Eva's Escape at the Gardenia Inn - San Antonio

Deborah and her staff have created a home full of love and charm. The neighborhood is safe and delightful to walk around in, we found Rosario's to be delicious (try the fish dishes for something healthy), but most of the time we just wanted to hang out in our room. We stayed in the Lavender room, which was beautiful and relaxing. The claw foot tub was […] decadent and the veranda so soothing. The individual A/C unit was a little loud, so we turned it off at night and relied on the ceiling fan to keep us cool. Considering it was early summer, this technique worked well. And the breakfast the following morning was prepared and presented with so much intention and thought. I loved each bite and the stories of each dish. Our meal was: fruit salad, biscuits and croissant, roasted potatoes with herbs, egg roulade, and ham. And when I mentioned to Deborah that I was getting over a cold she quickly offered a packet of Emergen'C. So much sweetness-- it made for a romantic and delightful weekend. Thank you, Deborah! If you prefer to leave the car parked and walk, this is the place. Quick access to the riverwalk below the dam. From there its 10 minutes to the main loop. The Innkeeper Deb is wonderful..The rooms are clean and decorated with antiques..Only thing that was a problem for us was there was just a tub and no shower in our room..So if a shower is what you need make sure to book a room with one..Don't assume they are in every room like we did..

We had a great time in San Antonio and the location was beautiful: Love the owner, her food, company, ambiance, beverages, toiletries provided, so close to the river, to the the hot spots in town, great neighborhood/historical... literally everything. Why would I stay in a different room (we stayed in the Lily room) and/or different hotel: 1) The bathroom […] in the Lily room is literally a very small closet. I am a 5'6" petite female and found it incredibly difficult to even bathe in it. My issue is that they didn't disclose this or mention it anymore on the site. I wish I would have known and I would have selected a different room. That is my main issue. 2) The tvs are state of the art and you have free movies and shows on demand(awesome)... basically the network is shared, so when we tried to watch regular tv, we could not because it would only let us if we chose to disconnect someone elses and when we were watching movies it suddenly stopped connecting. It took me over an hour to figure out (which it really was just waiting for it to fix itself bc nothing I was doing was working and I'm tech savy), we had called the contacct numbers for questions/issues listed on the back of the door and nobody, to this day, has responded. It's been about 3 months at least since then and we had called both numbers and left a voicemail. Again, it wasnt an emergency, but I found it really concerning that nobody, in the case of an actual emergency, even responded ... at any point. Read more

Our stay at the Gardenia Inn was absolutely wonderful! We went to San Antonio to see the DCI at the Alamo Dome and the Inn was in a perfect spot. It was within walking distance of the river walk and a short distance from the Dome. The Inn keeper, Deborah, was so welcoming and accommodating. We stayed in the Lily Room, on the first floor, and the wood carved bedding was beautiful. Each day, after returning for the afternoon, from the heat, drinks and refreshments were waiting in the entry to enjoy and cool down on. If you are interested in a nice quiet, comfortable, place to relax and be at the center of all of the San Antonio hot spots this is the place to stay. Also, if you enjoy tea there is a wonderful tea house right across the street and a local Italian restaurant around the corner. We stayed for a conference at one of the bigger hotels, and then came to the Gardenia Inn for 3 nights when the conference was over. I sure wish we had stayed at the Gardenia Inn for the entire time! It was so calm and peaceful, and just beautiful. And the cleanliness - off the charts. I had to duck under the bed to reach an outlet - I came out expecting […] to wipe off a few dust bunnies - not one! John is so super nice - the best host. He made us feel relaxed and and cared for. He told us some great places to eat - especially this little family restaurant next door called Titos - amazing! And the breakfasts he cooked were wonderful, especially his oatmeal pancakes. John was very attentive from the moment we arrive, he suggested places to eat and see and do. Wonderful accommodations and excellent location. B&B is served by the trolley which runs from 7 am to 9 pm. Walking distance to riverwalk and several good restaurants. Highly recommend this B&B as an alternative to hotel if you want to be near river walk and downtown sites.
