We had a great time! The food was excellent and the hotel is VERY VERY clean! We had a great time on the Ricks Cafe excursion! DEFINITELY worth the money. They had an excellent mix for both breakfast and dinner between Jamaican and American foods; everyone will be happy with the food selection!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Adequate but not great"
We had an oceanfront room. The hotel stay met the basic requirements. Clean hotel room, proximity to the beach, lots of food for an all inclusive resort. However, the food was mostly poor, average at best. The al a carte restaurants require 2 day advance reservation, no less no more. In this day and age, you expect Wifi to be included, but was not. […] You have to pay for wifi in your room and then hope it works given how far away your room is from the routers. The entertainment was repetitive and dull. It did get a few guests to dance and move, but mostly quite forgettable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

This is my second time here and I love it. The hotel is located in a tanquil part of the bay. I am sure the hotel seems a little outdated to others but I had a blast and the staff was great again. Will be returning again next year!Genuine Expedia guest review
The experience was wonderful, but made especially due to the incredible staff that although the hotel had just experienced peak capacity, they were always cordial, helpful and pleasant. "Not what I expected"
The staff & entertainment - hands down was superb. I was NOT SATISFIED with the selection of food offered. Completely disgusted with the 'cafeteria food' displayed for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Thank-god the Jerk Chicken Hut was available and made fresh daily. I also had to resort in asking the hotel employees to bring back some food as well from […] the outside. I wish there was more of a selection of the Jamaican culinary since that's what i was there for to enjoy their delicious dishes. I've been spoiled by other All-Inclusive's and NEVER had experience this before. Also, the food was NEVER 24/7 like other resorts. I wish that was available as well. Will I come back to this establishment again? Absolutely NOT. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Fun in the sun"
Enjoyed the beach, the pool, the bars, the food and the entertainment . Had a great time.Genuine Expedia guest review
This is a very nice hotel. The grounds are well maintained and the staff is very friendly. The food wasn't the best, but still not bad; For drinkers, the mini bar in the room and access to food all day will make up for the lack in the food department. The beach in Negril wasn't as nice as I had expected. Seemed like the sand was compacted; maybe from […] the surf or heavy rain. It did rain each day that I was there. Just as a comparison, I stayed at the RIU in Ocho Rios a few days after staying at the RIU in Negril, and the food and beach were much better, in my opinion. If you plan to make use of WIFI, plan to either pay for the service or plan your usage accordingly. They provide you with 90 minutes of "consecutive" use in the lobby area per day; so once you connect, you have 90 minutes for that day. If you connect and stay on for 5 minutes, 85 minutes later, your free access is expired. I would suggest using Boingo b/c the location is one of their service locations. 24hrs of their access is much cheaper than what the hotel offers. Also, if you don't bring a computer and need to access something other than internet, you will have to buddy up with another guest who does have a laptop. They have an "internet" room, but the computers are so locked down, you cannot access anything other than a web browser. They do not have any computers around the hotel that they will allow you to use. I wanted to pull some video off my camcorder. Couldn't do it at the hotel Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice resort for what it offers"
The resort though not the cleanest or newest was very nice for what you pay for it. Mind you, this is not a five star resort. The staff especially the entertainment crew were awesome. "Good value needed more entertainment"
The hotel was comfortable and the staff very accommodating. The food was good, but not great. We were always able to find something we liked. The maid was great and made sure we had clean towels every day. The singer Shandyman was fantastic. Unfortunately, for us, he only sang a few songs and then was replaced by a lesser singer. The Michael Jackson […] show was also fantastic. It was off season at this resort and it seemed the entertainment was cut back. This left us bored on a few nights. We paid so we should have gotten the regular entertainment schedule. That is why I am giving this resort an overall 3 rating and not a 4. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not a wise choice"
