"Good family complex with plenty of activities."
Stayed in a townhouse with 2.5 bedrooms in the Bocage part of the development for a week in Aug 2013. Townhouse was a good size for a family of 4-6, with a decent kitchen, recently decorated and very clean. Plenty of facilities on site for families, and also lots of activities if you want organised things to do. A little like Centerparcs, but more relaxed. […] Nice area for sporting activities, with plenty of cycle paths and nice beaches. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Centre Parcs in the sun"
Resort is located in a beautiful area of France. We went by car so had the freedom to get about the area. There were various types of accommodation on site but we had booked two 4/5 person apartments. On arrival it appeared that they only had one apartment for us but this was sorted and we got keys for two apartments. Unfortunately we had requested […] at least on ground floor apartment but we didn't get this. On hindsight I should have contacted the hotel before we arrived to check on my special request. Our apartment was very clean when we arrived with bed linen waiting for us to make up beds. Bath and hand towels needed to be rented from reception upon arrival. There was only 2 adults and one child in our apartment and it was very adequate. Each apartment was kitted out for 5 people but it would have been very overcrowded if it contained 5 adults. There was a number of restaurants on site but with just a short walk to the port a number of other restaurants can be found. The main pool area is very clean and patrolled by a number of pool guards. Guests are issued with a wrist band on arrival by reception and when we were there these were only checked on busy days. It's worth noting that the colour of band changes weekly. If like us you are staying for longer than a week you need to go back to reception on a Saturday to get a new band for the next day. We were not told this and it caused a bit of an issue on our second Sunday morning when trying to get into the pool area.

Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice pleasant vacation"

We stayed for 4 days in August. The house that we has was comfortable and clean. It could have benefited from an oven as we were tired of eating out having spent 10 days elsewhere. There is a pool beside the houses so that is convenient. There is mini train service to the centre and the beach which is used by many. There us a reasonable selection of restaurants nearby. We took a trip into sable d'ollone via the main road. It was a traffic nightmare and took hours. Best avoided as it is nothing spectacular anyway.
"Overall a Disappointment"

This is our fourth visit to this holiday village after a period of five years and having holidayed in other holiday villages in other countries, it badly needs to be updated in all areas. The check in is badly disorganised and could be simply rectified. The accommodation is tired and needs to be refreshed, not having a grill oven or BBQ is simply not acceptable anymore. The bed in our accommodation was so hard it was almost comical. There is not enough storage in the houses while I appreciate more storage means more cleaning for the cleaning crew. The lack of storage especially in the kitchen area is really poor. The most disappointing area for us was the main pool area. This is nothing short of dangerous and I would be amazed if they have never received complaints about this before now. The concrete tiles are broken and uneven and those that are fixed are badly done and breaking off. The entrance into the pool area is dirty and not at all hygienic, although there is an area for shoes there is no one policing people carrying their shoes/flip flops into the area and continuing to walk around the pool area. The levels are uneven and there is no colour differentiation of tiles or railings to alert you to this. The filtering around the edges of the pool are green and mouldy and the debris from the trees is not swept up thus encouraging flies etc. The beds are old and there are not enough umbrellas. The pool attendendants/life guards have to be the most unhappy crew I have met in a long time, so smiling faces here and they seem to close up the slides when it suits them with no explanation. The evening entertainment is dead loss unless you speak French (which we do!). There is no effort to welcome other nationalities, again this is no longer acceptable in 2014. The launderette is expensive and for the entire stay one of the machines was broken in the Moulin area. The green fees are pricy too and while I know this isn’t governed by the resort, the resort is surrounded by the golf course so a “substantial discount” should be provided. We didn’t avail of any of the kids clubs mostly because everyone spoke French and while our command of the French language is good, our children’s isn’t and again it’s expensive. We were really looking forward to returning to Port Bourgenay but having holidayed in other resorts it's just not up to par for the price anymore and we were disappointed overall in what could have been a great holiday. The feeling we got was that no money was being invested in the resort. There are lots of areas in need of refurbishing and upgrades. All that said, it is in a good location with a fantastic beach close by and some pretty towns worth exploring in the area. There is a Super U supermarket in Talmot St. Hilaire (closest town to Port Bourgenay) and a Lidl to stock up on groceries.

Had a great two week holiday in Port-Bourgenay this month. Staff were friendly and professional, accomodation was clean and comfortable (we had a house in the Bocage section) and there were lots of activities for the children. Good beach a couple of km away, with a little train to take you there. Large supermarket in Talmont-St-Hislaire is only 5min away by car. One negative - the wifi network is hopeless and expensive. Don't bother! Frequent disconnections, difficulties with the authentication server and very slow.
"DO not stay here!!!"

This looked like a promising holiday, it was far from that. First off, if you are sensitive to the heat and enjoy A/C to cool off, these houses do not have A/C. The place also smells very musty and the photos do not accurately depict how small the accommodations actually are. We were booked for one week and we could only bear two nights. They would not refund our $, but the accommodations were so inadequate and the heat so terrible that we had to leave.
"Advice for all English travellers - book 4 star accomodation and you will have NO problems"

I've been coming down to the vendee for 12 years - this is lovely French holiday village, well kept, lots of open spaces, relaxed, safe and will give you the French experience. very walkable 15 restaurants in the local area, couple of nice beaches and in Sables a very nice town (a meal on the port is a lovely experience) Parts of this village .... Circa 250 houses and apartments are older (20 per cent) and are deemed 3 star I've always booked 4 star and I have never had a problem - these are all built within the last 10 years and are very respectable Lots of these are privately owned and owners have to completely refurbish every 10 years in order to rent via the site Some reviews on here are poor but the accomodation can easily be avoided - if the weather is kind you will have a great holiday

Not impressed with this place, accommodation is dated, sitting here with no hot water all day, blocked sink and nobody to contact. Been at pool all day and it seems everyone off the street just came in so no control over usage despite us having to wear wristbands (we appear to be the only ones wearing them). Plus flies are a problem, not outside but in the accommodation for some reason.

Very large hotel compund which caters almost exclusively for french-speking people. It's a fairly nice hotel and we got a good deal going there. However, some issues did lessen our initial positivity to the place: All children activities are in french. If your kids don't speak french it's hard to follow what's going on. Beware that photos on the website doesnt match the room you're booking.
"Expensive for Kids"
07/15/14 Angela C County Cork, Ireland
No free activities for kids. All kids activities cost 20€ per day per child which covered both morning and afternoon sessions. Travelled with 5 kids aged from 10 to 15 so paying 100€ per day adds up bigtime over 10 days.

Everything lived up to the promises of the website and this is so rare that we really were delighted with our family holiday especially the 5 pools. Although when it gets in the busier part of the season this may not be so enjoyable for those who seek a more relaxed place. Only real problem was a woeful WIFI service for a payed service
10/01/13 Golfinnut333 Ruthin, United Kingdom
Good place to stay. Internet very expensive and slooooooowww. Golf expensive, even bordering on extortionate. Check where you are staying on site as some parts are starting to look and feel drab. Staff good and friendly. Good beach within short ride.
