We traded a time share to stay at this hotel. The hotel setting is beautiful and there is a lot to do in the area. We did the "welcome tour" to get a free breakfast but whatever else you are told about it, understand that it is a sales pitch for the "point system" which is technically a different animal than a traditional time share. The whole process […] took almost three hours from beginning to end and was just as high pressure as other presentations of that kind. Note that waiters, maids and bellmen were all very nice. We had some issues with staff who, while very helpful with local tour advice, did not explain the "fine print" on our travel vouchers fully. We went all inclusive. Facility is really a time share. They really put the pressure on when you arrive to take the tour/talk. Have to sign receipt for everything you do. Only one elevator in the main building. One main restaurant and one bar (with few seats)/restuarant (for dinner) Nightly entertainment good but no seats for audience.. This was our 2nd visit to Villa Del Palmer- 1st time was Cancun. Property is beautiful. It is a ways from Puerta Vallarta, so plan to pay to go into town. The all-inclusive is the way to go,but it does not include everything. There is nothing in your kitchen that is included, they don't even replace your coffee. All-inclusive states that tax and tip […] are included, but the servers are not happy if you don't leave them more on the bill. The other thing is you have to sign for everything. What's the point of an all-inclusive if you receive a bill for every purchase? There is no coffee bar for the morning, so be prepared for someone to have to wait on you and sign a bill just to get your morning coffee. Lots of great excursions available, if you pay cash you get a discount. Food is best at the restaurants-buffets,so-so. My husband and I have stayed in several of the all inclusive hotels along the same beach and by far, this hotel is número UNO!!!! We prefer the all inclusive meal plan that is offered for $85.00 US/day because we are really on vacation, no shopping, no cooking, no cleaning, no sneaking snacks in the bag poolside, and no time spent on frivolous mundane […] chores. The food at the Trattoria is excellent, both day and night, the food at the Bella is sub standard, except for breakfast where they have buffet set p and a huge selection of food, eggs al gusto too! We are not timeshare owners and would never dram of it, it's all one BIG scam, we've been down there over 15 times in the past 7 years, the staff greet us by our first name when the taxi pulls up for our arrival. The staff are all exceptionally cordial and will go beyond their base work to accommodate your every need. WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Book it, keep an eye out for a good deal through expedia as they come along frequently, especially in January for a June or fall booking. Oh, don't forget to walk north up the beach for a $20 US dollar massage at Alex's, he the last one setup way up the beach. Afterward head to Buscerias flea market, grab some chips, salsa and a margarita at Claudio's Meson bay, sit on the beach or in the restaurant. Go see for yourself, we NEVER tire of this trip. The room was spacious and clean but lacked the ocean view for which I had payed extra money. We were given a second floor room with a musty smell and a view of palm trees. We could see the ocean if we strained our neck over the balcony. The staff explained that all their rooms had only "partial ocean view". While the hotel staff was very courteous the hotel management should put a few measures in place to avoid the unnecessary noise we suffered (floor polishing after 11pm outside our balcony, sound checks before 8am, etc.). In addition, painting repairs were being completed on our corridor and we breathed the fumes from their spraying. We stayed 4 nights the first week in July. Our 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite was large, clean, comfortable, and fabulous. We had pool and ocean view, same as, I believe, all rooms on the property. Beach was great and staff was friendly. There were 2 things that we did not like. First, was the pressure to buy a membership into their program; we spent half […] of our first day on their sales pitch, even though we told them up front that there was no way we were going to buy. Second, was that, on checkout, they wanted to charge us, I think, about 50 pesos a day for tips for the staff. We tipped more than that while we were there; so I signed a form that I refused to pay this, and I noted that the quantity that I had tipped various staff. Although they said that they notified us of this tip charge on check-in, they did not. Before booking this hotel, I read where someone experienced this same thing but I had forgotten about this; so beware. We did not do an all-inclusive plan. On previous visits to Nuevo Vallarta, we did all-inclusive at other resorts and wanted to do something different by trying the local restaurants. We normally drive from another city in Mexico, so we don't have to worry about cab fares. The hotel has only 2 restaurants, which includes a small outdoor one at the pool. The only food that we tried at the hotel was the breakfast, which was offered free as part of their sales pitch. The breakfast,however, was extremely good! Read more

