"Get what you pay for"
Stayed here overnight after a Thursday night Bears game. They kindly let us check in a couple hours early and referred us to a good Chinese restaurant. They do not talk much English. There is a homeless man who stays right around the corner. He's harmless and nice. Not a bad hotel to crash in. Comfy bed, couldn't figure out the air conditioner but the […] window opened... "A "15 Minute Walk to the Convention Center" Hotel"
The Chinatown Hotel is a no-frills hotel that costs less than $100 per night. If you're looking for a hotel that offers a free breakfast, a refrigerator in the room, valet service, or a free shuttle service, this isn't the place for you. There is a residential style refrigerator in the lounge / kitchenette area which is shared by all, as well as a soda […] machine and 2 small ice-makers. Internet WiFi in the room leaves much to be desired, but I was told the signal in the lounge area was much better. There is a computer and printer in the lounge area if needed. Rooms are not spacious, and there is no elevator. Television channels are limited, and don't expect any pay channels or ESPN. AMEX and Discover are not accepted, but VISA and Mastercard are. However, if you're only looking for an inexpensive hotel room with a clean comfortable bed to sleep in at night, this is the place for you. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the room, though small, was clean. Located in the heart of Chinatown, there is no "McDonalds" to speak of, but every other building seemed to be a Chinese restaurant while every 3rd or 4th seemed to be a gift shop. The CTA Chinatown-Cemack train station is nearby (though currently closed for remodeling but a free shuttle will take you to the next closest station.) The Convention Center is a short 15 minute walk. I did not spend much time in my room except to sleep, so accommodations were perfect for me. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great for the budget-conscious."
This hotel has few amenities. The carpet and wall treatments are outdated and very few of the rooms have a view of something other than the brick walls of the adjacent buildings. Maybe two good channels on the tv, no elevator (we had to do three flights of stairs), small rooms and no real parking. But the price reflects this and it's an easy trip to […] downtown Chicago. The staff aren't fluent in English but they speak it well enough and are very friendly and helpful. I book here nearly every time I visit Chicago. If you're looking for an inexpensive stay and living large isn't a necessity, this hotel is a great choice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Quality hospitality at a great rate."
I was very satisfied with the simple quality and the exemplary service. The room was right-sized and functional, the staff made every effort to ensure reasonable requests were honored in a timely fashion. With the absurd price of most lodgings in tho area, I am grateful the ChinaTown Hotel is willing and able to provide reasonable accommodations. Bed, […] shower, TV, desk, chair, closet with hangars (wood hangars, at that), and a remote for the thermostat... A Convenient Reality. Look for the movie soon. "Close to my destination of business (downtown)"
I had a very nice stay. The room was comfortable; and, I slept very well. I appreciated having prepared coffee the next morning. Parking lot was convenient.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The main issue was the first night of our stay the power kept going in and out...and with there being a MAJOR heat wave in Chicago, the A/C going out was torturous. I could tell the staff was truly trying to fix the problem. The last couple days of our stay went smoothly. Located in the center of Chinatown […] and very close to bus and "L" lines for transportation. Don't expect anything glamorous! Old school hotel in the middle of Chinatown and local living area. "Worst stay ever"
I arrived and my room was not ready and came back after an hour still not ready gave a room on the 3rd floor! The air condition was not good and the bed was stiff as a board I would of been better off staying at a motel 6!Genuine Expedia guest review
No elevator to help me bring by bags upstairs. The carpet is very old and musty smelling. There was a nice whirl pool in the living room. It sprayed water 8 -10 feet around the tub. The tile around the tub was very wet and slippery. My feet slid out from under me and I landed on the floor. I hit my head and elbow on the wall. The seating on the couch […] was terrible. I think my butt hit the floor when I sat down. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The last night of our stay had power outage. There was no light and aircondition in our room. One staff kept on assuring that the power would be back at anytime. It was very hot in the room that night that we couldnt sleep. We complained the next morning as we checked out and we were told by the reception that she would raise our complaints to the manager […] since she was not there during the incident. We left our details but we havent gotten the manager's answer to our complaints. They should give us INCONVENIENCE DISCOUNT for that night!!!!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for."
