"give yourself some pampering"
The convenient location to downtown Victoria was initially why I selected this hotel. But the 2-person jetted bathtub, fireplace in each room, and breakfast brought to you in the privacy of your room through an enclosed box via a very heavy picnic basket made my husband feel more pampered than he has ever been.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wow, wow and wow!"
We were welcomed with sherry and treats and shown our theme related room. We had a large jucuzzi tub and a working fireplace, laid and ready to light. There was chilled sparkling wine in the frig and a wonderful chocolate truffle. We were given a restaurant recommendation that was very good (Petrocellies?). I was concerned with the traffic noise in […] the room but it was zero soon after 9 p.m. Very quiet and comfortable. Super clean. And then there was breakfast! No sitting in a room with strangers eating 18" away! No! Our breakfast arrived at the room at the appointed time in a large basket. It was extremely well packed. I had eggs benedict, my husband smoked salmon and shrimp crepes. Included was croissants, fruit, coffee, tea, and all was outstanding! Great place period, and definitely great for the price. Walking distance to all of downtown. Super location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful retreat in the center of Victoria"
We were on our honeymoon in Victoria and were looking for that special place that would make our honeymoon even more special. Humboldt House meet, and exceeded, our expectations. The celebration suite was on the main floor, but back at the back of the house. The room was spacious and well furnished. There is a soaking, jetted tub. One of the best features […] was the breakfast. The food and the choices of the meals were fantastic. They have a system that allows you to choose the time for your breakfast and they serve it in the room through a wall unit that allows you to enjoy your meal in privacy. This was a wonderful place for our honeymoon, or any romantic get away. David was a great host and was helpful when we needed him, and gave us our space when we wanted it. "Beautiful high end experience!"
The house is absolutely beautiful! The host is gracious and quite helpful but at the level that allows you to enjoy the romantic weekend. Breakfast in the room is amazing and still private. Truly a gourmet meal, elegant and well made.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great downtown Victoria location"
Good service, very good breakfast, very quiet, all as advertised. Several very nice tourist areas easily within walking distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Lovely B&B in great location close to City centre. The owners were very helpful but also cultivated your privacy. Breakfasts were amazing and delivered to your room in a basket. Crepes and eggs benedict were superb. On arrival my husband & I were shown our room. On the table were 2 glasses each with a home made truffle. A bottle of sparkling wine was […] waiting in the room size refrig. A CD/mp3 player complete with relaxing CDs added to the rooms ambiance. Too warm to use the fireplace in the room, but nice option Easy walking to the harbor, Parliament, shopping and restaurants. Weather was glorious sunny spring. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We were traveling by bicycle. The Humbolt House was 4min to the Ferry! Cute room, very cozy, with a great mattress! (Edward's Room.) Good breakfast, cleverly served in room. Quiet.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Very Good but not quite what we wanted"
This B&B is in very good condition, wall paper and paint all fresh and spiffy. The host was most pleasant and the food was terrific. The real fire place with the lovely Xmas decor on the mantle was charming. Because it was our anniversary we were looking for something exceptional and were willing to pay for it. But alas this didn't quite turn out as […] we had hoped.Having read other reviews we knew in advance that one downfall was that there was no dining room for breakfast and that all breaksfasts came to the room. They were delectable but one reason we like B&B's is the chance to meet other visitors. This is near impossible there. Also the room was very dark in the winter, and although a lovely tub, no shower. And the tub had no privacy - maybe a screen available would help. With the dark lampshades it was impossible to read in bed. I think we just picked a poor room for our needs. It was just not my idea of a B&B from a co-mingling or even chatting with the propriator goes. But good if you want to be left alone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Khalid on humboldt house"
Very great but the one thing that needs a upgrade was the tv. The tv in the room was far to small to watch hockey other then that everything was awesome.Great facility and staff will go back anytimeGenuine Expedia guest review
I absolutely enjoyed my room and all the extras ( double soaker tub, wood burning fireplace and cozy bedding. On top of it all the fresh homemade bread with breakfast in the morning! The only one thing that I didn't like was the squeaky floor near the sink. But remember you are in a beautiful character style home. A wonderful place to stay in the heart […] of Victoria!! :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Character and more"
From the wood burning fireplace and champagne to the most amazing breakfast basket, this was more than we had hoped for. Sit in the Jacuzzi tub, sip on champagne, nibble on truffles and watch a roaring fire...all this and more at the Humboldt Hotel! Can't wait to return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Romantic anniversary getaway!"
The Celebration Room at the Humbolt House Bed and Breakfast was so elegant and romantic it took a while to soak it all in. From the lace curtains framing the top of the bed, the double jacuzzi, the wood burning fireplace, to breakfast being served in a basket through a little portal in the wall, my husband and I were delighted. Not only would I recommend […] this to family and friends, we're booking again soon for our next anniversary. Don't miss this romantic getaway, right in the heart of Victoria. "Great place close to everything"
Great place. Rooms are large, and very well maintained. Old European still furniture. Service was good. Didn't have breakfast, which was included., due to my own schedule, but I trust it would have been great. Close enough to walk to all downtown venues. Well worth the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very romantic B&B with so many special surprises. It is just steps from downtown Victoria which is handy.Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a lovely stay at this B&B, staff was very accomodating and friendly, the gazebo room was airy with a comfortable queen size bed and a large two-person jacuzzi tub. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace as well. It would be an especially nice place to go for a romantic getaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Expedia guest review

A superb place to spend the night, just a few rooms, WiFi , clean and pretty quiet (city noises), off street parking and a delicious individually made breakfast delivered to your room at your choice of time, outstanding!
"Simply the best B&B I've ever stayed at."
11/17/14 Alan J Seattle, Washington, United States
This B&B is absolutely fantastic. The breakfast is unbelievable. I had the eggs benedict both days we stayed there. We stayed in the gazebo suite and we spent a good amount of time in the room because it was so fantastic! It's also within a couple blocks of all the neighborhood amenities. If you like B&B's, this place is a must!
"A "Must Stay" Place in Victoria!"

