Property needs to be modernized even if its historic. Carpets worn and stained. TV non-functional. We moved to the next-door sister property, Huntingdon Hotel after first night at Gatsby. At least this property was of 1960's vintage. Can not beat location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Grand historic home"
The location was superb and historic feel of the home was wonderful. Unfortunately, there was an unpleasant musty smell in the foyer. Perhaps the carpet needs to be replaced. The smell was not in the rooms, the rooms were very nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic, conveniently-located hotel"
We had a lovely time at the Gatsby Mansion/Guntingdon Manor. We stayed in the Judge's House, and had a lovely room overlooking the bay. The brunch in the restaurant was very yummy! We would definitely stay again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location is not everything"
The location, the restaurant and the staff made this stay pleasant. The beautiful old building is in poor repair and considerably less than immaculate, and the poorly kept grounds in this fabulous location were problems. "Pretty hotel until you get in your room"
Hotel is atractive until you get to your room. We stayed in #1. Carpet inliving area was stained and dirty. The sofa was beyond threadbare. Shredded and foam showing in many spots. Noise at night and early in morning was ridiculous. Entry area looks lovely. Food good but had to go through several items to pick something they had in stock.Genuine Expedia guest review

"nice Victorian charm"
Nice Victorian charm. We stayed in the Judge's House. Tall ceiling. Nice period furniture. Great location in the inner harbor, but a little loud, being that it is right next to the Main Street. WiFi didn't work. Breakfast on the deck of the main house was delightful on a nice Sunday morning. Overall great value, especially because parking was included. We stayed at The Gatsby for two nights and loved it! You can't beat the location, and the antique room decor was so cool. The bed was comfortable, and everything was pretty clean. I did struggle with not getting water on the floor from the claw-foot tub/shower, but that's a small price to pay since the tub totally fit the style of the mansion.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff indifferent to concerns. Type of room misrepresented. In spite of excellent location and price, would not return or recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Another wonderful part of British Columbia visit"
The hotel desk night manager was just marvelous at the Huntington Hotel, adjoining the Gatsby Mansion. The Gatsby Mansion breakfast was extraordinary and the room so very comfortable with a partial view of the harbor. Is was a very enjoyable part of our stay. "Would eat there but not stay there"
Our rooms were not as they were promised. We were supposed to have two rooms in the Gatsby, one on the first floor. They gave us one room in the Gatsby and the other in the Judges House. We needed to be together so both had to be in the Judges house. One person in our party really needed the first floor. Also we were looking forward to the Gatsby house […] with the lovely parlor. I would not recommend this hotel to others because of the room mix up. I was very clear when I made the reservation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

It was really fun staying at the Gatsby. The hotel is an amazing, charming, old mansion. We stayed in the section called the Judge's house. Our room was quite charming. "Overall disappointing experience"
We were hoping for a quaint place to stay, but this did not fit the bill. The building smelled and the bathroom was scary. This was the worst shower I have ever taken. There was almost no water pressure, which was not that much of a problem and was what I expected in an old building, but I lost hot water four or five times each time I showered, and […] even in July, the cold water is COLD in Victoria! We went down for breakfast one day and waited 40 minutes for coffee. When our breakfast came (an hour after we sat down), the bacon was raw. And that is no exaggeration. Even the waitress looked at it and said, "Gross!" I would never recommend the Gatsby to anyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Gatsby Mansion Inn is a Mixed Bag Experience"
We reserved a room at the Gatsby Mansion for a couple of private days in Victoria before joining our family on a family trip. Our first impression when we saw the outside of the Mansion and its great location across from the inner harbor was, "wow, this is great." Then after parking and searching for an entrance until we found check-in in an adjoining […] motel, we were a bit miffed and frustrated. They could improve the signage. The check-in person was polite and helpful. He gave us a key to our room in the Judge's House. Huh? I thought we reserved the Gatsby Mansion. "Oh no, there are three houses on the property and you are not in the Mansion." Well, that wasn't what we expected. Hotels.com needs to provide a better booking description. After some challenges finding the room, it was in a good location overlooking the harbor, though the window was mostly covered by overgrown shrubs. The room was clean and comfortable, but somewhat tired. The Judge's House was clearly a remodeled and repaired old house, but not a quality restoration. We had breakfast in the Gatsby mansion. Service was excellent. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for the price and location. If you want to stay in the Mansion, clarify the room location at booking. "Historic housing, conveniently located"
We stayed one night at the Gatsby. Overall it was a pleasing stay, especially since we decided to stay in an historic house. The decor was spot on for the time period and they clearly revere the history as they include a short description of the house and family upon check-in. One needs to understand however what being in an historic property means […] fully. There was no elevator - and we were on the 3rd floor. The claw-footed tub was lovely and equipped with a shower attachment, but if you require a real shower, you were out of luck. While the room was certainly clean, there were some maintenance issues, such as a door coming off the sink enclosure, that should have been dealt with sooner. The staff was courteous, but did not offer any particular help when we noted we were required to walk up to the third floor - my husband is 78 years old. The breakfast in the Gatsby House was fine, but again rudimentary service. One really wonderful aspect of the Gatsby is its location. It is an easy walk from the ferry dock in the Inner Harbor and accessible by foot to all of the wonders of downtown Victoria. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I liked the overall hotel, but our room number 3 had no heat and the first day we arrived was in the 50's. We had to go back to the front desk which is in the hotel behind the gatsby and they tried to find a heater, which they found took quite a while to heat oil heater up the room. "The perfect quaint period hotel"
What do you expect when you get a room in a house over 100 years old? For an old creeky wood floor mansion--it was perfect! The room was large with a living room, balcony, separate bedroom and a bathroom. There's no ordering movies on cable, and (gasp) no shower! All said, that's perfectly fine. When staying at the Gatsby Mansion the idea is to capture […] the feel and ambiance of the period, while keeping personal comfort in mind. It strikes a perfect balance between the two. It's perfect for a couple day getaway; if I wanted to shower I might eventually want a different hotel, but the bath was just fine :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel for those that like old mansions."
