We made a last-minute booking at the Auberge de Cassagne in the midst of an arduous three-week business trip. We both needed to unwind a bit, and the on-premise Spa provided great opportunities for that. We had initially booked a conventional double room, but perhaps since it was the off-season, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite upon arrival. The staff was charming and accomodating, with great suggestions for activities and indulgences during our stay. Highly recommended!

While this hotel is a few km outside of Nimes downtown, it was easy enough to get there, but does require a car. The staff were very friendly, helpful and available. The breakfast, at 10 EUR, may have been a little overpriced (tea/coffee, juice, bread, some cheese and a salami), but was still quite nice. The shower had a hand-held wand with no way to attach, so this was less then desirable. Still, the location was good, and staff great, and we would stay there again.

A short guide to Arles

Founded by the Greeks in 600 BC, Arles then became 'little Rome'. Roman remains include a remarkably intact arena (now used for bullfights), baths, theatre and a vast necropolis. But this compact city on the Rhône is perhaps best known for its colourful houses and winding streets, depicted in so many of Van Gogh's canvases during his prolific period here. The excellent Van Gogh Trail is marked by plaques embedded in the footpaths.

The hotel is in need of serious modernisation. The rooms are very tired and ours was filthy. The facilities are equally run down. Can't comment on the restaurants; we couldn't bring ourselves to eat in them.

Maeva is a fairly large holiday camp a few miles from Arles. From the info on this site I was expecting half a dozen rooms around a pool. The place and facilities were ok if a bit run down. Staff were friendly. Meava is probably a great option for families but was not what we were expecting.

Lo mejor: el hospedarse en la misma naturaleza junto a unos paisajes idílicos de la Provenza y a sólo dos minutos en coche de Arlés. Los niños estuvieron dando de comer a las cabras y montando en pony en pleno campo y viendo los patos pasando al lado de tu habitación. Despertarse por la mañana y poder desayunar viendo el lago. Volveremos.

Slitt hotellanlegg med vond lukt på rommet..., men gode senger! Hotellet ligger et stykke utenfor Arles, som for øvrig ikke var så koselig by som forventet. Men hotellet er et bra utgangspunkt for å oppleve Camargue. Hotellet var litt for gammelt og slitt for vår smak...frister ikke til gjentakelse...

Residence fuori dal centro di Arles ma facilmente raggiungibile con la macchina. Ottima la vicinanza (circa 1 km) da un grande centro commerciale. Monolocale di 28 mq. piccolo ma adeguato per starci qualche giorno, forse ingestibile per permanenze più lunghe.

Quelle déception de voir les piscines vides d'eau en début de saison ! Douches à l'eau froide dans la salle de bains... Calme; Ah! Oui, du calme... Loin de tout. Chambre d'hôtel... avec lit à préparer soi-même... en louant draps et serviettes... Sans parler de l'ambiance et du service digne d'une administration.
