"Mendocino: Magical place, spectacular views"
The staff was great, the complimentary breakfast at the Inn was delicious - among other thinks: chicken apple sausage, home made wholewheat hazelnut bread and yummy coffee. The rooms were beautiful, especially in the Suites where we were, about 4 blocks from the main house. Comfy robes are provided for use during your stay but you have the option of buying. Huge shower/bath, fireplace, private terrace. In sum: awesome.

"Charming Mendocino inn"
At check-in we were surprised to find that our room was in another facility several blocks from the main hotel. We drove there and found our room, but there was no obvious staff there to welcome us or make us feel secure. Use of the hot tub was out of the question for us as we'd have had to drive back to the main hotel for that. Room and bed were comfortable. The included breakfast was very good, but we were unpleasantly surprised that we were charged for the juice that was offered. The person at the first floor desk was quite short with me when I asked if I could leave our room key with her rather than going upstairs to give it to the hotel clerk. We did make a reservation for dinner at the restaurant and had one of the best meals we've ever eaten!

"comfort in Mendocino"
The Mccallum suites were perfect for a girls' getaway as the room was large with 2 queen beds. Beds were ultra comfortable and the bathroom was tricked out with granite and a jetted tub. The suites are a short walk from the main property. The breakfasts offered at the Mccallum house are gourmet and beautifully presented. Would I stay there again? Absolutely.

"Main hotel is good, but secondary location is terr"
It seems that booking here is a dice roll between the gorgeous main location and a horrible secondary location about a mile away. If there was a way to choose or know in advance, I'd book here again, but if you get the wrong location, you won't know until you get there, and if the hotel is full then you're out of luck.

"A wonderful place in a great location."

We stayed at MacCallum House Inn for two days during our recent trip to Mendocino. It is a lovely place, with excellent staff. Our room (a cottage with a private hot tub) was clean and well furnished. Although the cottage is "dog friendly," there was no hint of prior pet guests (no smell; wooden floor rather than rugs, etc). Excellent in-town location where we could park the car on the street and leave it there for our stay, exploring the town by foot. Great food, too. The included breakfasts were delicious, and our dinner there was outstanding. We hope to return.

"The luxary suites are outside of town"
07/28/15 klju Broendby, Denmark
When booking our stay we missed the information that the suites was located 500 meters uphill from the inn. But room #30 has a fantastic view over the Mendocino bay. All day long you can sit on the private balcony and enjoy the pacific waves braking on the cliffs. Complementary breakfast does not include Cafe latte nor orange juice. I find it weird to get an extra bill for the complementary part just to claim gratuity. The maintenance of the building is not luxary standard. Multiple panels and post are missing or rodden. Pieces lying arround in the garden. Free internet. WIFI signal was weak and internet connection very slow.

We absolutely loved our stay at MacCallum. We originally only booked for one night, but liked it so much that we extended for a second, so we stayed in two different rooms. The first night we were in the suites building, which is a quarter mile up the road from the main inn. The building is lovely and we enjoyed looking around the beautiful old dining and living rooms, which are filled with antique decorations and books. The room was huge and spotless. There was a big fireplace, an enormous bathtub and our very own, private hot tub outside! Because we decided to stay at the last minute and our current room was already booked, we had to move to the barn building for night two. This is across the yard from the main inn. The room was a bit smaller, but still clean, cozy and lovely. Also with a huge stone fireplace and an enormous tub in the bathroom. The shampoo products provided by the hotel are divine. We had our little dog with us and he was very welcome as well. This is a lovely, romantic hotel in a magical little town.

"We decided to come back after an awesome stay 4 years previously-still the best"

Second time we stayed here, a little problem on check in but soon ironed out and we enjoyed a very comfortable night in one of the cottage type rooms away from the main property. Dinner was great and the staff were courteous and helpful. Breakfast is always good here too. The bar is well stocked and the hosts try very hard to please. If you want a nice comfortable and friendly place to stop in Mendocino than the Macallum is top of the list.

"Beautiful Inn in Mendocino"
07/05/15 Polly S Brooklyn, New York, United States
Highly recommend this historic, quaint inn located in the heart of Mendocino. Everything is within walking distance though leaving the charming grounds may not be high on your list of priorities. The restaurant is delightful and housed in an incredible space. Nightly specials from pastas, seafood, even a cocktail, make it easy to spend each meal on property. Proprietor Herman is perfectly suited for his role as Mendocino ambassador and was gracious and went above and beyond for us during our 4th of July holiday weekend stay.

