"Hotel Ella is a must in Austin!"
This is the best!. The rooms are large, well planned, beautifully appointed and the beds are terrific. This is a world class hotel with the charm of an exclusive inn. The staff is friendly, efficient, and polite with out being officious. It does not get better than thisGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"T & M will go again - to Hotel Ella"
Thank goodness we chose Hotel Ella for our weekend stay in Austin! In the past when visiting Austin, we have stayed at a couple of very high-end hotels (which will remain nameless) because of their reputation and location. Those experiences were adequate but nothing special and certainly, the money spent didn't equal the experience. At Hotel Ella, the […] charm and warmth of the environment was palpable and so very relaxed. We stayed in the 'Main House' - lovely! The room itself was small but well accommodated and the bed was so comfortable I didn't care about how much space I had. As an interesting juxtaposition, we could've roller skated in our bathroom it was so big! The bar was elegant with a great wine/cocktail selection and food menu. We were in town for a concert and the convenience of having the hotel car drive us there and pick us up was more than spectacular - shout out to Jacob who took great care of us! The next morning our brunch in the restaurant was impressive in that it was creative and bountiful! We'll be staying again next trip. The ONLY thing I could say that might bother some people is the construction all around the hotel. However, that is pretty much everywhere you go in Austin right now... Parking terrible valet parking only at $25 extra per day. Unable to connect to wifi. Great ambiance and comfy room. Excellent porch.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely period piece"
I enjoyed my stay. The old elegance of the hotel was a pleasant surprise. The building is a designated landmark. My room was lovely, well-appointed, and quiet. The service was excellent, and the location was perfect for a visit to the University of TexasGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Amazing service - above and beyond freindly staff"
Every staff member goes above and beyond w service friendliness and accommodating us ! Room was impeccable and we wish there was one in every city we travel to ! We would always stay here !Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel was very nice and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our only issue was noise. We had a first floor room and we could hear everything above us and beside us.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I really enjoyed the hotel. There are great photographs and original art through out the hotel. They have a great bar with a mixologist and a happy hour that is hard to beat. The rooms are not large but very comfortable and attractive. A beautiful hotel!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is a neat boutique find. It sits right across the road from University of TX. Hotel offers a free shuttle within a 3 mile radius that was extremely helpful!! Rooms were small but very comfortable. Staff was so helpful!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very disappointing for the price...Attempting elegance, but fails in the most basic convenience categories. The room does not even have a closet. Clothes must hang on a garment rack that is open to the room and just looks and feels very unkempt. No surface area to put anything, including makeup when trying to apply. No coffeemaker in the room. At $500+ […] per night, I would expect quite a bit more. Probably the most disappointing stay in the 8 years I've been coming to visit my UT college students in this wonderful city. "Not a good place if you are on business."
This was our first stay since the remodel and name change - the hotel was formerly the Mansion on Judge's Hill. For $259, our room was barely large enough to move around in. It was raining the entire time and there was no way to get from the room in the rear wing of the hotel to the registration desk and main lobby without getting wet. Internet wireless […] service ranged from poor to non-existent. We won't be staying here again, which is unfortunate, since it is in a convenient location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quaint yet sophisticated"
This hotel is charming but also fresh and modern. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and they had a very convenient hotel car service for going short distances around town. I only wish I could have stayed longer. The ambience was very relaxing. I would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beautiful hotel, Superb hospitality"
I could stay here just to enjoy the architecture alone, but add the convenient location, beautiful and clean room, extra-hospitable staff and amenities and the place is unbeatable. The small staff was attentive and kind, and we seemed to know many of them by name within our 3 days stay—they just took care of us. Don't you want to feel taken care of? […] The bartender, valet guys, waitress, and manager we spent time with all impressed. My husband complained that the shower didn't keep a hot temperature, but I didn't really notice. A complimentary crib was in our room before we arrived, which I really appreciated. Daily desserts, magazines and a really comfortable robe were little luxuries I liked. Our request for an iron & board and razor were met quickly. The valet left cold water in our cup holder after retrieving our car—we very much appreciated that! Our room no. 216 had the BEST 2nd story view of the pool, it physically overlooked it and we got a great breeze from the small balcony. The location was excellent, you could get anywhere in no time at all, and while the neighborhood is very walkable, keep in mind you're really in the heart of UT campus so most walkable food/drink options are of the fast food variety, but better options are under 10 minutes away. "Good location, not much else"
The good- centrally located by the campus, nice verandah area, cute pool. The bad- zero attention to detail, for ex they'd replenish the coffee only w/decaf, or forget the cream. You need a shower cap- none to be found. Some rooms face an expanse of white wall- you feel almost trapped in. The tiniest vanity area. Service is lacking; front desk met a […] few run of the mill inquiries (shuttle service info for ex) with slack jaw and a blank expression. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"boutique & beautiful"

