Great hotel and I'd return for sure, but two things to be aware of ... the Internet service is EXTREMELY slow and there are no drawers in the room. Odd, right? Anyway, it's a nice place though and the staff is well-trained and very nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Love that everything is in walking distance and hotel staff is amazing!. So quiet! Even with our room above the pool and bar area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hotel in in GasLamp!"
Wonderful stay. My wife and I had a quick 1 night getaway to enjoy a San Diego Padre game and what the GasLamp District has to offer. Great location. 2 blocks from Petco Park and 1 block from 5th street where the main Restuarants and bars are located. Room and hotel amenities are great!. Enjoyed the pool lounge after hours. Great vibe and good drinks. Had […] an issue with valet upon checkout. Took 20 minutes for them to get our car and it could have been longer. They lost the ticket! When we asked about our vehicle, he basically did not care that we had waited that long, and did not offer anytype of apology. We complained to the front desk and they were apologetic and gave us credit on the overnight valet parking, which was $41.00 Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not worth the money"
Nothing about this hotel justifies the cost. Only plus was the pool and location. However pool area is very small and folks up quickly so get a spot early.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very nice hotel ! Tiny pool. Parking at the hotel $$!!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a great time and it was a very convenient location.Genuine Expedia guest review
Rooms are extremely dated, furniture is worn, curtains were dirty and torn, beds are on old squeky box springs ( dont look under the bed), this a pet friendly hotel so be prepared to hear the barking of both small and large dogs, guest overnight parking was high at $41 a night. Not what you would expect for $275.00 a night. The upside we could find […] was the easy access to the psrts of Gas Lamp we love. We will not be staying here again! "Above and beyond great customer service"
Loved this hotel, perfect location in the gas lamp district. Restaurant was great, all organic. My husband left his backpack near valet and they notified us via expedia. They were great! They attempted to fedex it back to our hotel in Disney but the fedex person messed that up so they drove it to us!! The valet guys were awesome! Highly recommend this […] hotel! Everything about the Solamar was great! Location is fantastic and convenient to all downtown and the Petco Park. Would stay again. The wine & beer tasting was add taste of the class of the Solamar.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very cool hotel"
I stayed there for three nights. Was very nice all around. Lots of great things to do nearby: restaurants, marina walks, trolly, parks, etc. Very friendly and helpful staff. The only issue I had was that the first room they gave me was one floor above the pool and looking right at it, which isn't bad cause there are lots of hotties there - but there […] is a club there too. So the music thumping at night was permeating my room. I asked them to move me across the hall away from the pool and they did without a problem (the view wasn't as good, but it was quiet). I'd definitely go back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice hotel but ..."
The staff was friendly and outgoing, the rooms were comfortable, the elevators were quick. The happy hour was well put together. I really enjoyed my stay and only had two frustrations. The on property parking seemed expensive and the refrigerator was too full of bar items for purchase to be useful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"We Didn't Want to Leave"
My husband and I wanted to get away for our 25th anniversary, but our son graduated high school and we had a party for him, so we decided to take a long weekend trip to San Diego for the July 4th weekend as a belated getaway. The staff was so friendly, our room was spacious and very comfortable. They even sent up a bottle of champagne because of our […] anniversary and arranged a reservation for us at a restaurant with a view of the July 4th fireworks over Mission Bay. I liked that the shower had a rack with full sized shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel with pumps. Very convenient. We were within walking distance of the trolley and lots of bars and restaurants. We were able to take the trolley to the USS Midway and Old Town. It was a great homebase for a visit to Balboa Park. I really appreciated the blister kit that was in the minibar. It was reasonably priced and saved me having to take my blistered heels down to CVS. I was really sad to leave and will definitely be going back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, good location"
A very nice hotel, good location in Gaslamp district very near lots of bars/restaurants/attractions. Mostly a very quiet hotel, and I loved that it's so dog-friendly (was able to bring my small dog with no problems whatsoever). However, for the room price, I'd expect a little bit "more"…..it was definitely "very nice", but not amazing. The pool is nice, […] but again, I felt it could've been nicer for the overall hotel pice. We thought we were upgrading from the Palomar, but….maybe we should've just saved the $$ & kept our original reservation. The staff was lovely, and liked that they had loaner bikes (but, only 2….so you had to act quickly in order to secure one). Room & overall hotel was very clean. Overall: very nice hotel, but maybe a bit on the overpriced side. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not for over 30"
Much younger crowd especially around the pool. The staff was courteous, though housekeeping was spotty. We needed to request the ice bucket be emptied, leave clean glasses, etc. Won't return. Just not worth the price.Genuine Expedia guest review
Stayed 1 night and even though I had a credit card on file with front desk . I could not order a pay per view movie . The person that was going to go to our room to fix problem. Never showed I called front office to cancel his appearance But overall it was good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"WoW...I paid for this...."