The first room we were assigned had a smokey smell and the a/c didn't work well. Went to the front desk to request another room. They said nothing was available - only an ocean front room which was an additional fee per night. After a little negotialtion, I was able to get the room without any additional charge. I was excited - until I got to the room. […] The a/c wasn't working and the ceiling fan was too far away from the bed. The fridge also wasn't working well - but that was something I could live with. Having no a/c is another issue - the first night was torture. The food was good - however in the dining area they refused to put on the a/c. Not good when its 90 degrees outside. The night club smelled like puke. The all inclusive drinks was made out of cheap alcohol. Front desk staff was unattentive. It was a very unpleasant experience. I don't know why this hotel is 3.9....it should be -3.9. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The Club Riu in Jamaica is very disappointing. The food was horrible. Our mini bar never got restocked. The locals on are constantly bugging you on the beach, mostly selling drugs. I will not recommend this resort to anyone.Genuine Expedia guest review

"The Hotel smelled like sewer"
I've been to Jamaica many times and this was the worse hotel i have ever been to. The first night we got there we notice that the tub was backed up we called the front desk for assistance but when they can it left a sewer smell in the room, we went to complain about the smell and the front desk personnel told us "to go back to the room and stay in in […] the smell until in the morning when they can change the room"; he literally said that to me, i was like are you serious you want me to go stay in room that smells like sewer with my two young kids? he responded he has no other rooms to put us in which was a lie because after we kept complaining he decided to switch our room. He gave us a choice of two room to choose from but yet before he said he had no rooms available. My next ordeal was with the tour guide they have at the hotel that works for JTL Tours LTD her name was Santnaya she was the rudest customer service representative I have ever encountered. When you pay for hotel transport to and from airport you are suppose to register with the JTL Tours representative but when i went to register she was completely rude and didn't even acknowledge me, and when you did she seems like i was bothering her. "Not coming back"
Nice staff, clean rooms, nice common areas. However, I have absolutely NO confidence in the safety of the facility. The fire alarms kept going off for no reason. One night the alarms went off in our rooms from 1 am untill 2:30. there were about a hundred people standing outside the building and NOBODY from the staff came out to tell us what was going […] on. I went to the desk and she said, "It's a false alarm" but I never saw anyone from the staff checking, or giving us information. The alarms went off in the lobby (SHRIEKING, PIERCING, LOUD) and we were told they were "checking the system" The alarms even went off in the "fancy" restaurant (loud, painful.) The food? Lots and lots of choices of mediocre to lousy food. Greasy, overcooked meats, good salad bar, good fruit- the reservation only restaurants were no better, but at least it wasn't a buffet. The best food was the jerk chicken from the beach grill, other than that it was quite disappointing. The entertainment was mostly immature bozos jumping around and embarrassing the guests. At one point, a volunteer had to put a flaming stick into the dancers pants (she was extremely uncomfortable, and tried to decline.) Beer chugging races at the bar in the afternoon (leave it for silly college kids on Spring break). The only good part of the entertainment was the house band- "Tropical Energy" and only when the bozos didn't try to be the show. Overall the entertainment was embarrassing to anyone with any class. We found the hotel to be very comfortable. The staff went out of their way to welcome the guests. The only problem was the bathroom, the tiles in the bathtub had a little mold on them, and i would preffer a glass door as opposed to shower curtains. This was not enough to stop me from returning.Genuine Expedia guest review
Overall the resort is good. The room is a little dated with a small tv but its ok. My main concern is that the towels smell even the new ones. They should use a new detergent. The kids pool was dirty and the kids club was usually closed. The staff were very friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Loved Club Riu!"
My boyfriend and I had a great time at Club Riu! The staff was very friendly, food excellent, and drinks strong! There was plenty of sun and shade on the beach. The pool was very nice with lots of lounge chairs. I recommend eating at the Gourmet restaurant - reservation only. The entertainment was good and they had a show everynight. There was no need […] to leave the resort at night to find something fun. The jerk chicken on the beach was the best I ever had. They had this everyday from 11:30 - 3:30pm. Our room was the furthest from the main lobby and was a bit of a walk but we did not mind. It was quiet and the room was nice. "Great hotel for couples!"