Flamingos is a beautiful property, but the constant sales pressures grew tiresome. We labeled them "purchase opportunities" and it became a joke by the end of the week. This was not exclusive to Flamingos...all of Vallarta is filled with constant sales pitches. We were not interested in a timeshare but were contacted daily. We had an absolutely wonderful time at this hotel. We felt very safe. The staff is truly wonderful, from the porters at the entrance to the waiters at the pool, everyone bends over backwards to be nice. Timeshare people were not a problem. Grounds are paradise and the place is surrounded by other nice resorts so private and clean. As the week goes on you start to notice how the AC might only work in one of your two rooms in the two room unit... but we liked to hear the ocean and it was cool enough to sleep so we didn't care. DO NOT BUY THE ALL INCLUSIVE FOOD... you have a kitchen.... […] I suggest swing by the market and eat breakfast and lunch in your kitchen and go offsite for dinners... get cans of beer for the pool no glass allowed. I hated the food. We did the timeshare tour, they were nice and not pushy... we saw a great deal and bought a week a year, there are other places to try, but I'm sure we will go back next year. Hotel set up more as a time-share property than an all inclusive resort. Staff is very friendly and helpful, but with only 2 restaurants and 1 pool (even though it is very large!) not as much to do as at other all inclusive resorts we've stayed at. Missed having a swim up bar as well, even though the pool staff were fairly attentive. Beautiful location and views as well as a nice beach. Would probably stay at a true all inclusive next time. We were told at check in that about 90% of the people staying there were time share owners. There was pressure from the Concierge at check in to take the time share tour the following day, in order to receive their discount card. Glad we did the all inclusive package because meals were expensive otherwise. About $150-$200 for the breakfast/lunch (for 5) and dinners running $200-$300. Quiet, comfortable., very clean. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The service was over the top-people waiting to put your towels on the chairs for you and and set them up wherever you wanted on the beach. We walked to Bucerias on the beach every day to check out the markets and restaurants.

Upon arrival, the lobby and grounds give the impression of a luxurious hotel. The grounds are beautiful. We booked thru Expedia so we thought we would avoid the timeshare sales pitch. After checking in at the counter we were instructed to sit with the "concierge" which did go over the hotel amenities but also tried to convince us to attend a tour. Once we declined the offer, we were told that we had to return the card. We booked a room with a King bed and ocean view and ended up with 2 double beds and a pool view. There was a kitchenette with 1 small frying pan. The cabinets had a strange smell like mold and there was only one chair in the room. The patio was nice but an indoor seating option would have been nice. We just didn't get what we expected. I have been to this resort before and had a much better room. A full kitchen should have a normal size fridge and an oven. Clock did not work service around the pool was slow and the food was terrible and expensive. When we decided to go to Puerto Vallarta, we chose Villa del Palmar Flamingos expecting the same level quality service, good food, etc. The room is along the lines of the Villa del Arco - nice one bedroom with a beautiful […] sitting area, full kitchen and lovely balcony with a view of the ocean. The housekeeping services were late, late (we're talking 4-5 p.m.) when typically you just want to rest in your room after a full day in the sun. It was inconsistent - we were constantly having to call back down and request items that were never replenished. The food at the all inclusive buffets were substandard quality. The room they held their theme dinners & entertainment reminded me of an old church hall - dreary & unwelcoming. The quality of entertainment and daily activities was substandard. It's a good $30/40 minute cab ride to anywhere. Our ground transportation, booked through Expedia was HORRIBLE. It was with Gray Line - the trip from the airport was ridiculous with the cab driver trying to impress us with his understanding of the time difference between Nayarit and Jalisco (there isn't one) and the ride back was in a Taxi with a man who couldn't drive and almost got us killed more than twice. There was nothing about this hotel or the transportation company that I would ever recommend to anyone. We won't be going back. Read more
