Tunnel Mountain Resort - Banff

We got a loft with kitchen unit so we could cook. It was the absolute bare minimum as far as what was included in the kitchen (ie: 5 forks for my family of 5), no pots, bakeware, etc. The hotel was a little older which is fine, but not clean at all. I had to wipe off surfaces of bedside tables, sweep the floor, there was hair in the bathroom, baseboards […] hadn't been cleaned in forever - not very pleasant. For the price, this hotel is a great place to stay. We were very impressed with all of the granite in the room and were surprised to find out we had a balcony. The only thing is that the gas fireplace was nothing but one little blue flame. Hahah It hardly looked like a fire. Staff was nice and friendly. Parking was sufficient. Neighborhood is generally very quite being that it is up the mountain a ways but close enough to walk to town. The common area was a bit tight, but the loft was spacious enough. The basic problems were that we could hear the neighbors and with kids it was not a good thing. We turned the bathroom fan […] on to dampen the barrage. The kitchen was missing utensils such as a knife to cut up cheese and veggies. There were no paper towels, but considering the focus on recycling we were okay with it. The shower knob was all screwed up and you had to turn it to the middle to turn it off and far right to get to warm. The blanket in the bedroom was so staticky that it was kind of a nuisance. I stayed in a one bedroon with kitchen unit for 5 nights, and was very happy on it. The bus station is in front of the resort, a small (expensive) grocery store is very close. Hiking trails are around this area. Good place to stay.

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times and always felt comfortable. I have even recommended this hotel many times to friends. I feel they must have changed owners because this trip was very disappointing. The room was not clean...(traveling with a 13 month old) I went around with wet wipes cleaning everything and the wipes were disgusting and sticky! […] The bathroom was moldy. The carpet was not vacuum with little plastic tags from clothing all over the floor. The “heated” pool was cold as was the pool area so it made swimming in the pool similar to swimming in the glacial waters of Banff. My husband too was very disappointed - one of the amenities he liked about Tunnel Mountain was the fireplace but NOW we have to call the front desk wait for wood to be delivered and we actually have to pay for the wood what hotel has a fireplace but doesn’t supply the wood. We stayed in a one-bdrm suite and it was not what we had hoped for. The furniture was worn out and in the case of the couch, outright dirty. We covered it with a blanket to make it bearable. The hotel has lost it's modern edge and appears very dated circia 1970. However, it was still very functional with WIFI, good fitness center, hot tub, and a whirlpool tub in our room. It is located a little ways from the down town area (5 sq blocks) out on Tunnel Mt Rd. All this means is you may need to make a short drive into to town for more meal […] choices. The location was about perfect for us - away from the congestion and craziness of downtown, but close enough to walk there in about 15 minutes. This is an older hotel, as are many in the area. We had a unit with a full kitchen and a loft, which was wonderful as we were able to cook breakfasts and some dinners ourselves and not have to eat out for every […] meal. There is a coin laundry on the grounds, which was very useful midway through the trip. The two downsides were that 1) the mattresses were harder than I would have prefered, although my husband thought they were fine, and 2) we could hear the train whistles every couple of hours during the night, which was definitely a minus. I was more than impressed by my stay. I had an Executive suite, which was spacious. I appreciated the many features of the room (Separate shower with steamer, jacuzzi tub, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, tea kettle, gas fireplace and a balcony with an AMAZING view. It was perfect. I also enjoyed being so close to downtown Banff, yet not in the […] middle of it. It is also close to the attractions. I highly recommend driving down Bow Valley Pkwy and stopping to see the sights, doing some hiking trails and watching to spot some wildlife. If you do this, I would further recommend hiking up to Johnston Canyon (lower and upper falls, but would not bother with Ink Spots). I will definitely stay at Tunnel Mountain Resort again. We were impressed with the service here -- we only booked one night on hotels.com, but decided at the last minute to stay an extra night, and the hotel staff accommodated that request easily and with minimal hassle. The two nights were two separate bookings, due to the nature of an online booking, but our experience in adding the night (aside from missing […] out on the lower rate!) was painless. The hotel seemed like a very good deal for a nice weekend away -- the room had amenities like a down comforter, microwave and fridge, DVD player, heated tile floors, a jacuzzi tub, steam room shower, and in-room fireplace. I tend to be cold, so the extra warm touches were perfect for me. Next time, we might try upgrading from the executive suite to the larger one, with a separate living room, but the executive suite is still larger than an average hotel room, so there was no shortage of space. We'll probably stay here again the next time we're in Banff. It's a little ways off the main drag, but only about a 5-minute drive downtown. It was a bit too cold to walk when we were there, but in nicer weather, not a strenuous walk (although a lot of shopping could make it so -- coming back would be an uphill walk, and I'm not sure I'd want to do that with a lot of bags). I think that the only complaint we had about the room all weekend was that the parking outside was a bit tight, so getting out of the spot when the lot was full required some manoeuvring. Read more

The location is about a mile from downtown Banff so it was really quiet but I had to get back in the car to go where the action is. Location does provide a good jumping off point to ski resorts. Vents on stove didn't work so room always smelled like stale food. Not much charm but otherwise perfectly adequate. I'll look elsewhere next trip.

The location was beautiful and it was peaceful being outside of the town. If you have a car, it is a short distance and convenient to get around town. If I wanted to enjoy more of the nightlife I would have stayed in the town site more. The first room we had was kind of basement like, although still offering the amenities we wanted (kitchen, jacuzzi […] tub, fireplace) and had an annoying ringing sound so they upgraded us with some effort on our part. The second room was nice, too stuffy at first (like the vent hadn't been opened the last time the fireplace was used) but by the next morning it was fine. If you're looking for comfortable and plush beds, this is not the place. The king in the upstairs loft is actually two twins pushed together which was hard to get used to, however the hide-a-bed is decent and the downstairs full bed was firm but seemed new and comfortable. It was great having two balconies with opposite views, and would be very nice place to hang out in the warmer seasons. Overall, the staff was only friendly enough for us not to get upset with them. They had a few recommendation for dining but, in my opinion, they needed to know more about the hikes and outdoor activities. We actually spent half of one of our days lost because the front desk employee sent us on a wild goose chase as to what should have been a very simple hike, only out the front doors of the hotel. Overall, good value if you need a lot of space, some privacy because the lower bedroom door closes. Read more

The Inn was a short, plesant drive from downtown Banff set in the mountains. The local bus service stopped in front of the Inn if we didn't wish to drive downtown, only about 8 minutes away.
