The first room we were given had not been fully cleaned. The front desk agent was very responsive, and gave us a new (and clean) room immediately. Our room was an accessible room (I need to help my wife with most activities), and the layout was very strange. The bathroom door opened the wrong way, so you couldn't open the door to let a scooter in without […] first driving to the room door and turning around. The bed was very bouncy, and not particularly comfortable. The pillows were very firm. Unfortunately, we like soft pillows, and they were not an option. Overall, this is a place that is OK if you intend to arrive, crash, and get up early to drive the next day. Definitely not more than a one-night hotel. Read more

The hotel was fine. But it was completely booked with many young people playing in a Gus Macker basketball tournament. We wish that the hotel staff had the forthought to put us as far from the kids as possible, but we seemed to be right in the middle of them. Hotel is the most cost effective for the Olean area. Since we were visiting my wife's sisters, we spent 90% of our time away from the hotel. My wife likes pools, but this one wasn't properly ventilated.

I would have been better sleeping on the floor as the bed was hard as a rock! I have stayed here before and had a wonderful stay but this was much different. We complained/questioned one of the hotel staff as to the difference in the beds and to see if they had any other rooms available but we were advised that they were all like this and the hotel […] had changed to cheaper beds to save $. He even went on saying that he woulnd't sleep in them either and that they receive complaints on them all the time. My two sisters and I stayed at the Best Western Plus University Inn for a weekend stay. The staff was very friendly and professional. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The breakfast was warm and fresh and the dining are was kept very clean. My only complaint is that though we were in a non-smoking room, every morning the […] smell of cigarette smoke filled our room from the ventilation system. When I had mentioned this to the front desk they admitted that unfortunately the smoking rooms are on the third floor on the left half of the building and for some reason the smell does drift into the ventilation. They apologized but could not offer any room on the right half of the building because they were full. If they could ever fix this problem then it would be an even better place to stay. Have stayed at Best Western for several years now. Location is convenient to our family. Breakfast is adequate. What I am most upset about is poor attitude of most of the staff and their pure laziness. I witnessed an elderly man cleaning tables at breakfast so others could sit down while an employee ate her meal while watching tv. I went to use the […] email service and was told by the intolerably annoying male early morning/overnight employee to wait a few minutes as he was almost done with his email! Are you kidding me? In this economy, with so many layoffs around us, how can people be so lackadaisical? How can a hotel run properly like this? The pool had not one clean towel to be found and the water smelled of sewage. BW Olean, NY is heading downhill fast. Unless corporate spot checks these employees, I see many going elsewhere. We will likely pay the extra money and stay at Hampton Inn! Very sad...very sad. Read more

Olean is a cute little town and our Best Western stay was perfect. The girls at the front desk were pleasant and helpful. They provided a treat and coffee/tea in the afternoon and the breakfast was fresh and yummy. The only negative was the smoke smell in the elevator. However, our room was completely odor free.

The one drawback was that we arrived when this facility was bulging with 10- and 11-year olds there for a Little League baseball tournament. Their only gathering place was in the lobby, only a very few feet from the front desk plus the tables and chairs set up for the complimentary breakfast. We had to turn sideways or ask people to move so we could […] get to and from the elevator to the second floor or to eat our breakfast. From a completely other angle -- it's location was good. It is in a largely residential neighborhood, but opposite a big Wal-Mart parking lot and close to fast food restaurants. Related to the latter, they also had the biggest refrigerator and microwave we'd ever seen in overnight facilities. We especially need a refrigerator for one of the types of insulin my husband uses. We keep that and bottles of water in a cooler in our car when traveling overnight in hot weather. Read more

We arrived about 6 pm and checked in. When we got to the room, there was luggage, left over food, and smoke reaked in the room. We had requested a non smoking room. When I returned to the desk, they said they would have housekeeping remove the luggage and food. (What about the guy they belonged to?) But that they had no non smoking rooms available. […] I had received not one but two confirmations that stated a non smoking room. I told them this was unacceptable and they did agree to cancel the room without charging a fee. But when asked if there was another Best Western we could stay at we were told no and no assistance in trying to find another one. I would never return to this hotel and will be very cautious in working with the chain at all anymore. Read more

Hotel was easy to find and very convenient to restaurants and shopping. I was very pleasantly surprised to find the rooms had DVD players and the hotel had a library of DVD's available for our use. Unfortunately the DVD in one of our rooms wasn't working. This was my first time using Hotels.com and I will definitely use them again.

I was visiting the Allegany State Park, but did not find accommodation within the park, or in Salamanca. Hence I booked this, about 10 miles from the entrance (Exit 21) to the park.

Best Western has rooms which indicate they are non-smoking, but turn on the air conditioning or heat and that is all you smell. I need to have lite a scented candle to make the room more pleasant smelling. Maybe they should just make all the rooms non-smoking as I would rather not die in a hotel fire started by someone who falls asleep while smoking […] or have curious kids of smokers lighting matches in the hotel. We chose to stay at the Best Western because the price was in our price range and we could not be flexible with the dates of our stay. The hotel is about 25 minutes from the Holiday Valley Inn where they sometimes hold the IBO World Tournament. There is a Walmart Supercenter directly across the street, several fast food place, pizza places, restaurants, […] etc. very close by and is located in a very nice area. We stayed in this hotel because it was close to Ellicottville where we couldn't find a room on a holiday weekend. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the room. We also liked the pool and gym. The free hot breakfast was very good. All in all, good value for money.
