"A welcomed refuge"
Wasn't expecting such a spectacular hotel. Built in the 1920's and recently renovated, its wood-covered charm was a delight. Who does triple-sheeted beds any more??? The Carlton does. We almost didn't want to leave the room with its high ceilings and well appointed bathroom with a separate room for the john, a tub-spa, and a stand-alone shower. Superb! […] The only problem was the television system, which was difficult to work and required a call down to the helpful staff. Good dining was nearby, but we were disappointed that the restaurant in the hotel's first floor had gone out of business. All in all, though, a great place to stay. "Historical, Boutique Hotel"
The room was very nice and well-kept. This is more of a boutique hotel. It has a nice jacuzzi tub which I really enjoyed. The parking lot is a few hundred feet across the street (safe) so be mindful of that. I was moving a lot of stuff in my car so this made me a bit nervous that the parking lot was not a private one behind the hotel. There are some […] restaurants nearby, walking distance. The only thing that would have made it BETTER is if it had a CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST! For the price it should have included breakfast. The staff at the front was friendly and gave recommendations of where to eat down the street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming with issues"
I only was staying for 1 night. I liked the hotel. I would have given the hotel a 5, if it were not for two problems. The first was the tv. I tried for quite awhile to get the lower channels on the tv. I had no luck. I called the desk and they could not get the tv to get the lower channels. The lady at the desk said sorry. I asked if I could get another […] room. She said yes we have several rooms available. She went to another room and checked to see if this room could get the lower channels. It did, so she came to my room and gave me the new room's key I went to the new room and was happy that I could watch the channels that I wanted to watch. Before the show that I wanted to watch started, I repacked my belongings and I went down to the desk to return the keys to the first room. The lady at the desk was coming up the stairs. She asked me how I liked the room. I told her that I liked the tv, but the other room was better. She agreed. In the morning when I was going to take a shower the hand held sprayer was on a hook that was damaged. It was resting against the wall. When I tried to shower the water was running on the floor. After the shower, I had to use a couple of towels to clean up the water. While I was doing that I realized that maintenance put a triangular block of wood on the tub ledge to keep water from going out of the shower. They told me that there were several room available. Why not upgrade me instead of giving me a downgrade? Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a wonderful stay and were nicely surprised by the wonderful large room. The bed and pillows were amazing. There was a little glitch the night we stayed in that the cable TV had gone out for the entire area which was no fault of the hotel. The staff, tried to do what they could and were quick to respond. The other item was a guest totally sank […] (flooded) his room so we were awaken by the emergency warning system and sounds of the fire truck. Again, though no fault of the hotel, the staff were very responsive and assuring. It will be perfect when they get someone in to run the restaurant and bar. As it was, our room and the staff was delightful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A Great Hotel"
We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The room was absolutely beautiful with the most comfortable bed in the world! The bathroom was very nice and well appointed and the staff was great. We would definitely staff here again. The only downside is that there is no restaurant or breakfast offered.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel was fabulous. It was clean and luxurious. It's an old, historic building that is NOT falling apart...far from it. Soooo lovely.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Grand hotel reminiscent of early 1900's."
Although the actual building looks older, there is nothing musty or dilapidated about the place. Everything was very tidy and smelled clean and fresh. The bed was absolutely divine. Our stay didn't allow for much exploring of the hotel but that's okay because we will definitely be coming back.Genuine Expedia guest review
Great place. Friendly staff. Good location right off the freeway. Rooms are big and very comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best bed EVER!"

"The hotel is not described as in Hotel.com"
I would not be staying there in the future. It says that the hotel has a bakery, restaurant and bar. The businesses are no longer there. The clerk says that they closed down last May and has not had a chance the update the internet. A local person there says the businesses closed a couple years ago! There are no restaurant within walking distant. Our […] TV stopped working the second night we were there. We told the heavyset woman clerk about it and she was not nice about it. We had no expectations and were very pleased to see the location and beautiful Hotel Carlton. The bed was comfortable, nicely decorated and quiet. "Old But Nice"
The Hotel is old and is in excellent condition. Could use an update of the TV.Genuine Expedia guest review
Anyone who is planning a getaway wine weekend in the Central Coast should start here. The town of Atascadero is charming, and you are perfectly located between Paso wineries and food to the north, San Luis happenings to the south, and Morro Bay to the west. A completely charming hotel with history, I really should keep this secret to myself.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Easy access off Hwy 101. We were in town for a fourth of July wedding. The room was very quiet even with fireworks outside. Would stay here again. Reasonably priced compared to other hotels less then 15 miles away. Lots of wineries near-by.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good experience. Will return for sure"
Wonderful hotel. The only regret is that they messed up our reservation so for three people, we got a one-bed room. They did provide a roll-away bed and gave us $30 discount per night. We are happy with everything else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best place to stay"
If you're in the Paso region for wine, there's no better place to stay than the Carlton. Way beyond expectation. The only negative is that they're going through a transition with the bar/restaurant. There is no food ro drink. Feel free to take all you want to your room or the beautiful 2nd floor terrace.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Carlton, A Beautiful Historic Hotel"
We enjoyed our stay. We were just passing through town, so were o.k. that there was not much in the way of a town center. The hotel is beautiful. Our room was very comfortable, clean and more elegant than we expected with a jacuzzi tub that was welcome after a day of hiking. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And it is so close to Pasa Robles, […] that we had no trouble getting from the hotel to some fantastic dinner and wine tasting options. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beautiful and Elegant"
The Carlton Hotel is an old-style hotel reminiscent of the 1930's but with all of the modern conveniences. The bathrooms are beautiful and big! In our bathroom, there was a glass-walled shower and a spa tub. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. The only disappointing thing was that the restaurant in the […] lobby was closed. However, there are many good places to eat within walking distance. Hopefully, the restaurant will reopen soon. Great place to stay. Corner rooms are bigger, so be sure to ask for them if "spacious" is a must have. Our room had all marble bath with walk in shower and spa tub both. "Beautiful Older Hotel"
Very clean hotel where everything looks brand new but with an old nostalgic style. Loved this hotel but the bar and restaurant was vacant without proprietorship. Totally unfortunate because I would have completely enjoyed their classy, beautiful lounge with a drink and a place to hang out before bed. The staff was very friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was historically quaint but with modern rooms and amenities. We were surprised at how large and well-appointed the rooms were, especially the bathrooms. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel no longer has a restaurant which may be inconvenient to some and all the surrounding restaurants stop serving around 8:00 in […] the evening...but that is a function of the area. I only live ten minutes away but needed a "vacation" from the stress of life. The room was nice and clean and the hotel staff was very nice. Who knew Atascadero was so charming? Loved the City Hall, the lovely park, and Bru Coffee. Too bad the Carlton no longer has its restaurant and bar. Now THAT would be really classy!
