Kimpton hotels are all so convenient and they try so hard to please. The staff are friendly if a little young, the common parts are welcoming, the room size and comfort all good. The pool area could have been a little better but it was labor day weekend and lots of kids descended on the place. I would definately stay again!

Great location in Gaslamp Quarter - perect for bars, restaurants and shopping and also the baseball. Beware though, there is a lot of building going on in Gaslamp with work starting at 7am on weekdays. Other than that the pool area and J Six bar is great fun. Definitely a good place to stay in San Diego.

We really enjoyed the Solamar. It's a five minute walk to the convention center and nicely located in the Gas Lamp District. Hotel parking is expensive, but there is a lot directly across the street for twenty dollars less on weekdays. Relatively quiet and a great bed.

This Hotel seemed dated. The lobby was nice but my room was sub par. The T.V. was off the the left of the bed so you had to keep your head turned while sitting up, Sheets and bed felt old and cheap along with the pillows. Top sheet had a eyeshadow stain on it. Bathroom towels were cheap and well used and Valet costs $35 a day. No internet unless you want to fork over another $10 per day and there were dogs allowed in the hotel and rooms?? Ive stayed in several hotels in San Diego, a better choice is the Hilton by the convention center or the hotel that is connected to the Horton Plaza mall in downtown. ( cant remember name) these hotels cost about the same but have nicer rooms.

When I got there, my reservation could not be found. Rather than consider it could be a computer glitch, the clerk made me feel as though it was my mistake. When i provided the proof that I had already paid, he finally had to admit it was a mistake on their side. We finally got to our room and the key didn't work. Then, the room was the wrong room, we were supposed to have a suite. Finally, someone else got it all figured out, thank goodness for her! The say itself was good after a bad start.

I stayed at the Hotel Solamar- A Kimpton Hotel for a conference taking place at the San Diego Convention Center. The hotel is located a few blocks' walk from the convention center, in a great area (the Gaslight District) with many restaurants and shops. The hotel room was good-sized, very clean and well appointed, and very comfortable. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again in a minute, especially at the price I paid- half of what a room at one of the conference headquarters hotels would have cost, at the "special" conference rate!

This is a terrific hotel in a really desirable location, I would absolutely recommend staying here. The style is very luxurious and modern, and the pet-friendly aspect is great. The staff was gracious and helpful, and I was especially impressed with the hotel's complimentary wine hour! That was a treat. Parking is expensive (but this is an avoidable expense), and the cleaning crew gets noisy as early as 9 in the morning, but other than that, it was a perfect stay.

Parking, they charge guests 35 dollars for a 24 hour period. For (non guest) 8 hour event parking you pay 10 dollars which equals 30 dollars for a 24 hour period. They guest are getting ripped off and they have to pay for their room???? Just another way to rip of the consumer. There is public parking 2 blocks away fro 12 dollars a day. Other than that great hotel.

Lobby was great and our room was roomy. Loved the decor. Valet svc was expensive but it seemed like all hotels charge for parking in SD, anyway. Valet guys were very friendly. Didn't swim in the pool -- pretty small and the space was shared with non-swimming guests (diners, wt room, bar, etc). Beds sagged in the middle, I was surprised beds with springs were still in use?? Although I knew that internet wasn't free and cont b'fast not provided, it is still something that should be standard (especially if touting as an upscale hotel). Using the internet in their business room even had a fee! Rooftop bar was nice, though, especially when the Padres' game was broadcast.
