Overall this hotel is simply OK. It's older and desperately need updating. There are a number of maintenance issues that don't appear to be addressed. (I had to fix both our TV and our toilet while staying here). The staff seem friendly and helpful. Apparently if you do not specifically request room service by hanging out the sign that says "service […] please" the house keeping staff will not service your room until very late in the day. We had to pass on the service because we were all busy cleaning up from the beach. So all that said, we paid twice what I would normally pay for such a hotel. So what are you getting for the money? Location, location, location. We probably should have stayed out on the strip but it was a busy weekend and didn't want to be bothered with public parking. There isn't a better location for a hotel and the boardwalk pool is the best and only in town. Missed the hot tub, though. Location is excellent. Hotel has free chairs and umbrellas to take to the beach which is very nice. Hotel needs updating much like most on the boardwalk. They probably don't need to put any money into it since their location is so desirable. The staff at the Atlantic Sands were all very friendly and pleasant. I did ask for a maintenance man to come to my room (345) and oil the hinges as it was very squeaky when the door opened and closed. This was a real problem with a young baby sleeping. "Poor customer service"
After checking in and carrying all our luggage to our room, we discovered our room had a view of the parking lot and not an oceanview. We were told that the room we reserved was not available so the hotel "down graded" our room without any prior notification. After much complaining, the hotel offered us a room with an ocean view but no balacony and […] told us we would be responsible for any additional cost. Not acceptable customer service. Expedia assured us we would not be responsible for any upgrade cost. Truly feel the hotel did a bait and switched scam. Communication with the staff was poor. When asking any questions only got half the information. For example: asked where the ice machine was located. Was told the fourth floor but was not told we would need our room key to access it. Results: two trips to get ice. Ask if coffee was available in the morning. Was told yes, right in front but was not told she was referring to the coffee shop and not the lobby. Poor communication thru out staff. However the cleaning staff was excellent and accommodating of all our needs. "Desperately Needs Updating"
For a prime location, owners have not kept it up to date. Baths are inserts to cover up old baths and the low bath ceilings are drop in tile ceilings. Old faucets, sinks and cabinets. The hallway carpet screams that it has seen way to many teen beach weekends. The old tiny elevator works but looks a bit scary to enter. The pool looks lovely on the boardwalk. […] The Front Desk staff is not familiar with the local restaurants and had not heard of Blue Moon right down the street for excellent dining. This place seems to have been built in the 1940's. The room is cramped by too many beds in the room. To use the desk you have to pivot the chair sideways sit down and pivot in. There isn't room to slide the chair out. But you probably won't be using the desk because you won't be able to connect to the WIFI. After 2 trips to the front desk I gave up. […] The only place I could get reception was in the lounge. Right where I want to conduct buisiness. The day I left, the elevator was out of service. No signs alerting you to this, push the button and wait, no I don't hear it moving. Hump your luggage down the staircase which goes around the elevator, so down one flight, then around the hall to the next staircase. The conference room has outlets around the wall, so forget about using your laptop unless you are one of the lucky few or you have a spare battery. I Booked this hotel because of its Spa and restaurant for a Surprise Weekend on my Wife's 50th Birthday. After arriving, we were told everything was closed for construction. "Hotel needs alot of repairs"
I made the reservation for ocean front, we were given last room in the back and they could not fix this. The room was run down with large brackets on the wall where a picture should be. The heating system was stuck on 80 degrees and when maintenance was called they said they were having the same problem with all of the rooms. The tough part was the […] windows didn't open. A feeling of not being safe due to the elevator across from our room could be accessed from the outside with no key card needed. When we went to leave there was a car parked in a no parking area making it very difficult to get out of our parking spot. It took us 5 tries to get out of our spot. When we told the front desk their response was "yeah we know its been there since yesterday" with no help in this situation. The restaurant and bar were not longer open and the gym wasn't there anymore either. We did call Hotels.com and they could give us a small voucher to use in the future but could not help us any further than that. This was after talking to a manager as well. As an educational consultant, I have traveled, and continue to travel, a lot. My wife and I wanted to stay close to the beach in Rehoboth, DE. This hotel needs complete renovation; they are "resting on their laurels" in that their location in proximity to the beach is an excellent one. The overall hotel is nice. It's right on the boardwalk and beach, and walking distance from town, which is an overall plus. Our room was not so clean. The bed skirt had some kind of icky stain on it. The carpet had popcorn -though we never ate it during our trip. The rooms appeared to have been updated, and they reinstalled new curtains and rods, but […] never spackled the old holes. The micro fridge froze ALL of our food, and there was no dial to adjust the temperature- it was broken. The price of this hotel room was way more than many other places I could have stayed but it came recommended by a friend, so we decided to stay there. It was NOT worth the cost. I won't stay here again the next time I come to Rehoboth. There was no continental breakfast included, and for the price of a night, I would have expected SOMETHING. Breakfast buffet was expensive.. We passed. The Outdoor eatery was ok for lunch. My burger was not cooked the way I asked, and my friend's veggie wrap was tasteless. The waitress was barely polite. She sneered when I asked a question and walked around with an attitude. When I asked if there was a restroom, she pointed and said, "over there." Overall pretty negative experience there.