I really loved this hotel... it's location, the staff, the rooms, the bar, well all of it really! I stayed in the mansion itself and had a room with doors to the main terrace. The rooms are just what you would expect from a five star luxury group but without being cookie cutter. Great furnishings with a fantastic bathroom, lovely crisp linen with full turndown service. My only small niggle is that I had to move the bedside table closer to the bed so I could use the lamp at night - but that took just a moment to fix! So with all of the above in mind I really enjoyed Austin and am looking forward to returning to the Hotel Ella and it's wonderful team who made my stay so comfortable!
"Comfortable luxury in a great location"

The Hotel Ella is well situated near the University of Texas campus in a well appointed historic mansion with several additions that make it a fabulous hotel to meet most any needs. The valet provided a warm welcome and had my car available when needed, the front desk was extremely helpful and ensured the room was exactly what was required for the stay. Upon arrival, some time was spent in the intimate yet classy bar just off the lobby where all drinks were hand made but a skilled bar tended, creating a pleasant ambiance free of the noise of electrical appliances. The mansion art was splendid, highlighting local artists and celebrities. The rooms are all very well appointed and restored to a standard appropriate of the historic mansion, with some accessing shared balcony areas which would be fabulous on warmer mornings for breakfast, or evenings for a nice social hour or dinner. Food at the restaurant was exemplary with a very Texas feel to it, particularly the diving poached eggs served over a grits biscuit. While it was not used due to the cold snap during my stay, the pool area was fabulous and welcoming; while not an athletic pool, it would be ideal to cool down on a hot Texas summer day or simply lounge around whiling away an afternoon with one of the hand-made rink specials from the hotel bar.
"Texas elegance from a bygone era."

I wanted to experience some of the "old charm" of Austin Texas. This hotel has it! Austin is rapidly growing and all the big hotels are moving in - building sleek modern but boring rooms. I found this hotel on the Internet. Because it is boutique it is not advertised widely. It is not in the downtown, but buses are nearby. The hotel staff do offer to drive you into town but only at limited tines. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. I wanted a room in the historical section but they did not get that part of my request from the online booking agent. It is best to ring and check this in advance to be sure.
"Quiet, beautiful hotel"
01/03/15 barry b
My husband and I stole away for a quiet night in a nice hotel. We were not disappointed. There are plenty of niceties such as the crispest sheets ever, upscale toiletries, beautifully appointed very very quiet rooms, luxurious robes, complimentary WSJ, super nice bar with generous happy hour and a yummy little restaurant (see review about Goodall's Nutella creme brûlée). Another plus is the hotel's Escalade that is provided for complimentary drop/pick up anywhere in downtown (was very nice to over imbibe at dinner and not worry about parking/driving). The downside was that it was raining and we had to exit the hotel to access our room. Also, there's no provisions for coffee/tea in room. The rooms are small but it's like any classic building, you appreciate the character of the space and cozy up to your roommate. The staff were perfect and the turndown service was a nice surprise with a full ice bucket, water carafe and a yummy chocolate to boot. Stay at Ella. You'll be glad you did.
"Hotel Beautiful, but Overall a Disappointing Stay"