The grounds were beautiful, and the entertainment during the day and night were amazing! My only complaint was that the specialty restaurants were lacking in options. We only went one, because the other two restaurants were also the locations of the buffet. We choose the other restaurant to get a change of scenery, but it wasnt very good. "The Wedding Crashers' Review"
We are not fans of 'all inclusive' type resorts, However ClubHotel Rui -Negril is an exception. Our first stay a Rui and it was well worth it. The food and drink was very good, you even have bottles in your room to pour your own drinks. The people are outstanding, complex is well run and well maintained. Contrary to many reviews, fine dining is readily […] available, you book 2 days ahead, just make sure you get up in the AM to make your reservations. We went to all 3 restaurants, however the food in the general buffet was just as good with much more variety. Many people there said they have been ther multiple times in prior years, some as many as 15 years in a row! This says something about the resort. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Mostly good, but some bad."
First off, BOOK THE TRANSPORTATION THRU THE RESORT/EXPEDIA FROM AND TO THE AIRPORT, otherwise you will pay $100 each way. The location is amazing! YES, there are vendors on the beach, all you have to do, is smile and kindly say "no thank you, I'm ok" and they will leave you alone. We, the tourists are their main source of income, so as we are in their […] territory, we have to understand.Food was alright, 6 out of 10. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and who cares about the outdated TV?? Is that why you went to Jamaica? To watch TV?!? Now, the only bad thing about the experience is that, since you are pretty much isolated, if you need anything, like a tylenol,BE PREPARED TO TIP YOUR MONEY AWAY. Basically, if you sneeze, and anyone in the resort says "Bless You", they expect a tip.The entertainment at night is as cheesy as it gets, and the band that plays in between is ok to say the most. But again, when you are drunk on all inclusive alcohol, you won't care for most things. Bottom shelf booze, but it will do the trick. Red Stripe in Jamaica seems to be stronger, so if the Rum Punch isn't doing it for you, drink that. For the "reservation based" restaurants, you need to reserve 48 hours before...but we didn't care about that either. Big shout out to Kevin our BellMan, and of course Wayne, our cabdriver! Those two get a 11 out of 10! Other than that, the staff was helpful (with or without a tip) and courteous. If you thought they were rude in anyway, maybe you were the problem. "Entertainment staff make this a fun place to stay"
Three star hotel with great staff. The hotel is fine (as advertised) - pleasant & comfortable, but the staff really make it enjoyable, especially the poolside & evening entertainment staff. One complaint - although they advertise three specialty restaurants, they were very difficult to get into. You had to make reservations 2 days in advance (which […] means you can't get into any of them until your third evening because they are booked up by 8am). In addition one of the three restaurants was closed nearly every night for a wedding. I don't want to make this review sound too negative, I would recommend the hotel, but just want to set your expectations properly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Some of the staff were rude and seemed genuinely disinterested in helping us with simple things we requested. There were drug dealers and beach vendors combing the beach daily harassing guests. There was one day that the police were on site and that was the only day the vendors/drug dealers weren't peddling their wares. "You won't get borded here!"
The hotel is long with dining at one end and the rooms at the other. We had two people who have knee problems and would have had a hard time walking from the rooms at the far end several times a day. They were able to get a set of rooms in the first building and it worked out great. The pool bar pools water was cloudy the whole time we were there. Then […] again...if you watched the drinking crowd they didn't get out of the water hardly all day. Could that be why?? We spent most of our time in the family pool which had clearer water in it. The beach is great but get off of it around 4 in the afternoon. The sand fleas come out and they bit! I have been to many all inclusive's and this on by far had the best food. They also have a bartender in the lobby bar that sings as he servers drinks in the evening and was a blast to watch and listen to. Over all was a wonderful place to stay and we had a great time! "Perfect for a family vacation"
This was our first experience at an all inclusive resort and turned out to be an excellent experience. The hotel staff were friendly, housekeeping did a great job, the grounds and common areas were always being hand swept and mopped, pools maintained throughout the day, etc. Overall, very nice staff and everything was well kept. Minor "complaints" would […] be the waiting in line before 8AM to try and get a reservation at one of the "nice" restaurants for 2 days later. Only reservations are at 7 or 9 PM, and the 7 PM go first so if you want a 7PM reservation two days later, you need to get in line around 7:30AM. There are lots of little crabs running around, but they are more cute than anything else. Overall it was an excellent experience, pools were great, drinks were included (but served watered down) and the food overall was decent. Nothing beats all of the wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables locally grown, and the jerk shack for lunch was delicious! Picture is view from balcony of our ocean view room. "Jamaica No Problem"