The Hotel is in a GREAT location. The staff was very helpful. I Travel for business often, I have stayed at other Kimptons. This one was disappointing. Lobby was dark and not inviting, Bed was uncomfortable, Squeaky and could feel the springs, bedding felt worn and feathers were clumped at the corners. The elevators were filthy. Pool lounge restroom […] showed rust around the ceiling lights and paint was bubbling on ceiling and walls. Better choices near by. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This is our first time staying at this hotel, driving up to the valet, we were greeted with a $41 parking, which I feel is excessive. When we walked in, the lobby was really small but nice, the front desk was courteous. Now to the bad part, when we got to our room, my wife and kids was visibly disappointed , the room was small, gloomy feel, the bed […] was squeaky and no view, I immediately went to the front desk to get an upgrade, on the the way down, I was greeted by 2 very nice ladies from housekeeping (Luz and Lydia) they saw that I was upset and in their own unique way tried to help me, I thought that was really nice of them to go above and beyond their duties to help out , a warm smile , extra robes for the kids and nice compliments goes a long way, the hotel itself is average at best, but the staff, especially Luz, Lydia and Ana is second to none Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was great, and the best part about it was the location. Parking was pretty expensive compared to other big city hotels I've stayed at ($41) but it was alright. They also have an awesome complementary happy hour. It was literally one hour but it was the perfect amount before going out on the town. Definitely worth staying atGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel & location, bad housekeeping"
We're San Diego natives coming back to visit family & friends, so this review doesn't really focus on the (excellent) location of the hotel for tourists. Our second stay at this location. Location, amenities, room, etc. were great. Pretty clean, nice decor. Valet was very good (this has occasionally been an issue at Kimpton hotels). Rates were quite […] good. Room location with adjoining wall to service elevator not a plus. Housekeeping didn't come-- and we were out of our room for 11 hours b/w 9am and 9pm. So when we arrived back after 9pm and called down to say that housekeeping never came, we were told, oh, well they're very busy getting rooms ready for guests checking in. After 9pm on a Saturday? Very odd and not satisfactory; Kimpton desk employees need training in service recovery. Overall, good, but enough issues that we'll only stay again if there's a crazy good rate (too many unknowns/unpredictables). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Solamar. Although the valet parking could have been a little less; everything else about it was great! The free "happy hour" was a great perk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We love Kimpton Hotels and try to stay in one, wherever we go. We often travel with our dogs and Kimpton Hotels roll out the red carpet for them. This time, it was just us. The Hotel Solamar is a little jewel, right downtown San Diego. It is whimsical and welcoming. The room is well appointed and comfortable. We look forward to our next stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel in the middle of the Gaslamp district"
Solid hotel, I would stay there again. Walking distance to Petco park, the convention center and numerous bars and restaurants. It can be a bit loud due to the bar scene. The staff were top notch and responsive to guest needs. The negatives to this place include a nice looking bathroom sink that isn't convenient or functional (too shallow - splashes […] EVERYWHERE, faucet gets in your way...), they need a real electric car charger (not just a 110v/12amp wall outlet), The cabinet door hiding the mini-fridge was uneven and got stuck on the carpet. Loud late night club music during special events in downtown. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
One of the best hotels I have stayed at. The staff was friendly, helpful and made sure our stay was perfect. Really like how the hotel was walking distance to restaurants, night life and shopping. "Meh...checked out early..."
The room was just "alright". Not bad but not really that "fresh" and kind of small. Also, when we received a call from the front desk about our dog barking, we tried to find out when it had happened and for how long and they would not answer the question. They hung up before we even told them we'd leave the ball game immediately to come back and check […] on our dogs (who were not barking when we arrived at our room). Lots of very loud late arriving guests (from "amateur nights" in Gaslamp District. Also, very "nickel and dime" with charges; $41/night valet parking, charged for WiFi (in 2014?!?!) and a $6 "service charge" on room service orders? And room service did not even start until 7AM! No coffee pot in room. We checked out early and spent the second night of our stay at the new Residence Inn just kitty corner from here. To be fair, they did allow our refund of our second night room charges (through Expedia). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location and amenities"
Room cleanliness and hotel amenities were great. Staff was excellent and really worked to accommodate us. We arrived from the east coast at 10 am and went to the hotel to store our bags awaiting the check in time. The had our room already available and went ahead and checked us in! We enjoyed the pool area a lot and the complimentary wine at the happy […] hour social. We had free wireless the whole time. Our room overlooked the pool and was a little noisy from the music being played and the bed wasn't very comfortable but other than that we really enjoyed it and for sure we would return. We didn't rent a car so didn't need parking...a good thing as it was $41 a nite. That adds up fast. Fortunately everything was so close that we didn't need a car! "Walking distance to so many things"
