The folks who worked at the hotel were great. The room was a bit small and the couch was a bit uncomfortable but the overall experience was very pleasing. We would make it a point to stay there again given our needs. The public transportation access was very good. Only a block from the tram and just a bit further to the train station.

Noisy, not very clean and no service in our room (no fresh towels or toiletries). Staff tries to mislead guests about noise levels during events and the duration of events. Don't stay here if you want a good night's sleep or appreciate cleanliness.

The reason I would not recommend this hotel was the service. The hotel was nice, the service was not. The restaurant service was terrible. Was told when we arrived that it would be a small wait to be served as 2 large tables had arrived before the two of us. We understood, but it took over 2 hours to get our meal and then it was not cooked properly. […] Had to send the steak back and then wait an additional 20 minutes for a replacement. Manager never came over to find out what happened, was too concerned with the large tables. Had to repeatedly ask for water to be refilled and when would the food arrive. Needless to say we never went back. Room was being cleaned at 6:45 PM and found a trainee in the room by themselves. I came back 5 minutes later to find a manager on the phone in my room talking to someone. He hung up as I entered the room and the phone rang again. It was the Housekeeping manager. He told me he was on his way up. Waited additional 5 minutes for him to arrive, all the while frustrated because of dinner reservations at 7:00 PM and the need to change clothes. Manager would not do anything to remedy the situation and did not offer anything to compensate for the inconvenience. Next day the hotel manager called and said my room was to be cleaned by 3:00 PM. That did not happen everyday either. Checkout was a disaster. Charged me 2 times for the room, then had to use 2 different credit card machines to refund the money. Did not say thanks or anything for an 11 day stay. I would not be in a hurry to go back to this hotel. Read more

I stayed in one of the twin king Manhattan rooms. It was a fully equipped apartment, with very modern styling and facilities. Service was helpful and friendly. One negative was a surcharge for paying by credit card: who pays by cash these days?

Pleasant and convenient hotel. Just disappointing with major disturbance to sleep due to inconsiderate and extremely noisy neighbours arriving to their rooms from 1am til 4am! Had to phone reception at 3am and get security who addressed the situation. On complaint to hotel staff next morning we were offered a change of room which we accepted. Went down for a little break from Sydney. Location was close to everywhere we wanted to go. Hotel staff were quick and responsive. Lifts were a bit slow at the time due to one lift being out of service for maintenance.

The hotel was comfortable and conveniently located. The front desk staff were very helpful, the restaurant and coffee shop were good. The rooms very disappointing as the bed was just pulled up each day not even smoothed out, coffee tea etc were not replenished and floor was only vacuumed once, bins weren't emptied.

Very pleasing views of Melbourne city, and the heritage buidings and brick work that also can be seen near by! Everything in the room that you would need like a full stocked mini bar, that i only eat the choc`s hehe! Even a hot plate utensils..... Very comfortable. Only two drawbacks: proximity to neighbouring balconies with resultant cigarette smoke - an absolute hate! Also, the bathroom door had a broken stop so very dangerous in terms of sliding glass door - cut my finger on it. Reported to duty clerk on our departure.

The photos of the rooms on the Rydges website are fantastic compared to what you get. I was placed in a room with a step as soon as you walk in and you could'nt walk around the bed without running into the wardrobe (you literally had to climb over the bed to get out). The other side of the bed wasn't much better, with the constant fear of falling off […] the narrow space where the step is on the way to the bathroom. Don't ask for a room with a balcony - they are shared balconies with other guest rooms and don't offer any privacy. My room wasn't serviced one day either, with the best alternative given was a staff member handing me bed sheets in case I 'wanted to make my own bed'. Ahhh, no thanks? Read more

