this was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. It was very comfortable. The rooms were very large and have a great view of the city. It is a older hotel but is kept up like a new one. The pool is only 4 foot deep but is very nice. I will be staying there again!

This hotel was a wonderful surprise in downtown Des Moines. We had a lovely spacious room, a King bed with a sitting area, flat screen TV, nice bathroom with an excellent shower. The staff was friendly, and, although we didn't get a chance to use the restaurant, it looked very nice from the beautiful lobby. This will be our place to stay whenever we visit our daughters in Des Moines.

Our room was a double queen; however, the beds were closer to full size than queen. Our room had two bathrooms, which was a nice surprise. Room itself was smaller than I expected, but the beds were very comfortable. Could not hear any noise from neighbors or hallway, which can be an issue at some hotels. Restaurant in hotel was very nice and food was very good. Would recommend.

I had a room booked for tuesday night, but came in a night early since the weather was bad. They got me into a room and I didn't even have to change rooms the next night. I sure appreciated the convenience of staying in the same room both nights. I was also allowed an extra 1 1/2 hours for check out due to a conference I was attending. I was very pleased with the way I was treated.

The hotel facade was historic and preserved. The lobby was very inviting and well maintained. The limited interaction I had with the hotel staff was pleasant. The bed was fabulous, but the room was a little run down and very small. The bathtub was grimy. The tiling and grout around the bathtub needed painted and regrouted. I thought the bathroom in general was 2 star quality. The hotel lounge was convenient and there are a few great restaurants within walking distance.

Wonderful room, but very small (still outdated) bathrooms with no where to place toiletries. Comfy duvet on king-sized bed. Fantastic breakfast right in hotel. If you don't plan to go in/out a lot, park your car in the parking garage on 4th (immediately across the street from the 4th St. hotel entrance) for $9 all night. Hotel valet charges were $15.

This hotel was a big disappointment. We chose it because of the great location and and because it looked nice on the web. We arrived to find a very small room. The bed was comfortable but that was about it. The toilet did not flush well the first night and the second night we arrived back after a long day to find the handle completely broken. Needless to say, it didn't flush at all. The shower poured water out both the spout and shower head making the tub fill up with water. The tile was stained, cracked and outdated which made it look dirty. The elevator was slow (only 1 of them was working the first day), and the second day they were both broken and we had to take the stairs (we were on the 8th floor). We got no apologies, refund or anything for our trouble with the room. We won't ever go back. I will say though, that they do have great breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
