"The good, the bad, and the ugly"
The good: reasonably nice staff, comfortable bed, in Chinatown. The bad: not a good wifi signal, almost no tv channel options, tiny room, dated facilities. The ugly: paper thin walls, unruly patrons. I could deal with the good and the bad. However, I could not stand the ugly. My first night I was woken up by two groups of patrons, both on opposite […] sides of my room. They were loud, drunk, cussing, and were ignorant and inconsiderate people to put it nicely. Add in the paper thin walls and your going to have a horrible night. There's also a lot of trains, and ambulances that pass by. The second night there was much more peaceful, thank goodness. I do not recommend this hotel. It's a shame because I love Chinatown. The people in Chinatown were very nice, in general. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"NO PARKING! NO WIFI!"
We went, not expecting a 4-star or anything, but still. First room--toilet had no running water. So up to top floor with heavy luggage--no elevator. Bathroom same size as bedroom--nice but unnecessary--would have been better to have room for another bed. Chair in room not safe to sit on. Paint in room looked like mustard slapped on walls with cheese […] slices. Bed, bath and room appeared clean enough, public area carpets were horrendously stained and dirty, but didnt affect the stay really. Shower was odd and difficult to work. Got extra towels and washcloths when requested, but the "wash cloths" were bigger than hand towels--dont know if that's a Chinese thing or what? There was NO street parking whatsoever, but a nice public lot within a couple blocks for less than two zero dollars. Wifi never worked when we were there. Fire hall less than a block away but didnt disturb sleep. Soooo, kind of a pain to unload in the street and haul luggage in and reverse when leaving. Staff friendly. Coffee in morning and thats all. Chairs in rooms NOT safe to sit in, need to go in the trash. Even if it doesnt fit the decor, get a cheap folding chair for sitting, please. missing screen in window. "Cheap room close to downtown"
This is a decent hotel if you aren't picky. You get what you pay for. I was woken in the middle of the night by the garbage truck outside. The room was clean and comfortable but little. Staff is very friendly but don't all have great English. Very close to train and bus stops to get downtown.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Old hotel in Chinatown"
Great location for the CTA. Right in the heart of Chinatown. The room quality is below average and rooms are quite small. The hotel and rooms have an old, kind of dingy smell to them. The decor is lacking, musty halls, and the lobby is a bit dirty. If you need a place to crash for the night, you'll be just fine, as long as you're not expecting too much. […] Free parking like 5 blocks north on the street, but it can be a bit hard to get a space. Personally, I enjoyed my stay and would be willing to return. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for females or families though, probably just practical males. Bottom line, this is just an old hotel in Chinatown. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Horrible experience would not recommend staying"
This was the most horrific experience of my life, they treated me as if I was some bomb off the street. "Worth a LOT-Definitely a GEM!"
2nd time going to chicago. 1st time I stayed at a different hotel much pricier and actually worse in my opinion. I had read so many mixed reviews on Chinatown Hotel but glad took the chance. My bf and I loved everything about it. It's very cheap and yes not the best of rooms they are a little smaller but for pretty much just sleeping it was perfectly […] great. Parking is simple enough- you either get lucky and park on the street like we did otherwise right around the corner is $14 parking for 24 hrs. Close to transportation, lots of great shops and food in Chinatown. You won't know where to pick. We already plan to continue coming here for future visits. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A small old cozy room"
I booked here because I tried to have some Chinese food for my dinner or breakfast on my way to Milwaukee. But unfortunately, I came too late on Sunday and left too early on Monday, I had neither of them. But this hotel is good. The bedroom is old but clean. It is small: Small shower room in a small rest room, small window, small chairs in a small room […] but it is quiet: quiet surroundings and quiet radiator heater (instead of the fan heater) . And there is a big plat screen TV inside. This TV has many channels in different languages, most of them are English and Spanish (I guess) and only one TV channel in Chinese. "Close parking, delicious food, near the end line"
