La Pensione Inn B&B

just getting back from Key West, we stayed at La Pensione. Although the Inn was quaint, we felt it didn't have the same charm as other B&B's we have stayed in. There is no personal decor or knick knacks, nor "homey" feeling. As opposed to waking up to the smell of eggs cooking downstairs, we walked down to a very small tray of fruit and 4 hard boiled […] eggs and bagels to self serve. To accomodate the 9 room Inn, we felt there should actually be 9 packing spaces, not 7. Parking was difficult with the risk of being towed. The pictures on the internet were a bit deceiving as to how the room appeared in person. One bonus was thee was internet access in the room as we brought our lap top. No problems with noise for us, I think our main contention overall was what actually was offered and the room itself. If the room was decorated and more personal and made you feel more at home, we may entertain the thought of coming back, but, we have stayed at other B&B's and this was just not for us. Priced right per night, but you get what you pay for. If you're looking for somewhere to sleep only, then this may be right for you. If you are looking to be catered to and want to feel at home, you may want to keep looking. Read more

Let me start that this hotel is only a short 2 block walk to Duval Street; however, about 9 blocks from the cruise terminal. We liked it because it was far enough to be quiet yet close enough that we did not need to drive. Very close to the Hemmingway House but a nice walking distance to the Truman White House. We flew into Fort Lauderdale (FLL), because […] we have had a bad experience at MIA in the past. We then drove down the chain of Keys and the famous 40 or so bridges that take you to Key West. La Pensione was easy to find and had a parking spot that was easy to access. We stayed in the room at the top of the stairways (room 5 I believe). There was not a balcony but it was very large - plenty of room. The air conditioner was a little loud and the stairs were a pain since my gf likes to pack a lot for a trip - I don't know why she insists on bringing hair dryers and curling irons and then she never even uses them - anyway. If you are healthy and don't have a lot of luggage the stairs are really not a problem, but if you need to have a ground floor room I noticed that there seemed to be a few on the first floor - so ask the manager to assign you to one that best fits your needs. There is not a refrigerator in the room, but we made do with the portable ice chests and ice that they provide. The portablility is nice if you want to take it to the beach. So maybe in a way it is better that a refrigerator. The rooms are old fashioned, but that is what I wanted to experience in Key West. You are surronded by so many beautiful historical places it makes you feel as though you have traveled not only to a different place but also back in time. The pool looked a little bit lonely so we didn't do much there, but the hotel manager suggested that we try a sail boat cruise in the afternoon as opposed to the "sunset booze cruise". Our room was lovely however we checked out after one night even though we had paid for two as it was so noisy from 1) the all night street traffic, 2) the all night music and 3) the all night rooster crowing that we got no sleep. We had room 9 which is right over the street. If you aren't bothered by noise this is a fun and lovely place to stay.

This was my first experience with a B&B, and I found it to be enjoyable. The staff was extremely friendly. Our room (#2) had a separate outside entrance, which was nice. The inn had parking available (almost unheard of in KW). Our room was comfortable - there is no TV, Coffee maker or iron (although an iron is available upon request), which was fine […] by us. There is no closet, but there is a small rack with plenty of hangers. The bathroom was ok (the house is over 100 yrs old) but the sink and shower provided nowhere to put your toiletries. I would suggest buying a cheap over the showerhead rack or a suction cup holder for shampoo, soap, etc. Breakfast is provided daily from 8-10 am in the main dining room. There is fruit, bagels, toast, cereals, coffee and delicious hot home-made waffles. Bikes are available for rent, which is good because the inn is about 4-5 blocks from Duval Street (the main drag in KW). I would highly recommend this inn. Read more

Key West is delightful, but a tad warm (85 average) in mid-May. But it was easy to get around, relatively inexpensive, and thorougly enjoyable. Just make sure you fly home on the same airline your reservations are for -- our tickets were sold to another airline and we ended up having to tote our bags a couple extra blocks in Miami and Philly.

Rent og fint rom på koselig B&B. Superhyggelig betjening. Ligger sentralt like ved duval street, men likevel rolig. Koselig bassengområde i bakhagen og gratis parkering. Noen venner av oss bodde på et annet B&B med tilsvarende standard og betalte nesten halve prisen, så finnes nok rimeligere alternativ. Vi var godt fornøyd:)
