When we arrived the reception desk informed us that they had upgraded our room from ocean front to ocean front suite. Fabulous room. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff at the hotel were all very helpful and friendly. We one night had our shower handle break and maintenance was in the room within an hour to replace the shower head. The front desk was always very accommodating when asked anything. The beach was great. The water pretty shallow even at the buoys. Snorkeling was decent around the grassy areas and rock. Puffer fish and sting rays were frequently seen. The specialty restaurant were very good. The bars were very efficient and the drinks were not watered down like most all inclusive. The area that really needs improved at this resort is the dinner buffet. Staffing levels were not adequate to maintain clean tables. The staff that were there were literally running from table to table to keep up. The other problem is that the food selection at the buffets was of poor quality. Over cooked and dried out. My other personal problem was that the ammentites in the bathroom. The shower gel / shampoo combo left my hair feeling like straw. So take your own shampoo, cream rinse, shower soap and lotion.

Overall, disappointing. The resort itself was probably very nice when it was new, but has not been well maintained or updated. Pools were okay, nothing special. Resort property is large and there is a lot of beach front. However, locals walked up and down the beach ALL day long trying to sell you things, including drugs. Security very loose. Food options VERY limited and after a week of staying we were sick of it. There are three restaurants you can eat at in addition to the large buffet dining hall (cafeteria), but they require reservations and space is EXTREMELY limited and hard to get a reservation. The online description makes it sound like there is a larger selection of restaurants to eat at, but other than the three reservation-only restaurants (dinner only) there was one place to eat breakfast and one place to eat lunch and food was far from impressive if you are used to healthy home cooking. They offer watersports at a cost and be careful of the locals that walk the beach and ask you if you are interested in glass water boating, etc. They are NOT part of the resort and the resort does not warn you. Our room's airconditioning was leaking and we had to put towels down to absorb the water and avoid slipping. Also had to kill a cockroach in our room. I have never stayed at a RIU before, but after this stay I would not return to Jamaica or a RIU.

made the best of our vacation. most employees are very friendly and accommodating while some are not. enjoyed the pool and beach. didn't care for the locals walking the beach trying to sell you marijuana and other things. the food situation was the worst. you can only eat at one place. reservations at some restaurants fill up too fast and it takes days in advanced to get them. you have to be standing in line by 8am to hope to get a reservation.where you eat its buffet style food so it nice to have a variety but my family was not fond of the food. especially eating the same thing for the whole week. I thought there might have been more snacks throughout the day but there wasn't anything. we had young kids on vacation with us and there wasn't much to do besides hang on the beach or the pool. unless you want to travel outside the resort.

Pros: The buffet was every large and had a wide variety of food. The hotel was fully booked, but it never felt crowded. The rooms were outdated but clean and well air conditioned. The liquor is not as watered down as I expected. The room had a full bar and there are several bars located on the resort. We heavily tipped the beach bar manager, Cleon, and received excellent service our whole trip. The beach is very long, so matter what building your are in, the beach is a few feet away. The beach was clean. The hotel is in a bay, so there are no waves and the water is calm. Cons: the hotel requires a two day advance reservation for the restaurants and they won't allowed you to reserve until you are present. We arrived too late the first day to reserve a table, and we lucky to get two nights at the restaurants. The bathrooms are sparse in amenities. They have a shower cap and a liquid soap/shampoo combo in the shower.

When we arrived at the resort we were told "you've been upgraded to Tropical down the beach." When we asked if our whole group would be going they said yes. But within a couple minutes, we were told that was a mistake and we would be "put up" at the Tropical in Montego Bay rather than Negril which we had chosen. We of course became upset and refused the "compensation" and a sales rep came to tell us we had no choice, they had no rooms. We were offered 3 free nights vouchers to be used at another stay, no part of this trip could be refunded. We sat for 2 hours trying for a more agreeable compensation and also for the rest of our group to join us. In the end, we were NOT upgraded in anyway but put back in a taxi for a return trip of 1.5hr to Montego Bay for 2 nights followed by ANOTHER 1.5hr in a taxi to complete our trip at our chosen resort in Negril. So far we have not seen the 3 nights free voucher we were offered. Management took our email address to send them to us. Extremely disappointed in management! We were told this was a management mistake/decision and had nothing to do with Expedia.

The resort was great. Excellent buffet with tonnes of variety. Beautiful pathways with perfect lighting for an evening walk. The beach was amazing - we rarely left. Lots of trees to steal away from the sun, much better then a beach lined with umbrellas. There was a Beach bar with awesome blender drinks, anything you want. Bring an insulated drink mug and lots of $1 to tip your bartender, they are great and could use a few more trees around them. They also had a chicken jerk shack for lunch on the beach... literally thought of everything. Bring a water floaty and snorkel because the fish and reefs in the bay are a must. The best part was the amazing people - staff. Such friendly people always smiling... I would come back for the people. We almost missed seeing Paul the signing bartender at the lobby lounge - he was so good. Stop by after dinner to start your romantic evening. The rooms were very nice but ours was a bit musty and I had heard they were due for a renovation.