"Not so special"
07/02/15 Jane A Richmond, Virginia
We were sadly disappointed at the "luxury" "suite" we booked which was in another area away from the main house. If we could have gotten a refund, we would have left immediately upon setting foot in the place. The carpet was damp and stained, and the room was musty. When we complained, we were told that this was Mendicino, and that is what we should have expected. So, we ended up running a standing room fan that we found in the closet for the entire length of our stay and we used febreeze spray daily in the room. Other than the smell, the room was clean (though small to be advertised as a luxury suite), the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was nice. The housekeeping staff were very kind and responsive to requests. We did enjoy the daily breakfasts - the food was very good each day- and we tried several of the menu items and also the tasting menu for dinner one night. So I can say that the food was consistently good. I do feel that there should have been some way for guests to enjoy the outdoor gardens. There were no chairs or benches in the front yard. The gardens looked nice from the front, but looking down, it was obvious that the gardener had just dropped dead plants behind the taller shrubs rather than disposing of them. Also, when you first drive up to the parking area, the window to the garage is full of cleaning supplies for the limousine housed there. These details are just two of the many that make this place not so special. It's like a Dollar Tree putting a Macys sign outside and thinking that's all they have to do. The details that should set them apart as special are lacking.

"Overgrown B and B"
06/30/15 Eddvca
This place is a B and B masquerading as an inn. For those of you who like that sort of thing, fine. For everyone else who wants privacy and halfway decent service, not so much. They make you select a breakfast time at check in, which one would (wrongly) imagine means you won't wait 45 minutes for improperly cooked eggs while the brats at the table next to you squall (although after 45 minutes I didn't blame them). For reference the Scandinavians at the table next to the squalling brats also had small kids and we heard nary a peep - no wonder people hate Americans. Oh yeah, the rooms are oddly configured and stuffy. Guess that's part of the charm. Meh.

"Poor Vacation Rental House"
06/29/15 california12015 Napa, California
I don't know which is more troublesome: the poor quality of the vacation house or management's lack of responsiveness. The following email was sent to both the inn's Reservations Manager and General Manager with no reply in three weeks from either. "I am writing, unfortunately, to express my group's disappointment in the quality of accommodations provided us at the Ocean Song House, (Room 20) on our stay there June 1st through 3rd. My wife and I have stayed at the MacCallum House Suites on several previous occasions and have been satisfied with the rooms when reserved through Travelzoo, although long deferred maintenance was always obvious. We were however, unprepared on this visit for the poor design and shabby, inadequate furnishing of the Ocean Song House. Worn couches so saggy as to be difficult to get out of, a downstairs bedroom so small as to require that the bed be placed against the wall (I guess one just crawls over one's mate to exit the bed in the middle of the night.) an upstairs bedroom with not so much as a single chair to sit in to dress or apply makeup, a decrepit picnic table outside with only one bench (Where do the other guests sit?) light fixtures with either no light bulb in them or the lightbulb being burned out and a woodstove useless for anything as it is located in the kitchen with no furniture around it are just some of the problems encountered on our visit. I certainly would never recommend Ocean Song House to anyone desiring a pleasant accommodation in Mendocino. The house is a very poor value for the rate charged. I hope that MacCallum House will rectify these problems for the benefit of future guests."

"Mendocino magic"

In past, I have alway stayed in a coastal cabin when in Mendocino, but this time opted for the MacCallum House at the recommendation of a friend. Most coastal lodgings requre a 2-night stay...sadly not possible this trip. We stayed in a MacCallam suite just up the hill from town, a small walk away, and enjoyed quiet, breathtaking views of the ocean and complete luxury, from very comfortable beds to a jetted spa tub. I really enjoyed the accessibility to the towns eclectic mix of live music and excellent food. Breakfast in the charming main house was very good. Love this town, loved the MacCallum House.

"Relaxing Anniversary Trip"
05/27/15 Art C San Francisco, California
This is our second visit to the MacCallum House. Our first visit was five years ago, also for celebrating our anniversary. On our first visit we stayed at the suites which is about a 1/8 mile from the main property. It is easily walkable back into the main part of town. On this trip we decided to stay on the main property where the restaurant is located and a block from the Main Street. We booked room 12. Unfortunately my wife not happy with the room. The front desk was very accommodating and offered us two other choices that were still available. We chose room 32 back up at the suites. Room 32 is the Honeymoon suite. We had a wonderful stay. Breakfast, which is included, was very good. Dinner was also very good. Service from all the staff was excellent.
