Extremely dissatisfied. Bedding was not clean and blanket had holes in it. I had to go out and purchase my own sheet and blanket to sleep on. The room had two useless tables that leaned and wobbled so terribly, I couldn't sit a cup, book, or anything on it. The Breakfast was frightening as was the room it was served in, very unclean and not very sanitary, […] I choose to eat out instead. My room window viewed the backyard which was very untidy with spilled garbage on the ground. Someone left two empty beer cans on the outside of the window and it remained there for the duration of my stay. There were no towels in the room, nor soap, and no one came to clean the room. The room was nothing like what was advertised online. I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend anyone PAY MONEY to stay there. I should be refunded my money or reimbursed for having to go out and buy clean bedding. Shameful. Read more

I wasn't sure what to expect so I had a slew of bedding and toiletries and cleaning products in my car, just in case. I was staying in the individual room and it had full bedding, multiple towels and was perfectly clean. It was a little worn in a comfortable sort of way, similar to some B&Bs. One towel had a big hole, I used it for muddy shoes instead. […] There was no window screen, but in September in the city there were no mosquitos and the room was in front so no trash, no flies. A garage under the Grande Bibliothèque has city-affordable rates for 24-hr parking just a block up the road. The location cannot be beat. Several streets full of restaurants and clubs and shops are all around; just a mile or so away (in different directions) are the Old Port, McGill University and downtown. You can get fast food or a bakery snack all the time, affordable sit-down meals or fine dining as well. I loved the food options (and the food, everywhere I went it was well presented and prepared.) The residents are hit or miss. It's kind of like camping, with the thin walls you know what your neighbors are up to. For me the kitchen was totally off-limits. I am a very clean person and that kitchen has clearly been shared by only transients for years. Not that dishes were undone or food was left out, but that room has not been well scrubbed in far too long. I didn't care, I will visit Montreal again and would have no problem staying in that highly affordable individual room. Read more

I enjoyed my stay in Montreal tremendously and wish I could still be there to do more. The Jazz was a very easy place to adjust to (for me) because of the diversity of languages spoken and the cultures represented. Fortunately for me, I could handle the French and Spanish speaking people there because I speak those languages. I am not a huge fan of […] bunk beds and was fortunate to have the bottom on all but one night. Don't come here if you want total privacy, because that is impossible. If you are looking for a place to sleep and have a small breakfast, then go for it. If you are bothered by having up to seven other people in your room and aren't flexible, then don't come here. This is a Hostel, not a hotel. You share a room with 5 others in 3 bunk beds. The beds are small, and if you're over 6'2 you won't fit. The other guys in the room were nice and kept to themselves. The place is clean and in a very good location. The staff was pleasant and helpful. If you are in a group I would suggest getting one room in a regular hotel […] and splitting the cost. The room was not air conditioned and smelled of bug spray. There was one small face towel(did not look clean), and no other towels, no soap or shampoo. We lugged out luggage up the stairs ourselves. this is a hostel, which is not your typical hotel. the bathrooms have no soap, shampoo, etc. no ice machine, etc. room was cozy and was within a 10 minute walk to downtown st catherine st. recommended for anyone looking to stay on a budget as the price was great.

I got a "premium" room with my own bathroom and a balcony overlooking Rue Ontario. Positives: Great location (both nightlife and daytime fun), nice staff, decent rates. You get what you pay for and I didn't pay a lot so I definitely didn't get a lot. The bed was comfortable enough, although it was right in front of the dorm room door and there was traffic in and out all night. Bring ear plugs and a sleep mask if you stay at this hostel. Don't bank on the breakfast, there wasn't coffee, the machine was old and broken. […] The cereal was left out for hours and was stale. No bread, so all they had was peanut butter from a jar. The guest frig was one of those small dorm room frigs, it didn't fit anything, all my yogurt that I brought went bad. Reception isn't 24/7, it closes down at midnight and reopens at 8am. The room and bathroom was moderately clean, so I'll give them that. But, the lounge room was very dirty, I was afraid to sit down or touch anything. The security is terrible!! The dorm room door was never locked and often wide open with no one inside and the hostel entrance is on a combination lock with a code that was the same all three days. Parking cost me 38$ for the weekend and was 3 blocks away. Parking on the street is impossible to find at night. Organization for bed assignments was bad and people were found sleeping in other people's beds. Just remember if you stay here that this is a hostel in a party neighborhood. The hotel was clean, the staff was usually available and always polite. My only issue was that my bunk was not as securely fastened or put together as the others, and would rock violently as I tried to climb it, move on it, or touch it. That was at times a harrowing sleep, let me tell you.

We booked the private double loft room which is up on the third floor of this hostel. It has exposed brick walls, beams with modern lighting, a Jacuzzi, private bath and a front to back layout so opening the windows created a nice breeze (though it has a/c). It is what it is. It's ain't the Hilton but compared to the cost of the Hilton, I'll take it any day. I was only going to be there for one night and did not plan on being in the room except to sleep and perhaps freshin' up. It's similar to a hostel. The bath is shared but is in the room. A good choice for romantic people who appreciate the charm of an older building and a safe, but somewhat run-down neighborhood. Wanted to do a trip to Montreal on the cheap. Jazz St. Denis was perfect. Hostel style took a day or so to get used to, but there was no way to beat the price or convenience. They worked very well with my arrival and departure schedule. I arrived at 2 am on a weekday and had no problem getting inside and finding my bed. The staff was extremely courteous […] and helpful. It is a bit of a walk from public transportation (<10 min) which doesn't make a difference unless the weather is bad. Then you might reconsider the location. Otherwise, it was perfect. Overall it was quite nice, given the fact you do get what you pay for. Don't think I'm brave enough to eat or drink anything out of the kitchen and the bathrooms/toilets are a bit average. But not end of the world stuff! No aircon (as advertised) and had to have the window open to a very noisy night life while trying to sleep... But a good location […] if you're into said night life! Ended up leaving early (not due to the place! my situation changed) and the staff was very helpful in ensuring my refund was sorted through the website and generally helpful. Read more