I stayed at the riu in Dec of 14. The all inclusive was nice but lacking a full bar. The buffet food was good but I would recommend making reservations for the a tall restraunts. Location is the eastern most resort there. Only negative on the resort was all the bees flying around the bars

Lots of drinks, great food, and happy atmosphere. The employees are very friendly! The only two negative comments I have are the night life entertainment could use a bit of work, and the vendors walking around the beach get very annoying very quick trying to constantly sell you things. Resorts should keep such people out. Otherwise the resort is great and in a great location. Very beautiful!

Absolutely wonderful! The staff made things so much fun with great nightly shows and things for the kids to do. The spa was wonderful. Make sure you book the 5 hr cruise to Rick's Café. Amazing!

The resort is nice and people are nice and friendly! the water in front of the resort was the greatest (lots of algae) but within 5 min walk you can get crystalline clear water. Food Was good but we could not get to eat in any ofg the restaurants a la carte because they were all booked at any time every day. Overall was a place I would recommend.

The hotel is in good shape, cleanliness, and location. The staff is very friendly and amicable. The room is very clean, except for the Air Conditioning was not working well. We asked the reception to fix it couple times and no success. Room switch was not suggested. There is need for more offerings and variety of local food. We always seek to enjoy and learn the local food.

Overall not a bad experience, but over priced for the quality. Definitely not above a 3 star. Upon check in, with a party of 6 families, having booked an ocean front room - two of us had booked from expedia, others from other websites. Only the two of us were denied our rooms - the check in lady Natassa, even claimed go ask expedia for a refund, they dont pay us anyways for 60 days. Once we met the supervisor Maya the next day, the problem was sorted. The grounds are clean and neat. The bars are all surrounded by actual bees hovering around the smoothie mixers - its a miracle no one gets stung. The lackadasical attitude of the service folks was just short of appalling - but maybe here in the US we are used to something else. Try to get rooms in building 1 - everything else is a walk .... back at night to the shows or the pool. The restaurants require lining up at 8 am to make reservations 2 days in advance, which means the first 2 days of your stay are essentially buffet meals - Breakfast lunch and dinner. The buffet itself is a feast - mangoes that are heavenly - but gets boring after a couple meals. Getting service for an alcoholic beverage takes for ever in the buffer place. Tried sit down at Luigis and Sir Andrews - both from fixed meals. Chef had a hard time understanding vegetarian requests for a few in the group, but did deliver at the end of the day. The christmas day show was fantastic, as were the other days - shows are at 930 pm prompt. Poor inclusive wine or liqor

Horrible place, would never go there again. No room service, no elevators, staff rude, children in diapers at the pool bar, pool dirty, food not great, beach area was full of chairs but there were so many weeds in the water you didn't want to swim. strangers on the beach selling illegal things. This resort was awesome! They have everything you need to enjoy your trip without even leaving the resort! We rented a car but barely used it because the resort had so much for us to do! Staff was friendly, rooms stayed clean and the view was beautiful! Give the entertainment 6 stars! This was my birthday trip and they sang for me and bought me a cake! Only cons: bed wasn't as comfy as I would have like and food was ok, some meals better than others, some worst. All in all would definitely return!

This was a nice hotel with good food choices, friendly staff but not toddler friendly. The room had furniture that my toddler could bump.his head and.hurt himself. Glass countertops with sharp edges over their wood furniture. The light switch in our room was weird and would shut off all the power in the Room. We had a stroller and our room.was on the second floor...with no elevators. Not convenient at all. The bar was too n far from the beach. The beach towel section was too far as well. There should be more than one of those stands for such a spacious beach. Wished staff wood come around and take drink orders when you are on the beach. Still enjoyable but too pricey ... I've paid the same per night at other facilities that would give a bit more.

The bartender Garth was amazing and was a large part in making our trip so good. I would highly recommend staying at this property if you are planning on going to negril. If you stay on the 7 mile beach you will get harassed non stop by locals selling things.

this hotel is very easy to find in Negril Jamaica, it's very big colorful spacious and a lot of stuff, but the staff never seems to be in your way, they let you be free but at a moment's notice there will come and help you.., the food was excellent a variety of different dishes for breakfast lunch and dinner, the bar was always open liquor was always flowing loved it...BUT the one thing I did not like was to beach, actually in the water there was a lot of seaweed on the bottom.hotels staff and food excellent beach not so much.

Physically this is a gorgeous hotel property with great rooms, but the food quality is abysmal, and it was obvious they work hard to nickel-and-dime you so you don't use too much food and drink. Example: The main dining option is a huge buffet-style restaurant where the food is mediocre, but there are three other restaurants on property that promise a higher level of cuisine and service. Only trouble is, you have to make a reservation two days in advance for any of them, and you can only do it in person by lining up at tiny desk in the lobby between 8 and 4 each day. This means that is if you arrive after 4 as we did, and stay for 5 days/4 nights as we did, you will essentially get to experience only one. Other than that, it will be the buffet only for you, which offers an abundance of food, but which is mostly tasteless, and aside from that, like many of the food and beverage areas of the hotel, there is an unpleasant, sewage-like smell evident near many of the steam tables and service areas. Also, your room has a minibar you can use at will, but they only stock it every two days, and when we arrived, ours was nearly empty, and it took three complaints to finally get them to fill it. As for the beach, it looks gorgeous, but once you wade in, you realize this cove is full of mushy, spinach-like seaweed that floats a few inches below the surface. There is a long natural beach next to the property that has been overrun by illegal vendors.

