free wifi for 'Club' guests. One red and one white wine available and poured on asking (not left out to help yourself). One night my colleague asked for another glass (only her 2nd) and told that no, they had run out of wine (and we were the only guests in the Club!). We protested and ask that the Duty Manager be contacted to find some more wine. Three types of nibbles although none even remotely exciting. Club staff friendly. No Club breakfast, you eat with everybody else in a dank, soulless space with minimal variety. Gym a total joke - two stationary bikes, one broken. Air-con as bad there are in the guest rooms. Overall, although well located I thought this hotel was expensive for what it was and the Club facilities are a joke. Having stayed in HK at least half a dozen times before this would be the worst hotel I've stayed at. If you're ok with a tourist class hotel in the middle of a bustling part of HK it's probably OK. I prefer a bit of comfort and this did not provide that AT ALL. You can do much better for the same price and I would not stay here again.

Really, the only good thing was the location of this hotel. It is close to everything -- the shops, the Wan Chai station, the Ding Ding station, and the Convention Center. Other than that, it was a big disappointment. Arriving at the address, I nearly missed the entrance of the hotel since its sign is so small and so well concealed, as if it really doesn't want to be found. The front door is located on the small street at the side, not an obvious place at all. During the check in, I requested a room in a higher floor, but they totally ignored my request and gave me a room on the seventh floor facing an even taller building so that basically left us with no view of the city at all. Rooms are small, even smaller than the other rooms that you can get for the same price range. Can be very noisy at night due to the bars downstairs. Service is no good either. Called the front desk twice to ask if there was a plug converter, but no one picked up. They only gave us one key card, which was really problematic so it forced us to have to meet up outside before heading back together. Overall, it was not what I was expecting for the price I was paying. Would not come back again.
"trapped in a time worp"

after travelling 22 hours arrived at the Empire Wanchai hotel having booked on the net and used my visa-card for the booking. The large marbled reception area had the air-con turned to deep freeze levels due to the 35C and 90% humidity. This was the ONLY WELCOME THING ABOUT THIS PROPERTY.Reservations staff were rude and unfriendly did not want to take my Diners Card saying card faulty(it wasn't as i had used it for 3 days prior to arrival at hotel). The room was not ready at 2pm and was told come back later room not ready, no apology. Finally found a seat in the lobby which has no atmosphere and not enough seating areas. The building from outside looks like just another anonymous grey building, and the inside not much better. My room 1510, on 15th floor was devoid of any colour and rather drab, not even a painting on the wall. The wall paper was peeling on the right hand side of the bed, and some child had scribbled in pencil on the wallpaper and this had not been removed. the air-con duct had been repaired at some stage and the plaster around it was all crumbly. The bathroom ceiling had mould , and the liquid soap dispenser had stained the floor tiles as it continued to drip. No fancy decent smelling mini soaps provided. No help from bell captain with luggage and not told that to activate lift had to swipe room card for activation, as i rode up and down with my bags. The restaurant in basement was just as unwelcoming and after standing 10 minutes waiting to be seated, still ignored and walked out to one across the road from hotel. The hotel smelt musty , the ceilings are low, no windows in the passages, and the circulating air-fragrance diff-users at the lifts did little to mask the odour.. This property has the look and feel of a 50s style hotel, and is used mainly for Chinese tour groups. etc. Had the impression that KWAILO foreigners are not to welcome here. I choose this hotel for its proximity to the H.K. convention centre for a fair I attended. Stayed 5 nights 18th-23rd June. and paid $5410 H.K. APPROX $3920 U.S. no breakfast, plus 10% service charge.Would not recommend this hotel to anyone as there are better choices in the area with similar rates

Located in Wanchai, this hotel is closed to everything. Easy for public transport (with its own stop for the airport shuttle), nice restaurants and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre just three minutes away. It is a good value for money. Just note that your are in the red-light district...
