Hotel was in a great location for us. I travelled with my husband for a long weekend with plans to visit Newark and New York City. The walk from the Path Station to the Hotel was a bit long when pulling luggage, but we did not mind cosidering the low cost of the hotel. We also felt safe walking from the PATH station to the Hotel. There was a residential area nearby with restaurants, Target, and a pharmacy. The river walk in Newport (Jersey City) had a beautiful view of Manhattan. The room had it's own bathroom, with bathtub and shower, mini-fridge, internet access, tv with many cable channels and a microwave. If you are looking for a cheaper, clean place to stay when travelling to NYC and don't mind a short walk from the PATH station, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Pretty easy to get to Manhattan from here. Especially if you are doing anything in the Financial district. Had a microwave and fridge in the room. There is a Target nearby with a full grocery store. This makes it perfect for extended stays. Would be nice if they had travel directions for taking the rail system over there. I had a hard time trying to travel to the hotel. Pretty cool neighborhood to the west of there. Short walk to some decent neighorhood restaurants.

The hotel is very old. But everything is just like what you see on the pic on their website. The room is OK, and the towels are old and tough. But wait until next morning, they have the best breakfast bar. It's small but they got a lot of selections, especially their donuts. You can't walk out without trying their donuts at least once. Good place to stay for the price!!!

This place was conveniently located to the mall, path, and lightrail. Coffee and donuts every morning was terrific. The only downside was traffic outside our window beeping all hours of the day and night, front desk attendants were yelling at each other (I honestly thought they were going to physically fight) and they forgot to clean our room so we had to call and remind them. If you're looking for a cheap hotel just to sleep this is the place. If you're looking for something nice then pay the $30-40 more because there are very nice hotels in this area.

However, when we proceeded to NY via the tunnel, the traffic was absolutely horrible, we got thru,(took approx 30 nins!) then it was closed and we had to seek the Lincoln tunnel and find our way back to the lodge:) the people at the lodge are very friendly and I would stay again even with the traffic:)

The location and the free parking are a neccessity in NY,NY and this Hotel had both. It's only about 4 blocks or less from the PATH train(Jersey subway) and the Lightrail(above ground train). On the way to the subway you pass the Newport mall, an excellent place for lunch or snack on the way back to the hotel. The walk to the train is lit and in a safe area. The PATH trains lead to lower and mid Manhatten and from there you can catch any of the NY subways to go anywhere. We never had to use a cab or bus. The Hotel staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the free breakfast was great! There was usually some left over rolls or doughnuts even when we'd get back just before night fall. No elevators but the stairs were short. A note to others: The D train goes to Coney Island and Central park but becomes an express later in the day so use the B train to come back to 34th street where you cathc the PATH back to the hotel.

Great place to stay if you are visiting New York. Great location outside of the main city but only 20 mins away by using the PATH train which takes you to the centre of Manhatten. Train runs 24 hours. Staff very friendly and helpful. I cannot find anything negative to say. If you are using a car there is parking at the hotel. Very handy for Newark airport only 20 mins in a taxi. Would definately stay there again.

Considering the location (right outside the Holland Tunnel entrance) we were a little worried about traffic noise and the neighborhood. I don't know how thick those walls are but you really couldn't hear the traffic at all. Beds were comfortable and they had donuts available all day. Breakfast was cereals, juice and pastries, which was more than I expected. The walk to the subway was not difficult and we felt safe. The subway entrance itself is in a very nice area and took us right where we wanted to go. Aside from the room being small and dated, it fit our needs just fine. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Reviewed by CJ L of Cincinnati on Jun 24, 2009
I didn't think anyone at the front desk (which is a little scary because it's behind bullet-proof glass) was particularly friendly but that is my only complaint. The room was average, not too small and very clean. It's right in front of the Holland tunnel so it is NOISY (honking horns all night - bring ear plugs). It's a SAFE neighborhood. There are cops all around the tunnel. Our rental car was not bothered. The PATH station is about a 10 minute walk. You cross the street from the back parking lot, find and follow the black iron fence and take a right on Washington. You'll see PATH right next to the Marriot on the left. On weekends the PATH goes through Hoboken first, so it takes a little longer to get into the city on weekends. But this train is VERY convenient, so for the money you save at this hotel, it's worth it but only if you're on a budget. If not, then stay in Manhattan near Times Square. It's worth it not to have the hassle. TS is the center of the city. The walk to PATH was very well lit and safe at night too. Nice area if noisy (like all of NYC).