The resort is nice. I do wigs the pool stayed open later it is a resort and people will want to have late night swims. Also the restaurants reservations could be done a little more fairly. We never got towel animals in our room but our friends did so consistency was a little bit of an issue. Overall it wasn't bad and the food was okay.

Been to three other Riu in Jamaica and this is possibly the worst. Staff here is more miss than hit and hotel is in need of major renovation. Food also was more miss than hit. Beach is not very good, long bay is superior. Unfortunately I would not return here or suggest this resort. Many other amazing places in Jamaica.

Check in was 45 minutes we were the only 4 people in line. Staff not friendly and could not manage their interruptions from other guests and co workers. A/C not working well in rooms, remote control did not work with TV. I have stayed in other Riu's this one is nots so good.

The room was a little dated, it was also very close to the highway, so we heard a lot of road noise during the night. There were no elevators which would be hard for customers with any type of physical disability. We had to make a reservation on Saturday for Tuesday night in order to eat at the one restaurant that was open; all other meals were the buffet.

After being in others Riu properties I have to say the Riu Negril is extremely disappointing. The overall facilities are dated and scream a much well needed renovation and make over. We have to say though the staff and entertaining team in general were AMAZING. They will definitely bring up light to the hotel. Drinks are OK but food is way below average. When you go on All Inclusive deal you expect to eat at least regular standard meals but Riu Negril is certainly LOW budget quality food. The beach is OK but not as they showed in their pics. Beach is actually a Bay (kind of similar at a beach around a Pier or Marina Bay) no waves which means can be very muggy with actually Jelly Fish around it (Definitely not my kind of beach for sure!). Something else that really concerned me was that we saw like 5 cats running around the property all day long (nothing against kitties) but that's very creepy and discusting to say the least also DO not stay in other building BUT number 1 at least you are OK with long walking back and forth...

The food isn't that great!Ate lunch 1st day we arrived and bees were flying all around soda dispenser and a bee fell into my husband's glass because one flew up the spout...yuck!!!! Thats the last time i ate lunch there. Ate dinner there 1 time,wasnt that great.The bathroom light fixtures are dated and hanging. No conditioner, toothpaste, or "real" shampoo (its a 2 in 1 type deal...soap and shampoo). Switched over to sister property (Palace) and food was WONDERFUL there. Stay at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay rooms are bigger, variety of food every night and its 10xs better. Had all toiletries, but u still need 2 bring or buy your own toothpaste. Worth the money to spend at Palace!!!!

Our room was very clean and the nicest of any of the rooms of the resorts we've stayed at in the Caribean. I don't usually like buffet but the buffet at Riu was excellent. Great choices and very tasty. I had a steak at The Gourmet restaurant and it was the best I've had in a long time. The staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating. We will be booking at a Riu on our next vacation. Thanks David & Karen

Nice hotel close to the beach, rooms need a little updating, could smell dampness in rooms, but it was clean. Hotel facilities were acceptable, overall experience was Good.

This hotel is in need of a total revamp! From the hard beds to the cheesy entertainment! We came, we saw, we would skip it next time. Food was good, beach was good, pool closes at 6pm everyday, which my kids weren't to happy with. Be wary of the entertainment people...they like to pump and grind it, in front of kids, and love to embarrass you on stage, they called my husband up on stage while my daughter was there, made him do push ups along with 5 other Dads?? And they don't let you leave until they are done with you....sit in the back of the stage area! We stayed in the 3000 hotel block, it's a walk, but not really far like other people complained about. Jamaica is a very poor Island, but the people have so much pride there, open up and talk to them, they are wonderful people! It would be nice if the government there would take care of them, it would probably help on my decision to visit there again.

Everything was great about our stay especially the entertainment crew. They were always there to make sure we had a good time and the shows were really great that they preformed. Everyone was so nice and helpful.

The beach is inviting. (crystal clear beautiful blue water) The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious. We had a great time.

Booking for meals other than at buffet needs to be done more fairly to all. Food is however excellent everywhere. Staff are amazing. Painting accomodation was a smelly pain and lack of coffee mc in room a drag and room always seemed to be clean but smelled musty. Location is too far for walking to local attractions and taxi is expensive. Hotel shuttle would be a good idia. Self drive is not for gentle spuls- roads are bad and drivers seem to jave a death wish. I would go again- had a great time.

Loved the staff. Entertainment was great. Breakfast buffet was great. Lunch and dinner buffet was okay. Food was good at the Italian restaurant. Tempurture in room wasn't very cool but I'm sure it's because it's very humid there. Loved Negril and will be back!

The resort is nice and clean, however the food is always the same no variation. U get bored. Very hard to get a la carte reservations and only 3 restaurants on the premises. The disco always empty. Too long of a break between the end of the show and the start of the club. Otherwise kk
