Banana Bay Resort & Marina - Marathon - Marathon

Had a lot of fun here. It's the Keys. We refer to most of the hotels there as "sheek shabby". The place is aged, but was clean. The housekeeper was in daily and did a good job. The staff is friendly. I wish they would spend more time grooming the trees and shrubs, that would really help the aesthetics. We will be staying there again.

this was an unforgettable getaway for me, the hotel and surroundings were beyond amazing!!!! my boyfriend surprised me with this trip; all i had to do was book it, VERY CHEAP for an amazing place! i felt like i was out of Florida... the hotel back view is gorgeous. i'd go back in a heart beat! def recommend!

This hotel was very run down. The grounds were ok but specifically the room was in dire need of repair. Walls need painting, bathroom wallpaper is peeling off walls. It was difficult to tell how clean the rooms were because it was so run down. We had to switch rooms from the first one were given because it had such a musty smell. The hotel is listed as a resort, but is mostly a small hotel. It is nicely located 1/2 way down the Keys so worked well to get to for the evening from Orlando area and then drive remainder of way to Key West for the tourist activities the next morning . This is just a roadside motel but priced as a four star hotel. It's dated, dirty and poorly maintained. The staff is far from friendly. There is no breakfast, and the wifi is hard to find if at all. Would never stay there again..

Went to the keys and Marathon was the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle. This place is a bit older (most of Marathon seems to be), but it's quiet and only ~3 miles from Sombrero Beach. Quite a few restaurant options within 10 min. The hotel tiki bar was a bit of a let down, but that wasn't a big deal.

This was a nice relaxing part of our recent stay in the Florida Keys. I thought our room was a fair size. The pool and spa were clean and not over crowded. The online pictures where nothing like the rooms. The carpet was so awful I wouldn't let the kids go barefoot. There is no restaurant as advertised. At first they put us in a miserable room near the highway with no view of the Gulf or ocean. Had to pay upgrade fee of $25 to get a much better view of the marina & Gulf. The hotel location in relation to US 1 is excellent but the hotel itself is in dire need of updating. The canopy bed takes over the average size room and makes it seem tiny. The wardrobe/tv center does the same. Also, there is an unpleasant odor that pervades the hotel rooms as well as the office. But eventually we got used to it. Banana Bay has lots of potential, the grounds are beautiful. Like a jungle. The room was large and spacious But I our window was so dirty we could not see out. The exterior has not been washed in years. We had 1 face cloth,1 hand towel, 2 bath towels. 1 small soap and a tiny bottle of shampoo. I asked for more shampoo & hand towel but never got either. […] Skimping on these things is just cheap!! We had to go out late to buy shampoo & soap. For starters this hotel is way over advertised on the web, I've stayed at better 2 star motels. They advertise a pool side Tiki Bar that hasn't been opened in over 2 years. They advertise a private beach which in reality is some gravel piled up by a breaker wall and NO swimming! The "heated" pool was freezing even in the middle of the day and had a […] oily film floating on the water. The pool chairs hadn't been washed in forever and were practically brown instead of white. The "garden view" that we were shown on the website is in reality a very unkept 3 foot strip that some what sheilds the sound of the highway that your balcony looks out to. The tennis courts haven't been kept up in years and have weeds growing. The rooms smelled like mildew. The cleaning crew didn't even replace our wet towels or pillow cases. The vending machine was almost empty when we got there and wasn't refilled the entire week we stayed. The only decent service we had was from one of the front desk girls, the rest of the staff couldn't even stop their personal conversations while we were checking in. They also tried to make us pay more since our Expedia price didn't get put in correctly to their system. Overall a horrible experience. Read more

Room was not clean properly. My daughter spotted filthy stuff behind nightstand, we asked the front desk I f someone could vacuum that out, but went we came back it was still there. Iron did not work, they replaced it later on with a brand new one. Front desk people were the best of this hotel.

Likewise, the other eating facilities at the resort are not in service, so you have to take breakfast, lunch and dinner away from the property.. The hotel is nice and quiet. The immediate surroundings could do with a bit of sprucing up and a facelift. The entrance to the foyer of the guest rooms is a bit smelly and unkempt. Never ever did see the tiki bar or the so called restaurant by the pool open. It would really help if the eating places were open for service.

We had an enjoyable stay. The pool was great. It would have been much more fun to stay there if they had still had a restaurant and lounge on site. Screens in the windows would have been nice. Some fresh air inside would have helped since it was a little musty. I would have liked to see the place when it was in it's hay day and had a game room, exercise […] equipment, restaurant lounge. The attracting advertisement did not live up to the real standard of the accomodation. The front desk staff has been really helpful. Hotel needs a little TLC from the owners/operators. It is kind of a good value, but it could use some work/renovations. Can get a rooms at better, national-chain hotels for very little more than price paid. Restaurant has been "closed for a long time"? Then why is it still advertised? Paint is peeling at some places, carpet feels old, stained.

The hotel staff were not particularly interested in our checking in. In fact they were even less interested when they noted that we booked via Expedia. The amenities were poor. Calling this hotel a resort is a great overstatement. Although the info on the hotel and even the signage outside of the hotel referred to a bar and restaurant, neither were […] available. The restaurant had been closed for over 1 year. And the limited bar service was subject to whatever days of the week the bartender worked. As was noted by the staff, we were there at the wrong time of year, therefore there are no amenities available. And since we booked through Expedia, they really weren't interested in our comments. It is obviously an older hotel. They do have free wi-fi. They have a dock but no swimming area. Our room faced out onto US1. Grocery store and fast food places are nearby.I guess I just felt it was a little pricey for what we got, but everything is expensive in the Keys.