We would go back. Nice location to Negril. Hotel and rooms clean. Liquor in rooms nice touch! Bartenders (Kelly, tall Robert and Fabian) and Event staff (Kenniel) great! Loved the trip to YS falls and Black River. Also Ricks is a must (JUMP!!!). Remember to bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray (gnats and mosquitos a problem) . Gift shop prices are […] outrageous and don't expect the Dr on the resort to help you. And book your dinners at the sit downs right away. They fill up fast. The only Neg besides the bugs which they cant control was the rude staff at the dive shop. My husband and another couple tried all week to pay for even, lessons to sail. He would show up and they would keep pushing the available time back and back. Don't shop downtown before you walk the beach. They have the same stuff but you won't pay so much (we learned the hard way). Right next to the dive shop is a place you can eat lobster too! (beware though as you might accidentally inhale the "illegal" gange on this strip). People debate the tipping as they do "ask for it". And it be annoying but what we learned is the average worker makes $50 a week (no matter the amount of hours) so, you decide. And really all in all...Erytings gonna be arite! You're in Jamaica! My 12 year old grandson and I stayed at this resort over Spring Break. I knew it would be great but it was better than I could have imagined. The staff was very sweet and friendly. Many sang as they worked, so I knew they were happy. The entertainment staff was AWESOME! I have never seen such fantastic bodies in my life! They kept everyone entertained, […] including the kids, and they worked so hard ALL DAY LONG. The food was out of this world, every kind of fruit and vegetable you can think of and more. And they served fish for every meal, along with other favorites including American, Mexican, and Italian cuisine. We had a WONDERFUL time. The only thing I can think of was that the bed was not as comfortable as the one I have at home, but that was nothing to complain about. Great people, great food, GREAT PLACE! My experience was fantastic. The resort is top notch in my opinion. The staff are super friendly and attentive. This is truly all inclusive booze, food, etc. Our rooms were always clean and neat. The roll away bed is a little uncomfortable, sometimes at night the air conditioning would turn off or lower itself. There was one instance of no hot water […] and a few power outages. The food in the buffet was OK, its what you would expect. The nicer dining rooms (by reservation only - 2days in advance) were pretty good. "Gourmet" restaurant was my favorite. "Ok hotel, horrible partnering agencies"
The hotel itself was fine, however, the agencies that they partner with to try and get you to go on excursions were incredibly rude, misleading and dishonest. As a result it impacted the stay, which is a reflection of the hotel. If you stay here be careful of Jamaica Tours Group, they will try to take advantage of you, and will try to take money from […] you and not give you what you've paid for and try to not give a receipt (so you have no prooof of your purchase). I had to chase them down for three days because they demanded cash for my shuttle but then they didn't want to give me a voucher. "Good for short getaway, but probably won't go back"
I would rate this vacation as average. I've definitely been to nicer Riu resorts. I'm listing a few things I wish someone would have told me before we made travel arrangements. Rooms: 1. We were given the second to last room on the top floor of building 4. About a quarter mile walk each way to the lobby, meals, pool, and everything. And there are no […] elevators. So when we forgot something in the room we just did without it because the walk was too far. 2. Bed linens were not changed during our entire 4 day stay. I know because I saw the same spot on the sheets every day. Meals:1. Forget about getting a reservation in one of the restaurants before 9 pm if you are there for a 3 - 4 day visit. 2. The food on the buffet was basically the same everyday, although it was OK. On the positive side, I didn't gain my usual 3 lbs of vacation weight. 3. Drinks are watered down. Location: 1. Nothing is close by. Any sights, besides walking down the beach was a dangerous taxi ride away. Warning, if walking down the beach, cover your eyes about halfway to the end to avoid a glimpse of the nude sunbathers ...yuck! 2.You MUST venture to Rick's Cafe. It was our most fun time during the trip. Entertainment: Absolutely the best thing about the resort. The shows were great and the entertainment staff was very friendly and engaging. Much more than I can say for the front desk staff that took 20 mins to give change for a $5 bill. Which was needed because tips are expected by resort staff. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