Beautifully cosy and comfortable bed. Great views from the sixth floor. Lovely food from the restaurant with the same food (from a slightly smaller menu) delivered for room service. Desk a fraction on the smaller side but adequate. Excellent kitchen facilities. Narrow and slightly awkward bathroom that is totally made up for by a shower with excellent […] water pressure. Staff most helpful but perhaps not enough of them - it was somewhat difficult to get assistance with my luggage both upon arriving and leaving the hotel, although upon providing this feedback to Management they have advised they are in the process of recruiting bell boy and concierge staff. I paid a bargain rate for four nights and definitely received value for money, so this is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Nice Hotel large enough.. No undercover shelter for designated smoking shelter upstairs. Needs a screwdriver taken to rooms lots of things loose and a few fresh light bulbs. Nice decor but pool is through another building. Staff nice.

We stayed in one bedroom Manhattan apartment for a very good price deal. The housekeeper forgot to throw away the rubbish bag one day and put it on top of the table instead. We were surprised to find a rubbish bag on top of dining table. Despite this, everything else is fabulous.

We were very disappointed by this hotel. Staff at the reception were not helpful when we inform them of our issue. We left hotel early in the morning and came back only at 9pm to realise all our belonging were chuck at a side. our personal tooth brush, clothes which were hung in the toilet were all thrown to a sofa with our luggage. We then realise […] our personal shower foam, shampoo n conditioner were missing from the toilet. I have sensitive skin and only medicated shower foam, shampoo n conditioner to suitable hence we have always brought our own. We contacted the reception and we were rudely told to wait for their reply. After 3 days they then call us at the room and tell us that it could be us that remove it from the room and they are sure that they did not remove them. the question is, why do we need to do it? Its may not worth anything but it is really causing alot of inconvenience to people like me with skin problem. We came home with serious rashes. The 4 days of embarassment we need to face due to my skin problems was worst and it made our holiday feel terrible. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a great time in australia. I think they are more dedicated only to their permanent residence as we realise they were also operating service apartments. Hotel guest are not really important i guess. Read more

SUMMARY, great place to stay, clean and good location BEWARE of the step in the room can be dangerous. My stay at the Rydges (Preston) was a comfortable one. The room is relatively large for a studio even though the bathroom is very small. The room was very clean and they serviced it very well for the 5 nights that I was there for. Location is very […] convenient as its very close to trams, trains and supermarket. You are limited by eating places around if you don’t have a car but it’s very easy to get to the CBD from there. My only complaint is that there was a step just as you entered the room which I tripped on a couple of times. This step is not only inconvenient but can be potentially dangerous as you have to go down the step and back up again to go to the bathroom so if you are up at night to go to the bathroom you really have to be careful so you don’t trip. Nice hotel but I've stayed here 4 times and every time I have had to change rooms as people smoke in the next door room. My theory is if I ask for NON SMOKING and I always do put me in those rooms. The staff are OK semi-friendly but they don't go out of their way to assist.

Was very disappointed over-all by this hotel. It started first with the check-in. We were checked in by a duty manager - when checking us in,he tried to make us pay extra as he said the rate on-line was not right. After showing him it was paid in full, he just put the key on the counter and told us our room number. He did not give us any directions, […] advise us when/where breakfast was, or even "enjoy your stay". It was the same at check-out, the girl on reception just took our key, did not ask did we enjoy our stay. When checking in we had to give $100 deposit. We were advised this would be refunded back within 24 hours after check-out, we are still waiting for this to be refunded. The room was spacious and the bed quite comfortable, but was not as clean as you would expect from a 4 star. We found the room to be quite dusty. We also had to wash the cutlery in the room before we could use it. We have been travelling around Australia for 5 months now, and have even stayed in backpackers along the way, I can honestly say this was the most disappointing out of all the places we stayed in terms of service. Positives: The hotel has good facilites: Swiming pool, mini mart, post-office, cafe, 2 restraunts, 2 bars, gym. Internet was also reasonable - 24 hours unlimited usage for $12.95. Overall, I do not think I would go back to again. The service in the hotel was very disappointing, and would put me off returning. Read more
