We were traveling by bicycle. The Humbolt House was 4min to the Ferry! Cute room, very cozy, with a great mattress! (Edward's Room.) Good breakfast, cleverly served in room. Quiet.Genuine Expedia guest review

Really liked the private breakfast served thru a port into your room. Didn't have to get dressed for breakfast that way.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Good but not quite what we wanted"
This B&B is in very good condition, wall paper and paint all fresh and spiffy. The host was most pleasant and the food was terrific. The real fire place with the lovely Xmas decor on the mantle was charming. Because it was our anniversary we were looking for something exceptional and were willing to pay for it. But alas this didn't quite turn out as […] we had hoped.Having read other reviews we knew in advance that one downfall was that there was no dining room for breakfast and that all breaksfasts came to the room. They were delectable but one reason we like B&B's is the chance to meet other visitors. This is near impossible there. Also the room was very dark in the winter, and although a lovely tub, no shower. And the tub had no privacy - maybe a screen available would help. With the dark lampshades it was impossible to read in bed. I think we just picked a poor room for our needs. It was just not my idea of a B&B from a co-mingling or even chatting with the propriator goes. But good if you want to be left alone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay at the Humbolt"
Squeeky floor and slippery tile to the hot tub bath. The B&B is beautiful inside and out. The bath towels need to be much softer, maybe use a softner when washing. The radio / CD player provided was completely inop. The breakfast food served in the bedroom was outstanding.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place close to everything"
Great place. Rooms are large, and very well maintained. Old European still furniture. Service was good. Didn't have breakfast, which was included., due to my own schedule, but I trust it would have been great. Close enough to walk to all downtown venues. Well worth the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Relaxing & Romantic"
Perfect place for a quiet, romantic getaway with beautiful jacuzzi & out of this world breakfasts! Close enough to downtown to be in the action if you want it, the peace & quiet & beauty of Humboldt house is good for your soul!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for a romantic getaway"
Very romantic B&B with so many special surprises. It is just steps from downtown Victoria which is handy.Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a lovely stay at this B&B, staff was very accomodating and friendly, the gazebo room was airy with a comfortable queen size bed and a large two-person jacuzzi tub. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace as well. It would be an especially nice place to go for a romantic getaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Expedia guest review

"A charming Victorian bed & breakfast."

What an lovely experience! Greeted warmly by David even though we were quite early. Shown in to the Library and offered some homemade cookies and Sherry (which you can help yourself to at any time), then shown up to our quaint room with a comfy queen sized bed, wood burning fireplace and beautiful built-in Jacuzzi tub surrounded by windows. Awaiting us in the room were some homemade truffles and a demi bottle of chilled sparkling wine in the mini-fridge. The foyer is full of all the brochures and current events literature you would need to get familiar with the city and its sights, including a binder with a listing of restaurants and their menus. Humboldt House is conveniently located less than 3 blocks from the harbour, the museum, Parliament buildings, The Empress and downtown. A great location! Breakfast is served to you at your chosen time through a discreet 2-way cupboard in a lovely and well packed picnic basket...and...I can't emphasize this enough...is delicious! We had the West Coast savoury seafood crepes and the Eggs Benedict, amazing! The fresh mini croissants were a real treat. The utmost privacy for an intimate holiday. The little, thoughtful touches like the fireplace being ready to light, extra pieces of firewood, fresh flowers and candles with matches were wonderful. Oh...and even free Wifi and parking in the back! Highly recommended. Go for the Mikado room if your budget allows.

Absolutely loved our stay here. We stayed in the Oriental room because we wanted a King sized bed. Was a little crowded due to the size of the bed but that was fine. Was super impressed with the in room couples massage we had and David was kind enough to accommodate us in one of the empty rooms since 2 massage tables wouldn't fit into our room. One thing I didn't notice from the photos was that there was no shower. I thoroughly enjoyed my bath but my boyfriend really likes his showers so that was the downside for him. The other thing I really enjoyed was breakfast in bed. The food was amazing & they would leave it for you in a box in the wall, so you could just take it out and eat when you were ready.

