Overall it was perfect for our trip to visit a local college. Carol was friendly and customer service was just fine. The beds were comfortable, although a bit squeaky, but it's an old house w/antique furniture - as long as the mattress was comfy, that's what counts at the end of a long drive/day. I usually stay at chain motels in US and have only stayed in a bed-n-breakfast once before in Europe. I was expecting a tv in the bedroom and eggs for breakfast(boiled eggs is okay like the one in Europe), Spruce had neither so I just went to bed at 8pm and left at 7am, not worth waiting around to eat carbs. It should be called a "Bed and Continental […] Breakfast". I thought it was strange when I walked in to check in the lady was laying on the floor playing w/the children and said may I help you but didn't even bother to get up until I told her I was there to check in. This was our first stay at the Spruce Lodge and enjoyed it so much. We would reccommend it strongly to anyone traveling to Lake Placid. It was close, yet far enough away for comfort, to the hustle and bustle of the resort area.

Very centrally locate and room was ok. Can not say anything about the breakfast as it did not begin until 8 AM, after I needed to be gone. Coffee was also not available. People visiting need to like cats and have no allergies to the same, I am not a cat person so this was a little bit of an issue for me, .

I recently stayed at the Spruce Lodge while in town for a wedding. Especially in October with the numerous festivals and changing of the leaves it is a peak time to visit, so surrounding hotels/inns/B&Bs are all well overpriced. For minimal money, I originally didn't set my standards to high, but upon arrival was very impressed for what I got for such […] little money. While the main house is slightly outdated, and reminded me of my grandparents farm house growing up, it was full of old charm and character. The room I stayed in (2) had a very comfortable double bed, dresser, chair, and three windows. The bathroom was very spacious and included a standup shower. I am rather picky when it comes to where I stay, and this B&B was extremely clean, and did not disapoint. Breakfast in the morning was minimal but gave you enough to get your day started. While you can walk right into town (10 minute walk), if you get there early there is plenty of on-street parking. My friends all stayed at various hotels well over overpriced for the night, and they all felt they truly did not get their moneys worth staying. I on the underhand will definately stay at the Spruce Lodge next time I am in town. Read more

It was better than I had anticipated! Clean room, friendly owner, and very close to the downtown area. Walking distance to the Ice rink. We stayed for the half marathon so we were unable to have breakfast but we really enjoyed the location and of course the price!

If all you need is a place to clean up and sleep, this place is ok. But do not be fooled by the charm of a B&B. At best, this is like visiting a relative that you are staying overnight with, in their very tiny guest bedroom. There was nothing charming or quaint about this B&B. Everything was old and probably was first decorated when the 1980 Olympics […] were there. Which oddly enough I remember because I graduated that year and was coming home for 30 yr HS reunion. Bed was lumpy and hard. It was a warm evening so we had to have the windows open- no AC. This place is right next to the road and we heard every vehicle- especially the trucks and motorcycles! We got in late- 11:30pm- and had to call the number to get someone to check us in. I had called a few days prior to let them know it would be late and was told "The guy will leave your key on the desk in a envelope." He didn't. But it was only a moment that we waited for assistance. We were just staying one night and were on way to another town. Prior to arriving here, we had decided that we wanted to be up and out no later than 8am. We awoke (for at least the 100th time) at 6:30am, dressed and hit the road and never looked back! I struggle a bit with this review because there are pluses and minues to this lodge, and my experience was influenced by some unusually hot weather during our stay in Lake Placid. On the positive side: This is an inexpensive place to stay, easy to find, with the character that generally comes with B&B-type lodging. The proprietor was very nice and helpful. […] The room was clean, and the front porch was a nice place to relax and enjoy a book and a cup of coffee. The breakfast was good. On the negative side: The room was cramped as was the stairway to access the room. There is no AC so if the weather is warm, the room can become uncomfortabe. My wife was disappointed in the fact that there were no glasses or plastic cups in the room and no ice bucket. There is no TV in the room--the only TV is in a common area downstairs--but perhaps that should be expected in a B&B. I would be willing to stay there again, but my wife probably would not. The B&B was okay but the info about the room said that there was a shower/tub combination which led me to believe that there was a bath tub BUT there wasn't. All that was there was a shower stall.When I mentioned this to the owner she said she didn't think my info had said that. The breakfast varied but the weekday had less variety than the Sunday.