My partner, myself and our adult kids stayed at the Humboldt House B&B a few weekends ago. We were all so very impressed with every aspect of this awesome B&B. The service was amazing (Thank you David) The breakfast was delicious (Thank you David) the rooms were tastefully decorated and very romantic! Everything we needed was at our fingertips ... Sparkling wine and yummy truffles upon our arrival. Was a short walk to the Harbor and local attractions, David was a gracious host our entire stay and kindly extended our check out time AND took care of our luggage while we went to some of the locals attractions after check out but during our wait for our flight home. .. I definitely recommend the Humboldt House B&B!!!
"Excellent Weekend at Humboldt House"
09/29/14 HoratioQM Seattle, Washington
My wife and I stayed two nights in the Garden Suite at the Humboldt House. We had a great time. The room is recently renovated and nicely furnished. We loved the private back entrance, as it made it very easy to come and go. Breakfasts were delicious (our favorite was the eggs benedict), and David's Terrible Truffles were terrific; we even purchased a couple of boxes to take home. David was a great host who helped us get our Butchart Gardens tickets and provided a lot of helpful information. We could have stayed at a cheaper hotel, but the experience we had at Humboldt House (in addition to its extremely convenient location) made it well worth it. Highly recommended.
"Romantic B & B"
09/02/14 Steve G
My bride and I were looking for a place to enjoy the first days of our marriage, in other words, to honeymoon. We wanted to have a place that would be romantic, quiet, and close to fun attractions that we could go and enjoy. The Humboldt House is a perfect place and we are so glad we found it. David is a wonderful host and provides all the services you want and then disappears without providing services you have not asked for. A perfect blend of service and privacy! The food was marvelous and this B & B serves your food to your room through a dumbwaiter that allows for complete privacy. We hope to go back and enjoy the Humboldt House on our anniversaries.

The other reviews are right: this is a great place to stay, only a few blocks from the inner harbour. David, the innkeeper, really knows how to please his guests and run a good inn. I stayed for two nights in Edward’s room, which has a jacuzzi tub, and a fireplace. Note: this tub may be difficult for some people to climb in and out of, because it is elevated. Although the room faced the street, I found it quiet enough, even with the windows open Breakfasts are superb. They are taken in the room. I would have preferred meeting other guests at breakfast, but there is a front parlour where you might meet someone else.
"Immaculate, luxurious Victorian B&B"
08/25/14 LavanRose San Jose, California
The Humboldt House is a beautifully restored, well-maintained Victorian decorated with antiques and period furnishings. It's in a very quiet location a few blocks from downtown and Beacon Hill Park. A delicious gourmet breakfast is delivered privately to each room, with a choice of three or four menu items and at your choice of time (within a window of an hour and a half or so). A small parlor at the front of the house is available with sherry and cookies, books and tourism information. My husband and I stayed in the "Celebration Room" at the back of the house. It is decorated in romantic, frilly pastel colors and has a jacuzzi tub in the room. It was spacious, very quiet and private. Currently the building is for sale so the business may be under new management. I hope the new owners keep things as they are because it is just about perfect.

Firstly, I was saddened to see a 'For Sale' sign out front. Hosts were lovely, gave us ideas on restaurants, and the truffles we ordered were the best we have ever eaten. Breakfasts were huge and perfect, as was our room. We stayed in the Edward Room at the front upstairs of the inn. Street noise was not a problem at all and the views were great. You cannot beat the location. Room was very clean and well appointed. Loved it.

My husband and I stayed at Humboldt for two nights during our travels around BC. I cannot praise this place enough. Really friendly hosts and I loved the quirky features - for example the port and biscuits in the sitting/reception room (delicious by the way). The room was lovely and absolutely spotless. The huge Jacuzzi bath and welcoming mini bottle of fizz with two truffles were a real treat (we had the celebration room). Don't leave without buying some 'terrible truffles'. They certainly made us terrible - we bought some as gifts, but demolished the lot soon after purchase! Highly recommend this place.
"Very very cozy"
08/09/14 Jaeden R Vancouver, Canada
We stayed in the Mikado room, but next time I think we will go Windsorian. The entire experience was exceptional. Sherry and delicious homemade baking in the front parlour for socializing with other guests if you so choose. Local phone calls can be made here and there are directories of Victoria amenities if you need them. Our room was meticulously and beautifully decorated in the Japanese motif, the jacuzzi is so much larger than it looks in the photos and there is a Japanese wall slide panel over the window allowing for opening so the hot air can be released, or closed for added privacy. There is even an in-suite fireplace for winter visits and rainy nights. The breakfast menu was absolutely delicious and felt like a private indoor picnic. They thought of everything and somehow managed to make it all fit into the picnic basket. It was then delivered through a small cubby at the time of our choosing so that you can enjoy it privately with your partner, and not have to dress for other guests. There is a tiny bar fridge to chill your white wine and truffles for storage for later, towels and bathrobes were provided, so you don't have to pack those, and if you book the Windsor suite, there is a small deck off the hall on same level so you can have your coffee outdoors in the sunshine. You arrive to the welcome of sparking wine and truffles made by a chocolatier, it's heavenly! About 3 blocks walk from the seaplane inner harbour, away from all the noise on the waterfront strip, yet close enough to walk to all the action. Great hosts. reasonably priced and a great spot. See you again next year, I hope.