I loved the convenience of everything! Lots of great restaurants that stay open late, gated nearby parking lots, and right near the red line so it's easier to get around to other areas of the City. The shops were fun too. The hotel staff was friendly. Our bed itself was not comfy and our bathroom sink did not drain quickly. We didn't mind that though […] and plan on staying there again because of how convenient the location was and how cheap it is. That really made it possible for us to spend more than we that we could. It was a mistake to rely on hotels.com! Why should you associate with such hotels? We stayed in Room 203. You can yourself findout...pathetic cleanliness... leaking taps...mould on wall! you do not expect that after paying close to 100$ a night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Trouble in China Town"
There was no free parking across the street as we had read in a review. In fact, there was no open parking that we could find anywhere. All the street spots were taken for blocks and were metered. We waited quite a while before the inn keeper came to the "lobby" in the basement. While we were waiting we checked out the rooms that were open and being […] cleaned. It appeared that the rooms were all tiny with a shared bathroom in the hall. The price was good but we spent $50 more and stayed in a much bigger room with parking, pool, breakfast, internet, spa, and white sheets and white bed spread. We were able to get a refund after seeing the rooms and cancelling our reservation. The Inn keeper was very nice and helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very basic, small facilities. Clean. Noise insulation was marginal. Right in Chinatown. Opportunities for cultural experience were fantastic. It is okay if ur just go to china town. Parking is terrible there dont think i wukd reccomend this place to anyone. I know of better places to stay from my previous trips to chicago. "DO NOT STAY HERE"
The only reason why I stayed at this hotel is because it was inexpensive. The pictures look decent on the website but they are inaccurate. This is a place you want to look past. First of all, the hotel has no elevator. So if you stay on the third floor, you have to carry your own luggage up the stairs by yourself. The hotel has only like 3 channels, […] and those were mostly news channels. The hotel rooms are very small and have a NASTY MOLDY SWEATY ODOR. The bathrooms are very small, the rooms are small, and I didn't even sleep under the covers because I didn't trust the cleanliness. I do not recommend this hotel not even for a street walker. "Prior Comments Were Accurate."
What you have read in other reviews was correct. This is a great hotel if you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel (in a city of overly priced hotels) that also happens to be relatively close to the convention center. If you make a reservation here, let's be perfectly clear as to what you can expect when you arrive. The rooms are adequate but not […] spacious. The bedroom measured approximately 12' X 10' - not exactly cavernous. The sheets and pillow cases were cleaned and changed (as were the bath towels) each day. Unless you speak Mandarin, forget the TV. It has one channel and one channel only which happens to be Taiwanese broadcasting. There is no elevator, so you had better be able to schlep your bags up three flights of stairs. There are no hotel personnel to assist (i.e.. bell men) so you will definitely be the one dragging the bag. In the room, the carpets are in dire need of cleaning, the furniture (desk, chairs) also need to be repaired and/or replaced. Room lighting is poor and dim, and Internet connectivity is spotty at best. Coffee is always available in the lobby area, and a refrigerator and microwave are also available in the same area. The area surrounding the hotel is of course, Chinatown. There are plenty of Chinese restaurants and bakeries in the area, and cabs service is readily available via a direct line to a cab company located at the front desk. Bottom line - you get value here, but think of this place as a very old & tired Hampton Inn. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Run away from this hotel....."
The room smelled musty. The lamp shades were torn. The switches on the lamps did not work, so I had to unplug them and plug them on and off. The carpet was worn. The doors to the closets had been torn off at some point and never replaced. It was also very loud. It was run down, worn out and a truly terrible place to stay. If you're a man looking for […] cheap quarters, its perhaps doable. If you're a woman or with a woman, don't take her here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Stay here every time we visit Chicago"
This is our favorite hotel. It is right along the red line, which makes for easy access to the loop. Unfortunately, this time the station near the hotel was closed, but they had a free shuttle to hook back up with the red line and came quite often. The staff is friendly and there are many delicious restaurants nearby. We enjoyed chinese food as well […] as deep dish pizza at Connie's which is about 10 minutes away by foot. The best thing about this hotel is the price and its location. This hotel is for people that are going to be out and about most of the day, and just need a place to sleep for the night. It is not luxurious by any means, so don't expect a 5 star hotel stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Better than I'd expected, based on other reviews.."