Our room was quite comfortable as we were there in May. The hotel is not air conditioned and could be uncomfortable if the weather was hot. The hotel is located quite near the Victoria Harbor and would be naturally cooled by the water but in the middle of summer some days are hot even in Victoria. Otherwise, the experience is an enjoyable one.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful view but I would not go back"
On the plus side the hotel is very convenient to US ferries and all attractions. The view from our room was excellent and the bed very comfy. However the property is in need of a make over. The carpets throughout the building were dirty with very noticeable stains on the light carpeting in our room. The curtains were coming off the rods. The Gatsby House […] is part of a complex of buildings that make up the establishment. There is no clear signage for check-in which is located in a different building across the garden and through another building. Breakfast is not included in the rate but available in the complex. However we tried to have breakfast at the Hunt Club located within the complex and waited 1 hour for our food and had to request coffee service and were told it was brewing this with only four tables to serve! Our food never arrived and we left. We went to a brunch service in one of the other buildings in the complex and I am glad to report had excellent service from that waitress(Hailey) who was working 10 tables alone. I probably would not stay at the Gatsby House again and could not recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Our stay was on the top floor of the Gatsby Mansion. As we arrived we had one minor concern, which the management staff immediately addressed. The building is quite lovely, but one had the feeling that it has become an afterthought in relationship to the larger hotel. As the kitchen was not in service, much of the house was vacant. The time we did spend in the place we did not see anyone, staff of guests. Postage size room, you don't really want to stay in the room other then to sleep. The hotel described the room as having premium channels for the T.V. ,bathrobes, daily maid service, black out drapes. None of these services were provided. The color on the T.V. was green. I stayed in the Gatsby Mansion in 2005 and really liked it, but things seem to have changed since then. I booked through Hotels.com and they told me that if i had booked through the hotel's site, breakfast would have been included. "My Private Mansion"
Beautiful property, conveniently located. The property had just changed hands so it's hard to tell what will be improved. The restaurant was closed for remodeling and there was no desk clerk. This is a comfortable hotel with the friendliness of a nice bed and breakfast. Everything was clean. Charming decorations and very "Victorian". If you can't climb stairs, I wouldn't recommend it as all the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd story and I did not notice an elevator (I could be wrong). "quaint and homey"
Our room was just what I expected, but if you're expecting all the modern amenities, this is not the place for you. Our corner room had a king sized bed, antique wardrobe, loveseat, and windows overlooking the harbor. There was a modernized bathroom with a shower. It was an old home, and some windows were painted shut, and the carpet and furniture showed […] some wear, but in my mind that's what made it quaint and homey. The restaurant downstairs served a very nice breakfast and the staff was friendly and helpful. At first the other couple vacationing with us was in another building - in the only room in that building, but the staff was able to move them to a suite across the hall from us. Their room was larger with a separate seating area, but no shower. If you're looking for something different from the usualy sterile modern hotel, this is it. I'd love to go back. "Nice place, crummy bed."
Note that we stayed in the Judges building, not the main Gatsby building, but you don't get to choose when booking (or I didn't anyway...) They had to change our room because our reserved room hadn't been cleaned (it was 8pm!)... the room was fine, but I was expecting more from a Victorian mansion. The bed was not good. Every move produced a loud creak, […] and the mattress was average to poor. Four-poster beds don't matter if you can't sleep. Two antique chairs in the room didn't make up for the feeling that it just wasn't a comfy place for us to hang out and spend time. Thank heaven the weather was gorgeous that weekend and we didn't have to spend a lot of time in the room. The onsite restaurant was average-to-high priced, with decent food (not great), but we only had the one breakfast there, so maybe not a fair judgment. "Great location, neat hotel, needs updating"
The Gatsby was in a great location on the harbor, close to shops, restaurants and bars, with a nice view. It's a very neat, historical hotel with beautiful gardens outside. Our bed and linens were very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. The rooms are definitely in need of a little overhaul though (e.g. carpet and paint), but overall, it was […] clean and comfortable. It has a very nice porch for having breakfast however they had no cook that day (or apparently the day before), so we had to go next door. This was a bummer because I was really looking forward to breakfast on such a beautiful porch. I do think it was a bit overpriced. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