We loved staying at the Solamar. Easy, convenient, stylish and with a wonderful pool area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I booked my stay for 3 nights well in advance of the SD marathon June 1st. My mistake was choosing a hotel from the Expedia unpublished list. Never do that again. I read all the disclosures and once you book there is no changes allowed. No problem so I thought. My plans changed I could not check in the first night I figured since my reservations were […] for 3 nights pre-paid and confirmed so when I showed up for the 2nd night - NO ROOM for me!! I was schooled in no uncertain terms that since I did not check in for the first night they let my room go and I needed to pay prevailing rates if I wanted a room. The manager was rude and no help at all. Fortunately Expedia stepped up on my behalf and they were able to obtain a refund for the 2 nights remaining which I quickly used to book a suite at the Hard Rock. So, this hotel Solamar is off my list-not very friendly to distressed visitors. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Overnight parking fee was excessive - $41 night"
Great hotel however I was displeased that Expedia did not disclose the overnight parking fee. You indicated there are fees. Typically they might be $15, etc. but this hotel charged $41. "Bring an extra wash cloth"
Very strange experience. When we first arrived, we thought that the hotel looked nice, modern and well-designed. It was really a facade. When we entered our room, the bathtub was partially filled with water and the faucet continually leaked. The bathroom door handle kept coming off. It seems that they must have a one wash cloth per room rule no matter […] how many guests are staying in it. Worse, when housekeeping cleaned the room, they would only leave whatever amount of toilet paper was on left the role and did not provide a backup. We were repeatedly calling down for more wash cloths, extra towels and toilet paper. Housekeeping staff was always friendly, but we often faced the usual language barrier. The TV remote takes a bit more practice to get the free stations as it is geared toward making you pay-per-view. That, of course, is when the TV is working. Ours had to be reset. There are some pluses. The king size bed was comfortable, staff members were courteous and the hotel is about a block from Petco Park. Don't pay the hotel's high dollar-a-night parking fee. There is a public parking lot on the street, about a block away. They do not have in and out privileges there, but we parked for three days for about a third of what it would have cost us to valet. Plus. the attendant at the public lot told us that this is where the hotel valets park the cars anyway. I am giving this hotel a couple of stars for the pleasant staff, but a getaway vacation should not be this frustrating. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were there for 3 days to do "a lot", Close to everything, went to the ball game, 2 minute walk. Parking is expensive, but worth the $41/day. Only advice would be, if you're looking for a good night sleep, ask for higher floor, and NOT pool side, (music is a bit of a drag :-( )Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel and Comfortable."
Great Hotel location and I enjoyed the stay here. Roomy King size scenic room and bathroom. Only two downfalls I saw was the parking which is steep at $41 a night and my jacuzzi tub didn't work =[... Other then that highly recommend itGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Right in the middle of Gaslamp Square"
The hotel was very convenient to walk to everything including the Padres Ball Park. Beautiful roof top pool. Smaller hotel so it was easy to get to room. Only negative is valet parking is $41 per day. We found a parking garage 2 blocks away for $15 for 24 hours and we did not need a car.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was super-friendly. Great location in Gaslamp if that's what you're looking for. Cool, clean modern vibe that we're into. Made us interested in keeping Kimpton in mind when we look for hotels in the future.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Noisy hotel lacking comfort"
I stayed in three different rooms in two days at this hotel. The final one, a corner suite, was the best but still not worth the hefty price tag. Hotel Solamar is a three star hotel at best, and I'm really not a hotel snob. My main issues were a lack of sound proofing (the pool/bar area on the forth floor is incredibly loud, as is the construction across […] the street). Also disappointed that when attempting to order room service my call went to voicemail - I've never experienced that in a hotel. All of the little details you would think a four star hotel would get right failed during my stay: hair in the bathtub, broken electrical outlets, unprogrammed clocks, water pressure, front door staff to open door. I had really high hopes for this place but sadly would never return to a Kimpton hotel in the future. If you want to treat yourself, try another hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Room service quality is wonderful which is always a plus when you're a vegetarian or vegan on the road. The rooms are gorgeous and you get all walks of life in this hotel so that its not too intimidating with its 'cool' image. that's what i appreciated most as i like diversity. "Master room is pretty nice."
Really enjoyed relaxing in the bathtub/jacuzzi, the room was comfortable, although it could have been more colorful. The shower floor could have been cleaner (a bit grimey further from the drain area), but overall it was a very nice bathroom. The in-room bar is overly expensive, and I didn't realize that coffee pots are by request only. The hotel location […] (right next to the Padres ballpark/Gaslamp) probably makes this room twice as costly, and I feel like parking should have been included. "Nice, Quiet hotel in the heart of Downtown"
The hotel was very pleasant. Perfect location for nightlife, surrounded by shops, restaurants and bars. Petco Park, the baseball stadium is around the block so if you get a room facing it, you may be able to watch a Padres game from your room. I did find the bathroom a little odd, sliding door with no lock. The hotel staff is very courteous and helpful, […] especially when you want to find a place to eat. They know the best spots!
