Located on the penthouse level of the hotel, Spa Vitale offers massages in three treatment rooms with water views and outdoor deep soaking tubs. An urban oasis with spectacular city and water views including a dramatic view of the Bay Bridge, this San Francisco spa will nurture and revitalize guests seeking a fresh approach to spa services and a once-in-a-lifetime bathing ritual experience in an urbane setting.

Americano Restaurant - A lighthearted ambience prevails at this street-level fine-dining restaurant. The open kitchen serves Italian cuisine with a California influence. Menu items might include halibut carpaccio, pizzas, fresh pasta, grilled tuna with sweet peas and shoots, or grilled New York steak stuffed with trumpet mushrooms. Restaurant is separated by curtains from its circular bar, popular with locals after work; alfresco dining is offered on the patio facing the Embarcadero. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, and brunch on weekends.
This hotel has a penthouse spa (surcharge) offering health and beauty treatments, including massage in individual or couples treatment rooms. In-room massages are also available. Twice-daily yoga sessions are offered in the hotel's rooftop studio. Guests have complimentary access to the YMCA one block away, which has fitness equipment and a swimming pool.
The Embarcadero, across the street from the hotel, offers running, cycling, and in-line skating paths, and is the departure point for fishing and sightseeing excursions on the bay. The hotel overlooks Justin Herman Plaza, which has a children's playground. Kayaking and sailing are possible on San Francisco Bay (concierge has details). The bulls and bears of industry tread the streets of the Financial District, home to the city’s tallest buildings, including the iconic Transmerica Pyramid. The towers give way to The Embarcadero, the broad, palm-lined avenue that begins at the San Francisco Giant’s AT&T Park and ends at Fisherman’s Wharf. The road passes by the Ferry Building, a landmark transformed into an artisanal food market.

"Great experience again from a repeat customer"
Went back early Jan for an annual business/pleasure trip and had consistently wonderful experiences here. For my second time, everything was great and I noticed and remembered many of the staff (from the bell, housekeeping, front desk etc.) who were the same faces I saw.....a good sign indeed. Monique and Bonita at the concierge desk are some of the […] finest I have experienced...and I've stayed at some great places. Sometimes, staying at a more intimate hotel in a "big city" makes for a better stay: has great access to everything (food, transportation, supplies, shopping, is easy to get to. Read more
"hotel Vitale--my new favorite SF hotel"
Rooms very comfortable, well appointed and quiet. Location could not be better for things to see and do, as well has walking to great restaurants. Hotel staff unusually helpful and friendly. My new favorite S.F. hotel.

"Clean and Trendy"
Great hotel in a great location. Easy walk to SF sites and transit. Would stay there again.
"Impeccable Hotel"
A must-stay hotel when in San Francisco. Staff were incredibly attentive. Hotel was clean, comfortable, luxurious. Great location with wonderful view of the bay. Not so large that it takes great effort to get to your room. Tasteful, understated decorations with much thought to the comfort of guests.
"Hotel Vitale - San Francisco"
Super comfortable, chill hotel. Will def be going here again.
"not worth the price"
very average hotel trying to be stylish. I was "upgraded" to a city view room, which looked out on a major bus/tram stop and construction site, so was very noisy. Throughout the hotel lights were kept at a very dim level, but when you turned them on you could see how dirty the carpets and walls were. Parking alternatives, even in a pay lot, were non-existant, […] so guests are forced to pay a very hefty valet parking fee. Read more