This hotel is comparatively cheap and you get what you pay for, nothing more or less. The AC worked on the hotest days of the summer. The water worked. The bedding was clean. The TV had only one working station. But there are no complaints give the price relative to all the other hotels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Decent, affordable, close to convention center"
We were in town for a conference at the McCormick Convention Center and this place was reasonably priced and a 10-15 minute walk away. Service was very friendly and helpful. Room was run-down and shabby, but comfortable and clean enough. We also heard quite a bit of noise from the street below early in the morning as trucks came by. We couldn't get […] the window to close entirely, which made it even worse. A good thing was the Chinese restaurant next door, which was open late and came in handy when we arrived hungry and exhausted near midnight. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Bare bones lodging near McCormick Place"
Thus neighborhood hotel appealed to me because it was 8 blocks from McCormick Place. The added charm of staying right in Chinatown called to me. The room was musty, but the a/c cured that. Staff service near non- existent. Weigh those flaws against the availability to find great ethnic food just a short walk away, and you have a picture of the good […] and the bad of this hotel. I read really bad reviews about this hotel, but I didnt want to spend much money on my stay. Its not fancy, but it has, fridge, microwave, vending machine....for me it was great! "Great hotel for short visit in Chicago"
We played in Chicago three and a half day, and lived there for three nights. The first night we cannot find the hot water in the room, and second day we figured out there is one hot water machine in the lobby. The overall environment is good, but not perfect due to a little noise, which disturbs my girl a little bit. Anyway, a suite w/ two rooms around […] a little more than one big green note definitely worth. During the sight seeing in Chicago, the only unpleasant thing related to this hotel is the Metro red line is shut down for construction between Chinatown and Roosevelt station. And it will be last for 5 months according to the notice. So if you plan a visit to Chicago, and hate transfer public transit all the time, you may consider a hotel locating nearer than Chinatown. Anyway, based on the cleanness and overall comfort, this Chinatown Hotel worth every penny. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beware there is no elevator"
I stayed there for 4 nights with my parents. First up, the hotel is really nice and cheap, considering the location, right at the heart of China Town! Yes, it was very cheap and even though I had to pay $15 extra for car parking every night at the parking lot, I was okay with it. However, I only give 3 stars to the hotel, as they don't have any elevators. […] Wish someone had mentioned that in their review. We had to stay on the 4th floor and had to drag all our luggage up the stairs and this was particularly difficult for my mom. "DO NOT RECOMMEND !!"
if you are budget travelers, it would be good to access downtown easily. Otherwise, very dirty, stink, awful, dangerous. You can hear any noise from the next door. Drinking water for customer was just tap water, not filter water. Room and facility are very different from pictures on the web. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALLGenuine Expedia guest review

"The cheapest I found close to the Loop"
Was very good given I was traveling for business purposes and I only needed a place to crash at night, cheap and close to the center. Best way to travel is by the Red Line, the Cermak-Chinatown station is like 100m away from the hotel and it drops you right on State avenue (after 5 stations) where there're plenty of shops and places to visit. Cabs don't […] really go into Chinatown unless they're dropping off customers, so there're very slim chances to grab one from the street, even if throughout the downtown that's the quickest way to grab one. Calling a cab from the hotel's reception is going to take like 30min in the offpeak, during weekend nights better not rely at all on the cab for going out. No issues of coming in via taxis and it's like a 15$ with the tip from the downtown. Take care if traveling after 19 May 2013 for the upcoming 5 months there're reparations undergoing on the Red Line. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"If you want to same money,"
this is a good hotel to stay. If you want to stay at a clean hotel with decent service, maybe this is not. Please beware. The WiFi signal is weak and the network is not encrypted. The location is best: near metro station, bus station, McCormick Place, etc. And one more: Check-in starts from 3pm, so please don't go there before 3pm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Do not stay here!"
