"Great hotel"
We booked this hotel for our 20th anniversary. I could not think of anything I did not like while staying there. Rooms and common areas are very clean; staff is friendly, helpful and polite with the personal touch. A gentleman who checked us in remembered my husband’s name at the checkout. Housekeeping service is great and most of the time invisible: […] we did not have to trip over people vacuuming hallways and dusting lobby and yet everything looked perfect. If there was reduced staff during the holidays (we arrived on Christmas eve), it did not show in the quality of service. Hotel was tastefully decorated for the holidays maintaining overall contemporary and hip feel. Morning coffee and afternoon wine and well as Christmas breakfast buffet were nice. Thank you everyone for creating a wonderful holiday break for me and my husband. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Parking way over priced but otherwise great"
Everything was excellent, with the exception of the parking. $40 per night for my car is way overpriced. That said the area is covered in cheaper parking at 10-17$ per night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Solamar, a Kimpton Hotel Hello Luke, Thanks for staying with us, appreciate the kind words about your experience. Also appreciate the feedback about parking. We work to stay within the range of hotels similar to us that can also offer unlimited 'In and Out' service in a secure, covered space. We found we were right there in pricing with the other ones, so felt it was a good match. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon. Robert General Manager Hotel Solamar
"Great place to stay."
Very nice and quiet hotel, staff was great. You can get free internet by signing up for their "Kimpton Club". The $40 a day to park your car is kinda crazy, but there is a lot accross the street $25, or a parking garage next door for even less.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hotel Solamar, a Kimpton Hotel Dear Michael, Thanks so much for the feedback, appreciate the comments about your stay with us especially the kind words about our staff. Regarding parking, we've found it's in line with what other hotels in our range are charging. There certainly are other options though, and we're always happy to make a recommendation! Thanks again for joining us and come back soon. Robert General Manager

"Location,location,location!"
I had been to San Diego before, but never stayed downtown. The Hotel Solamar is in a great location. You can walk to Petco park ,the convention center or the trolley stop if your going out to the football stadium. It is also 1 block from 5th Ave that has bars, restaurants and night clubs. The hotel staff is very helpful and friendly. It also has a roof […] top pool with a lounge if you don't want to venture out. And here is a cool plus they have a wine hour from 5-6p every night which is a good transition from doing daytime tourist stuff to your evening out. The rooms are clean and have modern furnishings, but do not have a lot of places to hang things in the bathroom if you spend a lot of time at the pool or the beach. Also there were no drawers to put my clothes in so you have to put everything in the closet. (Not a Deal Breaker) The gym is small ,but enough equipment to get some exercise. The biggest negative about this place is the expensive parking it's $40 a nite. There are parking lots all around you can use or if you get lucky you can find street parking which you will have to feed the meter til 6p. Overall I really enjoyed this place and would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Gaslamp location."
This hotel is in the Gaslamp area downtown close to the football stadium. One block over on fifth street are many good restaurants and night clubs. We parked in a lot across the street for $25.00 per night. We could have taken a cab to the zoo but preferred to drive. Everything along the water front is within walking distance. They have free wine from […] five to seven PM. The only thing we would have like is something to heat water in. We like to have a cup of tea in the evening but they had no facility in the room for that. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. We will stay there again. "Great location for young couples!!!"
I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Solamar. I have never stayed in a Kimpton hotel before, but I was quite pleased. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but never overbearing or obtrusive. One of the reasons I changed my reservation from another hotel to the Solamar was because of the wine hour. I wasn't sure what to expect (free wine, […] could it actually be good?), but a limited selection of decent red/white wines and a quiet, intimate atmosphere in which to enjoy them along with my significant other was a great way to start off the evening. You couldn't ask to be better situated re: distance to either the convention center or general Gaslamp attractions (bars/restaurants/shops). We walked to any destination in the Gaslamp. Parking per day is quite costly, but since we didn't rent a car it wasn't an issue for us. An occasional affordable cab drive was very reasonable, especially considering the convenience of not having to drive ourselves. The staff were courteous, attentive and friendly throughout our stay. While our room was not large, it more than accommodated us and our belongings. The only (slight) negative was that the bed could probably have been a bit more comfortable, but that may just be a personal preference...I didn't have any difficulty sleeping, I just prefer softer bedding. If I come to San Diego in the future, I certainly hope that I can book a room here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel"
Stayed here one night, was perfect. Like most places in the area, overnight parking was very pricey ($40) but there was a self park lot across the street for 25. Not a knock against the hotel, just something to keep in mind.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Solamar, a Kimpton Hotel Thank you for choosing Hotel Solamar! I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay. "amazing hotel"
Overall, I give this hotel a solid A. It was very clean, the service was great, the rooms were nice and modern, bathroom was Caribbean-esque and beautiful, and location is SUPERB. You can't get a better location...walking to all the bars/restaurants in Gaslamp. Just purely the perfect spot. They allow pets, so if you are not a dog lover, this hotel […] may not be fore you. My downsides: Parking is $40 a night, so be sure to park your rental car across the street at the garage for 15 bucks a night. Save your money, don't park at the hotel unless you're loaded and don't care. Lastly, soft beds...I prefer firmness in a mattress. That's it. My gf and I had an amazing time at this hotel and I'm sure you will enjoy it just the same! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Solamar, a Kimpton Hotel Thank you so much for your "A" review! We're glad you enjoyed the beachy feel of our rooms and our great location in the Gaslamp! While we are indeed a pet-friendly hotel, we have 3 dedicated pet-free floors. We do conduct regular rate surveys of our parking, and we are right in line with other hotels in the area. As you noticed, there are There certainly are less expensive options in the area, but they won't necessarily come with the security and convenience. Loved this hotel! The room was very clean and modern, and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was lovely, though it may be a bit small for two people. The morning coffee was very good, and there was a nice selection of newspapers. My only complaints are the lack of a full-length mirror in the room and how the internet would occasionally stop […] working. When it did work it was very fast. "$40 per night for guest parking!!!!"
Very friendly, accommodating staff. Good location. I accidentally left my wallet in the seat of car after unloading. Valets parked car; looked for wallet, but could not find. I went with another valet and found wallet on seat of car. $40 per night for parking is ridiculous for a hotel guest. Designer sinks combined with high sink faucet in bathroom […] ''cause lots of unnecessary and messy splashing. Extremely high charges for adult movies ($35). Hotel seemed overpriced. No gift shop on premises (CVS 2 blocks away). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hotel Solamar, a Kimpton Hotel Dear Harry, Thanks for the comments, we really appreciate your joining us. While I'm happy about the kind words about our great team, I'm especially grateful for the feedback about where we can improve. Regarding the parking, our parking costs include the Valet service, as well as unlimited 'In and Out' meaning you can take your car whenever you want without additional fees. Your car will always remain safe, secure and accessible in our covered parking. That said, we do want to make sure we remain competitive, so we do regular parking rate surveys on the area and other hotels (in fact, we did one this month). We've found that we're competitive to the other hotels in our area. There certainly are less expensive options in the area, but they won't necessarily come with the security and convenience. Regarding the Video on Demand, we're not at the prices mentioned. Actually about $20 lower, so we'll look into the system to make sure it's posting correctly. Hope that helps, thanks so much for joining us and we hope to welcome you back to sunny San Diego soon! Robert General Manager Hotel Solamar - a Kimpton Hotel