We've stated at the Hotel Vitale before and will stay again. One feels safe walking in that neighborhood (we walked to a Giants game) and there are closeby restaurants. Breakfast at the hotel's restaurant is very good, and, unlike many other S.F. hotels, the Hotel Vitale is very quiet.
"Best hotel in SF"
I've stayed in many hotels in San Francisco. This is by far the best. Not only are the rooms clean and comfortable, but the location is second to none. We stayed came for a special birthday celebration and the staff went above and beyond to make it a memorable stay. Will now be staying here every time I visit SF.
"Hotel Vitale"
Wonderful hotel. Emphasis on customer service and they do a great job. My only comment is that the hotel is so nice that you have to request additional ice.
"Great hotel in the SF Financial District"
Our room had a nice view of the Ferry Building, Embarcadero, and Bay Bridge. We liked the jellyfish on the elevator monitors. Although the restaurant was very busy in the evenings, the rest of the hotel was very quiet. (The restaurant's breakfast was excellent.) The neighborhood is great with lots of high-quality restaurants within walking distance. […] The decor in the room was very classy with a modern touch with lots of home-like touches (like the throw on the bed and spa products in the bathroom, and a very comfortable bed). The concierge was able to secure reservations for us at an upscale fusion restaurant for a Friday night on short notice, which we really appreciated. Definitely very hospitable. We loved our stay and we can't find anything to complain about! Read more
"Too expensive"
A great hotel... I was/am very pleased with the room/location as we flew in just to see a Giants game. My only objection was that if felt slightly over priced.
"Hotel Vitale in SFO - right on the Embarcadero"
Great hotel that I would recommend to everyone. Front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, beautiful (enough to take a picture for the photo album!) and comfortable. Can't beat the location. We had a view of the bay bridge from the terrace. Drinks at the bar were great with a friendly bartender. We did not eat dinner in the […] hotel, but the restaurant looked nice. We couldn't ask for more. Read more
"Great Hotel If You Can Afford It"
This is a beautiful hotel right on the Embarcadero with a view of the Bay Bridge. We reserved a water view room but were intially given a courtyard view. When we asked for the mistake to be recitied it was done quickly and poilitely. We even got an upgrade for the trouble. For better views specify above the third floor to see over buildings across the […] street. Also, be prepared for the price tag. This is a great place but it aint cheap. Read more
Excellent Location, great hotel room, staff was awesome... booked for one night, and stayed for two is was that good.
"Wonderful location but surprise charges"
This hotel is unique for its location. We spent New Year's eve 2011 and enjoyed the fireworks from our very own hotel room. Nice memory. The hotel is pricey but well worth it. Service is superb! However, upon checking out, we were charged the outrageous rate of 55 dollars per night for valet parking. Most surrounding hotels would charge only 1/3 that […] amount. Shame on you! ...But good memories, too!!! Read more
The hotel is lovely and the rooms large and comfortable, the only thing missing are drawers to put clothing away. We came for a 2 day stay from Sonoma Ca. so only brought a duffel. I wanted a place to put things away as it is difficult to "live" out of a duffel.
"Breathtaking Views!"
Although pricey, it was worth it for the absolutely gorgeous view of the bay and Bay Bridge, including during a full moon. Perfect location for shopping and sightseeing. Most of the employees were friendly, but a few displayed a 'superiority attitude' that I found annoying.

"Hotel Vitale Excellent service & waterfront locale"
top notch customer service at the Hotel Vitale. Hotel allowed us to check in early and check out late. Also gave us a room on one of the top floors. Since we got a great rate thru hotels.com, I wondered if we would receive less than stellar treatment, but that was not the case at all. We were extremely pleased. Waterfront location right across from […] the ferry terminal. For us,the only downside is the fact that the surrounding neighborhood is very subdued at night, but overall a great option for San Francisco. Read more
"Location, Location and not much else"
We were very excited to stay here based on the location and reviews we had read. When we arrived for check-in, the valet assumed we weren't guests and just using the valet for a short time. The check-in clerk was neither friendly or unfriendly. Our room was smaller than I expected and the outlet in our bathroom didn't work. Since we were only staying […] one night, I did not bring it up to the hotel and used another outlet in the room to fix my hair. The TV in our room was a small and somewhat dated LCD. The sheets were amazingly soft, but the bed....ugh so hard. The pillows were so flat. So, it was like the softest sheets on a concrete bed. The location was great - right across from the Ferry Building and the bay and away from the madness of Union Square. We did enjoy the hotel bar/restaurant - the Americana. It was nice lounge environment. The staff was friendly at check out and our car was brought around quickly. Overall, for the money, I have stayed in hotels that suit my tastes better in San Francisco. Read more
"Terrific"
Great hotel in great location. Staff couldn't have been more spectacular. Outstanding views from the roof. Room was comfy and accomodating. Cant wait to stay there again!
"Hotel Vitale, great location near Teatro Zinnzani"
My wife and I booked the room for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We had tickets to Teatro Zinnzani for the evening and the hotel is in walking distance. We had just stayed at another Joie de Vivre Hotel property for the previous 2 nights (Santa Cruz, CA) and had a wonderful stay. Every room looked out on the ocean. We expected all rooms to be high […] quality at Hotel Vitale but was disappointed with the first 2 rooms we were assigned. First room was extremely small, claustrophobic and dark with a view of the roof top and A/C units. Second room was right over the bar patio and extremely noisy. THIRD room we moved to was wonderful. In the end we had a wonderful room and a great hotel experience but I did not expect it to take three tries to get an acceptable room considering our experience in Santa Cruz just the day before. So... if you stay there, opt for an upgraded room. I do want to thank the gentleman at the concierge desk as he finally took excellent care of us and put us in our beautiful room. Read more

"Hotel Vitale at the Wharf in SF"
Exvellent place to stay. Very close to public transportation systems and a 2 minute walk to the wharf. Beautiful rooms. Excellent amenities. Warm and helpful staff. Reasonable rates for SF. Safe neighborhood.
"Best Hotel Stay I've Ever Had"
I travel regularly for work and this hotel was the best stay I have ever had. Beautiful view of SF Bay, helpful staff, great room. The restaurant was a little overpriced for breakfast, but the food was good and I've come to expect hotel food to have a 10-15% markup. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a great place to stay in San Francis […] co. Read more
"Hotel Vitale, San Francisco"
Wonderful hotel, great rooftop terraces ideal for photography, perfect location in downtown San Francisco, convenient to public transportation, shops, restaurants. Highly recommended! Only one minor maintenance issue: Hook in bathroom in my room for hanging clothes had broken off.

