This Gulf of Mexico location presents some the whitest sand and deepest aquamarine water I have ever seen. Also, selectivity makes for a better dining experience. The Japanese specialty restaurant was delightful, but book it as soon as you arrive since reservations are filled early. The Cons: The wait staff can be overbearing and restrictive about outside dining rules. Although eating is permitted in the pool and beach areas, there are no written and/or prominently displayed signs(in any language) explaining that you cannot take ceramic/glass plateware or glases to carry food into the beach or pool areas. Unaware hotel patrons who attempt to do so are met by rude and confrontational wait staff prohibiting access to these areas with such items . Some of the rudeness is probably due to language difficulties. However, posted signs plus available plastieware would eliminate this problem. Beds are rock hard and the rooms smell old and musty. Our toilet broke and we had to call THREE times before someone came up to fix it. "Not good customer service"
well ... Booked 2 rooms for 7 days.. 3 people in the first room and 2 in the second. i booked it 3 months in advance. One month before the trip i called hotels.com to add one more person in the second room. The Hotels .com associate told me there was no charge because it was exactly the same as the first room.. ( two adults and a child) so there will […] be no extra charge. she added the name of the third person in a line called preferences instead of changing the whole reservation and assured me everything was taken care of. HOWEVER at our arrival at the Hotel it was chaotic. he hotel staff was not helpfull at all and told me we had to pay around $800 dollars for the extra person. i explained what happened with hotels .com and they told me there was nothing they can do because they didnt change the reservation completely. They told me I had to cotact hotels.com and talk to them. w were tired and desperate. The calls to USA are aprox $3 per minute and we had to use the lobby phone. The didnt help . I was able to talk to hotels .com and they were able to refund $400 for the inconvenience but the hotel did nothing. Once in the room.. ( we requested non smoking) it had cigarrette smell and even cigarette burns in the curtain.. Crazy.. The comforters are old and nasty, blankets are old too and it tKes forever to get them to send extra blankets etc to the room.. I was skeptical of the all-inclusive experience, but it seemed like a good thing to try--I typically rent apartments when traveling, but I needed the rest that came with not having to make plans and cook meals. I traveled with my seven-year-old daughter, and I needed to find a place that was family-friendly and wouldn't break the budget. The room was spacious, and the housekeeping was very thorough. The pool and beach areas could be a bit crowded at peak periods, but I learned to claim a lounge chair early on, like at breakfast time, in order to have a spot that was good for me (lots of shade is a must for me). My daughter really enjoyed the Riu Land kids' club, and after we got home, she was missing it and the women who work there. They have various crafts and activities all day, and then a kids' show at night after dinner, before the regular show for adults. The food was varied and, while not everything was super, I can't imagine many people having trouble finding something to eat that they'd enjoy. I appreciated the fact that I could eat things I liked and my daughter could also find things that suited her. The cons...pool gets shady after 4pm and the beach is not that big and a la carte restaurants needs 2 days advance reserving.