Read the reviews! Believe all of the negative comments! A friend needed to stay here as someone else booked it for her & we joined in. Mistake. "Nice neighborhood, nice people, room falling apart"
While in a fantastic, vibrant neighborhood close to the El train downtown, numerous things were falling apart. There was painting equipment strewn about the hallway. "Not for leisure"
What can I not say about this hotel? Check in was easy. No elevator, if you have knee or back problems, don't stay here! If you are just looking for a place to sleep or shower this is a nice cheap option. The noise level is much lower than downtown. Surrounding area (Chinatown) has some amazing restaurants and boutiques. Very easy to navigate throughout […] the city via red line or CTA buses. Good luck getting a cabby to find it, you'll end up a street over at the firestation. You can tell they do their basic cleaning of linens, however they don't go much beyond that, I found a beer bottle and caps under the bed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Remember it Jake... it's Chinatown!"
This is a very inexpensive hotel. That should be at the forefront of everybody's mind when they consider staying here. This is not the Drake. This is not the Palmer House. But, this is a great hotel. I was in town for a conference at McCormick Place and could not have asked for a better location. Chinatown is amazing, tons of great restaurants and bakeries. […] Easy (and totally safe!) walk between McCormick Place and the Chinatown Hotel. Very near the el. The rooms are small, the amenities are minimal, but the staff is very friendly and gracious, the hotel is clean, and the rooms get the job done. The hotel is not new but is clean and adequate for a place to stay. Was attending a convention near the lake and found the location to be about a 15 minute walking distance. "Basic hotel, no frills"
This hotel is regularly cleaned to a low standard of cleanliness. There is a community refrigerator on the 1st floor (write name and room number on your food), a microwave, a table and some chairs, and a pop machine. The desk is small and a footstool serves as a desk chair. There was very little room to actually sit at the desk to do any work. Sheets, […] spreads, and towels all seemed clean enough, if well-used over the years. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was made up of a very nice family and the hotel stay was ok. When I booked this reservation I was told that there was parking. When I got there there was no parking. They said i could park at a self pay parking a few blocks away. There was no elevator to go to the rooms. You were not able to regulate the room temperature. The television only […] had one channel. Room didn't have a tub, when I asked if I could be moved to a room with a tub they said that there was only one room with a tub and it was the luxury suite. This meant it was more expensive and it was booked. I asked for another pillow and was told they had no more pillows or blankets. You get what you pay for. Easily the cheapest option downtown, and it's surrounded by good food, and 5 minute walk to the red line. Would recommend bringing bedsheets and towels if possible.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great for independent travelers!"
I had a good experience with this hotel. It is what it is, so do not expect a 5-star resort. I didn't read all of the reviews, but you should know: THERE ARE NO ELEVATORS. I stayed on the 2nd floor, and there were about 12 small steps up. Yes, I drug my 50lb bag, and carry-on bag up the stairs. Be prepared for this. ALSO - there are a few steps DOWN […] to the check in desk. LOCATION IS GOOD! Very close to a train station. Can easily get to hotel from either O'Hare or Midway airports. I purchased a $23 7-day pass and used it constantly. Chicago's public transportation is reliable and safe. Study train map before your trip! THE ROOM ITSELF - looked a little dingy, but at least HOUSEKEEPING came DAILY. NO CABLE on the TV - I only got CBS as the only English station with a good signal. THE ROOM KEY resembled a military dog tag - not a regular metal key or a plastic card. THE TRICK TO OPENING the door is to insert the "key" facing away from you, leaving it in the door knob, THEN turning the door knob. After opening the door, remove the "key." WALLS ARE THIN - I think I heard a guy snoring one night, but it was really quiet in my room. I would stay here again - at least I know what to expect now. Have a nice trip!