Beautiful B&B in the heart of the city with exceptional hosts and the most amazing food! Such a warm welcome with gracious hospitality during our entire stay; thank you so much David and Vlasta for making our Victoria stay so memorable. As B&B owners ourselves visiting for our annual conference and having stayed at many B&B's, this was a treat...thank you again!

Great spot in the center of Victoria. Walking distance to many restaurants, activities, inner harbour . David is a master chocolate maker an gives you truffle samples upon check in. Great bed, quiet location. Friendly hosts able to assist you in any way to make your stay in Victoria a memorable one. No doubt about it - Bed and breakfasts at Humboldt house is a better way to stay .
"A great stay!"
I just returned from a 2 night stay at Humboldt House B&B Inn, while attending a conference in Victoria. Innkeepers David & Vlasta are wonderful hosts and very helpful with information. Their location was walking distance to our conference venue, as well as several restaurants we visited, so great for walking there and not having to deal with downtown parking. We lucked out in the weather department as it was absolutely gorgeous weather and Victoria showed itself off with wonderful fall colors and great views. I enjoyed the decadent Jacuzzi all by myself and of course I can't forget their delicious "Terrible Truffles" , some of which came home with me! Thank you David & Vlasta, I look forward to returning.

Ok, we stayed only in this place, so can't really compare :). But it was an absolutely great stay! We arrived in the evening after a long flight and were delighted by the Mikado room. The bubbly wine, the truffles and the breakfast were all delicious, as advertised. The jacuzzi is great, there's a real fireplace and the room decor is very pleasant on the eye. The owner was very welcoming, we could keep our car in the backyard while visiting Victoria and the town is just a few minutes walk away. Totally recommended!

We stayed 2 nights in the Oriental Room; decor a bit kitschy, but not offensively so. We chose it for the King bed, which was supremely comfortable. Fireplace & 2-person Jacuzzi tub - very nice! No TV in room but that is actually a nice touch - we relaxed and hung out and read. A cd player is supplied, but none of the supplied music was really our thing - artists we'd never heard of (mostly jazz/blues) plus Gordon Lightfoot & Johnny Cash. Some classical selections would have been welcome. :-) Next time we'll bring our own CDS. Obviously targetted as a "romantic" room, and it was all of that, Breakfast was excellent; delicious & generous; couldn't finish everything, much as we wanted to. Only a few blocks to the Inner Harbour, and an easy walk to & fro. It was very quiet at night. All in all, a most relaxing stay and a place we will look forward to revisiting. On the upper end of B&B pricing - $219 plus taxes per night for the shoulder season for this room - I think it totalled $240 or so after taxes - but the room, the breakfast, and the atmosphere were worth it. The only disappointment (minor!) was that the delicious chocolate truffles from the first night weren't repeated the second night; we'd commented that we were looking forward to them but sadly no such luck. Maybe it was an oversight? ;-) Overlooking the grounds of St Ann's Academy, now a National Historic Site and open to the public; we walked through the garden and noted that the buildings are open some afternoons; will try to tour them next time.

The location of Humboldt House is enough reason to stay there. Within easy walking distance of the harbor area, it's a nice, personalized alternative to large chain hotels. We chalked up the strange floor plan to "making the most of old architecture" and made sure we were very careful walking up the stairs of the Gazebo Room to the toilet. In-room service of breakfast was charming. (There is no place for a dining room to gather the guests). Service very attentive. We'd definitely stay there again.
"Quiet, lovely home"

Humbolt house is on a quiet, private street in the heart of "downtown" Victoria. The owner was very helpful with arranging our plans even though we changed them last minute because of rain. Of course, the breakfasts are wonderful and I enjoyed the relaxed breakfast in our room. Would definitely return.
"Back In Time"

The Celebration Room was beautiful & quiet! You choose your breakfast plus the time you want it the night before & it's delivered through the dumbwaiter in the morning! The breakfast is inside a picnic basket. The whole experience was awesome except for when the hottub started leaking downstairs but the owner was very prompt & professional. The chocolates & brandy in the old-fashioned crystal decanters all added to having gone back in time! Almost didn't want to leave the room to go sight-seeing!!