Please don't let this review put you off staying at Hotel Ella. The staff who deal with the cars and luggage were great, you only can do concierge parking here. We checked in at reception and were taken to our room which was very small, the sink was in the room as not enough room in the bathroom to put it, a free standing clothes rail to hang your clothes on. There was a stocked mini fridge but no coffee/tea facilities, there is a coffee station in the morning at the bottom of the stairs which was very nice. I had asked for a quite room, we got a room and the view was a wall and if you peered to the right you could see bins. The fittings could be a better quality, this also extends to the bedroom, the bed was small but linens and pillows were excellent quality. They need to do some work on the small but important details - there was plaster spot on the wall that must have covered a hole over the sink unit which they hadn't bothered painting, there was a plank of wood behind the bed which extended from behind the bedhead and was nailed into the wall, strange and very unattractive. Unfortunately the servicing of the room was a joke - the day after we arrived we left the room at 10am and put the very nice leather "Please Service My Room" on the door, we came back at 5pm (7 hours later) and the room had not been serviced, I went to reception and explained that the room hadn't been serviced asked for additional bath towels as we had to get ready for our supper reservations, they arrived 10 minutes later. When we were ready we rang reception to say we were going out and please could the room be done. When we got back they seem to think that only one person was staying in the room as they had only done the Turn Down Service for one (same as the night before but at least on the night before they had left 2 chocolates) one bottle of water and one chocolate, disappointing. We didn't get a paper in the morning, we were given no information on the pool or the coffee station. The building is beautiful, the products in the bathroom are lovely. At £150.00 a night, I, unfortunately, would not stay here again.
"Great location to stay for a UT game"
12/02/14 Greg K Arlington, Texas
Leave your car with the hotel. Walk to the game and come back and sit on the veranda and have a drink to celebrate your win. Great rooms, good food and great service makes this a special place. Had Thanksgiving dinner there and it was a nice set up for the holiday.

Awesome experience. Please read the whole review. We checked in to our cute room in the historical part of the hotel. Very pretty. Here is where it gets interesting. We had no cold water in the shower. Kinda need at least a little of that. We called the front desk and in about 2 minutes we had a maintenance guy and the hotel manager in our room. With in a few minutes, they decided to move us to another room so that we would not be inconvenienced. We were promptly moved. Champagne was delivered (free) to our new room. Things happen but I have never seen a response like we received from the Hotel Ella. On a scale of 1 - 10, we experienced a 12. Off the chart!. Bar...excellent. Rooms....perfect. Location...wonderful. Staff....THE BEST. Make sure you stay here.
"Like coming home"
11/20/14 Marie V Houston, Texas
Love this hotel, it's atmosphere and it's people! It's a beautiful pillared southern mansion with balconies made for sipping mint juleps! The valets meet you big smiles and a desire to help! They will drive you to dinner in the hotel car, no finding directions and parking, you get to relax and enjoy! They also remember your name! Inside it's the warmth you hope for! Sincere smiles again. Big comfy rooms. Great turn down service with fresh water in terrific glass reusable containers, keeping it green! You also get delicious artisan chocolates at night! So good I had to find them and buy some! In the morning Gabby at the front desk, who is lovely, asks about your sleep and your plans for the day to see if she can help. When you come home she remembers it all and asks how it all went! They all ask because they care! It's like coming home and being looked after by a loving family! It doesn't get any better than that!

We had a great stay at Hotel Ella. From the start, the staff was wonderful and upgraded us to one of their suites before we even got there. The room was large and comfortable and the bed was great! The toilet was oddly placed, but that's about the only downside to the stay, but it was just weird, not detrimental to the stay. I'd recommend Hotel Ella if you're in the area!
"Beautiful elegant hotel"
11/17/14 Freya S Southampton, United Kingdom
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Ella for three nights for our wedding anniversary. Ella is a beautiful, elegant hotel and everything I would expect from Small Leading Hotel. The staff are accommodating and friendly, the breakfast menu delicious, and the whole hotel spotlessly clean and tidy. I would love to give this a five star rating but there are three key reasons I haven't. Firstly, the location. While pleasantly out of central downtown (but still within walking distance) the hotel grounds are sandwiched between two taller buildings, one of which is currently a building site, just down the road from the likes of Dominos Pizza and taco joints. Not the most genteel of locations. Secondly, the size of our room. We had booked a junior suite for the best part of $400 a night (excl taxes) and it was small with an absolutely minuscule bathroom - just a small bath with shower over it, and toilet so cramped it was impossible not to bang your elbows on the toilet roll holder! The wash basin was outside of the bathroom in the bedroom area. Yes, it had a tiny little terrace overlooking the pool, but I did not feel that the room justified the title "junior suite". Finally, we had not been informed upon booking or arrival that we would be sharing the hotel with a wedding party for the weekend. While we sat in the small, peaceful bar enjoying a glass of wine on our first afternoon, the entire wedding party trooped into the bar and the bride and groom held court and gave a speech to their guests - with us sitting right in the middle. How embarrassing. We also had to complain to the hotel reception about the late noise on the night after the wedding. The hotel manager we spoke to did everything possible to put it right and we were grateful for that, but, as the hotel is small and boutique, potentially hotel management may wish to consider requiring wedding parties to exclusively book the hotel to avoid disruption to other guests in future - or at the very least to inform other guests with reservations in case they would prefer to reconsider their booking.
