Lovely small room with fantastic view over parkland but advertised wifi was actually an adsl cable so could only work at a desk & it wasnt free it was narrow banded for 30min then pay afterthat, couldnt connect at all the next morning which caused me massive problems & detracted from otherwise very nice room

A beautiful old building, reception satff are excellent, the surrounding gardens are very nice. The bad news is that there is NO heating in the rooms, we froze our backsides off! The food in the bar is very poor. Its a shame that these last 2 points spoil an otherwise very good hotel

although there was a cleaner every day during our stay , our bed sheets was seemed to be very stained with old dryed blood spots ,my relatives and friends stayed and there sheets was the same. Not good considering its a 4 / 5 star hotel. breakfast food was ok but certain things that seemed like they aere few days old and recooked.

A good location and an impressive looking hotel. Unfortunately, my first room did not smell very good. I soon found out that the carpet in the room was soaking wet. The staff were very appologetic and moved me to another (better room). Unfortunately I found out in the morning, the shower did not work, I could not get it hot. It was on a snowy and horrendous weather day that i travelled to the hotel. It was only after driving 190 miles that i discovered that my car tyres do not like snow and uphill gradients. This was on the drive up to the hotel. On calling reception to let them know, they sent 2 members of staff who rescued me and helped me to get the car off the slope […] and access the hotel via a different access road. I was then offered an upgrade to my room. All I can say as a female travelling alone, I was made to feel safe and secure, and very well cared for. We stayed here because it was a hotel we had shortlisted as a potential venue for our wedding. It has now been crossed off the list. I'll start with the good - the staff are very friendly, that is not just the front of house staff, we had a good chat with one of the chefs too. The Grounds are pretty nice too. So the less good - the rooms are very […] hit and miss. The room we were first given was a good size but we asked to move because there was a constant hum from a boiler. The room we moved to was quieter, whilst a double room it was too small for two people and got very hot. Not somewhere i wanted to spend any longer than necessary. Some of the furnishings could do with repair/updating, the tv was channels 1-5, the on demand didn't seem to work and neither did the wifi. We planned to spend the weekend in the hotel relaxing, after all they have a spa. Sadly this was a disappointment, the changing rooms were tiny and grotty and most of the lockers were broken. The pool was cold and for some reason all the lights were off. The steam room, well, just was not steamy. We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant, we were told it was closed, so headed into town for food. Overall it was nowhere near expectations and we left after just one night instead of two. Very smooth and professional check in. Room generally comfortable, although the were a few maintainance issues. The hair dryer didn't produce any heat, the chair at the dressing table was falling apart - literally. There was a huge rip in the carpet between the two beds, as I was staying there with my son and didn't want him tripping I pushed the beds […] together. The first thing to note is the exceptional friendly and helpful manner of each member of staff from reception to house keeping to the gym. It makes such a difference. We were very disappointed in that our room smelled profoundly of sewage! I located that the smell was issuing out of the bath plug hole. Selsdon Park is an imposing building that looks like it was a care home/hospital in its previous life! Out of interest I'll be checking this out!!The staff on reception were very pleasant but I'd booked 2 rooms for 2 nights for 4 adults and had requested a twin room for my 2 adult children but on our arrival we were told there were no twins available […] (nor were there any king sized rooms left) so my son and daughter had no option but to accept being squashed into a small double room with an extra fold-away bed. This was extremely rickety and the mattress had seen better days as you could feel the frame of the bed through it! Not at all what you would expect from a hotel like this. The hotel seemed full to capacity and I was told that had there not been several wedding parties on during our stay they would have upgraded us to a better room. The location was not too bad for getting into the City and we drove ourselves to the station paying £12 to park the car each day at the station.There was supposed to be a shuttle from the hotel but we were not told about it at reception and the service was limited if it went at all! We have had better breakfasts although it was OK and included in the price we paid. The hotel pool and changing rooms are in desperate need of refurbishing. Only 2 showers,no staff around and no spin dryer! Overall, the hotel did the job! Booked Saturday & Sunday nights. On arrival requested booking in restaurant for dinner on Saturday to to told fully booked but hotel would provide a list of other restaurants for us to drive to. Apparently all public rooms the gardens lounges and outside terace had been allocated to weddings and parties. Only room available to all other guests (and […] many golfing parties who had booked weekend breaks with DB&B) was 1 small bar staffed by one bar tender who had a limited understyanding of English and had no idea where anthing was kept. Hottest weekend of the year and we were restricted to the inside of the hotel unless we went off site. Most if the hotel and its rooms are not airconditioned. Our room was small but clean. Unfortunately the towel rail in the bathroom could not be turned off (maintenance available 12.00pm Sunday to repair) and without a/c it became a suana at night. Needless to say we had little sleep. A great venue with so much potential but everything needs modernising. The grounds could do with better maintenance. It felt like it was a Golf Hotel with a spa chucked in an attempt to appeal to other types of guests. Such a shame the spa was situated in the Leisure Centre which didn't give a good impression. Far too expensive for what the hotel offers. The rooms we first got were not even close to a 2 star accommodation. We later transferred to better rooms, but even these had seen better days. The carpet was dirty, and there was mold in the bathroom. Only some of the staff was very helpful, but the rest was bad. 1 night stay, felt 2nd class.No offer of help with taking cases to our room. Put into Lower ground room-very hot, no temp control;noise from lorries un/loading outside, trollies being wheeled about and crates clattering at very unsocial hours-ie after midnight and before 6am, so not much sleep! Toilet difficult to flush and bowl stained,light over bathroom […] mirror not working. Nowhere to hang towel near to shower. The corridor outside our room was unkempt, dirty glasses were outside our door when we checked in at 3pm and were still there the following day when we checked out at 10.30.
