Stoney Creek Inn Des Moines - Johnston

We found the motel exceptionally comfortable, clean and accommodating. We loved the woodsy theme. We had an issue with the bathroom shower faucet, which got worse thru our 3 day stay. This was honestly our only complaint. Wouldn't hesitate to book and stay again and plan on it in the near future.

I loved the northwoods cabin ambiance throughout the Stoney Creek Inn from the moose outside to the scent of cinnamon wafting in the halls. Staff were very accomodating as our reservation got messed up and they put my co-worker and I in a room with 1 bed but I'd booked a room with 2 beds, they switched us with no problems or complaints. OUTSTANDING HOTEL

We loved the pool, and the room that wasn't like every other hotel room you see. The only issue was a slow moving shower drain, and the shower head could have been better. Hot breakfast included, fresh made cookies, crib. So good. Too bad it's too far to go without the kids. :)

Very professional staff. Very friendly atmosphere. Nice to have an hour to swim as an adult with out all of the kids being in the pool. Would definitely stay here again.

Our girls {8 and 5} loved the indoor/outdoor pool! There was nothing like swimming outside with snow on the ground! Breakfast was GREAT! Hotel lobby and rooms were clean and we had no complaints. Loved having the hotel next door to a movie theater for date night! We will be back!

Very rustic facility with all the logs and stick furniture. Rooms was very clean, Whirlpool in pool area was great and the breakfast was very good.

This hotel was very nice. The room was spacious and comfortable. Very Satisfied. Very clean. Stay for 2 days and all linens where replaced. Will definetley stay again. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Give it a 5 star rating. A very safe and comfortable neighborhood.

Fun place to stay - especially with the grandchildren. The hotel, rooms, and pool are bear/nature themed. Pool water was nice and warm. Has a large hot tub. We were hoping for a full breakfast but were satisfied with the biscuits and gravy, hard-boiled eggs, and cereal. Staff was very friendly. Hotel was clean. Would recommend.

I LOVED the room, it was perfect for my husband and I to "get away, and get to know each other again". My only issue was that I feel the room was Way OVERPRICED..

This is a place we choose for a weekend getaway with a Northwoods feel. Close to many restaurants and a theater within walking distance. Very warm and cozy feeling. Very helpful staff!

This is our 2nd year staying at Stoney Creek and we love the pool and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast was nice as well!

This hotel was very nice-had a different feel too it with the woodsy/outdoor style. Very friendly staff, great morning breakfast, and the pool was very nice. I would highly recommend this location to anyone staying in this area.

Location isn't very good in terms of being close to stuff. The exit this hotel is on is sort of like any other along an interstate - a few gas stations, a grocery store, a few restaurants. Not really centrally located in terms of activities. There is a movie theater near-by though, which is nice. This didn't bother me though, as I was looking for a […] quiet place away from the hustle and bustle, which this hotel is. The rooms are slightly dated in terms of decor. But everything is clean and comfortable. I personally like the feel of the place, but some might consider it a little corny, as the theme is very "outdoorsy". Read more

Both my husband & I enjoyed our stay and the other two couples who were with us all were impressed with the overall decor and cleanliness of the rooms. I ended up taking home the little skunk who complimented the woodland theme of our room.

I wish I could stay at a Stoney Creek everywhere I went. Their properties are amazing.

Stayed here for our wedding with many family and friends. Nothing but compliments and good experiences all around. Everything was as expected and went very well. Would stay here again and recommend to anyone.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. We were very happy with the accommodations.

The excercise room could use some updating with the equipment.

I am not sure why this only has a 2* rating, as in my book it is at least 4* I love this place! I always stay here on business or pleasure. I feel like I am on vacation up north! Have stayed here several times--wouldn't say it's a 2-star, probably a bit better. Cute woodsy design (more upnorth Minnesota), comfortable accomodations, nice indoor/outdoor pool. Good family hotel. Lots to do in the area--movie theater and many restaurants.

I had never used this hotel before and I have stayed in many hotels in Des Moines, IA. We got there and the front desk lady was not very friendly. I tried to be nice and she was going to have no part of that! Later on in the night we ordered a pizza and I went down to ask for plates and napkins. She was very bothered by the fact that we were asking […] her to work. Later the next morning as we were packing up our stuff we found a used fork and some dirty socks on the floor that were not ours. Not sure the room was very clean. Very beautiful furnishings. Staff was friendly and courteous. We had family with us and they LOVED the BREAKFAST that was FREE! The breakfast staff was very friendly and made sure the areas were clean and ready for guests. We enjoy Stoney Creek Inn here and in Sioux City!!!!

This Hotel is so cozy and beautiful. It is decorated in a woodsy, log cabin type theme. It is immaculate! It is very well maintained and the staff is very knowledgable and helpful. This motel was a wonderful getaway for us. We were in town visiting some relatives at their home and enjoyed having them visit us here as well. The beds were very comfy and housekeeping excellent. Front desk answered questions promptly and we got a great deal courtesy of Hotels.com. The pool area was lots of fun and the pool temperature was comfortable. […] Our grandchildren loved the moose standing out front in the goldfish pond. We didn't get to try out the breakfast because we were called away in the middle of the night to an emergency at home. We hope to be able to return sometime in the future. Read more

We had a WONDERFUL stay at the Stoney Creek Inn in Johnston, IA. The hotel is great with its "northwood cabin" themed rooms. The staff is fabulous; they go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They have added a complementary hot breakfast for guests, and cereal, bagels, yogurt, waffles, muffins etc are also available. They […] also provide coffee and a variety of juices as well. Hotel had large variety of rooms that made it nice for different families to choose from. Wish they had a larger pool area but it was good to have indoor/outdoor pool.

This hotel appeared to be very unique, very nice, clean, good service, good value, good breakfast. However when I opened the door I immediately smelled a wet towel/animal smell. The room looks so new and clean I really don't know why it sticks. I smelled everywhere and found that it is the bathroom floor that has the smell. The floor is vinyl hardwood […] floor pattern. I think perhaps the flooring material wants to mimic the damp wood smell? It's too bad that this hotel is nice but I would not go back because of the smell. Read more

We stayed 4 nights. Hotel looks nice and is conveniently located, but nothing special. The room was comfortable, but lacked a closet (just a hanging rack) and had poor lighting and limited seating and desk/dresser space. The location should be quiet, but the first two nights we were seriously disturbed by a crowd of unruly Little Leaguers and their […] adult coaches and parents who let them run wild in the corridors, bounce things off the walls, and talked noisily in the hall themselves until almost midnight. They didn't quiet down until we called hotel security, but then some teens or adults talked loudly in the hall until 1:30 the next night. After this crowd left on Sunday, the last 2 nights were peaceful, but we learned Little League groups come every 2 weeks. Also, the hotel breakfast was the least satisfactory we've ever had.
