Need to be aware that it is an hour drive from the airport, also, it's on the northern most part of Punta Cana and on the North Atlantic coast - so ocean cannot really be swimmed in - the water is extremely rough. This is truly a beautiful resort. We were greeted with cold champagne & cold hand towels. Our luggage was whisked away to our suite.We were escorted, to the excellence club for check in, got a tour of the resort en route. We were in awe of the size of the lobby and how beautiful it is. After check in, tour of the club lounge, we were escorted to our […] suite where our bags were already waiting. We had a junior club suite. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary, there was a “anniversary” banner hung on the door, rose petals on the bed with two towels shaped like swans, a bowl of fresh fruit & champagne. We aslo got a champagne breakfast in bed and a special table with a personalized menu at a restaurant of our choice on our anniversary. Room was great, clean, big, beautiful & comfortable. There were full size bottles of premium brand liquor, snacks, a full mini-fridge w/juice, sodas, wine & beer. There was always someone walking around with drinks or food. Every afternoon someone would bring pastries to our room. There was nightly entertainment w/shows typical of what those on a cruise ship, except better. A must see is the Michael Jackson show! Some of the restaurants have a dress code so I would recommend packing as you would for a cruise, ‘casual elegance’ they called it. We stayed over the New Year holiday for an entire week, the service and the staff were great! The food was not as great, The Lobster house and the Agave had the best food on the resort. Martini Bar with bartender Jose..The best! Rooms were very nice, nicer than expected. They staff was very helpful. First experience at the Excellence Resorts and we were not disappointed! We went in January 2013 and stayed in an ocean view room and it was beautiful. When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with champagne. The resort and most restaurants are open air which is really breath taking. Great food choices and delicious drinks! It rained in the morning […] but cleared quickly with lower to mid 80 degree temps. The beach and pools were nice. If you want a beach with calm water, you will need to look elsewhere as the water was rough though but this was not a big deal for us. One pool has a lot of activities during the day with music and a swim up bar. The other pool is calm and peaceful. Transportation is cheaper with a shuttle instead of a cab if it is not included in the travel. Lots of options for excursions off property for extra cost but plenty to do at the resort that is included. Our vacation could be as relaxing as we wanted it to be! Wish we could have stayed longer! Average resort that didn't quite live up to its star rating. Would only recommend if you are okay with the following: Pool and beach were outstanding. We had great weather. Food was not very good - sometimes cold, sometimes overcooked, mostly just not very tasty. Some good meals here and there. The mixed drinks were very sweet and/or watered down […] - tasted like diet drinks. The beer and wine were decent. The staff was very attentive if not overly friendly. They weren't mean, but save for a few nice people, most everyone seemed indifferent. We did tip most of the time, but it did not make much difference. Lots of activities, but everything seemed second rate. For example, the mini-golf was just grass that they tried to cut as short as possible. The pool activities were lame, except for pool aerobics which was easy and fun. The gym is excellent, but most of the other activity facilities needed some updating. The evening activities were fun. The set-up (A/V and stage) seemed a little bit homemade and outdated, but the entertainment was a lot of fun for us. Be aware of the dress code. In my opinion, the dress code was nice as everyone got dressed up in the evening. Since the resort is pretty isolated, most people stay there so it made it seem more like you were going out. Be aware of the guys walking around the pool to sell you excursions. Listen to what they have to say, but be sure to see the guys at the kiosks insde the resort first before you make a decision. But after that, no problem. Excellence Club: We did not upgrade. We seriously considered splurging at check in, but then decided to think about it and explore the resort a little more. We knew we could always upgrade if we wanted to later. My feeling is that the amenities are already plentiful. There is drink service on the beach for everyone. Club members have a roped off area of the beach and their service includes food. That section to me always looked far more crowded. For dinner, try Spice, Barcelona, and Oregano. The Excellence Punta Cana has some of the worst conceirge service we have experienced in our travels. As a whole, The DR is still a very poor country and the level of service and amenities you may find in Mexico or other areas of the caribbean […] with a longer established history of tourism is certainly less in the DR. The staff bent over backwards to provide a great experience. The rooms are a good size with a great shower ans huge hot tub. The pool spans the length of the compound which was pretty cool. Many bars and restaurants to choose from and they plan a ton of activities. I would recommend excellence to everyone.

Excellence Punta Cana was an absolute wonderful all inclusive resort. The grounds were very nice and well kept. People cleaning all the time. Two that deserve mentioning are Pedro and Yefirri. They were exceptional. The room was nice and comfortable. We stayed in building 10 inside the Excellence club. Very nice. All kinds of snacks and drinks available all day and evening. They do have waiter service around the pool and the beach but the service was kinda slow. Just as easy to go to one of the 13 bars and get your own. They were never too far away. The only other complaint I have is there were "activities guys" that would walk around the pool and beach trying to sell you excursions. Fishing trips, horseback rides, atv trips etc. Took a day or two for them to undersand we were not interested. Other than that is was very enjoyable and we will go back. Great resort. I had checked here and on TripAdvisor before booking, mostly positive reviews. Any issues are promptly addressed by the staff; food is great, so is entertainment. Ocean is little rough, but we found a spot about half mile on the right (if you face the ocean), no waves. We would definitely come back to the resort