Arrived and was able to check in immediately. Young gentleman behind the counter couldn't have been nicer. I'd been a bit nervous about the room condition based on some of the reviews I'd read, but I was pleasantly surprised when we opened the door and it smelled clean- not a manufactured clean smell, like fabric refresher- just a generally clean/clear […] smell. Sheets were clean, bathroom clean enough... all's well. Coffee is free in the morning in the lounge downstairs, and there's a communify refrigerator there for guests who need to keep something cold. All in all, a clean, quiet place to sleep after an amazing concert! :) All we needed! Oh- the key that someone had complained about? AWESOME. It's a metal disk that resembles a dog tag. You slip it into a thin slot on the door knob itself and turn the handle while the disk is inside. Never seen one before and... want one! :) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great location for the price. No TV service, elevators and the wifi did not work on the 3rd floor. But nice area in Chinatown & great food at local restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for McCormick and Redline"
Though the lobby is plain, the hallway carpet atrocious, the wifi slow, you can't beat the three blocks to McCormick and 50 yards to the Red Line and Divvy bikes. If you plan to work in your room, stay someplace else, they are tiny, but if you don't mind Eastern Europe tourist class hotels, this will play.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, cheap,"
This hotel is old and much in need of a face lift. The room was tiny and the furniture was literally falling apart. The location is right in China Town and very convenient. "We've Never Stayed In A Place Like This Before"
I only entered the lowest rating for this hotel because I wasn't allowed to rate a "zero". One star is generous. Chinatown isn't far from the downtown/loop area, so location isn't bad. Sadly, that's all this place has going for it. The room was on the small side and filthy. The room we had was immediately above the lobby and the outside street parties […] every night (at least, that's what it sounded like) don't help much with the sleep. We were given large hand towels to shower with, the bed didn't have fitted sheets or a clean comforter, and the air conditioner either blew ice, or didn't work. Any time we asked the front desk for anything (more towels, clean sheets, etc), we had to pick them up ourselves at the desk. To call this a flophouse is being polite. Buyer beware. "I would go back!"
When we arrived, the lady at the desk immediately told us that if we can get a spot on 22nd st (street of the hotel) that parking was free. Totally awesome for Chicago! She also upgraded us (for no reason at all) to a suite, which was like a little apartment, it had a jacuzzi in the living room part of it. The couches in there were disgusting though, […] I would not touch them. Other than that our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable! Walking around Chinatown was very neat too! Totally authentic. I would recommend it to others who are like me and like a change of scenery. It's not a Hilton or anything upscale or fansy. One thing I did not like is; we got back to the hotel around 2 am and the doors were locked, we had to ring a bell and wait for someone to come let us in. Other than that, I would deffinetly stay again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and great location"
Great for the low maintenance traveler. I'm glad I wasn't dissuaded by some of the quite negative reviews. It is not the height of luxury... but it was quite comfortable, the location was fun, and the people at the front desk were courteous and helpful. -cleanliness: I do admit I found a peanut shell under the bed when I was trying to find a shoe. There […] were no questionable spots or smells on the bedding (which was nicer than I expected... soft blankets and firm beds) or in the bathroom, so I don't feel it was a problem. -stairs: carpeted and with room for two to walk side by side. Didn't see an elevator. Main desk is on the ground floor and highest floor is 3rd. We packed lightly though and didn't have a problem. -internet: free wi-fi no hassles -tv: looked nice but didn't turn it on. Probably worked great :) -food: not included or at hotel but lots of places including great pastries and dim sum within 2 blocks -parking: two lots next to each other with lots of space about 2 blocks away. $14 for 24 hrs. When we left around noon on Sunday the lots were full but coming and going in the mornings/evenings there was always lots of space. -non car transport: there is a water taxi stop for Chinatown, the red line of the L train usually stops here but is currently under construction until "October 2013" Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Hotel has 3 floors so don't pack heavy luggage cause there are no elevators. Rooms are basic and small but didn't matter cause wasn't in the room that much anyway. AC worked great and had a room looking out over the main street. All the signs in the area are lite up at night and really neat to see. "A "15 Minute Walk to the Convention Center" Hotel"
The Chinatown Hotel is a no-frills hotel that costs less than $100 per night. If you're looking for a hotel that offers a free breakfast, a refrigerator in the room, valet service, or a free shuttle service, this isn't the place for you. There is a residential style refrigerator in the lounge / kitchenette area which is shared by all, as well as a soda […] machine and 2 small ice-makers. Internet WiFi in the room leaves much to be desired, but I was told the signal in the lounge area was much better. There is a computer and printer in the lounge area if needed. Rooms are not spacious, and there is no elevator. Television channels are limited, and don't expect any pay channels or ESPN. AMEX and Discover are not accepted, but VISA and Mastercard are. However, if you're only looking for an inexpensive hotel room with a clean comfortable bed to sleep in at night, this is the place for you. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the room, though small, was clean. Located in the heart of Chinatown, there is no "McDonalds" to speak of, but every other building seemed to be a Chinese restaurant while every 3rd or 4th seemed to be a gift shop. The CTA Chinatown-Cemack train station is nearby (though currently closed for remodeling but a free shuttle will take you to the next closest station.) The Convention Center is a short 15 minute walk. I did not spend much time in my room except to sleep, so accommodations were perfect for me. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great for the budget-conscious."
This hotel has few amenities. The carpet and wall treatments are outdated and very few of the rooms have a view of something other than the brick walls of the adjacent buildings.
