The location of this hotel was great - convenient to so many activities. There was also a movie theater and small shopping area next to the hotel which was very helpful for sundry items and snacks. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was delicious.

The Hilton Garden Inn was a great place to stay while visiting our child who attends Christopher Newport University. It was only 10 minutes from the campus. Hotel is located in what I consider a shopping district. There is a supermarket, movie theater, shops, and restaurants in the area. Hotel is very well kept. I was traveling from NJ and checked in about 2am. I had reserved a room with a king size but was given a room with 2 queens. We stayed over a weekend. The facility was kept immaculately, even the landscaping. Comfort was good, everything worked, the outlets were convenient, and the staff was very responsive. This isn't a luxury hotel, it's a family/business oriented place, but the quality of everything was certainly appropriate. Nicely appointed, comfortable bed and chairs, […] wifi included, clean appliances (mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave was spotless). Nice exercise and pool area, too. Admittedly, we are pretty low maintenance, so we didn't have that many occasions to use the staff, but here's a typical example of our interaction with them. I had just made a cup of coffee in the room, and the half and half had gone bad, "cheesing" my coffee. I called to the front desk to request some additional creamers (no urgency), and within minutes someone was knocking at my door with a smile and a handful of replacements. The hotel itself is at the end of a court. A short stroll will lead you to a decent grocery store, a few restaurants + fast food (we didn't have an occasion to use the hotel for breakfast - there was no dinner available on Friday night when we arrived), and a multiplex theater complex. It's often a crap shoot with a hotel in this class. Sometimes the faux wood creaks or has chips in it, the mattress is a little too worn, the bathroom grungy, but this place was bright, fresh, and comfortable, and even the lobby was very inviting. I'll break down my review in sections to make it easier: Service: The man at the front desk when I checked in was extremely nice. He had a great attitude and was welcoming. It's hard to find that nowadays when you stay at hotels. Check out was smooth and the lady was equally pleasant. She chatted with me during the process and had a constant smile […] on her face. Great service. The Hotel: My only quip was that the vending machine on my floor wouldn't work. I had to go down a floor to get a soda. Not that big a deal. The set up of the front lobby was absolutely lovely. They had a Christmas tree sitting in the center decorated with warm colors. When you walk in you'll also notice a fire place to your left - which was lit and keeping the lobby a very cozy temperature. It added a certain ambiance to the atmosphere; Which was certainly welcoming, given the holiday season and the chill outside. The lobby was fully decorated and the staff seemed in good spirits. The Room: I had a standard king-bed room. Nothing fancy. I was impressed with the kitchenette as I wasn't expecting it. The room had a coffee maker, a microwave, and a mini fridge. All compacted into one efficiently placed floor to ceiling cabinet space. It looked like it belonged in the room and the quality was decent. The room was also equipped with a flat screen TV - a very nice addition as I wind down at night by watching some shows. The bathroom was your standard fare. The bed was fantastic. Hilton has invested, at least in this hotel, in an off brand of sleep by number beds. I was able to adjust the softness (or firmness) of my bed. This is adjustable on both sides of the King bed. My only discrepancy with this was user error. I'm used to a hybrid foam and spring mattress and went overboard with the softness. Killed my back by the following morning! Stayed here on Nov25 for one night. Thanksgiving with family out of town. Hotels.com had a good price and it was a Hilton. Very nice place. The buffet breakfast was kinda expensive as we are not big breakfast eaters. Should have gone to McD's instead. But the facility and room were first class.

We've stayed at several Newport News hotels in the past few years (our daughter goes to CNU) and this was definitely one of my favorites. Although it's a bit farther from campus than some of the others, the hotel is very nice, the room was large and comfortable, and the breakfast, including made-to-order eggs, was very good. I highly recommend it.

We often go to Hilton Garden Inns and this Inn was by far the best one that we have been in!! The Staff was outstanding, and the room wonderful. Coming from an earlier part of our trip where we couldn't find any food late night, coming to a hotel that had a "pavilion" where they sold all types of meals to heat, drinks, snacks, etc. 24 hours a day was […] a treat and our teens were happy because they could just charge them to our room. On the days that we were very late getting out of our room, a package of linens, toiletries, etc. was made up for us and left at the front desk so that we didn't miss "maid service" just because we wanted privacy. This Hilton Garden Inn is less than 10 minutes from Newport News airport and close to a gas station, which made this location convenient for a late arrival and early departure with a rental car. The breakfast was not included in our room cost, it was an additional $20 for the two of us. Nevertheless, the breakfast offerings included made to order omelets, […] pancakes, waffles, an assortment of cereals, breads, and juices and a very attentive hostess. It was well worth it since after driving around the only breakfast restaurants we found nearby were Waffle House, McDonalds and Cracker Barrel. There is a movie theater, grocery store, and several restaurants within walking distance. It took less than an hour to get to Norfolk and Virginia Beach. We were only half an hour from Bush Gardens and Williamsburg. My only complaint about our stay was the mattress. It was supposed to have adjustable firmness, but it never made it past half inflated air mattress firmness. It was so uncomfortable I considered pulling out the sofa bed. For a short stay it was a minor inconvenience, but if we were staying longer I would have asked for another room. Outside of that small issue I would recommend this hotel when staying in Newport News. Read more

I picked this hotel for the airport shuttle and the advertised room service/hotel restaurant as I was trying to avoid getting a rent-a-car. However, upon arrival I found that the room service and hotel restaurant is not available on weekends. My daughter has Asperger's Syndrome and has trouble with crowds in restaurants, so room service was very important […] to me. The staff was very helpful in finding delivery places, but the description should mention that the hotel does not run an in-house food service on weekends. I was dismayed because I'd forgotten my pillow, which I usually take with me when I travel, but the pillows in the room were very comfortable and supportive. I didn't miss mine at all. We decided to have breakfast at the hotel rather than go out, and were glad we did. Not only was it delicious, it was very reasonably priced. There were a lot of options, the fruit was fresh, as were the pastries. The server was very friendly and attentive, keeping our coffee cups filled, and taking plates as we finished with them. The chef was very friendly, but the best thing was that he listened. I'm a little particular about how I like my eggs. He made them perfectly, exactly the way I asked for them. It made breakfast that much more enjoyable. My only suggestion to the hotel would be to perhaps change coffee brands. It was ok, but tasted like pretty much every other hotel coffee. Something a little more robust would be nice. My only complaint about the hotel is that the walls are very thin. We were able to hear every word of conversations that took place in the hallway, and not in raised voices, either. Luckily, the hotel was quiet at night, and we slept peacefully and well. We came from Saudi Arabia to visit with family, and it was very nice to have a quick check-in and to not have any issues with the room after a 25 hour trip. We had repeat problems with our key. The clerk at the hotel could not have been more accommodating and kind. She had a gentleman mulling over his bill with a fine tooth comb at the same time. She also handled a check-in at the same time with much grace. Nice hotel.
