"Perfect for us"

All was cozy and friendly. Stayed in the gate house in a small but nice and comfortable room. Nice breakfast and perfect location. Be prepared to climb stairs with you suitcases if you book late like we did. Oh well, we needed the exercise anyway!
"No room at the Inn ....."

We were booked to stay at this property as part of a 3 week tour of New England. On arrival the initial welcome was warm and the lounge looked cosy and inviting. Sadly this was all we got to see!! Despite having paperwork confirming our booking and having paid through “Maine City Tours” we got to see!! Via a Booking Agent in the UK, we were told they had no record of any booking, they were full and no room for us!!. They instead moved to a self catering cottage owned by the same company. This was OK, but not what we had booked for or paid for but had little choice. If you are planning a stay here ….. check your booking - who ever is at fault!!! For obvious reasons our rating is based on what we saw and how we were treated not the quality of the rooms!

My daughter, daughter-in-law, and I stayed for one night at the lodge and couldn't have been more pleased! We were greeted by Barbara who was so kind and helpful and told us to make ourselves at home. We had the entire first floor to ourselves, which included a warm fire in the fireplace and cozy seating. As we had stopped at the County line liquor stores (a great place to buy your adult beverages!), we had some relaxing glasses of wine in front of the fire and played some board games that the inn supplied. Our room upstairs included a sitting area with a fireplace, a king size bed in one room and twin beds in another, and a large bathroom. Upon leaving, Eric was kind enough to take a picture of all of us in front of the inn and presented us with a small going away gift. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!
"great weekend getaway"

My girlfriend and I spent 2 nights last weekend at the old fort inn. Neither of us had been to Kennebunkport and wanted a relaxing, quiet weekend with a few things to do. Old fort inn was great for this. We stayed in the king grand room. The room was spacey, immaculately clean, and had a nice mix of modern and rustic decor. We had a gas fireplace in the room which was really nice. The breakfast in the morning was a continental breakfast with one hot item, such as egg and sausage souffle. Totally adequate. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. They had free bikes available and we used them 2 days....they were a great way to visit the beach and get around Kennebunkport. My only 2 criticisms were that (1) they should have told us the heated pool would be closed for the season, and (2) we arrived there in late afternoon (5:30pm) and it would have been nice to have a little snack or drink upon arrival
"Bed great Breakfast awful"

What a lovely place - nice rooms - pleasant people all was really fine and then came the breakfast. Cheerios, cornflakes, plastic bread, old fruit. Really very poor and not at all the quality one would expect of such an elegant and beautiful place. If they get this detail worked out I would go back'
"A nice Inn."

It is in the heart of Kennebunk and convenient to all the sights. The room was lovely and the grounds lovely. I liked it but I got a great deal so otherwise I don't think I could afford too many nights there...

This is a very well managed, clean and relaxing property. Staff is excellent, and location is in a quiet peaceful residential area, minutes from the main road to town. Although it is residentially located, it is isolated from neighboring properties. It is a great location for a group to get away to. We traveled in the fall, and I can not imagine that there is a better time to travel in the Kennebunkport area. We will return.
"A quiet and peaceful choice"
We stayed here in July for a couples getaway. We were very pleased with the location of this inn - it is in a beautiful residential area away from the hustle and bustle of town and the main beach area. It is quiet and peaceful and while in a wooded area is mere blocks from the ocean. We loved the pool area. It was never very crowded and the loungers were comfortable. The water was a great temperature. We especially liked the yummy baked treats each day which was a very nice touch! What would have made it even better was if there was someone around the pool area in the afternoons to take drink orders although you can go inside on your own and get a drink. Breakfasts were fine although the fruit selection was not great and was the same each morning we were there - melon. We were greeted by a lovely receptionist upon arrival however we were disappointed that two of the dinner reservations the hotel had pre-booked for us prior to our stay had been "lost." While they did make alternate arrangements, they were unable to re-book a reservation at their sister property Hidden Pond, which was the meal we were most looking forward to. In the end, my husband was able to wrangle a reservation on his own without too much difficulty (so glad he did too because it was delicious!). Our room was very nicely appointed and the bed and linens very comfortable. Oddly, we had two exposures in our room but it was a bit dark. And we had to be careful about changing because there was always someone behind the inn doing gardening work each day. This was a great base for exploring the area and we will definitely return.
"Absolute quality with a personal touch"

We live in the UK, love New England and always include The Old Fort in our trips. We have been delighted to return to this gem for more than 12 years. The Old Fort is an unusual place: staying there really is like being a guest in a wonderful New England home. It is located in a residential area of substantial Summer homes, it is quite small so intimate and it has a great swimming pool. However, the best bit is the welcome. When you arrive and during your stay, you are treated as a guest, in its true meaning, by Mindy and her team. Mindy is the manager, but its not like that: Mindy welcomes you to her home. Try it and you will be delighted and hooked: we plan to be back next September.

The staff couldn't have been friendlier, there was such a comfortable and stylish decor in the main sitting areas and the pool was just perfect. We were treated to fresh cookies and lemonade in the afternoon and the staff was always quick to answer questions or provide what they could to make our experience more enjoyable. I expected a cute bed and breakfast from the reviews and website, but I honestly have to say that they exceeded my expectations and is possibly one of my favorite bed and breakfasts that we have visited.