"Great, but I've had better for half the price."
I used a large credit I had from Hotels.com before they switched to their new system of averaging the cost of your 10 previous stays to give you an 11th for free. I decided to find the fanciest, highest rated room I could for and book it. That lead me to getting a room here and while the hotel was very nice and decorated to a very modern and spa-esque […] level, I have had better for less. The room was small for the price. The view was on the waterfront, but again for price, the 4th floor appeared to be the lowest of the floors that had rooms on them. I would expect to be on a high floor to capitalize on the views, at least the 6th floor. The bathroom was very nice and the shower was amazing. No tub, just a long rectangle behind, two-thirds of which was protected by a glass wall. The amenities in the room were nice, and the soaps smelled fantastic. Everything was well done, and if this room would have cost half what id did, it would be perfect. But if I am spending this amount I might as well stay at the parc-55 which is centrally located in the city and where I had a king suite for above the 25th floor for half the price. Read more

"Expensive but worth it"
Great hotel. Great location. A bit pricey, but if you are having a special night or vacation, a great hotel. (Beware of the viewless "inner rooms" you really want a view at this hotel.
"Hotel Vitale SF"
This hotel was AMAZING!! Beautiful from the lobby to the terrace. The complimentary turn-down service was lovely. To go out and have a day of sight-seeing then come back to mood lighting, water and mints, and you bed freshened up was very relaxing! I enjoyed very much the space, the view and the very close location to the Ferry building. We went to […] get coffee at Blue Bottle(a MUST! They are a SF original) every morning as well as breakfast. Transportation for the city was extremely convienent; right across the street; for us as we did not want to use our car. A pass for $13 gets you umlimited access on the Vintage F-line, The cable car line, as well as any Muni buses or underground. 24 hour available room service was a nice added bonus. Overall I think the Quality of this hotel is well worth every penny and well worth frequent stays. Read more
"Hotel Vitale-a Joie de Vivre Hotel"
Quality and Staff were as nice as can be. Concierge was exceptional! Would go back in a second, the only thing that is annoying is the price for valet parking. If only Vegas valet was everywhere...
"Wonderfull experience"
In all aspects a wonderfull place to stay in San Francisco. Excellent value for the price.
"Vitale San Francisco"
For two sunny days my "home" was the Hotel Vitale in San Francisco. Nice location with high service minded personal. I highly recommend that if you are in San Francisco and want to stay in the city this is a very good choice for private or buisness stays. The only thing I wish they could do for improvement is a bigger sign, if you don't know San Francisco […] and haven't realy looked at the photograf of the hotel you will miss it coming on Embarcadero, so please a larger sign for us who don't want to miss it! "Great Location"
On the Embarcadero just across from the ferry terminals ... the location is great! The waterfront rooms are pricey but well worth it as the views of the water traffic were very entertaining ... night and day! We'll definitely stay there again on our next visit to San Francisco.

"Hotel Vitale - easy Embarcadero access"
Staff was courteous and helpful. We arrived at 8:30 a.m. and they checked us in right away. There's easy municipal transportation and BART access near the hotel, and the staff whistled a cab for us when we needed it.
"Across from ferry Building"
Great location. Get there on Saturday morning and you can enjoy one of the great open markets in the city just across the street. They have a free connection with The SFO YMCA, or for some extra with Swim and Tennis club of SFO. Great view from the top terrace. Did not try the restaurant
"hotel vitale"
the location is wonderful for walks..and exploring the south of market area from the sfmoma to the ferry building..great restauarnts . the hotel is pleasant and has a very good concierge. our only caution is for international travelers, like us, who rise a bit later due to the time difference and who might want to have a bite to eat in the hotel...the […] restaurant is closed between 10:30 am and 12:00.noon..and check -out is 12.00..so you may have to go elsewhere for brekkie..or do they have room service. "Great Hotel....lousy internet connection"
Vitale is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. I loved everything about it except the internet connection. The speed was so pathetic it was like being on a dial up. No hotel that is serious about its 'luxury' can continue supplying such slow connection speeds. I demand very high speeds for my work and couldn't get it at the Vitale. Fix this issue, […] and the hotel is basically flawless. Read more
